Time is Money Essay

Time is money and it is precious and irreplaceable. On one hand, time can be used to earn money but on the other hand, money cannot be used to buy back the time we have already lost. Here are a few sample essays on “Time Is Money”.

100 Words Essay On Time Is Money

Any person's future in the world is unexpected. We never know when a great opportunity will present itself and show us the way to success. It just relies on how individuals define their priorities and manage their time. The way we utilise our time is a major determinant of whether we progress or witness stagnation or regression. One of the best ways to make good use of time is to tie ourselves in a productive daily routine. If we effectively use time, nobody can ever defeat us at any stage of life. By effectively using our time, we can improve our daily productivity, and hence, eventually our quality of life.

Time is Money Essay

200 Words Essay On Time Is Money

It is popularly said “Time is money”. Let us compare the two.

Time Vs Money

Once spent, time is irreversible, but money may be earned back. The rich and the poor still have the same amount of time in their day, but the rich have access to money that the poor do not. Money may be kept on hand for a while, but time cannot be stored. Time is perpetually finite and unabated, while money may be raised by working harder. Time is not constant and keeps moving forward, although money may stay the same for a while. While money's worth may diminish with time, that of time does not.

Scoring Less, Not Valuing Time

Last year I had my board exams. I could have performed better than how I did. I haven't taken it seriously ever since the start of Class 12. I always thought I would have plenty of time to study just before the exams. My study hours were irregular. I saw my marks getting low with each exam and my friends scoring more and more. I realised how foolish I was to waste time when I should have utilised it best. But it was too late for me by that time. Exams were already over, my marks were low, and I kept regretting why I wasted so much time. That day I realised that time is money. It is the most valuable thing to a person; if wasted, it does not return.

500 Words Essay On Time Is Money

We only have a finite amount of time throughout our lifetime, so it is valuable. Time does not wait for anyone, which makes it adaptable and vicious. Use your time wisely at all times.

Time Management Tips

Some of the ways by which we can save time are:-

Planning our day: Finding out how long each task takes, then planning our time accordingly. This will enable us to make room for important contacts such as calls, meetings, and breaks. By planning our day, we can avoid wasting time pondering what to do next and jump right from one duty to the next.

Using checklists: Making a list of what we need to do during the workday. This can help us plan our time more effectively by better understanding how much time we spend on each task. Thus as we work to finish our tasks, this will also boost our productivity.

Removing distractions: We can save time by eliminating potential distractions and improving our ability to concentrate on the current work. This may involve turning off the notifications from the phone and closing any windows on our PC which we are not using. Keeping our area distraction-free helps us become more productive and save more time.

Efficiently using our free time: We should use our free time while working on a major activity to complete the minor projects below on the priority list. This can involve checking desks for clutter or sending out non-urgent emails. By doing this, we can get rid of these tasks and avoid putting them off for later.

Grouping similar tasks : We can increase efficiency by grouping related jobs together. Going through all of our emails at once or running errands that call for the same location away from your desk are examples of jobs that fall under this category. Grouping tasks promotes more effortless concentration by giving us fewer things to focus on at once.

Pay attention to one group of tasks at a time: Make sure a specific group of duties is completed correctly by working on it from beginning to end. By ensuring we do not have to come back to that work later, it can promote timeliness. Additionally, it can assist us in minimising the problems that may result from constant task switching.

My Experience

Last month I had my board exams. The test centre was close to me and I took it lightly that I needed to be completely ready and go to my centre on time with all the necessary documents. On the day of the Maths exam, I woke up late that day and saw that I still had time to reach the centre. There was a big crowd of parents and students outside the test centre.

As a result, I got even more later. Finally, I entered the examination hall 30 mins late. Unfortunately, I could not complete the question paper and had to leave almost 20 marks despite having good preparation. That day I understood the value of time. I understood that time and tide wait for none, and we should take time more seriously than we do. We cannot even waste a single second, and I learnt it the hard way that day.

Time Is Money Essay

500 words essay on “time is money”.

Time is the most precious thing in the world. Once you lose your time, it is gone forever. You can’t regain it. Success and failure in your life depend on how you utilise your precious time. For example, if you want to excel in your exam, you should wisely use your time. You will not pass, despite being clever, if you waste your time and don’t study.

Even at workplaces, people who make full use of time are much appreciated. They receive promotions, performance bonuses, etc. On the other hand, idle employees are not much appreciated and receive no promotions. People get famous by properly utilising time, such as professionals and merchants, who work hard to make a lot of money. They know the right way to make good use of their time.

People who understand the importance and meaning of the phrase “Time is Money” prosper in their lives and achieve a secure financial condition. People who ignore the term often see failure in their life.

Importance of Time

Time is valuable as we are provided with limited time in our entire life span. We can’t say what will happen in the next few hours of our life. It is flexible and ruthless because it doesn’t wait for anyone. So, always use your time wisely. We should not waste our time doing unnecessary things or activities. You should make every moment of your time meaningful.

Money has become the most significant factor in everyone’s life in the modern era. But you should understand that time is more precious than money. You can’t buy time, irrespective of how rich you are, but you can earn money with better use of time. Time is uncontrollable, so once it’s gone, it is gone forever.

Money can be earned later through effort and hard work. But, unfortunately, once the time is gone, nothing can bring back that hour of our life. Therefore, we should respect time more than anything on this planet.

While doing our daily routine and even in workplaces, we should manage time efficiently. By doing so, we can complete our tasks without any obstacles. Moreover, we can also learn the importance of time from Mother Nature. The arrival of different seasons, day and night changes, sunrise and sunset, and earth rotation demonstrate the correct use of time. All they offer is nothing but effective use of time to prevent chaos.

More Valuable than Money

Time is priceless and more essential than money. Time never comes back, but money can. You can earn money by proper utilisation of time. But you can’t bring back the time that has gone.

If you want to become successful in your life, learn to use time efficiently. Money can be earned with time, but you can not make money by wasting time. This statement clearly states that time is more precious than money.

Time is allotted to you, and you have all the right to use it, just like money. But, there is a vast difference between the two. If you spend more money, you can always recover it by doing more work, but this money will never help you bring back lost time. Once ruined, time goes on forever, and it cannot be withdrawn.

A patient fleeing to the hospital to get medical attention may know that time is much more valuable than money. He will probably pay any amount to arrive at the hospital on time. He knows that he can earn money once he saves his life.

Consider an entrepreneur who wants to be on time for his first big business deal. He will probably take the fastest travel mode and not keep the expenses in mind. This is because he knows that time is more important than money in this situation. At this moment, his first deal’s success, reputation, and future depend entirely on time but not on money.

Conclusion of “Time Is Money” Essay

It is hence proved that time is money. One can become wealthy and flourish in life with efficient time utilisation. On the other hand, a waste of time means a waste of energy. So, always respect time.

There is no doubt that time is the only real unit ever to exist. Everyone’s success and failure depend on how they spend their time and those who utilize their time wisely surely attain success. Time is ever dynamic and waits for no one, it runs at its speed, and we are expected to keep up with it.

Money is an economic resource introduced by humans to achieve value for an element that is equal to everyone, irrespective of any other factor. Before the concept of money came into being, people used the barter system to exchange goods. Still, it was a controversial procedure because the value of an element is debatable. Soon after that, minerals or particular resources were used to denote money. After much evolving now, we use coins, cash, and digital money issued by the government.

