What to Know

  • In a browser: Go to Format -> Line & Paragraph Spacing -> Double.
  • From the toolbar: Highlight the text, then click the Line Spacing icon and click Double.

In Google Docs, the default is 1.15 spaces between lines. If you need additional space, this article explains how to double space instead.

How to Double Space on Google Docs Using the Format Menu

Most people using a word processing application like Google Docs will head straight for the format menu when they want to change something about the format of the document. You can use this menu to change the line spacing of your document, or to create new default formatting , too.

Open an existing document or create a new document in Google Docs and place your cursor where you want the double-spacing to begin.

If you already have text in your document that you would like to reformat to have double spacing, highlight all the text you want to change.

Then select the Format menu.

In the Format menu hover your cursor over Line & Paragraph Spacing and then choose Double.

How to Double Space In Google Docs From the Toolbar

Although using the Format menu to double-space documents in Google Docs is easier, there's an even easier way. It involves using the Formatting toolbar at the top of the page.

Open an existing document or create a new document in Google Docs and place your cursor where you want the double-spacing to begin. You can also highlight existing text to change it to double spaced format if you like.

Click the Line Spacing icon in the formatting toolbar.

Choose Double from the spacing menu that appears.

Changing Line Spacing in Google Docs on Mobile Devices

Google Docs on mobile devices like Android or iOS works a little differently than it does when you're using it in a web browser. Line spacing also behaves differently, but it's still not difficult to change.

You only have four options for line spacing when working with documents on a mobile device. They are 1 , 1.15 , 1.5 , and 2 . You cannot apply custom formatting using a mobile device.

Open your document in Google Docs on your mobile device and tap the Edit (pencil) icon in the lower right corner.

Select the Format icon at the top of the next page.

Then tap Paragraph in the Format menu that appears and use the up and down arrows next to the Line spacing number to adjust your line spacing for the document. This will change the line spacing for the paragraph where your cursor is. To change another paragraph, you'll need to repeat the process.

When Other Types of Spacing Are Needed

Single and double spacing aren't the only options you have in Google Docs. Whether you're working with the Line spacing option in the Format menu or on the toolbar, you have some other options too.

You're first met with quick line spacing options for Single , 1.15 , 1.5 , and Double . These quick selections are the most commonly used line spacing options, but you can choose Custom Spacing to create a line spacing that's unique to your needs to fit the document that you're creating.

Custom Spacing opens a Custom spacing dialog box that lets you set the line spacing as well as the spacing before and after a paragraph. This will be applied to the highlighted text or to any text after you've made changes until you change these options again.

Additionally, in both menus you have the option to Add a space before a paragraph or Add a space after a paragraph . This automatically adds space at the beginning or end (or both) of paragraphs on a hard return.

You can also choose how line spacing affects the flow of your document by choosing how each line will behave when you create a new page. You can choose to Keep with next , Keep lines together , or Prevent single lines .

All of these options will affect how paragraphs are broken up when you reach the end of a page and begin a new one.

Why Use Double Space on Google Docs

While the standard formatting in Google Docs is often good enough for most purposes, there may be other reasons to make the spaces between lines larger. Probably the greatest of those reasons is to have extra space for editing.

In most cases, double spacing is standard during the drafting phase of a document, especially large documents like lengthy papers or even book manuscripts. It's time like this, when you need extra space, that it's good to know all the ways you can double space on Google Docs.

One of the most popular features in word processors is line spacing. And luckily, if you need to double space your Google Doc, you can do so in just a few clicks.

Google Docs offers a variety of spacing options. On both the website and mobile app, you can set your line spacing at 1.00, 1.15, 1.5, or 2.00 — a range from single spacing to double spacing. And on the website, you can even set a custom spacing style, or give extra spacing to specific paragraphs.

Here's how to do it using either the website or mobile app.

How to double space on the Google Docs website

As noted above, the Google Docs website gives you much more control over your line spacing. So if possible, this is the best way to edit your documents.

1. Open the Google Doc you want to edit, or create a new one.

2. In the toolbar near the top of the screen, click the icon that looks like a vertical arrowed line with three lines next to it. This is the Line spacing menu.

