Sarah Terez Rosenblum, MFA

Sarah Terez Rosenblum’s work has appeared in literary magazines such as The Normal School, Prairie Schooner (shortlisted for the publication’s Summer 2020 Creative Nonfiction Prize), Diagram , Brevity, Third Coast , and Carve. In 2022, Rosenblum was shortlisted for StoryQuarterly ’s annual fiction contest. She has written for sites that include Salon, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Satirist, and Pop Matters .

Pushcart Prize-nominated, she earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Rosenblum is a creative coach and developmental editor. She also teaches creative writing at Story Studio, where she was voted 2022 Teacher of the Year, and at the University of Chicago Writer’s Studio. Rosenblum’s novel, Herself When She’s Missing , was called “poetic and heartrending” by Booklist .

Take your class online with SUNY

You will learn the same curriculum as our on-campus students, how to register for an online course, let's put your mind at ease about online learning.

• Search Search for an online course by keyword, semester, campus, area, or a combination of each.
• Select Course Select a course from the results list that fits your needs.
• Visit College Website Click “register now” to visit the college website to register as a “non-credit” or “non-matriculated” student if you are not enrolled at the campus.
• Contact Registrar Contact the registrar’s office or enrollment office to register for the course. Make sure you have the course name and course ID when you register.
• Transfer Credits If you plan to transfer credit for the course, make sure you have reviewed the course with the advisor at your current college to ensure the credits will transfer to your degree program.
• Locate Course Materials Once you register for the course, visit the campus bookstore to find the books and materials for the course. You will need the course ID to find the books.

Building Fictional Worlds

The School of Visual Arts online courses are hosted in Canvas, our College-wide learning system. Most computers (5 years old or newer recommended) can access the course(s) without a problem. The courses work with Windows (Windows 7 and newer), Macintosh (Mac OSX 10.10 and newer), and Linux (chromeOS). Participants will need a minimum screen size of 800x600 (the average size of a netbook) and good broadband (Minimum of 512kbps) Internet connection to participate in the online courses.

One business day after completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email from the Registrar’s Office which includes a schedule, username and password .

• Search for an email with subject line: “Your SVA Class Schedule” - sometimes the email goes to spam or junk.
• Search an alternate email address that you might have used to register.

Steps to Access Your Online Course

• Select the Canvas LMS icon
• The Canvas application is your online classroom. Here you can find your Zoom links and course materials such as supply lists, discussion boards, recorded lectures, etc. You will use Zoom for live video meetings. Your instructor will show you around how their particular course is organized.

2022 Federal Plain Language Summit

On August 24, 2022, our summit brought together federal employees to highlight plain language successes in many federal agencies at all stages of the communications journey. Experience the slides and some recordings from some of our speakers. Speakers addressed debunking myths, meeting varying audience’s needs, managing the review process and stakeholders, and supporting plain language editors.

The Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) is a community of federal employees dedicated to the idea that citizens deserve clear communication from government. The flexibility of the online format makes it easy to take Continuing Studies Creative Writing courses taught by instructors from Stanford's writing community.