It was Benjamin Franklin who used the phrase’ time is money’ in his book ‘Advice to a young tradesman,’ which became so popular that there is barely anyone who doesn’t know this phrase. This phrase means that time should be spent wisely so that one can earn money, and if this time is wasted, then all the opportunities to make money are lost.

Today, the world has advanced in many ways, and people have learned to use their time to make a mark for themselves. Evidently, for such reasons, competition has risen among everyone in every field of work. Almost everyone is doing things to serve the purpose of their life. There is a saying that we are living on borrowed time because we are not in control of it, and this life can end at any moment without giving us a chance to bargain.

There are several examples of success and failure stories that will prove the metaphors’ meaning and application, like ‘time is money.’ Still, all those incidents will also make you realize that there is nothing more superior than time. And it is time which can bring you money, but you can never buy lost time with money again; therefore, time is priceless. In the world where everyone is running behind money and success, I think it is better to stop chasing those and run to keep up with time while using it strategically with a near-future goal.

Short Essay on Time is Money (200 Words) – Essay 1

The phrase “Time is Money” practically suits every person in society. Let us consider a few examples: A businessman getting late for an important client meeting better understands the worth of time. He knows that time is precious, and he might have to let go of the business deal if he loses time.

Similarly, a student who has the ambition of procuring a good-paying job after studies understands the value of time more than anything else. S/he knows that getting a decent remuneration will be complicated and impossible if they waste time and don’t study well.

Essay on Time is More Precious than Money (300 Words) – Essay 2

Introduction

We all agree that time is Money, and Money can only be generated by properly and efficiently utilizing our time. The statement equates time with Money, but it’s only half the truth. Some explanations prove that time is more valuable than Money. In this essay, we will make arguments in support of the statement “Time is More Precious than Money.”

Reasons for Time is More Precious than Money

The most valid argument supporting the statement “Time is More Precious than Money” is that Money, once lost, could be regained, but time, if lost, can never be recovered. The amount of Money one has fluctuates with time; you might be poor today, but tomorrow you may be rich, or vice versa.

On the other hand, time is an ever-progressing phenomenon, changing every second I write this line. If for some reason, I decided to stop writing for a couple of minutes or so, then no power in the world could help me go back into those lost minutes. More examples could establish the statement “time is More Precious than Money” as a fact.

Consider an affluent person who urgently needs medical care but cannot get it because he got stuck in a traffic jam. He is caught up in a situation where his whole monetary worth can’t save him the time he needs. Indeed in practical situations like these, time is more precious than Money.

Time is worth more than Money as Money is a commodity that could be lost and regained or vice versa, but time once lost, can’t be regained whatever Money you are willing to spend. Thus it is established that “Time is More Precious than Money.”

Essay on Time is More than Money (400 Words) – Essay 3

Time is always considered more valuable than Money since one can spend time to earn Money, but vice versa is not possible. Money can never add some extra moments in life. Money, if lost, can be earned again, but if time is lost, it could never be recovered unless one believes in the impossible concept of a time machine. Everyone gets a limited time, but only an intelligent person utilizes it fruitful and productive.

Expansion of Phrase “Time is more than money.”

The phrase’s literal meaning showcases the importance of time and how it is considered more valuable than Money. You can do more with a day than a day’s pay. The time spent with our friends, family, and close ones remains in our memories irrespective of whether we have Money. Time is more precious than Money because though a person is a billionaire, he can’t add extra days to his life.

Sometimes the time spent with someone is so priceless that it can’t be bought with Money. It takes time to earn Money, but Money can’t buy a single moment. Everyone has a limited time; one who values it becomes successful, and one who wastes it always complains about its shortage.

Time Vs. Money

Time never comes back once spent, but Money can be earned back once spent. Time availability remains the same for rich and poor, but Money is available to the rich but not the poor. Time cannot be stored, but Money can be stored for some time. Time is always limited and can’t be increased, but Money can be raised by earning more. Time is not constant and keeps on moving, whereas Money could remain constant for some time. Money’s value might decrease over time, but the value of time remains constant forever.

In the materialistic world, people consider Money the most important and valuable thing in life, but they forget the importance of time. Nowadays, people are sacrificing their family time by spending it more on their work, and in this way, they cannot spend quality time with their family. It is also said that people spend time earning Money but don’t get time to spend it. Proper time management always makes a person successful and respectable in society by making him more punctual and improving his quality of life.

‘Time is Money’ Short Story

One evening, when the father came home from the office, tired and a little late, the kid had already eaten his dinner. The boy suddenly asked his father – Dad, how much you earn in a day? Father was not very pleased with the question and replied – that’s none of your business! Why do you want to know? But the kid insisted, saying he just wanted to know out of curiosity. After some reluctance, the father told him he earns thousand rupees daily. Next, the kid asked his father if he could lend him 100 Rupees. This made the father furious, who ordered the kid to go to his room and sleep. Poor child, having no clue what went wrong, retrieved the room and went to bed.

The father sat wondering what could have prompted the child to ask such a question regarding his earnings. However, as time passed, his anger subsided, and he went to the room with his son, probably thinking he had overreacted. When the father reached into the kid’s room, the latter was still awake. Apologizing for getting angry, the father took out a 100 Rupee note from his pocket and gave it to the kid.

Happy with joy, the child thanked his father, proceeded to his table drawer, took out the Money in the drawer, and started counting it. Once again, the father was surprised and a little angry. He asked where you got all the Money from. Why did you ask for more if you already had enough? The son’s reply had his father in tears. What Is The Meaning Of The Phrase “Time Is Money”?

Time is a precious aspect of life as it never waits for anyone, and no one can ever recover lost time. The time is money is a phrase Benjamin Franklin used in his essay, where he compared time to money. Here, to emphasise its importance, time is compared to a valuable thing, like money.

Reasons Why Time Is More Important Than Money

Another reason is that no one can ever regain that lost time even by paying lots of money. But the lost money can be recovered by proper utilisation of time. A solid example of this scenario is a business person taking an expensive flight to attend a business deal. Here, this person is aware of the value of time and knows that the coming business deal may mint more money for him and compensate for this expensive flight ticket. One needs to understand time cannot be stored, but money can be.

How One Should Value Time?

A person trying to be successful is aware of the value of time and constantly tries to improve themselves by focusing on what matters the most in life. They never waste their time on useless things. “There is not a single moment in life that we can afford to lose.”

Time is the most significant factor in life. Understanding its value and keeping pace with it is very important. Moving ahead with time is a sign of progress and statics is death. Each and every fraction of time is important. Time management means managing time effectively and utilizing it to the fullest possible extent.

Time keeps on running like a cartwheel. We cannot store it and it is non-replaceable. It does not wait for anybody. We cannot take back our words, we cannot stick back a plucked flower, similarly, time once gone cannot be reversed. If one fails to recognize the value of the time he has to face serious consequences. Every second of life is important, especially in a student’s life. If students spend their time only playing or doing unnecessary things, they may fail in examinations and will not be able to achieve anything in the future.

One who makes proper utilization of time can succeed in life. Such a person definitely contributes to the progress of the country . One who changes with time prospers and leads a happy life. A person can prove his or her identity only by making proper utilization of time. This is the main factor needed for a country to progress. One can shape one’s life by doing things in time. This makes difficult things easy.

Thus it is very important to divide time for every important thing. It is the only way to succeed. Time is money, do not waste it.

