The exact tests featured on your TestGorilla assessment are not revealed until the assessment itself, making preparation difficult. How do TestGorilla Assessments Work?

Testgorilla assessment length:.

TestGorilla allows its client companies to use as few as one test and one custom question , and as many as 5 tests and 20 custom questions . Thus, the duration of the assessment can vary significantly.

However, TestGorilla advise their clients to keep assessments under an hour in order to maintain a positive candidate experience. The exception is software development assessments, which include coding tests. These will often surpass the 60 minutes mark.

Time Constraint:

Every test is timed, such that you will receive 1 minute per question on average . The timer is situated at the top of the screen.

Because these tests are often about an hour long (longer for coding tests) and the clock is constantly visible, you will likely be under constant time pressure while taking the assessment.

Skipping and Taking a Break

You can technically skip questions on the TestGorilla Assessment, but you will not be given a chance to go back and see a skipped question . Therefore, if you find yourself struggling, it is wiser to make an educated guess.

You cannot pause a test, but you can take as long as you want in between tests.

All TestGorilla tests begin by presenting you with 4 practice questions, to ensure you understand the instructions. You will have 5 minutes to complete these questions, after which the test will commence:

Numerical reasoning tests evaluate your mathematical aptitude.

TestGorilla offers a number of simple calculation tests; these typically require you to complete mental maths (as in TestGorilla’s Intermediate Math, Double-Digit Math, and Triple-Digit Math tests).

More commonly used is TestGorilla's Numerical Reasoning Assessment , which is  10 minutes long and contains 12 questions . Like the calculation exams mentioned above, the test measures your familiarity with basic mathematical operations, ratios , and percentages and your ease in performing them. This particular test also involves more complex mathematical questions like number series or reading and interpreting tables and graphs .

A calculator and pen-and-paper are allowed.

TestGorilla’s Verbal Reasoning, Following Instructions, and Reading Comprehension tests are all verbal assessments that require you to read a passage and answer questions about it . They focus on drawing conclusions from the text and, in the case of Following Instructions, paying attention to order and sequence.

To prevent accidents, all Highland plumbers must now work according to specific instructions. This is the first guide: dishwasher removal.

Step 1: Turn the power and water off.  Step 2: Pull out the old dishwasher and remove it from under the counter.  Step 3: Follow the electrical cord to where it is connected. Step 4: Disconnect the electrical cord from the power source.  Step 5: Locate the water line under the dishwasher and remove it.  Step 6: Locate the dishwasher's drain line under the sink. Step 7: Disconnect the dishwasher's drain line from the sink's drain line.

Now that the dishwasher is completely disconnected, remove it and clean out the area. You can now move to our second guide on how to install a new dishwasher.

To determine which conclusions follow from the given statements, let's analyze each statement and conclusion systematically.

  • 1. Some students have money.

This conclusion follows logically from the statements. We know for a fact that there is a subgroup of students who have a job. We also know that it is impossible (due to statement 2) not to have money if you have a job.

Therefore, that subgroup of students with a job must have money. This conclusion is valid.

  • Everyone who has money also has a job.

This conclusion does not logically follow from the statements. While it's true that those with a job have money (Statement 2), this doesn't imply that everyone who has money must have a job. There could be other sources of money not mentioned in the statements.

That conclusion does follow.

Problem Solving Assessment

TestGorilla's Problem-solving psychometric exam is a category of its own. Its purpose is to evaluate your ability to solve problems. There are four types of questions, including timetable questions, rate questions, arrangements questions, and table questions. The test is 9 minutes long and features 12 questions.

In such questions, you can work systematically by first examining the beginning of the sentence and eliminating all sentences where the first part does not fit the question (in this case, the type of food). Move on to the second part next, now with fewer choices to pick from.

Attention to Detail and Spatial Reasoning

Spatial Reasoning refers to the ability to orient yourself on a map and to visualise what shapes look like when rotated or flipped .

The purpose of this test is to test your ability to pay attention to detail in a visual format. You are happy there is a good atmosphere in the office, but feel uncomfortable about the effect it is having on your employees' work.

What would be the best response?

Since the team is cooperative and has shown high performance before, discussing the issue with them and asking for their cooperation ( response C ) is likely to provide results. This direct approach shows your ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, and it demonstrates your ability to use effective strategies to increase staff productivity. Thus, this is an effective way to encourage employee development.

Responses A and B will both be seen by your team as a disciplinary action, which they will likely find unnecessary given that having a good atmosphere while still being productive has worked in the past.

Announcing deadlines (response D) could be an effective response. In general, this is an effective way of increasing productivity. However, this response also includes disciplinary action which, again, is too early to take, as you have not tried to solve the problem in alternative ways first.

Although the statement “ I keep others in line ” reflects management skills, it could be found to be a little “pushy” in a teamwork environment and is a good "Least" in this case.

TestGorilla’s Anti-Cheating Measures

TestGorilla has incorporated several measures to prevent cheating. Many candidates are put off by one particular measure: you are required to give the platform access to your webcam, so it can take periodical pictures of you .

If this is a red line for you, you do not have to move forward with the assessment. However, TestGorilla is GDPR compliant , and you will be able to read their privacy policy at the start of the assessment.

Other anti-cheating measures may also be included, if the issuing company has chosen to enable them, such as permanent full screen (making it impossible to leave the assessment window), screenshots being taken every fixed amount of time, and disabled copy and paste.

What do I need for the TestGorilla Assessment?

Additionally, if your test includes a pre-recorded video question, you will want to be dressed in business smart attire to make a good impression.

Can I take the TestGorilla Assessment on a mobile device or tablet?

There is no barrier to stop you from taking the assessment on a mobile device, but it is strongly recommended to use a desktop or laptop computer. 

