It also requires that people learn to live together in peace and harmony, despite their differences.

Despite the challenges, national integration is essential for the survival and prosperity of any nation. A nation that is not united will be weak and vulnerable to its enemies. In recent years, many countries have experienced problems with national integration. In some cases, such as Yugoslavia and Iraq, ethnic divisions have led to bloody civil wars. In other cases, such as Canada and Belgium, linguistic divisions have created tension between different groups of people.

Causes of Lack of National Integration

There can be various reasons for the lack of national integration in a country. It could be due to historical factors, such as colonization or occupation by a foreign power. Another cause of lack of national integration can be cultural differences between different groups within the country. This can lead to tension and conflict, and make it difficult for people to identify with a single nationality. Religion can also be a factor, as different religious groups may have different values and traditions that they want to maintain. Economic inequality can also contribute to national divisions, as those who are wealthier may feel less need or desire to integrate with those who are less fortunate.

National integration refers to the feeling of togetherness and oneness that people of a country share despite differences in their caste, creed, religion, culture and region. National Integration Day is celebrated in India every year on the 19th of November. This date also marks the birth anniversary of India’s first female prime minister, Indira Gandhi . On this day many activities take place, including the National Youth Awards and National Integration Camps. People also come together to promote the spirits of love, unity and peace.

National Integration in the Indian Context

In a country which has been built on the concept of partition, it is incredibly challenging to achieve national integration. India is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-regional and multi-ethnic nation. Since the very beginning, the people of India have been divided. There were disputes regarding the national language of the country. When Hindi was declared to be the national language, it upset a lot of south Indians, and they denied to accept it.

Some protests and riots took place when a particular caste was not getting an OBC (Other Backward Class) status for the purpose of reservation. In this country, from the start, people have always tried to benefit at the expense of others. These differences are what our country aims at reducing and minimising. The citizens themselves should understand this and promote a sense of tolerance, consensus and brotherhood.

Features of National Integration

There are broadly four main features of national integration. The first and foremost feature is unity. A country is said to be united when its people join together and work towards the betterment of the nation. The second feature is the social homogeneity. A state is socially homogeneous when its people look past their various differences and treat each other as equals. Loyalty towards the country is the third feature. Commitment to a nation is shown by its people when they are devoted to its growth. The last element is giving everyone equal opportunities. Equal opportunities can exist only when there is no discrimination practised and prevalent.

Importance and Significance of National Integration

National integration also helps to curb and eradicate social unrest and chaos and brings about national peace. This peaceful coexistence between all citizens leads to them working more efficiently and hence improves the economic conditions as well as the growth of the country.

National integration also helps to remove fear from the hearts of people. Many times, during elections, we see riots happening when representatives of certain religions or castes are not elected. Thus, the coming together of people helps to overcome this and brings about with its political stability. It is also responsible for providing people with national direction while giving each person equal chances, and opportunities be it in jobs, elections, education, etc.

Ways to promote National Integration

Culturally diverse groups should respect each other’s differences. They should be tolerant of one another’s faiths and beliefs. There should exist a mutual understanding between them, and they should be sensitive to the other group’s religions and their practices. Every citizen should follow and implement the country’s ideology, as mentioned in the preamble. Justice, liberty, fraternity, equality and secularism should not be compromised with and should be sincerely respected.

All citizens should show respect wholeheartedly for things that hold national importance. The burden of promoting national integration also falls on the nation’s leaders and their actions. National integration in a nation can also be promoted through the fair distribution of resources and education.

Some of the points like cultural unity, defensive continuity, constitution, art, literature, common economic problems, national flag , national festivals, national anthem and national emblem are promoting the National Integration in India.

Instead of being from different religions and cases we should recognize that all are one in order to build a strong and prosperous nation. We need to understand the real meaning of the unity in diversity in India. It never means kind of oneness should be here because of racial and cultural similarity, it means that oneness instead of great differences here. India is counted as the country having second largest population all over the world, where more than one thousand six hundred fifty-two languages are spoken and people from all major religions of the world are living here together. In spite of all differences we should co-exist here with each other peacefully without any political or social conflicts. We should enjoy the unity in this great country where everything is diverse to fulfil the purpose of national integration.

Essay on National integration in 4 00 words

India is a country of diversity in people’s races, religions, languages, castes, etc however unity is also seen here many times under the influence of common territory, history and continuous fight for the freedom from British rule. Britishers followed many years the policy of Divide and Rule in India in order to continue their ruling power over India. However the unity of Indian people from different races, religions and castes makes possible to run away the Britishers. However, after independence disintegration took place which divided India into Bharat and Pakistan.

Indian is a land of various religious communities like Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Parses. National integration is possible here only when each community live peacefully together, appreciate other community, love people of other community and respect culture and tradition of others. People from each community should observe their fairs, festivals and other great days peacefully. Each community should help each other and share the celebration of religious festivals. Any religious community should not do anything bad which is banned or prohibited in other religious community.

People of different religions speak different languages like Hindi, English, Urdu, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, etc. There should be equality among people of all religions and same facility for students of all castes. National integration in India is an immediate need in the modern time to bring equality among people of all races and equal growth and development of all communities for the ultimate development of the country. Indian government has founded the Council of National Integration in the hope that people living here would co-operate in fulfilling the purpose of its all programmes.

National integration is one combining group of all the people living of the nation to make a single identity. National integration is a particular sentiment which binds people together into one common bond of nation without noticing the religion, caste, background or language. We should identify ourselves as people of India not as from particular religion or caste. India is a big country having vast population of various creed and castes. It is a heritage rich country however we cannot say it a country having unity of people. It is possible through the huge awareness of the youths of the country. As a youth, we are the future of our country so we should fully understand our responsibility towards our nation and do all the required activities needed for the national integration.

Long Essay on National integration in 8 00 words

National integration refers to the feeling of oneness and unity among the citizens of a country. It is the recognition of being one despite the difference in caste, creed, colour and religion. National integration is extremely essential to maintain peace and prosperity of a country. A country where people live in harmony with each other stands far better prospects of growth and development compared to one where people lack unity. Government must take initiatives to invoke and promote the feeling of oneness among citizens.