3. Select the spacing style that you want from the presets, or click Custom spacing . This lets you input your own spacing value, both between lines and paragraphs; click Apply when you're done here.

You can also use the Add space and Remove space options to set how much space you want between paragraphs. This lets you have different spacing styles for lines and paragraphs.

How to double space in the Google Docs app

1. In the Google Docs app, open or create the file you want to edit.

2. While in editing mode, tap the capital A icon at the top of the screen.

3. Tap the word "Paragraph" in the pop-up window.

4. To the right of the words "Line spacing," tap the up arrow until the number reads 2.00 to get double spacing. You're restricted to the preset values here — you can't set custom spacing.

Line spacing is the amount of vertical space between two lines of text. When someone asks you to "Double space in Google Docs", you don't have to get baffled. Line spacing is a vital part of designing your document for legibility and it just takes a couple of taps or clicks.

Let's see how to add the right amount of space between the lines in Google Docs on the desktop and the mobile app.

How to Double Space on Google Docs Desktop

By default, Google Doc uses a line spacing of 1.15 on all new documents. You can change this to double space (or any other measure) in two ways:

  • From the toolbar.
  • From the option in the menu bar.

Double Space Your Text With The Toolbar

  • Drag your cursor and highlight the lines that you want to double space. You can select the entire document or any part of the document. Use Ctrl + A (Windows) or Command + A (macOS) to select the entire document.
  • Select the icon for line spacing in the toolbar. Choose the Double Space option in the dropdown.

Choosing the double line spacing option from the toolbar in Google Docs

If it's a new document, you simply need to choose the double spaced option before you begin writing.

Double Space Your Text With The Menu Bar

You can use the same workflow with the Format option in the menu bar.

  • Select the text you want to double space as before.
  • Go to Format > Line Spacing > Double .

Choosing the double line spacing option from the menubar in Google Docs

When you are done, just check the document again to see if every line has been double spaced neatly. Often, selection mistakes lead to orphaned lines that stay single-spaced.

How to Double Space on Google Docs Mobile App

Adding double space in any document you open with the Google Docs mobile apps takes a few more taps. Let's see how the process works in the iOS app for Google Docs. The steps in Android are similar.

Choose Format in Google Docs iOS app

  • Open a document in the Google Docs app.
  • Double-tap on the document to enter the Edit mode or select the pencil icon.
  • Double-tap the spot in your document where you want to edit the sentences. Adjust the blue markers to select the text you want.
  • Tap on the Format icon on top and then choose Paragraph in the Format dialog that appears.
  • Next to Line spacing use the arrows to choose "2" for double-spacing the lines in the paragraph. Tap the blue check on top to apply the changes.

Format Your Document for Readability

This is one of those Google tips that takes seconds but has an effect on the entire document. The right line spacing is not only important for readability, but it can also be a style requirement. For instance, the APA and MLA style guides insist on the double spaced text. Also, adjust the line spacing first if you need to fit a document into a fixed number of pages.

How to Double Space in Google Docs

Doubling space in Google Docs can be accomplished in a few quick steps. First, open your document. Highlight the text you want to double space or press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac) to select all text. Click on ‘Line spacing’ in the toolbar, represented by an icon with lines and an arrow. In the dropdown menu, select ‘Double’. And voila! Your text is now double spaced.

What Happens After Doubling the Spacing?

Once you’ve doubled the spacing of your text, you’ll notice that your document is easier to read and edit. The increased white space between lines allows for better visibility of each line, reducing eye strain and improving overall readability. This change also makes it easier to add comments or notes between lines, a particularly useful feature for editing and collaborative work.

Introduction

Whether you’re a student preparing a paper, a professional drafting a report, or anyone in between, understanding how to adjust the spacing of your text in Google Docs is a fundamental skill. Double spacing, in particular, is a common requirement for academic papers and other formal documents. It enhances readability and provides space for feedback and editing. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the simple steps to double space your text in Google Docs, ensuring your document meets the necessary standards and is easy on the eyes.