For TestGorilla coding assessments, the platform will inform you that it is highly discouraged to use a mobile or tablet device, because coding typically requires a computer.

Can I do the assessment more than once?

The link you receive will expire once you complete your TestGorilla assessment. TestGorilla have measures in place to detect the same user taking the assessment from different devices, so while you could try this option in theory, honesty is the best policy.

Can I get special accommodations for the assessment?

Critical thinking tests provide companies valuable insight into the leadership, reasoning, and overall capabilities of candidates. However, it is commonly administered to those applying for criminal justice and business-related occupations.

How Is the Critical Thinking Test Scored?

The critical reasoning test is scored based on your raw score and your percentile in comparison with your norm group. It’s important to note that these will not be the same number.

A norm group is a collection of scores from individuals in your field at your level of experience. The percentile score is used to alert employers if you exceed, meet or miss the benchmark for the average expectations of candidates. You will be rated on a scale of one to one hundred with fifty consisting of the mean and median scores.

A raw score is simply the number of correct answers. The critical thinking test comprises your raw score based on the performance in the following areas:

  • Recognizing Assumptions The candidate must be able to understand when a statement is made with no supporting evidence and how this can affect a decision. Further, candidates are asked to identify these discrepancies, whether they are stated explicitly or implicitly, and assess its relevance to the given scenario.
  • Evaluating Arguments Candidates must evaluate arguments without considering inferences or being subjective. Beyond that, candidates must assess the supporting evidence, the structure of the argument and the degree of its influence. It is very important to dismiss emotions for this portion of the critical thinking test.
  • Drawing Conclusions Drawing conclusions puts a large emphasis on reasoning. In this section, it’s important to assess all of the available evidence and data to form a plausible conclusion that accurately applies to all the given information. Employers also want to see candidates that will consider all possible solutions rather than making the evidence fit a desired narrative.

Employers will receive all of this information in a performance report construed by the assessment company. Employers will also be given insight into your overall potential, job knowledge, creativity and job performance per the report.

Where Will I Take a Critical Thinking Test?

Critical thinking tests are non-proctored online assessments that are typically sent via email after an initial screening. For some occupations, the company may ask that the candidate take the critical thinking test again on-site either before their final interview or during an assessment day. The most common test candidates are asked to take is the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA) created by the popular assessment company, Pearson . This assessment company is on their third edition with new scoring and subsets described above. The WGCTA gained popularity because of its ability to assess a candidate’s potential alongside their aptitude. Another established assessment is the SHL Critical Reasoning Battery that contains sixty questions with a thirty-minute time limit. Both of the aforementioned critical thinking tests are multiple choice.

How to Prepare for the Critical Thinking Test?

The critical thinking test is difficult to study for because the test is designed to assess your bare knowledge and raw skills. In order to prepare successfully, it is important to focus on the areas of the test that you can equip yourself for. One aspect of the test that demands preparation is the time limit. Many candidates’ scores are negatively impacted because they skip or guess too many of the questions in an attempt to beat the clock. If you want to optimize your chances of achieving a good score, use online practice tests to acquaint yourself with the time constraint and the general theme of the questions. By utilizing the online practice tests, you can find the pace that works best for you. Another helpful way to prepare is running through sample questions. In the famous 1971 Stanford experiment, 24 normal, healthy male students were randomly assigned as 'guards' (12) or 'prisoners' (12). What questions can I expect?

Questions are likely based on the Watson and Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal model, which contains five sections designed to assess how well an individual reasons analytically and logically. The five sections are:

Arguments : In this section, you are tested on your ability to distinguish between strong and weak arguments. For an argument to be strong, it must be both significant and directly related to the question. An argument is considered weak if it is not directly related to the question, of minor importance, or confuses correlation with causation, which is the incorrect assumption that correlation implies causation.

Assumptions : An assumption is something taken for granted. People often make assumptions that may not be correct. Being able to identify these is a key aspect of critical reasoning. A typical assumption question will present a statement and several assumptions, and you are required to identify whether an assumption has been made.

Deductions : Deduction questions require you to draw conclusions based solely on the information provided in the question, disregarding your own knowledge. You will be given a passage of information and must evaluate whether a conclusion made from that passage is valid.

Interpretation : In these questions, you are given a passage of information followed by a proposed conclusion. You must consider the information as true and decide whether the proposed conclusion logically and undoubtedly follows.

Inferences : Inference involves drawing conclusions from observed or supposed facts. It is about deducing information that is not explicitly stated but implied by the given information. For example, if we find a public restroom door locked, we infer that it is occupied.

What's your opinion regarding TestGorilla assessment?

I've been invited to take a TestGorilla assessment for a local startup company. It requires at least more than an hour to complete the assessment and you need to provide access to your camera while doing the test. Also, your browser will be maximized and they can detect if you turned it off and you maybe try to search or google for help or answers.

I tried it even though I don't like these kind of tests since it seems like the company is a good startup with happy employees but upon seeing the questions, damn, I wish I didn't. I've been self-learning front-end web development for almost 8 months now but the questions are just too damn hard for 25k pesos and mostly not related to the role I'm applying for which is Junior Front-End Developer.

Is it really this hard to apply to PH based companies? Sorry for the rant but it seems like this practice is pretty common here in PH. I know I'm being a crybaby and I deserve to be hated but I just want to vent out my frustration. I don't feel like these test actually measure my worth as a candidate. :)

    I took the Test Gorilla assessment yesterday and it's not worth it. The questions I had varied from personality assessment, critical thinking, problem solving, a video response and finally a short essay - all for what is essentially a tech support role for onboarding in an SaaS environment. I found it to be frustrating and irrelevant.