Importance of National Integration

National integration is of utmost importance for any nation. It helps in bringing people closer and promotes peace and harmony in the society. It is the basis of a peaceful nation. The government must take it as its duty to ensure national integrity in order to give a safe and secure environment to the citizens. Only when the individuals feel safe can they prosper and grow. It is thus essential for the overall development of a nation.

Many third world countries including India have not been able to come at par with the first world nations due to lack of national integration. People in these countries are so engrossed in pulling each other down that they do not understand that they are barring their own growth in the event. They keep fighting for their petty issues and are unable to look at the bigger picture. They lack the capacity of viewing the nation as a whole.

A handful of such people instigate those around them and form groups thereby promoting hatred among people which is a threat to national integration which in turn is a threat to the peace and harmony of the country. The government must intervene here and sensitize people about the need to do away with the feeling of hatred and contribute towards national integration. However, the government of many such nations often neglects and overlooks this issue thereby giving rise to disintegration.

National Integration Week India

19 th November is celebrated as National Integration Day in India since the year 2013. It happens to be the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of the country. The entire week starting 19 th November and ending 25 th November has been dedicated to national integration of the country. It is called the National Integration Week or the Qaumi Ekta Week.

The introduction of National Integration Week by the government of India is an attempt to promote brotherhood and oneness among the citizens of the country.

Several events are organized to celebrate this week. National Integration Camp, National Youth Festival and Inter State Youth Exchange Programme are among some of the events conducted to rejoice this week and encourage unity among the people of our country. Apart from this, various cultural activities and seminars are held to bring people closer and disseminate their differences.

Factors Affecting National Integration in India

Though we proudly say that India is a land of unity among diversity, we do know that this is not completely true. Even as the Indian government is making attempts to ensure national integration, it often falls short. There have been several instances of communal and religious riots in our country and several innocent lives have suffered due to the same. A number of factors affect national integration of our country. Main factors impacting the same are as follows:

  • Caste : Caste system in India has divided people more than anything. Since ancient times, people have been divided into four different castes including the Brahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudhras. People belonging to the upper castes such as Brahmanas and Kshatriyas look down upon those belonging to the lower castes. This has given rise to several clashes and fights.
  • Religion : People from different religions live in our country and each one of them is determined to prove that his religion and language is superior to the other. This is another cause of disintegration.
  • Economic Disparity : There is huge economic disparity among the citizens of our country. This is another cause of division among people and a hindrance to national integration.

National Integration and Communal Harmony

The need for national integration is strongly felt in a country like India as it is home for people belonging to different castes, creed and religion. Each religious group and caste in India believes that it is superior to the other and that it is not getting the due respect and privileges it should. In an attempt to prove their superiority, they often get into fight with the other groups. This disturbs the communal harmony of the country. In order to maintain peace and harmony it is important to stop fighting in the name of religion, caste and culture and see ourselves as one.

National integration plays a key role in building a nation. The need for the same is felt but the attempts to encourage it haven’t been as successful in India. There is still a lot of disparity and hatred among people of our country. The government must take some stringent steps to promote national integration and people must support it to strengthen the nation and give a better future to the coming generations.

Essay on  national integration.

National Integration

National Integration is the most important problem India is facing today. It means a feeling of oneness and unity, harmony and love, co-operation and co-ordination among the Indian people. Unless we develop this sense of unity and subordinate our narrow considerations to national interest, we might l ose

our independence.

In simple words, national integration means cementing all the Indian people into one single nation. The bond of nationality should override c onsiderations of caste, language and r eligion. We must be prepared to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of India. Our history teaches us that India became a slave whenever there was disintegration.

National Integration is also essential for peace and harmony. The safety and prosperity of our country depends upon national integration. Our States are like the limbs and persons like the m uscles of our mother India. An ailment anywhere paralyses the whole. Prosperity and health of different states means the health and prosperity of the whole India. We have to fight it collectively. Only then we can hope to win.

There is no mechanical or chemical way of bringing about national integration. It has to be brought about gradually and progressively. The first step in this direction lies in emotional  in tegration. Education should be directed to secularism. Doordarshn and All India Radio should inculcate national outlooks. There should be National Integration Councils at various levels.

National Integration must grow out of the people. It cannot be brought about by slogans and speeches. The people must realise that t he good of the country and their welfare are interlinked. They must realise the disintegration will go against their very existence.

There are regions and sub-regions in India. They differ from one another with regard of their socioculture. Each region and sub-region has its own interests and such sentiments are divisible and disintegrative. Others believe that in a federal national regional and sub-regional interests and sentiments have always been there. With minor modifications both the views are correct. If we examine the first view we can say that regionalism and sub-reginalism c annot be completely finished in a federal state. In other words there cannot be uniformly but there must be unity. Similarly, second view should be modified regionalism and sub-regionalism should not dominate nationalism. It should be subordinated to nationalism. National integration can reconcile regionalism and nationalism. After Independence India became a sovereign state and adopted a democratic constitution. Thus India developed national identity. The development of this identity meant sub ordination of regional identity. We are I ndians first then Punjabis, Bangalis o r Maharashtrians. This is reconciliation of nationalism and regionalism. But unhealthy regionalism and sub-regionalism. But unhealthy regionalism and sub-regionalism is dangerous. It can lead to disintegration.

Model essay on national integration for college level students

National integration.

In the Indian context, National Integration is a matter of paramount importance. As an ancient country with mind-boggling diversity of race, religion, language and culture, India relentlessly grapples with fissiparous tendencies. Thanks to a judicious mix of military power, political acumen and sagacious leadership, India has managed to stay united. But challenges crop up periodically from within the country and without. This is the reason why national integration needs to be fostered with the utmost zeal and verve.

In our neighborhood, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and even China struggle to rein in centrifugal forces that tend to tear apart the country. Even rich and advanced democratic countries like Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada experience difficulties to hold together. The mighty Soviet Union imploded without a single bullet being fired. The regions that broke away to become independent countries such as the Ukraine, Georgia etc. have themselves been bedeviled by secessionist forces. Quite inexplicably, even the heavily down-sized and truncated Russia has to contend with never-ending insurgency in the tiny Chechnya which aspires to be an independent nation.

