UPDF Recruiting Close to 10,000 Young Ugandans Aged 18-22 Years – Here’s How to Apply

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) is calling on young Ugandans to apply for a general recruitment exercise to induct 9627 regular forces into the Infantry. This crucial recruitment drive will commence on 01 July 2024 and conclude on 14 July 2024.

Recruitment Procedure

Aspiring candidates wishing to join the regular force must follow these steps:

• Recommendations : Candidates must secure recommendations from their local leaders, including LCI, LCII, and LCIII chairpersons, as well as GISO and DISO officials.
• Application Submission : After obtaining the necessary recommendations, candidates should submit their application forms to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for registration.
• Application Collection : The UPDF collection teams will collect the registered applications and submit them to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management for shortlisting.
• Shortlist Publication : Successful applicants will be notified via district and city notice boards, instructing them to appear at designated recruitment centers for final interviews.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a new recruitment drive targeting scientists/ fresh graduates. This follows the recent recruitment of S.4 leavers. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 28 years.

The UPDF is seeking candidates from the following categories:

UACE (S.6) Science-Based Combinations

Applicants must have at least a principal pass in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Geography, plus subsidiaries in the following combinations:

• PEM (Physics, Economics, Mathematics)
• PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
• PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
• BCM (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics)
• MEG (Mathematics, Economics, Geography)

Degrees or Diplomas in:

• Civil Engineering
• Telephone Engineering
• Automotive Engineering
• Computer Engineering
• Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
• Electronic Engineering
• Cyber Security
• Computer Forensics
• Computer Science
• Aerospace Engineering

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply online through the UPDF website at www.updf.go.ug/careers . The application window is open for 14 days, from June 19 to July 3, 2024.

From July 4 to July 10, applications will be reviewed and successful candidates will be listed on the website. The final list of successful applicants will be published from July 11 to July 14.

Screening Process

Candidates who find their names on the website must report to the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo for screening on July 15, 2024. The screening process will include medical and physical fitness tests.

Requirements for Screening

Applicants must bring the following documents to the screening:

• National Identity Card
• Letters from LCI and LCII Chairpersons, GISO, and DISO

• The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced 9627 infantry vacancies for individuals aged 18-22. The recruitment process involves obtaining recommendations, submitting applications, and undergoing interviews. Recruitment will be nationwide across 10 zones.

KAMPALA, (Examiner) – The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the availability of 9627 infantry vacancies, with eligibility criteria specifying individuals aged 18-22 to fill these positions. Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, disclosed that the Army will commence a general recruitment exercise from July 1st, 2024, until July 14th, 2024. Here are the comprehensive details:

The recruitment process will follow these steps:

• Prospective candidates seeking to join the regular force must obtain recommendations from various local authorities including LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO, and DISO. Subsequently, they will submit their application forms to the office of the RDC for registration. The forms will then be collected by UPDF collection teams and submitted to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management for shortlisting.
• The list of successful applicants will be publicly displayed on District/City notice boards, notifying them to attend final interviews at designated recruitment centers.
• Recruitment will be conducted based on projected population figures of each District/City of Uganda, determining recruitment quotas.
• Quotas for potential recruits will be calculated according to the population proportion of each City/District of Uganda based on the updated population figures by UBOS as of June 25, 2023.
• The Regular Force Recruitment 2023/24 will cover all 135 districts and 11 cities across the country, divided into 10 zones: Buganda, Busoga, Bukedi/Teso, Midwestern, Kampala Extra, Rwenzori Region, Northern, Karamoja/Sebei, West Nile, and Western.
• Aspiring recruits will be recommended by DISOs, GISOs, and LCs.
• The recruitment exercise will span 56 days, including submission, verification of applications, and final recruitment.

ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION: All participants in the recruitment exercise will be required to possess a security pass.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of Uganda with an original National Identity Card.
• Medical: Must be physically fit and prepared to undergo medical and body fitness tests.
• Age: Must be between 18 – 22 years.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has announced the shortlisted candidates for the 2024 recruitment. The lists are accessible online and at regional offices, with the recruitment process running from July 1 to July 14, 2024.

The shortlisted recruits include the following numbers from specific districts: Moroto (48), Oyam (140), Kasese (264), Tororo (116), Masaka District (8), Masaka City (47), Nakawa Division (Kampala City) (92), Kampala Central (Kampala City) (36), and Kitgum (62).

“The candidates are reminded that the recruitment exercise will commence on July 1, 2024, and conclude on July 14, 2024, at various recruitment centers as previously announced. The Ministry of Defence and the UPDF family wish all candidates success,” said Col. Akiiki.