Sample Answer

I completely agree with the famous phrase written by Benjamin Franklin that ‘Time is Money’. Time is indeed precious and priceless. We require time to earn money but money cannot buy the time which is lost. We all get limited amount of time in our lives. Therefore, it depends on us whether we utilise our time productively or just waste it aimlessly.

This proverb signifies that time outweighs money. As we know, time is moving ahead continuously. Present becomes past with a blink of an eye. It means that we must respect time more than anything else. The actions we take at the right time defines our achievements in life. Opportunities in life must be identified and harnessed timely to experience an event of great grandeur. Understanding the true value of time is essential to taste success in life. Life is uncertain and the amount of time we get in life is predefined and limited. I believe, a moment gone never comes back, it is lost forever. Therefore, we shouldn’t be careless with our time.

Therefore, time management is an indispensable skill to increase efficiency and effectiveness. In order to manage our time, we must have certain goals to attain. Every individual should prepare and follow a schedule of planned activities to accomplish aforesaid target. In this way we can make our actions goal-oriented and less time consuming. The act of time management symbolises the value of time one holds in one’s life.

To conclude, like money, time can neither be earned nor saved for the future use. Time and life are completely inseparable. We have no control on time but we can control our actions. By taking right actions at right time, we can make our life more satisfactory .People who waste their time in wandering aimlessly, tend to suffer. We can either make the best use of the time or just repent afterwards.

Essay 1 (400 words).

“Time is money” means by using time in an efficient manner we can get money and by wasting it we can lose the opportunity of earning money. The destiny of a person is not predictable and we never know that when a good opportunity comes to us, it just depends on us how we use time. A single moment is enough to be the reason of getting heights of success or a big fall down in life. Thus we should always prepare for grabbing the opportunity which comes to us at any stage of life. Time is precious and never waits for anyone whether rich or poor and king or beggar.

Time has so much power that it can change a human’s life completely. It can convert a successful or powerful rich person into a helpless poor man and a poor man into a rich person. It only depends on you whether you understand the value of time or take it for granted.

The importance and value of time are different for all. A student uses it for taking knowledge, a working man to earn money and a house lady to do her house works by keeping the importance of time in mind.

In today’s world, everyone is just running behind money, fame, and success. Competition has arisen in all fields that have influenced all age groups of people and children. Thus, if we want our children to get succeed in the future life, we should prepare them since their childhood in such a manner that they understand the value of time and can be able to take benefit from their important time by doing good things in life.

Since the time of their wake up in the morning till the sleeping in the night, every single activity should be done at a proper pre-decided time and this timetable should be followed through the entire life.

The best example of understanding the importance and value of time is that when we lose money we can get it back by using time but if time is lost we cannot get it back by using money or any other thing.

In conclusion, we can just say that time is money and time is priceless, by using it in a proper manner no one can defeat us at any stage of life. Neither we can buy it nor we can sell it; we just can use it every single moment.

Essay 2 (600 words)

Introduction:

“Time is money” is a famous phrase or quote. It was first used by the great author “Benjamin Franklin” in historical time in his famous book “Advice to a Young Tradesman”, which has become the inspiration of life for many people. Though this common phrase of “Time is Money” sounds very simple and ordinary line but it means a lot. These two words consist of the right way of better living and those who are following it can achieve a lot during their life.

Time never waits for anyone and to live with and according to time is the key to success for all. Time is as equivalent to money but money is not comparable by time as “we can earn money by using time but using money we cannot earn time” this is the truth of life and we cannot ignore it. Also, we can say that when we lose money we can get it back but if we lose time no one can get it back for us.

A famous and common phrase connects and relates with the phrase “Time is Money” that is “Time and Tide waits for none” which means passed time never comes back for anyone. We should understand and respect the value of time, by using our precious time we can get and touch the heights of success.

We all should teach our children about the importance of time since their childhood and help them in making their routine by keeping the importance of time in mind. All the activities starting in the morning till the bedtime in the night should be pre-decided and according to the time for the betterment of our and our children’s life.

Importance of Time:

The importance of time differs for all ages of people. Once a kid is grown up, his or her childhood never comes back; similarly, a student always tries his/her best throughout the year for getting good marks or grades just because they know the importance of time. In the same manner for different purposes, people just use their precious time by doing their best efforts to fulfilling their different kinds of wish, as they know that time will not wait for them.

A person gets life for once only and this is the biggest fact of the universe. It only depends on us that how we use it, whether we get lots of achievement during our life or just spoil it by wasting our precious time. Intelligent people are those who manage and live according to the time by using each and every moment of their precious life and did some great works which remind us about those people.

The famous story of Ant and Grasshopper is a good example of this phrase “Time is Money”. In this story, an ant spent it’s all-time of the summer season in collecting food for the season of winter and Grasshopper was happy with the food that he had for that time only. When winter came and had plenty of food in storage as she was much aware of the importance of time. Whereas grasshopper had nothing to eat in the winter season as he was happy in relaxing and wasting his time. Thus, we all should be like an ant in order to face different circumstances in life.

Time is like money. If we use it well, we can do many good things, just like when we spend money wisely, we can buy what we need. When we waste time, it’s gone forever, just like when we waste money, we don’t have it anymore. We should be careful with our time, like we are careful with our money. Time is like money. Imagine you have a piggy bank, but instead of filling it with coins, you fill it with minutes and hours. Just as you can spend money to buy toys or candy, you use time to do things like play, do your homework, or help around the house. If you waste your money on things you don’t need, you won’t have enough left for the things you really want. It’s the same with time. The phrase “Time is Money” denotes a relationship between time and money i.e. to earn money you have to properly utilize the time you have. It is only when you spend your time in fruitful activities that you will prosper and wasting time, doing nothing will one day drain your finances.

The phrase “Time is Money” practically suits every person in the society. Let us consider a few examples- A businessman who is getting late for an important client meeting, better understands the worth of time. He knows that time is precious and if he loses time than he might have to let go the business deal.

Similarly, a student who has the ambition of procuring a good paying job after studies understands the value of time more than anything else. S/he knows that if they waste time and didn’t study well, then getting a decent remuneration will not only be difficult, but also impossible.

Time is money for every hard working worker, professional, businessman, student etc. A businessman decides how to use his time on his own, while an employee gives his/her time to the employer in order to get paid. We all are free to spend our time the way we want, but this is also true that, wasted time doesn’t generate any money.

Essay on Time is More Precious than Money (300 Words) – Essay 2

Introduction

We all agree to the fact that time is money and money can only be generated by properly and efficiently utilizing our time. The statement equates time with money, but it’s only half the truth. In fact there are some explanations which prove that time is more valuable than money. In this essay we will make arguments in support of the statement “Time is More Precious than Money”.

Reasons for Time is More Precious than Money

The most valid argument in the support of the statement “Time is More Precious than Money” is – money once lost could be regained, but time if lost can never be recovered. The amount of money one has fluctuates with time, that is, you might be poor today but tomorrow you may be rich, or vice versa.

Time, on the other hand is an ever progressing phenomenon, changing every second, as I am writing this line. If for some reason I decide to stop writing for a couple of minutes or so, then no power in the world could help me go back into those lost minutes. There could be more examples that establish the statement “time is More Precious than Money” as an established fact.