It is essential to examine what binds nations. Is it religion? If so, why did Pakistan brake apart in 1971? Today, Baluchistan wants to secede to form an independent country. Is it the language and colour of skin of citizens that binds nations? If so, why does Scotland want to secede from the United Kingdom? Is it culture? If so, why Ukraine is disintegrating? So, no single factor can be responsible to make or break a nation state.

Political scientists have pondered over the matter for long, and have come to conclude that a combination of un-fulfilled political desires, religious persecution, linguistic hegemony, economic disparity, and above all, an indifferent central leadership can fuel anger and disaffection among smaller ethnic groups to break away from the mother country.

India had its bouts of disruptive upheavals in the past. The Tamils, fearing dominance by the Hindi-speaking North wanted to secede in the years after independence. Nehru smothered the demand through persuasion, patience, and accommodation. When the Khalistan forces reared their head, the government used brute police power (led by K. P. S Gill) to wipe their leaders off the soil of Punjab. The festering Naga problem and the pro-Pakistan Kashmir rebels have been more or less contained. But, has the challenge to the unity of India retreated for good? It would be naive to think so.

It is worth examining the present dangers to national integration in India. What we see today is a growing isolation of Muslims and Christians who find the interpretation of nationalism by chauvinistic Hindu groups too noxious to live with. Efforts have been made to undermine the liberal principles enshrined in the Constitution by various covert and overt methods by self-seeking politicians. This has caused great unease among the minorities and a vast majority of moderate Hindus. Of late, the Dalits, long disenchanted with the polity of the country, have come under attack from a group of ruling party leaders. They have been portrayed as anti-national, unpatriotic, and disloyal to the country. Such uncharitable characterization of Dalits or for that matter, any other group imperils national integration.

A certain political party based in Mumbai claims that the bustling metropolis is meant to benefit only the sons of the soil. Those from other states are treated as interlopers and rent-seekers. Such claims are bizarre, and run counter to the Constitution. To further boost their pseudo-nationalism, the party openly takes avirulent anti-Muslim stand, and goes to the extent of blocking visit of sports teams and artists from Pakistan. The obvious intent is to derive electoral gains, no matter how grievous harm the party does to the unity of the country. Cohesion, inclusiveness, liberal values, and tolerance are alien to the philosophy of such parties.

Another creed of politicians needlessly take un-compromising and rigid positions in matter of sharing of national resources such as river water. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu bicker over Cauvery water in summer. This particular problem has defied solution for years, simply because adopting stubborn position helps the parties in power to project themselves as the protectors of the state’s interests. Such naked provincialism needlessly fuels rivalry between the Kannadigas and the Tamils.

Karnataka and Maharastra are unfortunately locked in a boundary dispute that becomes more and more intractable as the two states harden their stands. For national integration, such myopic approach in resolving contentious issues proves to be a big hurdle.

Another shameful exhibition of intolerance is seen when young students and workers from the North Eastern states are harassed, roughed up in Delhi and Bangalore for the slightest of provocation. The young migrants feel embittered and disaffected. On going back home, they narrate the horror stories before their friends and relations, who seethe in anger against the rest of India. Thus, isolationism grows at the cost of integration.

Almost in the whole of North and in parts of Western India, Biharis are looked down upon as stupid, uncouth, and boorish. This is despite the fact that Bihar produces the highest number of civil service officers and IIT graduates on per capita basis. In doing manual labour in farms and factories, Biharis outperform people from all other states. Such gritty and brainy people from Bihar suffer humiliation because of the entrenched prejudice against them. How can they be expected to be seamlessly integrated to the rest of India when they are treated with scorn and ridicule?

The venomous exchange of diatribes between the Telugus of Telengana and Andhra Pradesh is a unique case of politicians succeeding in separating people with the same blood, same language and the same culture. Such is the power of self-seeking politicians in turning one brother against the other for narrow interests.

It is heartening to note that an institutional mechanism in the form of National Integration Council is in place to address dangers to national integration. Started by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961, this Council has the chief minister of all the states as its members. The Council deliberates on various issues endangering social harmony in the country and suggests measures to counter them. So far, the results have been mixed, but even its critics concede that it surely has helped in bridging differences and healing wounds in the body politic of the nation.

In conclusion, all of us need to realize that India today stands at a crossroads. If we stand united, bury our intolerance, and treat everyone as equal citizens of the country, we will propel our country to the zenith of power and prosperity. On the other hand, if we give short shrift to the spirit of the Constitution, fail to take everyone on board, and eschew inclusiveness, we will sink to the level of failed states like Somalia and Syria. In India’s rise lies the world’s rise: in India’s fall lies the world’s fall, because we make up one sixth of the mankind.

Paragraph On National Integration – 100 Words for Classes 1,2,3 Kids

Our nation, India, has various languages, cultures, castes, religions, and geographical differences. However, apart from these, there lies a feeling of oneness and unity among the people. This creates National Unity in a nation.

As the birds live together like one big family, humans should become that united leaving behind their social differences or history. Our nation should belong to this idea of togetherness.

The National Integration Council (NIC) was formed under the guidance of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1961. The council’s purpose was to pave the way to counter problems that hindered the growth of national unity.

Paragraph On National Integration – 150 Words for Classes 4, 5 Children

National unity is the feeling of togetherness among the citizens of the country. The idea of national integration has been constantly promoted since our independence. The leaders were well aware of the threats to this unity and consequently took the necessary measures to safeguard it in our Constitution.

This was ensured by implementing several ideals like Democracy, Secularism, and Social Equality. It is why the Constitution becomes one of the key forces behind the promotion of national integration.

The importance of ideals like national integration is of great value in developing countries like India. It can be a catalyst in removing the problems of the ancient Hindu conservative society. Political integration can also be achieved in the process, which would help the masses.