Step-by-Step Process to Double Space in Google Docs

Step 1: open your document.

First things first, you need to have your document open. This could be a new document or an existing one; the steps remain the same.

Step 2: Select the Text

Next, highlight the text you want to double space. If you want to double space the entire document, simply press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac) to select all the text.

Step 3: Navigate to Line Spacing

Look towards the toolbar at the top of your screen. Find the icon that looks like lines with an arrow pointing up and down. This is the ‘Line spacing’ icon. Click on it to open the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Choose ‘Double’

In the dropdown menu that appears after you’ve clicked on ‘Line spacing’, you will see several options. Look for the option that says ‘Double’ and click on it.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Double Spaced Text

That’s it! You’ve successfully doubled the spacing of your text. Now, your document should be more readable and easier to edit.

Why Double Space?

So, why bother double spacing your document? Double spacing makes your document more readable. It’s easier on the eyes and reduces strain during long reading sessions. It also provides ample space for making notes, edits, and comments—something especially beneficial for students submitting papers and professionals sharing documents with their team.

Pros of Double Spacing

Double spacing boasts several advantages. It enhances the overall readability of your document, making text less cramped and easier to navigate. It’s often required for academic papers, ensuring you meet the submission standards of most educational institutions. Moreover, it provides space for annotations and corrections, a must-have for collaborative work and editing.

Cons of Double Spacing

While there are numerous benefits, double spacing isn’t always the right choice. It significantly increases the length of your document, which might not be ideal if you’re trying to save paper or keep your report under a certain number of pages. Additionally, in more informal or space-restricted contexts, double spacing can appear unnecessary and take up valuable real estate.

Additional Information

Keep in mind that double spacing in Google Docs affects the spacing between lines of text, not the space between paragraphs. If you need to increase the space between paragraphs, you will need to adjust the paragraph spacing settings. Also, remember that the steps to double space your text can slightly vary depending on whether you are using the Google Docs app on a mobile device or the web version on a computer.

Summarized Steps to Double Space in Google Docs

  • Open the Google Doc you want to modify.
  • Highlight the specific text you wish to double space, or press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac) for the entire document.
  • Locate and click on the ‘Line spacing’ icon in the toolbar.
  • From the dropdown menu, select ‘Double’.
  • Your selected text is now double spaced.

Formatting requirements can vary significantly depending on the situation involving the documents you are creating. You could be editing a scientific document that needs subscript and superscript , or it could be a newsletter or flyer that needs to look good from a distance.

Some requirements are meant to minimize the length of documents; some can dictate how to strike out text rather than removing it , while others are focused more on making the document readable.

One formatting option that can vary a lot is the preferred line spacing for documents . In Google Docs you may find that your documents have spacing of 1.15 lines. What Does Double Spaced Mean in Google Docs?

When you have an assignment or a task that requires you to use double-spacing, you may be wondering what this means.

Double spaced means that there is a full blank line between two lines of text in a document.

The size of this line is typically dictated by the font size of the text surrounding the space. For example, the size of the spaces in a document that uses 12 pt text will be smaller than the spaces in a document that uses 24 pt text.

Where is the Spacing in Google Docs?

The line spacing options in Google Docs can be found in a couple of locations. The first, and simplest to use, is found by clicking the Line spacing button in the toolbar above the document body.

The other location where you can find line spacing in Google Docs is by clicking the Format tab at the top of the window, then selecting the Line spacing option.

Each of those locations will provide you with some common line spacing options, but there is also a Custom spacing option where you can set some additional spacing options as well.

You simply need to click the same Line spacing icon that you used to get double spaced text, select the Line and paragraph spacing option again, but this time click Custom spacing instead. On this menu, you can change line spacing, or add space before and after a paragraph.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you need to double space in Google Docs but aren’t familiar with the terminology, then you can select the “Double” option from the “Line spacing” menu. If you are on the Custom Line Spacing menu, then the numerical value would be 2.

Google Docs is double spacing because that is the current spacing setting for the document. You can change spacing by clicking the “Line spacing” button in the toolbar and selecting a new value.