Consider an affluent person who is in an urgent need of medical care, but is unable to get it as he got stuck in a traffic jam. He is caught up in a situation where his whole monetary worth can’t save him the time that he needs. Indeed in practical situations like these, it is proved beyond doubt that time is more precious than money.

Time is worth more than money as money is a commodity which could be lost and regained or vice versa, but time once lost can’t be regained whatever money you are willing to spend. Thus it is established that “Time is More Precious than Money”.

Essay on Time is More than Money (400 Words) – Essay 3

Time is always considered as more valuable than money since one can spend time to earn money but the vice versa is not possible. Money can never add some extra moments in life. Money if lost can be earned again but if time is lost it could never be recovered unless one believes in the impossible concept of time machine. Everyone gets a limited time but only an intelligent person utilizes it in a very fruitful and productive way.

Expansion of Phrase “Time is more than Money”

The literal meaning of the phrase showcases the importance of time and how it is considered as more valuable than money. You can do more with a day’s time than a day’s pay. The time spent with our friends, family and close ones remains in our memories irrespective whether we have money or not. Time is more precious than money because though a person is billionaire he can’t add extra days to his life.

Sometimes the time spent with someone is so priceless that it can’t be bought with money. It takes time to earn money but money can’t buy a single moment. Everyone has a limited time and one who values it becomes successful and one who wastes it always complains about its shortage.

Time vs Money

Time never comes back once spent but money once spent could be earned back. The availability of time remains same for rich and poor but the money is available to rich but not poor. Time cannot be stored but money can be stored for some time. Time is always limited and can’t be increased but money can be increased by earning it more. Time is not constant and keeps on moving whereas money could remain constant for some time. The value of money might decrease over a period of time but value of time remains constant forever.

In the materialistic world, people consider money as the most important and valuable thing in life but they forget the importance of time. Nowadays, people are sacrificing their family time by spending it more on their work and in this way they are not able to spend quality time with their family. It is also said that people spend time in earning money but finally don’t get time to spend that money. Proper time management always makes a person successful and respectable in the society by making him more punctual and improving his quality of life.

Essay on Time is Important than Money (500 Words) – Essay 4

Time is very important than money, if someone wastes time s/he will lose money for sure. Moreover, time in a way is more precious than money as it cannot be purchased by money. The time that is lost, no amount of money in the world can help you bring it back into your life.

Reason for Time is Important than Money

Time is more valuable than money, is an established fact and the phrase today is used and acknowledged by millions. There could be thousands of arguments in support of the statement. Time once lost can never be earned back is a truth. You can use your time to make money, but you can’t buy money with time. No matter how much money you are willing to spend, it will not be possible to get back the time that is already gone.

Ever wonder what makes the difference between success and failures. Everyone, from a layman to a high ranking professional has the same 24 hours at his/her disposal. It is how they have used those 24 hours that has made all the difference in their lives. A successful person always uses his/her time efficiently to earn money and progress. It is through time that money is earned and you can’t earn a penny by simply wasting the time.  This statement itself establishes that time is more valuable than money.

Time is something that is given to you and you have all the rights to use it the way you want, just like money. But, there is a difference – if you lose or spend some of your money, you can always regain it by working a little more. On the other hand, if you lose your time, then no amount of money in the world can help you but it back. Time once wasted is gone forever and can’t be recovered.

A patient who is rushing to the hospital to get medical attention probably knows that time is much more valuable than money. He would probably pay any amount to get to the hospital in time; because, he knows that he could earn money once he is able to save his own life.

Consider an entrepreneur who wants to be on time for his/her first big business deal. He would probably take the fastest mode of travel, not minding the expenses. Why? Because he knows that in this situation, time is much more important than money. The success of his first deal, his reputation and his future in this moment depends entirely on time but not on money.

Time is absolutely important than money, and almost everyone must have experienced the truth of the phrase at some point of time in his/her life. Whether one agrees or not, but it is a well established and proven fact that time is indeed more valuable than money.

Long Essay on Time is Money – Meaning, Story, Explanation (600 Words) – Essay 5

The statement “Time is Money”, is an equating statement, implying that time is equivalent to money. The statement establishes a direct proportionality between the two, that is, if you lose/waste time you will lose money and if you use time you will gain money. It is a proverb which has been widely used in our everyday lives. In the following essay we will go through the meaning of the phrase “Time is Money”; read a short story supporting the phrase; go through the explanation of the phrase and finally concluding the essay with a conclusion.

Meaning of ‘Time is Money’

The phrase “Time is Money” is a very simple phrase with a clear meaning. The statement simply puts time in equal terms with money that is if I waste my time sitting at home then I will gain no money. To earn the money that we want, we have to move out of our homes to make use of time that we have. It is only by effectively utilizing our time that we will be able to progress financially in life.

‘Time is Money’ Short Story

I am going to present an interesting and equally emotional story based on the phrase “Time is Money”. Once there lived a little boy in a small town, with his parents. His father worked hard in a factory to sustain their needs.

One evening, when the father came home from office, tired and as usual a little late, for the kid had already eaten his dinner. The boy suddenly put up a question to his father – Dad how much do you earn in a day? Father was not very pleased with the question and replied with – that’s none of your business! Why do you want to know? But the kid insisted saying that he just wanted to know out of curiosity. After some reluctance, the father told him that he earns thousand rupees in a day.  Next, the kid asked his father if he could lend him 100 Rupees. This made the father furious who ordered the kid to go to his room and sleep. Poor child, having no clue of what went wrong, retrieved to the room and went to bed.

The father sat wondering on what could have prompted the child to ask such a question, regarding his earning. However, as the time passed his anger subsided and he went to the room of his son, probably thinking that he had overreacted. When the father reached in the kid’s room, latter was still awake. Apologizing for getting angry, father took out a 100 Rupee note from his pocket and gave it to the kid.

Happy with joy, the child thanked his father and proceeded to his table drawer, took out the money that was already lying in the drawer and started counting it. Once again the father was surprised and a little angry. He asked where you got all the money from. Why did you ask for more if you already had enough? The son’s reply had father in tears. The kid said, father I had collected Rs 900 over a long time, but today when you gave me Rs 100, that made my savings equal to your one day’s earning. So, may I request you to take all this money and spend a day with me, tomorrow. The man was crushed. He was literally in tears and hugged his son as never before, promising him that tomorrow he will be on leave.

Time is Money – Explanation

“Time is Money” is a proverb indicating the relationship between time and money. It suggests that when in order to gain financial growth one has to make use of the time at his/her disposal. A doctor who sits in his clinic will generate more income by sitting a little longer; a taxi driver will earn more money as s/he spends more time driving; a supplier who supplies goods on or before time, can’t afford to waste time, as it would mean lesser profits.

“Time is Money” is a famous proverb and an undisputable truth. How much money you have is decided by how efficiently you make use of your time.