With time and the spread of education, this is no longer an impossible task to achieve. However, every individual should contribute their bit to the society to bring about this massive change.

Paragraph On National Integration – 200 Words for Classes 6, 7, 8 Students

National Integration has always been the force behind the idea of being a secular state. This implies that every citizen of our country has the fundamental right to freely practice his/ her religion. The Government or anyone, for that matter, cannot show any preference to one religion at the expense of another.

Coming to democracy, under this ideal, all the citizens of India are equal in the eyes of the law. Thus, the idea of national integration paves the way for the basic ideas mentioned in our Constitution.

However, it is not new that there have been many instances where people have been hostile towards a particular group, language, religion, culture, or beliefs. This again causes harm to the hard built national unity of the country.

Casteism also appears to be a great concern in the Indian sub-continent. People belonging to one particular caste are supportive of each other and oppose the progress of the other lower castes. Thus, in the appointment of jobs and educational institutions, caste is a primary field required to be mentioned.

The Government takes small measures to ensure safety and give equal privileges to the needy ensuring national integration; however, we as responsible citizens must also give due respect and realize the greatness of unity in diversity.

Paragraph On National Integration – 250 to 300 Words for Classes 9,10,11,12 and Competitive Exams Students

India is a country consisting of people from different backgrounds, mixed cultures, and various religious practices. It brings in a harmony of varied diversities together in its land, so it would be a great feeling if India could properly implement the idea of National Integration.

In the past, there has been a poor national integration which the history remembers until now. Thus, after independence, several measures were undertaken by the Jawaharlal Nehru Government to implement the idea of National Integration, by setting up the National Integration Council in 1961.

The population of India has a huge variety of people who live together but have contradicting opinions. In such a case, national disintegration and disunity may become common and evil to society. It would destroy the harmonious image of the nation. People might suffer from indignities and humiliations from the lack of Integrity. This disintegration could be the main cause of several national crises and the partition of the country.

There were several instances where we can find the lack of national unity resulting in the demise of a special power such as the Mughals attack in India, where there was no unity between the Rajputs. These incidents are past now and remain confined to the pages.

Now India is a free county, and unity must be restored. It should culminate in the minds of the people that we belong to one nation, and we must be together to move forward as a strong independent nation.

In today’s India, political integration is there. However, there is still a lack of emotional integration. We hope that soon, India will also achieve its emotional unity and preserve its national integration without which the nation’s progress is incomplete.

National Integration

National Integration

What is National Integration

Integration does not mean that there are no differences on any issue. Despite the differences, all accept what is in the larger interest of the nation. This national integration makes all citizens imbued with patriotism. They first consider themselves citizens of India, and next Hindus, Muslim or others. Notwithstanding differences in opinions and beliefs, all the people of a nation are full of mutual love, integration and brotherhood. National integration, thus, is a sentiment which reflects solidarity or patriotism among the people belonging to a nation. It fosters a common identity amongst the citizens of a country making them feel that they are all one.

National integration makes the nation strong and organized. It holds the people of various religions, sects, races, dress, civilization and culture together. Despite several differences, all the people remain in mutual harmony with each other.

India is a shining example of national integration. Very few countries have the kind of diversity that we have in our country. Here people of various castes and communities, whose lifestyle, cultures, languages and customs are completely different, live together. All are bound by the thread of national integration.

National Integration Vs Disintegration

Integration ensures that there is long term peace in a country. It is the quintessential power of an organization or society. Without organization, the welfare of society is not possible, and without integration, the society cannot establish an ideal. While integration is the unifying power for a society or country; the disintegration is a destructive power.

Disintegration breaks society whereas integration connects people on emotional plane. While integration takes society and the country to the peak of society; mutual disharmony leads to the destruction of society. A thread, if pieced together, can bind even a stubborn and powerful animal. But if the strands of a thread remain separate, they are unable to bind even a straw. In other words, we can say 5 organized people are better than 500 disorganized persons.

It is always good to be a part of an organization, irrespective of the domain. Organization is a symbol of progress. Similarly, the house where integration prevails is always full of peace and happiness. Even if a person is poor, but if all are together in his family or organization, he can never be unhappy, but where there is disintegration, i.e., no integration, that home suffers, no matter how much money, wealth it has accumulated.

India: Deep-rooted Integration

Our country is a land of different cultures and has a distinct identity all over the world. Despite linguistic, cultural, and regional diversity, Indians have managed to keep the national integration and integrity intact.

India is a confluence of different cultures, religions and communities. It grants equal status to all religions and sects. Despite diversity, there is integration in them. This is the reason why a sense of integration is reflected in them since centuries. We have always had a liberal approach. We respect truth and non-violence.

India’s multi-coloured and multi-layered ethos is rooted in its ethnic, cultural and religious diversity. No other country in the world offers such an awesome, creative burst of cultures and religions, races and tongues. India is the second largest country in Asia and the seventh largest and second most populous country on Earth.

A thriving civilization since 2500 BC, India represents an amazing confluence of different creeds, religions, faiths and belief systems. All the major religions of the world – Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Islam and Christianity including their sects – are found and practised in India with full freedom. India adheres to and cherishes the ideal of Sarva Dharma Samabhava (equal respect for all belief systems) founded in the ancient past. This has allowed not just tolerance towards religions and beliefs, but the freedom to propound one’s ideas and philosophies.

Hinduism per se is not a homogeneous religion and consists of a multiplicity of creeds and faiths, which are further divided among many castes, sects and sub-sects.

The pluralistic society has; therefore, allowed different faiths and religion get enriched with the unique experience that India offers. It has not only resulted in the creation of great centres of learning about different faiths and religions, but also legends, holy men, holy shrines and pilgrimages. They are not just confined to a region or state but are spread across the country, offering India the unique distinction of being the pilgrimage for the followers of almost all major religions of the world.

Significance of National Integration

Nations are built on the strength of integration. Without integration in each section of its population, the country cannot make any progress. There is great power in integration. Even a stronger enemy can be defeated on the strength of integration.