To fix the spacing in Google Docs, you first need to select the document content to fix. You can choose the entire document quickly by pressing “Ctrl + A.” Next you can click the “Line spacing” button and choose a value from there, or you can go to Format > Line spacing and choose an option from that menu.

How To Double-Space In Google Docs

Table of contents, open google docs, drag the mouse over the text, line spacing, click double, space will be automatically implemented, open google doc, highlight any portion of the text  , click format, line & paragraph spacing, what is the point of double-spacing, why should i double-space my work, is 2.0 or 1.5 double-spacing, final thoughts.

You’ve probably heard of the term ‘double-spacing’ before, but do you know what it means? Double-spacing is a formatting option that lets you add extra white space between lines of text. It’s one of many ways to make your writing more readable and easy on the eyes.

Plus, it gives others room to edit or annotate your work. This is why many universities or colleges recommend submitting work double-spaced, as it makes it easier to give feedback. It is also frequently used in work settings.

If you are not particularly experienced with Google Docs , you might be struggling to double-space your work. Here are some straightforward instructions.

Open Google Docs on your device. This could be a tablet, smartphone, laptop, or any other smart device.

Drag the mouse over the text that you want to double-space. This may take some time if you want to double-space the entire document.

Next, locate the “Line Spacing” tool in your document. This can be found at the top of the Google Doc toward the right. This symbol is represented by three lines and an arrow.

When you click the button, you will be presented with a drop-down box. Here, you will see a number of formatting options. You can choose how big you want the gap to be. If you plan on having a double space, click “Double.”

The space will be automatically implemented. If you are not satisfied, you can alter the space so that it is a different size.

If you are unable to use this method, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered! Below, we have provided another way for you to double-space your documents:

To begin, make sure that Google Docs is open. Select a document with text that requires double-spacing.

Using the cursor, highlight any portion of that text that you wish to double-space. This is done by dragging the cursor. The text that has been highlighted will become blue.

Click format, which is located in the top-left corner of the Google Doc. You will then be presented with a drop-down menu.

On the drop-down menu, click “Line & paragraph spacing.” This will give you the same options as the method above.

Click “Double.” This will automatically double the space in between the lines. You can experiment with other sizes, though you should be aware that “Double” is the only option that will give you double-spaced text.

The point of double-spacing is to create additional space between paragraphs. This allows people who read your work to easily follow along without getting lost. Lots of people find these horizontal lines to be simpler to read than a document with only a single space. In addition, it provides room for comments.

This is something that most professors and employers ask students to do. They feel that it helps readers understand your writing better. Aside from formal and professional settings, you may want to double-space work just because you enjoy it.

You should select 2.0 if you are intending to double-space a document. Though 1.5 is one of the many spacing options available, it is not the same as double-spacing. This is because it is slightly below it.

Double-spacing is a great way to make your writing look better. However, it may seem confusing if you have never done this before.

For example, if you are a brand-new student, you may not have double-spaced work before. With our advice, you now have two ways of double-spacing your Google Docs. Hopefully, this will allow your essay to get an amazing grade or your business report to receive a roaring reception.

Step-by-Step Guide to Double Spacing in Google Docs

how to double space your essay on google docs

Double-line spacing is often used in academic documents to make it easier to read and comment on. Use double spaces in Google Docs with this guide.

Proper formatting is an important aspect to consider when you’re creating any document. Sometimes, you might need to consider adjusting the spacing between lines to make your document easier to read or to meet specific formatting requirements.

Thankfully, Google Docs makes it easy to adjust the line spacing in your document. One option is to double space, which inserts an extra line between each line of text you insert.

If you want to know how to double space in Google Docs, follow the steps below.

Using Formatting Options

Double spacing refers to inserting an extra line break between each line of text in a document. This can make the text easier to read and help ensure that the document meets certain formatting guidelines.

In Google Docs, you can use the Formatting Options menu to double-space your text.