Time is Money How do we get this adage of “time is money?” Some say that it came about in 1748 when Benjamin Franklin actually coined the term, “Time is money” when giving advice to a young tradesman (Pausch). Why did this concept of time being worth money come in to our culture? Time evolved into being worth money because it cost money to allocate time to activities other than work. Either you work and get paid or you partake in another activity and forgo your distribution of capital. Think of the common phrase “let’s spend some time together.” Why do we use the term “spend” when we talk about time? The idea stems from very commonsensical ideas. For example, if someone earns $60,000 a year, their allocation will work out as …show more content…

In which case, the decision to spend time with their family or partaking in a rewarding activity has just cost them $3.65. This might be a cost that some people are willing to pay. However, let’s change the scenario. Assume our subject makes $600,000; now that same time will cost them $261.46. Now, when determining the cost of participating in an activity, each person must evaluate their economic situation. The less someone makes, the less it costs them to partake in activities outside of work. However, this seems counter-intuitive. The lower a person’s income, the more they will need to work to survive. If someone makes only $10,000 a year, they bring home only $0.09 a minute. It takes an incredible amount of $0.09 minutes to pay the bills for someone making $10,000 vs. someone making $600,000 a year and bringing home $5.21 a minute. This concept is nothing new. Farmers were first given a day wage and had to work from dawn until dusk. People, realizing that working a 12 – 16 hour day depending on the time of year for one price, started negotiating for a maximum number of hours a week that they had to work for a given pay scale. This has since been negotiated down to hours a day that had to be worked. This gave rise to the equation that was used earlier to calculate the cost-per-minute of an individual to determine how much time a person is

David Thoreau Paradox

Humans have been using the measurement of time to dictate their day since the early eras of ancient civilizations with sundial then evolving into the mechanical clocks we use today. For thousands of years with time measurement tools, humans have depended on a strict schedule to determine what to do to use up the time they have. In today’s modern world, adult humans use their time to contribute to society by working nine to five jobs and young adults spending their childhood in a classroom. In Henry David Thoreau’s book, Walden; Life in the Woods, Thoreau discusses the concept of time. In Thoreau’s excerpt “Economy,” he offers the paradox whether humans live off borrowed time or stolen time from their employers. He explains in a rhetorical statement that by reading his own book would be “robbing your creditors of an hour,” implying that the human civilization has been putting their work in front of their own self-interests in hope of success and money. Although Thoreau wrote the paradox as a brief commentary for the money driven human civilization, this paradox acts as a metaphor towards Thoreau’s view on the use of time for humanity.

In E.P. Thompson’s essay “Time, Work-Discipline, and Industrial Capitalism”, he argues how the rise of standardized time, which coincided with employed labor and capitalism, changed how people view time from how “time passes” to “time spent”. Time became a commodity in which it could be bought and sold. Time that was not spent “properly” was considered wasted, which Thompson calls time-thrift, which preindustrial societies were not very preoccupied with in comparison. Thompson explores this transition of the sense of time in relationship to the Industrial Revolution, benefits and disadvantages to the new time-discipline, and a possible mixture of the old and new time-disciplines in the future.

Batia mentions that lower income directly affects children's health and development, but it also affects the quality of parental and other caregiver relationships children receive. Parents who are stressed about their income, may be working at multiple jobs to meet ends. They understandably may have less patience and time to spend with their children. They may not read or communicate with them as often, resulting in poorer language skills. With often less options lower income families settle in low income neighborhoods and have fewer resources for healthy living. Time is the only dimension in which we all live our lives, and it affects everything that we do, from a flower's growing cycle to the destruction of empires. Time is so important, in fact, that if you did not have any, you could not do anything at all. There are many things that we can do with our time: We can spend it on leisure activities, such as sleeping, watching TV, reading or going for a walk; on work or study; on raising a family; or on helping others. No matter what we choose to do, it is important that we manage our time and make the most of it. Time is a valuable thing when we are in school.

A flower can be planted anytime during the year, but if you want it to grow into a beautiful plant with colourful petals, then you must provide it with enough sunlight, water, and soil. You cannot tell time to wait for your instructions; thus, you must use time in the most efficient way possible to get things done. It is the same with our lives. We have a limited amount of time on this earth, and we need to spend it wisely if we want to accomplish our goals and dreams. There are many ways that we can misuse our time. One of the most common is by procrastinating. Procrastination is the act of putting off action until a later time when it could have been done much more efficiently if you had just done it in the first place.

Time has an Effect Everywhere in Life

Your use of time reflects your priorities. It shows what is important to you. For example, if you are always late for meetings or appointments, then people may assume that you do not value them or their time. However, if you are usually well prepared and arrive early for meetings, then your colleagues will know that they can rely on you to get things done in a timely manner. Time is very much crucial to every person in the world. You have wasted time in the past, so do not get frustrated if you are not able to manage your time perfectly. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and use that knowledge to help you become more efficient with your time in the future!

Time is Valuable

Time management can be defined as "the process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time allocated to the various activities in one's life." It is a skill that can be acquired through training and practice. In order to manage your time effectively, you must know how you spend your time now. Record how much time you spend on each activity during a week, then review what you have recorded. Identify the important tasks and the ones that do not serve any real purpose. Useless activities can be eliminated, and important tasks can be rearranged in a more efficient schedule. The most effective time management techniques include: planning your day the night before, setting priorities, delegating responsibilities, using a planner or calendar, working on one task at a time, utilizing time-saving tools and strategies, and taking short breaks. If we have good habits and good strategies and we follow them, we will get the most out of time. Time management has a great impact on our lives. It can make us more productive every day and help us achieve our goals in life. So take control of your time; do not let it control you! The value of time is something that everyone understands. Time is a precious commodity that we all have an equal amount of, and it is something that should not be wasted. It is interesting to think about how time affects our lives in so many ways. Time is the one thing that we all have in common, but, as a society, we have made very little use of that fact. We have divided up the time that we have into minutes and seconds to the point where time is now our enemy. We are always in a hurry, always chasing after something that we believe will make us happy. And yet, there is nothing that we can do to stop time from passing by.

Importance of Time

Time does not wait for anyone. Whether you like it or not, the fact is time will never stop. It will keep going on. This is an old belief, but it still holds true. Time gives you only one chance, and you have to make the best of it. A moment lost is lost forever. You cannot go back and reverse time.

Time is ever-changing, and change is the law of nature. Nothing is independent of time and change. Life is short, and tasks to accomplish are vast and challenging. We should realize this fact and not waste any minute. Every second and every opportunity should be used efficiently and meaningfully.

Time is money? No, time is far more valuable. Here’s how to spend money to optimize your time

time is money

  • People often say, “Time is money,” but what the aphorism misses is that time is by far the more precious resource.
  • A money-centric mindset can be detrimental to your happiness compared to a time-valuing one.
  • To be more “time-affluent,” clarify your core values and use your money to facilitate the pursuits and experiences that support them.

Four thousand weeks is the average lifespan of a person living in the modern world. With exercise and healthy living , you may push that number out a couple of months. Then again a disease or accident may just as easily cut it short. Give or take, 4,000 weeks is all the time you have to build the life you want.

Admittedly, such framing is stark, but it’s something we all understand on a gut level: Our time is limited, and that makes it the most precious resource we have. Yet when it comes to how we use our time , it’s often in service of money.

We spend more hours on paid work per day than any other activity except sleep — enough to subtract more than 500 weeks from a person’s 4,000. And that figure only accounts for the earning of money. When you factor in budgeting, spending, investing, and fretting over finances, then money even devours time allotted for unpaid work or “leisure” activities.

All the while, our lives tick silently away.

Of course, money is necessary. You need it to buy food, pay bills, prepare for retirement, and perform a litany of other daily to-dos. However, research suggests that once your income grows in excess of a subsistence minimum, having a money-centric mindset can be detrimental to your subjective well-being.

To build happier, more meaningful lives, you shouldn’t disburse your time in the pursuit of money; you should use your money to better facilitate your time.