The divided people and fragmented society break apart. There is no advancement, but only decay and degeneration in disintegration. The society which is organized, tied in integration, can never be defeated because integration is the greatest strength but where there is break-up that society will be subject to destruction by anyone’s onslaught. A small organized society is better than a very large disintegrated society. If we want to create an ideal society, we need to march ahead on the path of integration.

Integration begins at home

Prior to the discussion on national integration, there is need for the integration in family. Until there is integration at home, it is not possible to have integration in the society, the nation, and the world. Only integration can make the society develop. Integration is born out of the sense of organization in a society that leads to lasting peace and joy.

As long as the integration in homes or society is strong, the nation too remains strong. External powers in these circumstances, cannot impact the integrity and sovereignty. But whenever the national integration is fractured, the nation has to deal with a crisis. If we turn the pages of our own history, we see that whenever our national integration has got weakened, each time external forces have taken advantage of it and we had to live under them.

Need of National Integration in India

National integration is essential for any nation. In a heterogeneous country like India, it acts as a cementing factor. Over the years, Pakistan has been trying to weaken national integration by creating Hindu-Muslim differences and inciting anti-India feeling and insurgency in Kashmir. By these divisive politics, the British ruled India for hundreds of years. But when the people of India displayed “Indianness” by forgetting all their differences, the British had to go back from India.

National unity and integration is absolutely necessary for the stability of democracy, defence of freedom and all-round development of the nation. Until the whole nation is bound in a spirit of unity, there would not be any development or economic progress in the country. Therefore, it is the duty of every citizen to promote nationalism to reinforce national integration. We require a strong nation to protect national integration. So, we should suppress disruptive elements by staying away from petty thinking centering on caste, regionalism, religion, etc.

Challenges to National Integration in India

In the ancient times, Indian culture used to easily assimilate other cultures, but now this trait has diminished to a great extent. As a result, residents of a state are sometimes not able to show tolerance for the customs, traditions and languages of the people of other states. Along with narrowness of culture, there has been so many rises in disruptive forces that national unity has become a complex problem in the country.

To solve this problem, we need to remove all the obstacles in the way of national unity and integration. Following are the challenges to national integration in India –

  • Casteism – Casteism is a major obstacle in the path of national integration. Great differences are found in inhabitants belonging to different religions and castes in India. Followers of one caste or religion consider themselves superior to those believing in other religions or castes. These tendencies sometimes turn so ugly and narrow that one is unable to adopt a broader view of national interest.
  • Communalism – It is a great obstacle in the way of national unity. In our country, there are followers of various religions: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, etc.  Though, generally all the citizens live in a spirit of harmony with one another, many times vested interests create feelings of mutual enmity and hatred, leading to communal clashes. We need to curb communal tendencies to keep national integration intact.
  • Provincialism – Provincialism is also a major obstacle in the path of India’s national unity.| On the one hand, there is an increasing tendencies for creation of new states on the basis of language, on the other hand, each state wants to have a controlling stake at the Centre. The narrow sense of provincialism in different states of the country is increasing mutual animosity between states.
  • Political parties – In democracy, it is necessary to have political parties for the creation of public opinion and political consciousness. That’s why after independence, various parties were created in our country. Unfortunately, there are many parties which seek votes on the basis of caste, religion, creed and region ignoring public and national interest. In a way, they are engaged in the work of national disintegration.
  • Linguistic differences – In a vast country like India, there is need for a national language which is spoken and understood in all regions. But due to narrow regional considerations, Hindi or any other language is yet to be embraced as means of communication by all peoples of the country. The politics over linguistic identity is also not allowing people to rise above their partisan differences over language.
  • Economic disparity – Great social as well as economic diversity is found in our country. Only a handful of people in the country are rich while the majority are poor. To earn livelihood remains a great problem for the poor, in solving which they are so busy all the time that they cannot think about the national integration. In the view of this, the economic disparity is a great obstacle in the way of national unity and integration.

Conclusion :

For a developing country like India, which for years has been a victim of slavery, it is a must to strengthen national integration to avoid threats such as communalism, casteism, and regionalism. These separatist tendencies undermine national integration, leading to bloodshed, carnage and riots, etc.

In addition to external elements, external forces too become deterrent to the national integration. The countries who jealous of the freedom and progress the country, always strive to divide and dismember the country. The insurgency in Kashmir has been sponsored and supported by such outside forces. The prolonged turmoil in Kashmir and the north-east India has led to separation of these region’s misguided youths from the national mainstream.

When the number of these disruptive elements tends to be higher, they strive for complete separation. India is a land of vast geographical diversity of the country where several religions, castes, tribes and sects live. These differences which are the pride of our culture, when distorted by vested interests, become an impediment to national unity and integration.

To maintain national integration, it is necessary to pay particular attention to elements of national integration: Indian Constitution, national symbols, national festivals, national anthem and social equity. We need to remember the tales of those great patriots laid down their lives to maintain the national freedom and sovereignty. Following the path and ideals of great patriots promotes national integration.

National Integration in India

India is a huge country with a population of billions. This means that there are many different religions, castes, and creeds. Moreover, India is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-regional and multi-ethnic nation.

In a country like India, it is very important for all political parties, no matter how big or small, to work together. Different languages are spoken here. The clothes they wear are different. Even Indian traditions and customs are very big and different. People eat in different ways. Here, many different religions are taught. But Indian culture and customs have brought Indians together and made them feel like they belong to the same country.

Even though India has a lot of different cultures but our constitution unites us together. It was made so that people of every religion, area, sex, and culture have the same rights. India was able to beat the British because its leaders were able to get all the Indians to work together.

National integration is not a simple task, but a complicated process. It has a lot of parts that need to be worked on. To solve problems and get what we want, we need to focus on finding solutions. India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, also said that national integration is an important goal for the country and that, even though it’s hard, we can do it if we work together.

National Integration refers to the connection and unity between individuals irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or gender. It's the feeling of brotherhood, unity and social cohesion within the society and communities of the country. National Integration is a way to keep the country united and strong from within, despite the diversity. Therefore, the significance of national integration can be best explained by the phrase 'Unity in Diversity. Such a country will always be on the path of development and prosperity.