To double-space your text in Google Docs:

  • Open your Google Docs document .
  • Select any existing text manually using your mouse.
  • If you want to apply the changes to your entire document, press Ctrl + A .
  • In the top menu, click Format and select Line & Paragraph Spacing from the drop-down menu.

Set double line spacing in Google Docs

  • If you want to customize the spacing further, select Custom Spacing instead and adjust the line spacing to your desired measurement.

Once you’ve applied the change, your text will update to use double spacing. Repeat these steps if you want to reverse the change and choose Single spacing instead.

How to Set Double Spaces as the Default in Google Docs

Want to use double line spacing as the default choice for the text you write in all Google Docs documents? You can update the default Google Docs formatting to always use double spaces in your documents.

This won’t apply to any documents you’ve already created, however. If you want to update those, you’ll need to follow the above steps.

To set double spaces as the default in Google Docs:

  • Manually select a portion of text that has  Normal text  formatting applied. This is the standard text you’d write in your document in paragraphs, but it must exclude any headings.
  • Click Format from the top menu and select Line & Paragraph Spacing from the drop-down menu.
  • With double line spacing applied, click the Styles menu on the toolbar.

You could also transfer the ownership of a document in Google Docs when you’re finished working on it. If you want to hide your previous edits, you can easily delete the version history in Google Docs .

Avatar of person using AI

What is Google Gemini?

Bard AI

In February of 2023, Google released an artificial intelligence bot, Bard.

Experts claim Bard (now Gemini) is Google’s response to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Gemini is built on Google’s AI language model for dialogue applications (LaMDA).

According to Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, Gemini is an experimental conversational AI service that answers questions and provides information like Google search in a refined manner.

He says: “The technology can combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge and draw on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.”

Interestingly, human reviewers assess Gemini’s conversations to improve the quality of responses.

Gemini’s strength lies in its ability to offer simple and contextual answers (as opposed to endless pages of web content).

Google Gemini features

The way Gemini retrieves information is what sets it apart from other AI chatbots.

It extracts data in real-time, having been trained in conversational data (instead of books, articles, etc.), making it a chattier chatbot than others.

Here’s a look at its top three features:

1. Gemini extensions

Google keeps upgrading Gemini’s features, with the latest one being—Gemini Extensions—a chatbot that pulls your information from Gmail, Google Docs, Google Maps, Google Drive accounts, and more.

For instance, let’s assume you plan to go to the Grand Canyon with your work team.

Instead of juggling multiple tabs and wasting time asking who’s free and when, let Google Gemini’s AI model take over.

This AI-powered tool will:

  • Get the dates that work for everyone from Gmail
  • Look up real-time flight as well as hotel details
  • Send Google Maps directions to the airport
  • Provide YouTube videos of things to do there

2. Assistant with Gemini

Google Gemini has also rolled out a new feature that may be particularly interesting to you: Assistant in Gemini. It is the marriage of a personalized assistant that will listen to you and a generative AI technology that will reason with and respond to you.

Use text, voice, or images to interact with this tool and get your personalized assistant.

Here’s an example of how helpful the Assistant in Google Gemini is:

Say you want to upload a pic of your puppy on social media. But you struggle with ‘smart’ captions.

Assistant with Gemini will help.

All you need to do is float the overlay on top of your photo and ask it to pen a quick social media post for you.

Google bard assistant

Assistant with Gemini will use the image as the primary visual cue and curate a contextual post for you.

This conversational overlay has a first-mover advantage, having never been tried by any brand before!

3. “Google it” (G) button

Gemini has also introduced another exciting feature with its ‘Google it’ button to double-check its answers quickly.

When you click on the ‘G’ icon after a result, Gemini reviews the response and evaluates if there is similar content across the web to substantiate it.

google bard Ai vs google search

To get insights into similar content by Google Search, click the highlighted phrases.

Share a Gemini chat with a public link to continue the conversation with someone else. The person you share it with can ask Gemini additional questions about that topic and build on the exchange.