Time is more scarce than money

The money-centric mindset is perfectly encapsulated in the aphorism “time is money.” It’s the kind of advice that people hold in reverence not because it’s proven useful or accurate but because it has an air of extraordinary authority. This is especially true in the U.S., where it is often attributed to none other than Benjamin Franklin .

By one reading, time and money are equivalent. You spent the former to get the latter. By another, money is the best possible output of your time. Any time not spent earning money is time spent wasting it. And, of course, the entire field of finance is based on the “time value of money.”

But like so many tattered clichés, this one crumbles under scrutiny. Time and money aren’t equivalent resources. If we measure a resource’s value based on its scarcity, then time should be far more cherished because you can always increase your supply of money.

You earn more money by negotiating raises, earning promotions, or changing professions. You can sell products for more than their costs, save money to spend when it is more advantageous, or invest your money to create capital to draw from later. Heck, you can even steal it .

The same cannot be said for time. The time you spend in one pursuit can never be recovered and exchanged for something else. You cannot save your time for a more favorable season nor invest it to create more later. And while you can gain a lot from your time spent — education , health, and, yes, money — those things cannot be converted back into time.

Time is more valuable than money

For these reasons, Ashley Whillans, a behavioral scientist at Harvard Business School, argues that subjective well-being doesn’t follow from becoming rich. Instead, she recommends we aim to become “time-affluent.”

Research shows that people who value time over money enjoy greater subjective well-being. They also have better social connections, healthier family relationships, and greater job satisfaction.

And this isn’t because time-affluent people simply work less. According to one survey , they work about as much as their money-centric peers. The difference is that time-valuing participants favored “intrinsically rewarding activities,” meaning the time spent at work was more valuable to them than just a paycheck. “Nothing less than our health and happiness depends on reversing the innate notion that time is money,” Whillans writes at CNBC .

Nothing less than our health and happiness depends on reversing the innate notion that time is money. Ashley Whillans

How to spend your money

But if we all have the same 4,000 weeks, how does anyone become time-affluent? Time cannot be earned or gained. We all have the time we have. No more, no less.

The answer is that when it comes to time, it’s not how much you have that counts. It’s how you spend it. And here, money has an important role to play. By spending your money thoughtfully, you can draw more meaning and subjective well-being from the same number of hours and weeks.

“Most people don’t know the basic scientific facts about happiness — about what brings it and what sustains it — and so they don’t know how to use their money to acquire it,” psychologists Elizabeth Dunn, Daniel Gilbert, and Timothy Wilson write in their 2011 study published in The Journal of Consumer Psychology .

They add: “Money is an opportunity for happiness, but it is an opportunity that people routinely squander because the things they think will make them happy often don’t.”

According to their research, when people think about how money can support happiness, they typically make two fundamental errors. First, their predictions are almost always off, and second, they fail to realize that the context in which they are making these predictions is not the same as the actual experience.

For example, some people might think that a new 8K TV will bring them loads of happiness. But in reality, they end up spending more money on all the hook-ups and accessories. The setup and continued maintenance take more time than they think. And while they marvel at the picture quality for a while, they quickly acclimate to the supersized pixel count. After a month, it becomes yet another TV.

So while the purchase did bring happiness, it proves significantly less than imagined, especially compared to the costs in both time and money.

Because of this, the trio notes, buying things for yourself doesn’t make you as happy or for as long as we think it will. Instead, money facilitates happiness best when we use it to buy experiences, benefit others , or indulge in small pleasures. We should not waste time comparison shopping, and we should pay attention to how our purchases can ease — rather than add to — the stresses of our daily lives. In short, rather than being money-centric, you should look at how your money and time can support your values, build relationships, and help you do the things you find meaningful. When money doesn’t manage that, then no amount of it will move the needle in either happiness or life satisfaction .

A 1914 U.S. $100 bill featuring Benjamin Franklin in profile.

Time is money plus values

It’s one thing to say we should buy experiences and use our money to do the things we find meaningful. But it’s another to figure out which experiences and pursuits will meet that goal and shift our mindset to be more time-affluent.

According to Paula Pant, host of the Afford Anything podcast, the first step is recognizing that you cannot afford or do everything. As she said in an interview: “You just can’t have an endless series of ‘ands.’ You might not be able to have that thing and something else and something else and something else.”

After that, she recommends a first-principles exercise to clarify your core values and how they can shape your spending habits. Start by writing down the components of your life (such as family, health, career, self-worth, etc.) Then for each vertical, write down all the things you might want to accomplish by the end of your life. Remember, you have less than 4,000 weeks, so be realistic.

Then review your lists and circle the accomplishments that are most important to you. Pursuit of these should be where you focus your time, energy, and money.

“That’s a very difficult exercise because oftentimes in each of those verticals, it’s hard to pick just one, but then you’ll know what’s most important across that top horizontal span,” Pant said.

She also recommends reviewing the list to be mindful of the “core experiences” that matter to you. That’s because what looks like two values on our lists may in fact be one value. For example, you may have spending time with family and traveling the world as two separate goals. But if the people you want to travel the world with are your family, then both of those goals are connected to the core experience of relationship building.

Once you’ve budgeted enough money to pay the bills and feed the family, you should consider how you can save and spend your money to best facilitate the experiences and time you need to live those values in your life.

“And that doesn’t just apply to your money,” Pant notes. “That applies to your time, your focus, your energy, your attention — any limited resource. And life is the ultimate limited resource. So when you practice being better at managing your money, you practice being better at managing your life.”

To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race

President Biden standing behind a lectern with CNN’s name appearing repeatedly beyond him.

By The Editorial Board

The editorial board is a group of opinion journalists whose views are informed by expertise, research, debate and certain longstanding values . It is separate from the newsroom.

President Biden has repeatedly and rightfully described the stakes in this November’s presidential election as nothing less than the future of American democracy.

Donald Trump has proved himself to be a significant jeopardy to that democracy — an erratic and self-interested figure unworthy of the public trust. He systematically attempted to undermine the integrity of elections. His supporters have described, publicly, a 2025 agenda that would give him the power to carry out the most extreme of his promises and threats. If he is returned to office, he has vowed to be a different kind of president, unrestrained by the checks on power built into the American political system.

Mr. Biden has said that he is the candidate with the best chance of taking on this threat of tyranny and defeating it. His argument rests largely on the fact that he beat Mr. Trump in 2020. That is no longer a sufficient rationale for why Mr. Biden should be the Democratic nominee this year.

At Thursday’s debate, the president needed to convince the American public that he was equal to the formidable demands of the office he is seeking to hold for another term. Voters, however, cannot be expected to ignore what was instead plain to see: Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago.

The president appeared on Thursday night as the shadow of a great public servant. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term. He struggled to respond to Mr. Trump’s provocations. He struggled to hold Mr. Trump accountable for his lies, his failures and his chilling plans. More than once, he struggled to make it to the end of a sentence.

Mr. Biden has been an admirable president. Under his leadership, the nation has prospered and begun to address a range of long-term challenges, and the wounds ripped open by Mr. Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public service Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election.

The Remarkable Reign of Queen Elizabeth i

This essay is about Queen Elizabeth I and her transformative reign over England. It explores her rise to the throne amid religious and political turmoil, highlighting her establishment of the Elizabethan Religious Settlement to unify the nation. The essay details the cultural and artistic advancements of the Elizabethan Era, with figures like Shakespeare emerging under her patronage. It also covers the expansion of exploration and trade, leading to England’s maritime dominance. Elizabeth’s strategic foreign policy, including the defeat of the Spanish Armada, is discussed alongside the challenges she faced. The essay concludes by reflecting on her legacy as one of England’s greatest monarchs.