National integration plays a vital part in bringing the nation together as one. It is achieved by bringing together all sections of society. It offers equal opportunities for every citizen. It also provides the same platform for cultural, social and economic growth.

National integration helps unify minorities and also provides them with the freedom to live their lives in their manner without having to be influenced. Therefore, national integration is crucial to the growth of the nation. Since a country that has unification will always prosper and grow.

National integration is primarily aimed at creating more favourable conditions for people living in the nation. This allows them to develop their own capabilities in all aspects. It also helps to unite the multi-racial and multilingual population of India, having individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds. It also increases the bond of brotherhood between communities, societies, and people.

National integration is also helpful in maintaining an equilibrium in the nation and contributes to its overall development. It promotes the spirit of community and helps fight regionalism, casteism, and the linguism of today, for instance. National Integration increases the sense of fraternity and loyalty to the nation. It helps unite the citizens in the event of a crisis.

This will aid in the promotion of the integrity of the Economy. This is among the main factors in the promotion of national integration. Respect for and tolerance of other religious or caste-based groups also helps to ensure the integrity of the country. Education, as well as cultural and social unity among the population, help to instil a sense of national unity.

National integration plays an extremely crucial role in the cultural, economic, and social aspects of a nation. It can benefit a nation in the following manners:

National integration allows the citizens of a nation to be at peace. It is achieved through strengthening the social bonds between them. It promotes brotherhood, peace and understanding between them.

National integration is a way to bring together individuals of various races, creeds, or castes and helps to make the country into a single entity. It strengthens the nation and helps put forth a powerful front on the international stage.

It is well-known that a country which is free of internal problems and issues will always be prosperous and on the path toward growth. A united country will have fewer problems than those that are socially unstable.

National integration fosters an individual's loyalty to the nation. It helps people unite and stand for the progress of the country without focusing on their concerns.

People of many faiths, cultures and communities form India's diverse population. Indians come from a broad array of religious and cultural backgrounds. Though there are many people from different backgrounds living in India, there exists certain unity binding them in peace and harmony. It is evident from India's huge national integration that each Indian citizen considers their country as their homeland. However, there are some who are still standing against the nation's integration. In recent times it has seen a downfall in the level of national integration.

. The Indian population consists of individuals who live together; however, they have different beliefs or opinions and practices that are not compatible with each other. In such circumstances, integration into a national society is not common, and the discord grows in a way that causes greater damage to the society as these issues are likely to cause harm to stability, peace and even the image of the nation. Individuals from different groups might be affronted and feel a lack of trust in these circumstances.

The disintegration of the nation can lead to division and a national crisis like the one that occurred during the time that India was split into Pakistan and India in 1947. We need to work as a unit to avoid another repeat of this tragedy and to ensure that the nation remains united. Disunity among people has always led to immense suffering and invasion by foreign powers. Mughal rule was a result of disharmony between various Rajput Kingdoms, while the Britishers took advantage of the tension between various sects of the society.

The after-effects of these attacks are still visible. In present-day India, as an independent nation, more unity among the citizens is needed to succeed as a nation. It is essential for the citizens to recognise how they are all part of one nation, which can never be separated for any reason and how they should always remain united in order to build a stronger and independent nation. Political integration is present in modern India. Emotional integration, on the contrary, could be enhanced. India must also work towards national unity and emotional harmony for further advancement and development feasible for the nation.

Education is crucial because it influences our opinions and ideas. The good news is that India has had some excellent teachers prior to and following Independence. Teachers play an essential part in the development of the brains of young children that make up the future of any nation. In the course of history, many famous people like Rani Laxmi Bai and Lal Bahadur Shastri, along with their iconic words like 'Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan', have entered the collective psyche.

The curriculum developed by NCERT, along with renowned academicians, also played a crucial role in the creation of the idea of India. Additionally, students often move to different parts of the state to continue their education in various colleges. This has enabled the students to think beyond the barriers of caste, creed and religion. Unfortunately, student enrolments in higher-education institutions are quite low, with only 12-13 per cent of our population being able to access higher education. While for the United States, it is around 87 per cent, in Europe, there is greater than 50, and in China, the figure is around 25.

Therefore, it is possible to expect that in the near future, due to the creation of private institutions and initiatives by the government which will allow higher education to be more accessible, the number of students enrolled in these institutions is likely to increase. People of various ethnic groups, as well as marginalised groups, such as women, minority tribes, and others, who have previously been marginalised, are now gradually integrating with the majority of the population, due in large part because of the inclusive educational system. "Right education available to everybody is arguably the primary solution for most of our maladies," stated Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

In the age of technological advancements where social media is easily accessible, it's very easy to fall for a false impression. National integration can help to avoid these kinds of situations. It makes people more intellectually mature and more tolerant.

National integration is a crucial factor in the progress of a nation. National integration is important for any country since it has been proven numerous times throughout the history of humanity that a nation whose population was divided tends to collapse. India was able to win against the Britishers only because the leaders of India were successful in uniting all the Indians. Mahatma Gandhi has rightly said- "Unity, to be real, must stand the severest strain without breaking."

Introduction

National integration is defined as the bond that exists among all citizens of a country, regardless of gender, race, religion, or any other element. It does not discriminate against anyone for any reason or factor. It helps us learn to treat each other well.

Vedantu provides a few examples of national integration speeches that any student can utilise to improve their English exam scores.

Speech on National Integration

Good morning, everyone!

I am grateful to my teachers and Principal Sir for providing me with the opportunity to speak to you all on national integration.

Those are only two simple words, but believe me when I say that they are the most powerful force driving a nation's progress; especially when the country is as culturally, religiously, and linguistically diverse as India.

National integration is synonymous with national unity. It is a state in which a country's citizens, despite their differences, remain unified for a common goal.

India is a shining example of national integration in action. The world has always been surprised by India's diversity. There's also an old Indian saying: "Kos kos pe badle pani, char kos pe badle wani," which means that the flavour of water in India varies every 200 metres, and the language changes every 800 metres. Despite its vast diversity, the people of India remain unified and adhere to a single constitution. This is purely a matter of national integration.