Google Gemini Limitations

While Google Gemini stands out with its unique features and extensive real-time information capabilities, it’s important to address the limitations that users might face. Understanding these constraints adds a layer of transparency and helps users set realistic expectations. Here are a few Google Gemini limitations to consider:

  • Dependence on the internet: Gemini requires an active internet connection to function, limiting its accessibility in areas with poor connectivity.
  • Data Privacy Concerns: Given Gemini’s integration with personal Google services like Gmail and Drive, users may have concerns regarding how their data is used and protected.
  • Limited Contextual Understanding: While Gemini is proficient in handling a wide range of queries, its ability to understand and process highly nuanced or domain-specific questions can be limited.
  • Inconsistencies in Responses: Occasionally, Gemini may produce responses that lack consistency or contradict previous answers, reflecting the challenges in maintaining coherence over extended interactions.
  • Adaptation to New Information: Gemini’s ability to incorporate the latest developments or breaking news into its responses can be delayed, impacting the relevancy of its answers.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT product example

Released in November 2022, ChatGPT is OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot that answers questions and prompts in any format you want.

ChatGPT’s superpower is that despite being an artificial intelligence tool, it carries out human-like conversations.

Moreover, this generative AI tool does what only humans have been capable of doing until now—creative thinking.

  • Write poems, emails, blogs, articles, content calendar templates , social media posts, essays, etc.
  • Summarize podcasts and transcripts
  • Solve complex Mathematical problems
  • Identify keywords for SEO

ChatGPT features

  • ChatGPT pulls information from mountains worth of data and large AI language models to formulate natural, human-like responses for entertainment, business, and educational use cases
  • Contrary to what people believe, ChatGPT is not sentient
  • ChatGPT formulates responses from the transformer predicting text. This includes the next word, sentence, paragraph, and so on based on the sequences of text that experts have trained on

1. New voice and image capabilities

Want to have a voice conversation or show ChatGPT what you’re talking about? Well, now it’s possible.

ChatGPT is rolling out new voice and image capabilities, offering a more intuitive interface type.

Say you’re at home and want to know what to make for dinner.

You only need to snap a picture of your fridge and pantry to get suggestions! Ask follow-up questions for a step-by-step recipe!

2. Custom versions of ChatGPT—GPTs

ChatGPT custom GPTs

If you think ChatGPT does not offer personalized inputs, the platform’s new GPTs update will surprise you.

You can now create your custom version of ChatGPT for any specific purpose in your daily life—and share said creation with others:

For example, GPTs help teach your kid math or even design stickers, for that matter.

Test drive the platform to see for yourself!

3. Prompt examples

The platform has also made initiating a new conversation slightly less intimidating, thanks to the introduction of ‘Prompt Examples.’

So now, instead of staring at the blank space, use sample AI prompt templates at the beginning of a chat to drive engaging and meaningful conversations.

ChatGPT Limitations

Despite the impressive capabilities that ChatGPT brings to the table, it has its limitations. Understanding these limitations is crucial for users to set realistic expectations and find workarounds for their specific needs. Here’s a look at some of the notable limitations of ChatGPT:

  • Data Recency: ChatGPT’s knowledge is based on information available up to its last training cut-off. This means it can’t provide updates or information on events that occurred after this date.
  • Misinformation Risk: Given its reliance on pre-existing data, ChatGPT may inadvertently generate responses that contain inaccuracies or outdated information.
  • Context Understanding: While ChatGPT is skilled at generating human-like responses, it may struggle with understanding the context or nuances of certain questions, leading to irrelevant or generic answers.
  • Ethical and Moral Reasoning: ChatGPT may not always align with human ethics or moral reasoning, especially in situations that require nuanced understanding and empathy.
  • Dependence on Input Quality: The quality of ChatGPT’s responses heavily relies on the clarity and specificity of the input prompts. Vague or ambiguous questions may lead to unclear or unsatisfactory answers.

ChatGPT vs Google Gemini: Is There a Winner?

We’ve covered ChatGPT and Google Gemini’s unique features to make your life easier.

But let’s address the elephant in the room: ‘Is one better than the other?’

Read on to explore a few critical differences between ChatGPT and Google Gemini and understand if there is a clear winner.