How it works

Queen Elizabeth I, known as the Virgin Queen, stands tall in English history as one of its most iconic figures. Her time ruling, called the Elizabethan Era, was a huge time of change for England, in culture, politics, and money. Born in 1533 to King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth’s early life was rough, all mixed up with her dad’s fighting and changes in religion. When she became queen in 1558, it was the start of a really big time for England and for the whole world.

Getting to be queen was no easy ride for Elizabeth. After her mom, Anne Boleyn, got killed, people said Elizabeth wasn’t the king’s real kid and kicked her out of being next in line. Her half-brother, Edward VI, and her half-sister, Mary I, took turns ruling before her. They had really different ideas about religion, and that shaped how Elizabeth ran things. Mary’s time as queen was tough, with lots of fighting between people who were for and against the new religion. When Elizabeth took over, she had to put the country back together.

One of the big things Elizabeth did was make rules about religion in 1559. It was called the Elizabethan Religious Settlement, and it tried to make peace between Catholics and Protestants in England. Her plan was to keep things calm by not going too far one way or the other, like her family before her. She called herself the “Supreme Governor” of the Church of England, showing she wanted everyone to work together, even if they had different ideas about God.

The time Elizabeth was queen was also a time of really great art and exploring new lands. The Elizabethan Era is known as a golden time for English culture, with tons of great books, plays, and music coming out. Writers like William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe made works that people still love today. Queen Elizabeth herself loved the arts and knew they were a big deal for making England strong and proud.

Exploring and trading got really big during Elizabeth’s time too. Guys like Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh went on big trips that made England a big deal on the sea. Drake went all the way around the world, and Raleigh went to places like America. These trips didn’t just bring money to England—they also made people see England as a powerful country.

Elizabeth was smart with how she dealt with other countries too. She didn’t marry, even though lots of guys wanted to marry her. Instead, she used talks about marriage to make deals with other countries and keep England safe. This way of dealing with other countries helped her keep a balance of power in Europe. Her best move was helping the Dutch fight against Spain, which made Spain less powerful.

The best win of Elizabeth’s time was when England beat Spain’s big navy, called the Spanish Armada, in 1588. Everyone thought Spain would win, but England’s navy, with help from bad weather and good plans, stopped Spain. This win made sure England stayed free and showed off its navy as the best in the world. People still think of Elizabeth standing strong in armor and talking to her soldiers at Tilbury as a sign of how strong and sure she was.

Even though she had a lot of wins, Elizabeth’s time as queen wasn’t easy. Later on, there were money problems with crops not growing well and prices going up. Plus, her decisions about Ireland and how she dealt with Mary, Queen of Scots, are still talked about and argued over today. And when she died in 1603, people didn’t know what would happen next for England.

Elizabeth’s almost 45 years as queen changed England a lot. It became a big deal in Europe with a strong sense of who it was. When James I became king after her, it was a change, but what Elizabeth started stayed strong.

Queen Elizabeth I is remembered for bringing England together, making great art, and making England proud. She knew how to deal with tough politics and how to make England a place where people could be creative and smart. Her story still matters today as a sign of how strong and smart leaders can change a country for the better.

Who is Julian Assange and what did he do?

Julian Assange is set to return to Australia as a free man, news of which has come as a surprise to many.

It appears to be the end of a saga that goes back 14 years to 2010.

Here's a recap of the situation to get you up to speed.

Look back over Wednesday's blog on Julian Assange's return to Australia.

Who is Julian Assange?

Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks, a whistleblower website renowned for exposing sensitive information.

He is an Australian citizen and was born in Townsville , Queensland, in 1971.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange speaks from the Ecuadorian Embassy on December 20, 2012 in London, England.

The 52-year-old has been a fixture in international headlines for more than a decade due to his plight to avoid retribution for his work, claiming asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London before being moved to a maximum-security prison.

Assange's case relates to accusations of spying on the United States government after he published a tranche of material detailing alleged war crimes committed by US armed forces during incursions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The thousands of documents were provided to WikiLeaks by whistleblower Chelsea Manning, who served as a US Army intelligence analyst in Iraq at the time.

Assange's imprisonment became highly publicised and re-ignited debate around protection of national security and freedom of the press.

What did Julian Assange do?

He was accused of sexual assault in Sweden and espionage offences in the US.

In 2010, he was arrested in the UK over the Swedish charges .

What did Sweden charge Assange with?

  • One count of unlawful coercion
  • Two counts of sexual molestation
  • One count of rape

Assange denied the allegations, claiming they were part of a plot to discredit him and extradite him to the US — whose military secrets he'd exposed on his WikiLeaks website.

In court documents filed in March 2018, the US Department of Justice charged him with conspiracy to commit computer intrusion ( but this was only announced in April 2019 ).

In May 2019, the department brought a further 17 offences against him under the US Espionage Act , bringing the total number of charges up to 18.

Here's the list of the full charges against Assange as posted by the US Department of Justice .

What did the US charge Assange with?

  • One count of Conspiracy to Receive National Defense Information
  • Seven counts of Obtaining National Defense Information
  • Nine counts of Disclosure of National Defense Information
  • One count of Conspiracy to Commit Computer Intrusion

The computer intrusion charge had a maximum jail term of five years.

Each of the other espionage charges had a maximum jail term of 10 years.

That means that Assange could have faced a maximum sentence of 175 years in prison .

Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks (Reuters: Valentin Flauraud)

What happened to the charges?

Swedish authorities dropped the sexual assault charges against Assange in November 2019.

At the time, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said the corroborating evidence had weakened considerably "due to the long period of time that has elapsed since the events in question".

As for the US espionage charges, Assange has entered a plea deal , admitting to just one of the 18 offences.

In a court document obtained by Reuters, it appears Assange will plead guilty to the Conspiracy to Receive National Defense Information charge.

A court document

The document says he'll be sentenced for the single charge in a court in Saipan, which is in the Northern Mariana Islands, on Wednesday at 9am AEST.

The Northern Mariana Islands are a US territory in the Pacific Ocean near Guam.

It's expected he'll be sentenced to 62 months' jail — which is a little longer than five years.

Why is Julian Assange a 'free man'?

Because the sentence is likely to take into account the time he spent in a UK prison awaiting the charges.

How long did Julian Assange spend at the embassy?

Seven years.

Assange was holed up at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, claiming asylum in 2012 .

A man speaking from a balcony, with a large media contingent below

He took refuge there until the Ecuadorian government withdrew his asylum in April 2019, when he was arrested and carried out of the London building by police in April 2019.

He was officially arrested for "failing to surrender to the court" back in 2012.

How long did Julian Assange spend in prison?

Five years .

Assange was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison for breaching his bail conditions relating to the Swedish sex assault charges.

That sentence expired in September 2019.

But he remained in London's maximum-security Belmarsh prison, where he awaited possible extradition to the US .

His team says he spent a total of 1,901 days behind bars.

Despite exhaustive diplomacy efforts and legal battles, he was repeatedly denied bail in the five-year period due to fears he would abscond upon release.

A motion — with bipartisan support — was passed through Australia's federal parliament calling on the US and UK to end his prosecution, but had no effect.