National integration is also important for the country to remain progressive and prosperous.

National integration develops a sense of belonging among all Indian citizens and makes them more loyal to their nation. It is one of India's key strengths, and it has been effective in keeping external dangers at bay while fighting off internal ones.

I believe I was able to convey the genuine meaning of national integration in the most straightforward manner imaginable. Thank you for your time and attention. Salute to India! Jai Hind!

FAQs on National Integration Speech

1. What are some tips before giving a Speech?

Before starting the research work for speech students should consider the audience and the event. One of the most crucial speech recommendations is to consider the audience size.

Students should narrow their focus and compose an articulate speech.

Practice more and more. Look into the mirror and recite your speech.

Rehearse your speech in front of your teacher and ask them for feedback.

Make sure to pay thanks and respect to your listeners while ending your speech.

2. How do you begin your speech?

Always start with a quote.

When you ask a "what if" question, the listener is invited to follow your mental process.

Use imaginary examples and phrases like “imagine if you”.

Ask questions and involve your audience.

Use facts and figures.

To get your message through quickly, choose an unexpected, strong, and unique statistic that will resonate with the audience.

By leaving the audience guessing about what you're about to say next, a remark or phrase can grab their attention. After that, use the quiet technique to enhance the impression.

3. How does speech add to the learning process?

The development of speech is a crucial aspect of learning. When a child learns to speak correctly at a young age, he or she is more likely to understand reading, writing, and less related subjects such as math and science.

You can help your child develop healthy speech patterns and language skills in a variety of ways as a parent. Focusing on these elements at home helps to establish a strong foundation for early childhood education.

4. What is the purpose of the speech?

Speeches are often used to make people think, convince them, teach them, or cheer them up. A speaker strengthens his or her thoughts and ideas by making sure that everything he or she says to back up his or her point is in line with the general goal of the speech.

Consider a speech in the form of an inverted pyramid. The speech's broadest aim is represented by the pyramid's widest tip. It's all too easy to get caught up in the details, but it's just as vital to step back and examine the speech's overall goal.

5. What does a successful speech require?

An effective speech should be persuasive, appealing, intelligible, to the point, and meaningful, with suitable voice modulation, gesture, posture, body language, metaphors, and body language. A successful speech needs careful planning, preparation, and delivery.

Make use of humour and puns. Make sure you don't go on talking for too long. Keep it brief and to the point. Have a well-defined structure. Telling your audience what you're going to say, telling them, and then telling them what you've said is a good technique. A good structure is to divide the core message into three linked points that can be subdivided as needed.

Essay on National Integration and Communal Harmony in India

' data-src=

Meaning of National Integration and Communal Harmony:

National Integration refers to the perception of single national identity among people of a country belonging to various races, castes and religion.

Communal Harmony refers to the harmony, acceptance and love among the people of various communities belonging to different castes, races and religion.

Communal Harmony is the most important pre-condition for feeling of Unity and National Integration in India.

Introduction:

From time Immemorial, it has been seen that different races fought battles against each other on Indian soil and got themselves firmly entrenched, but India has assimilated them all into her blood. The conflicting cultures were at last modeled by this country to her own genesis and pattern.

India has witnessed a great diversity of faith and religion from the earliest times, but this has not interfered with the peaceful pursuit of the ways of life of different sections. Christians and Jews who came to India in the first century of the Christian era found hospitable reception here. After several centuries, the Parsis and Muslims received equal reception. Ever since then, India has been marked by the prosperity of communities belonging to different religions. The people of India values the importance of National Integration.

The dictum of catholicity of Indian Culture, ‘live and let live’, have been forged through ages, different religious races and cultures of the vast country into a united concept of oneness that is India. It was this inherent unity and communal harmony which enabled India to fight against the British might as one man for freedom.

write an essay on national integration

The Preamble to the Constitution described India as a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and secures to all citizens liberty of thought, expression belief, faith and worship.

Articles 25 to 30, in particular, guarantee to everyone the right of freedom of religion freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practice and propagate religion.

Communal Harmony is a pre-requisite for National integration in India

Communalism endangers National Integration. National integration is thus an established fact. Why are we then worried? The cause of anxiety is the separatist tendency which tends to endanger the age-old communal harmony and unity of the country. The fissiparous tendencies like aggressive communalism, regionalism, linguism, religious bigotry and casteism are threatening the natural integration. Let us therefore, study the genesis and forms of operation of these tendencies, so that concrete steps may be taken to eliminate these trends from our society.

The foremost danger to National Integration is rapid communalism.

Communalism’s ugliest manifest is communal riots which occur in this country with a disconcerting frequency. The worst affected States are Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar and also in Delhi city.

Admittedly, there is no doubt that the communal question was nurtured and grew to menacing proportions with the politically motivated encouragement given by British rulers to certain communities. The expectations of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru did not come into reality. The spurt of communal riots in the post independence years is as a reminder of the harsh reality and proved that communalism has now deeper roots than before. Now, steps should therefore, be taken to to strengthen the feeling of National Integration, Unity and Communal Harmony.

Linguism is yet another problem and sectarian sentiment which has been granulated in the recent past. The reorganization of states on linguistic basis is considered to have given impetus to linguism. Again, the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India roused linguistic sentiments.

Casteism constitutes yet another potential threat to the Communal Harmony and National Integration in India. From the time immemorial this system has been grown up. Now it is one of the great problems of our society. Casteism might have done well but at the moment it endangers our national unity. But it is a misfortune that our political parties in their keenness to win the elections have revived caste feelings.

Conclusion:

It is the sacred duty of our political leaders to inject the importance of communal harmony in their political programs. The danger of communalism can be averted if the self-defeating and suicidal slogans like ‘my state’, my language’, my caste’ and after all ‘my religion’ are supreme, give way to the noble sentiment of India first and last and always. It will integrate our emotions and aspirations and ensure Communal Harmony and National integration of the country. Then the slogan ‘unity in diversity’ will be true and be our hopes and aspirations.