1. Generative capabilities

Gemini doesn’t boast the same generative AI capabilities as ChatGPT.

While Gemini’s goal (at least at the moment) is to support Google search, it also writes creatively for you. The conclusive message on mental health towards the end is an excellent addition to the essay, which differs from the ChatGPT version.

ChatGPT, too, does a great job of delivering a high-quality essay that doesn’t stray off the path.

Chatgpt prompt example

The verdict: It is a tie when it comes to evaluating the generative AI capabilities of both ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

2. Training model

One of the key differences between Google Gemini and ChatGPT is the type of Large Language Models (LLMs) they employ.

While Gemini is on the PaLM 2 architecture, ChatGPT is on the Transformer architecture.

But what does this mean for a user like you and me?

ChatGPT’s research stems from feeding training data into the system. Naturally, the research quickly becomes dated.

Gemini, in contrast, scours web pages in real-time, making the conversations more relevant to ensure more up to date answers.

Our verdict: Gemini has the upper hand for the latest information, given its training model.

3. Modify responses + Image uploads

Google bard modify responses

Google Gemini allows users to modify the response by the tool and offers many options for the same.

The AI chatbot also enables you to upload image attachments.

Both these features are not available on the free version of ChatGPT. However, ChatGPT allows you to give feedback on the response and regenerate it.

Our verdict: Both ChatGPT and Google Gemini give users some options regarding making changes to the response quality. So, it would be a tie .

4. Integrations

In terms of integrations, Google Gemini’s extensions offer more convenience as they are tailored for common Google tools that people use every day.

On the other hand, ChatGPT offers unique custom versions (GPTs) to suit personal needs.  It also allows image and voice inputs.

Our verdict: ChatGPT has an edge for offering custom versions, but Google Gemini’s extensions are a massive source of help to most users who work with multiple Google tools.

5. User Experience and Accessibility

When evaluating Google Gemini and ChatGPT, considering the user experience and ease of accessibility is critical. Google Gemini seamlessly integrates with all other Google apps, making it inherently more accessible for users already within the Google ecosystem. Its intuitive interface and conversational overlay make it easy for users of all levels of technological proficiency to engage with Gemini.

ChatGPT, while not directly integrated with specific platforms, is known for its responsive and straightforward user interface. Its capability to understand and generate human-like text across various topics makes it accessible and valuable to a broad audience. ChatGPT’s introduction of voice and image capabilities also significantly enhances its accessibility, catering to users who prefer audio-visual interactions over text.

Our verdict: For Google Workspace users, Gemini may offer a more seamless experience. However, ChatGPT’s versatile and user-friendly interface, coupled with its innovative voice and image features, makes it highly accessible and appealing to a wide range of users, marking this category as a tie.

Google Gemini Vs. ChatGPT on Reddit

Let’s turn to Reddit to see what users say about ChatGPT Vs. Google Gemini rivalry.

When you search Google Gemini Vs. ChatGPT on Reddit , you’ll see polarizing opinions on both.

Some users say, “Google might have a scale advantage in data and compute.” Plus, another user notes, “The fact that LaMDA isn’t a static model and is constantly updating itself is a massive advantage over GPT-3.5.”

But not all scales tip in favor of Gemini.

Some users feel that ChatGPT’s responses provide more quality and accurracy as compared to Gemini.

Here’s an interesting distinction a user makes that might be worth looking into:

“For looking up current information, Gemini is a mile better than ChatGPT with browsing. The “with browsing” implementation in Bing and ChatGPT is absolutely terrible. I’m presuming Google can leverage cached search queries to return current information much more quickly. Gemini also does a much better job of formatting responses, it includes pictures etc., and it’s faster.

However, Google Gemini provides a lot of fake/unreliable information, IMO more than ChatGPT does. And I don’t think it’s as good at the “other” sorts of “write me a poem” kinds of tasks. So personally I think this is now a 2-way race. ChatGPT for raw capability of the model, Gemini for current info lookup and usability in general .”

I tried using Google Gemini and ChatGPT to spin a blog on its comparative features.