No particular reason has been provided by the parties lobbying for Assange's release as to why his decision to enter a guilty plea deal comes now.

Where is Julian Assange now?

His team says he's travelling back to Australia from the UK.

He's expected to appear in person in the Northern Mariana Islands courtroom on Wednesday morning.

What is WikiLeaks?

WikiLeaks is a media organisation that aims to publish censored or restricted material involving war, spying and corruption.

Assange launched it in 2006.

According to the site, it has published more than 10 million sensitive documents.

It hasn't published since 2021.

essay about time is money

New research on how to identify investments that produce delayed but real profits — not just those that produce short-term accounting profits.

In a well-functioning capital market, profits should be the sole criterion for firm survival; that is, firms reporting losses should disappear. Of late, however, loss-making firms are highly sought after by investors — often more than some profitable firms. Unicorns, or startups with valuations exceeding a billion dollars, are examples of such loss-making firms. What has changed over time? When and why did losses lose their meaning? The authors’ series of new research papers provide some answers, guiding managers to make the right investments: those that produce delayed but real profits — not just those that produce short-term accounting profits but decimate shareholder wealth in long run.

In 1979, psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky famously posited that losses loom larger than gains in human decision-making. For example, a dollar of loss affects our behavior more than a dollar of profits . Likewise, when a firm announces losses, its stock price declines more dramatically than it increases for the same dollar amount of profits. Investors abandon and lenders tend to stop financing loss-making firms , which then start restructuring their business lines and laying off employees. Some firms go even further, conducting M&A transactions without substance and “managing earnings” to report profits instead of a loss.

Postal vote chaos threatens marginal seats as ballots delivered late

A perfect storm of councils not printing enough ballot papers and Royal Mail not delivering them on time could cause electoral disruption

Postal ballots have not been delivered on time in a string of marginal seats, prompting warnings that the chaos could lead to results being challenged.

The Telegraph understands that the crisis has been caused by councils not printing enough ballot papers and Royal Mail not delivering them on time.

The surprise July election coincides with thousands jetting off for their summer holidays.

The election watchdog said holidaymakers had fuelled an unexpected surge in demand for postal votes, and that it would review the issue after the election.

Voters had to apply for a postal vote by 5pm on June 19 and were advised to immediately send them off.

However, thousands are still to receive their votes despite there being less than one week until the election on July 4, with at least 13 constituencies across the country affected.

Eight of these are marginal, and so postal votes will be more important in determining the result. Officials have said that the delayed deliveries could be grounds for candidates challenging the outcome.

One affected constituency is North West Essex, where Kemi Badenoch, the Business Secretary, is fighting to retain her seat.

No fewer than 2,600 postal votes were sent out late in the seat by Uttlesford District Council following “human error”.

Peter Holt, its chief executive, has been forced to apologise and said candidates could challenge a close result on election night because of the delay.

“It would be for candidates or voters to determine whether to challenge the result through the usual process,” he added.

The council has resorted to sending staff to hand deliver ballot papers.

A number of the councils responsible for running the election in the affected constituencies said that they were not to blame because they had dispatched all postal ballots on time.

However, Royal Mail sources said that the issue was not with them and that in some constituencies, postal ballots were still being dispatched by councils on Friday.

In Scotland, at least six constituencies have seen delays.

John Swinney, Scotland’s First Minister, has warned that the delays could “disenfranchise” voters north of the border , more than a quarter of whom have applied for a ballot to be delivered to them.

The Scottish school holidays fall earlier than in the rest of the United Kingdom.

John Swinney, Scotland's First Minister

Malcolm Burr, the convener of the Electoral Management Board for Scotland, called for a “major review” of the postal vote system after the election.

“There have been and remain issues with both suppliers and with Royal Mail across Scotland which the electoral community are dealing with as best we can,” he said.

The contests in Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Mid Fife, North East Fife and Dunfermline and Dollar are all run by Fife Council, who said there had been “national issues with the printing and delivery of some postal votes”.

Niki Hutchison, 45, who lives in Edinburgh East and Musselburgh with her husband and two children, said that none of the members of her household who had applied had yet had their postal votes arrive.

Her parents, who live in Edinburgh West, have also not received their votes.

“There are a lot of things that don’t seem to be working in the UK right now, so this just feels like an example of another one,” Mrs Hutchison said.

Edinburgh City Council said it had dispatched all postal votes “as soon as the legal timeframe allowed” and that an emergency facility has been opened at the city chambers to allow voters to pick up their ballots, ahead of the Scottish school holidays, which begin next week.

In Fife, the council will be open on Saturday for voters to collect their ballot and fill it out in a private booth, enabling them to cast it immediately.

‘Surprise’ of the election

In east London’s Stratford and Bow constituency, voter Emily Hewertson said that Tower Hamlets Council had blamed the “surprise” of the election for her postal vote not arriving before Tuesday, when she left the country on holiday.

“I don’t really agree as everyone knew an election was due at some point this year and their own website said it would arrive 10 days before polling day and other councils have managed to get theirs out on time, including my parents,” she said.

“I did my part by meeting the deadline to apply for a postal vote, so it’s a shame they couldn’t do theirs and now I’m being denied my right to have a say which is wholly undemocratic.”

Tower Hamlets Council has been approached for comment.

Sir Iain Duncan Smith, who is standing for re-election in Chingford and Woodford Green, said that his prospective seat had also been affected and that both Royal Mail and local councils needed to take action.

“We are demanding they act immediately,” he said.

Other seats where postal voters have not received ballots include Dulwich and West Norwood, Oxford East, Glastonbury and Somerton, and Rutland and Stamford.

Voters in Glastonbury and Somerton reported being sent to a library in Frome to pick up their ballot, rather than it being sent to them in the post.

A Somerset Council spokesman said that voters who had not received their postal ballot by Friday could apply for a replacement to be issued.

Oxford City Council and Southwark Council said they had dispatched their ballot papers on time and they were not responsible for the delays.

The Conservatives are the party most likely to lose votes because of the delays, Prof Sir John Curtice, Britain’s most eminent polling expert, suggested.

Sir John Curtice, Britain's leading psephologist

“I’m tempted to suggest that people who can afford to go abroad on holiday may be slightly more likely to vote Conservative,” he said.

“It was a Conservative Government [decision] to hold an election in the beginning of July so they have not got anyone to blame but themselves.”

But senior Scottish Tory insiders said the delays primarily affected new postal voters , who are more likely to be younger voters and therefore less likely to be Conservatives.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We have a specialist elections team that plans every aspect of the elections delivery programmes and works closely with local authorities to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

“Where concerns have been raised, such as in Scotland, we have investigated and confirmed all votes are being delivered as soon as they enter our network.”

A spokesman for the Electoral Commission said that they reconsigned the pressures on the postal voting system as a result of the holiday season.

They continued: “Following the election, we will undertake research with voters and electoral administrators to understand their experiences at this poll. The administration of postal voting is one of the areas we will look at.”

A spokesman for Rutland County Council said: “All postal votes for the Rutland and Stamford Constituency were issued to Royal Mail on time in two batches (one batch issued on 20th June and the other on 24th June).

“We are aware that some constituents are yet to receive their postal ballot papers from Royal Mail and are taking steps to make sure they can obtain replacement postal ballots if needed.”

Waltham Forest London Borough Council has been approached for comment.