These students explored behind the scenes at NASA's Glenn Research Center and Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) in Cleveland after writing the top essays in the national contest.

The competition for kindergarten through 12th grade students focuses on the enabling power of radioisotopes. Students were challenged to learn how NASA has powered some of its most famous science missions and to dream up how their personal “superpower” would energize their own radioisotope-powered science mission.

Judges narrowed down over a seventeen hundred creative essays to 45 semi-finalists, who received prize packs, nine finalists, who participated in a videoconference with NASA experts, and three winners, who were awarded with a visit to NASA Glenn.

“I’m so impressed by the work of these talented young students. It’s wonderful to see their interest, innovation, and creativity at this stage in their lives. Our future is bright!

“I’m so impressed by the work of these talented young students,” said Dr. Wanda Peters, acting deputy center director at NASA Glenn. “It’s wonderful to see their interest, innovation, and creativity at this stage in their lives. Our future is bright!”

Rainie Lin , the kindergarten through fourth grade winner; Aadya Karthik , the fifth through eighth grade winner, and Thomas Liu , the ninth through 12th grade winner, toured several research facilities including the Electric Propulsion and Power Laboratory , Telescience Support Center , Graphics and Visualization Lab , and Simulated Lunar Operations Lab . Along the way, they met with engineers and researchers to learn about NASA’s missions and the technologies that are innovating exploration.

The next day students and their families traveled to GLSC, which houses NASA Glenn’s Visitor Center. Accompanied by members of NASA’s Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS) team, the group toured the visitor center and explored the many interactive displays.

“It was our pleasure to host the three student winners of The Power to Explore Challenge, and I hope that this visit will further inspire and motivate them to pursue their interests in science and exploration,” said Carl Sandifer, manager for NASA’s RPS Program. "We are so impressed by the ideas and quality of the essays submitted this year and we can’t wait to what new ideas student come up with for next year’s challenge!”

The Power to Explore Challenge asked students to learn about the RPS, one of NASA’s “nuclear batteries” it uses to explore some of the most extreme destinations in our solar system and beyond. Students then wrote about their own power to achieve goals in 250 words or less.

NASA will hold its fourth-annual Power to Explore Challenge later this fall. For more information on the challenge visit: The Power to Explore Writing Challenge homepage .

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE:

Power to Explore is a national essay challenge that asks students in grades K-12 to learn about Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS), a type of “nuclear battery” that NASA uses to explore some of the most extreme destinations in our solar system and beyond, and then write about, in 250 words or less, an RPS-powered space mission that would energize their space exploration dreams.

Tim Walz's military record: What to know about potential VP's National Guard service

write an essay on national integration

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, choosing a progressive yet plain-spoken VP candidate from America’s heartland to help her win over rural, white voters.

“I’m pleased to share that I’ve made my decision: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will join our campaign as my running mate,” Harris said via text to supporters. “Tim is a battle-tested leader who has an incredible track record of getting things done for Minnesota families. I know that he will bring that same principled leadership to our campaign, and to the office of the vice president.”

We look at Walz, a 60-year-old U.S. Army National Guard veteran, and his military career over the years.

How long was Walz in the military?

Walz served in the military for 24 years, enlisting in the Nebraska National Guard at 17 in 1981 and then transferring to the Minnesota National Guard in 1996. He retired in 2005 to begin his successful run for the U.S. House, representing Minnesota as command sergeant major, among the highest ranks for enlisted soldiers. His battalion went on to deploy to Iraq shortly after Walz's retirement.

Walz specialized in heavy artillery and had proficiency ribbons in sharpshooting and hand grenades.

But during the 21 years that Walz spent working with large artillery pieces, he suffered hearing loss and tinnitus in both ears, Minnesota Public Radio reported. He was allowed to continue his service after undergoing surgery, which partially resolved his hearing loss.

Where did Walz serve, and what did he do in the National Guard?

During his service, Walz responded to natural disasters, including floods and tornadoes in Minnesota and Nebraska, and was deployed overseas for months at a time, according to MPR.

In 2003, he was sent to Italy, where he served with the European Security Force to support the war in Afghanistan. He was also stationed in Norway for joint training with other NATO militaries.

Walz told MPR that he reenlisted in the National Guard after the September 11 attacks but never saw active combat in his years in the military.

Stars and Stripes reported in 2020 that Walz credited his Army experience with helping him steer Minnesota through the COVID-19 pandemic as governor.

As governor of Minnesota, Walz is commander in chief of the 13,000-soldier Minnesota National Guard. “I’m certainly proud of my military service, but it’s one piece of me,” he told Minnesota Public Radio in 2018. “It doesn’t define me.”

The Australian Professor Who Turned Breaking on Its Head

Rachael Gunn, known as B-girl Raygun, displayed some … unique moves as she competed in a field with breakers half her age. The judges and the internet were underwhelmed.

Reporting from Paris

Breaking made its debut as an Olympic sport Friday, and among the competitors was Dr. Rachael Gunn, also known as B-girl Raygun, a 36-year-old professor from Sydney, Australia, who stood out in just about every way.

By day, her research interests include “dance, gender politics, and the dynamics between theoretical and practical methodologies.” But on the world’s stage in Paris, wearing green track pants and a green polo shirt instead of the street-style outfits of her much younger fellow breakers, she competed against the 21-year-old Logan Edra of the United States, known as Logistx.

During the round robin, as Raygun and Logistx faced off, Raygun laid on her side, reached for her toes, spun around, and threw in a kangaroo hop — a nod to her homeland. She performed a move that looked something like swimming and another that could best be described as duckwalking. The high-speed back and head spins that other breakers would demonstrate were mostly absent.

The crowd cheered Raygun politely. The judges weren’t as kind. All nine voted for Logistx in both rounds of the competition; Logistx won, 18-0.

Online, Raygun’s performance quickly became a sensation, not necessarily in a flattering way.

“The more I watch the videos of Raygun, the Aussie breaker, the more I get annoyed,” one viewer posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “There’s 27.7 million Australians in the world and that’s who they send to the Olympics for this inaugural event??? C’mon now!”
