27 Feb 18 Best Youtube Movie Channels – You Must See Number 1!

Its Oscar time and in celebration of the 88 th Academy Awards this weekend we have been all things movies this past week. I had a review of Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe (along with our first ever Youtube video ) and then an interview with movie producer Adi Shankar for you over the past week. Now I have compiled a list post of the 18 Best Youtube Movie Channels.

I am a big follower of Youtube channels and also the movie industry. It’s a creative art that requires a lot of different elements such as design, photography, business, music and of course, filmmaking. I’ve always been a fan of the movie industry as a whole and an admirer of the elements involved individually in the creation process.

As time has gone on I’ve found myself digesting movie news and reviews in a digital video format instead of print. I still love reading a long-form feature in a print format but when I’m looking for a review or the latest news in the industry then I now turn to Youtube.

I have compiled together a list of the best movie Youtubers that provide reviews, critics, news or information on the industry. No moviemakers are included in this list, just channels that can help you brush off on your movie knowledge in time for the Oscars.

Before we get started with this interview I highly recommended you grab a copy of our first ever print magazine. Volume 1 of 99 Percent Lifestyle has a limited print run and features a lot of movie related articles such as a behind the scenes look at the Martian, an interview with producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, Lone Survivor, The Grey) and a behind the scenes look at indie filmmaking. Read all about the first magazine here .

The Wasp Review: This Dark, Jaw-Dropping Psychological Thriller Is The Wildest Film I've Seen All Year

Why the blue wizards don't help fight sauron during lord of the rings, "we’d done a lot of work": woody harrelson recalls trying to rewrite a famous no country for old men scene.

With Wakanda Forever closing off Phase Four on November 11, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing for an introduction to its fifth phase, and many fans are excited to see what the franchise has to offer. Yet, many are also questioning how all these new Phase 4 characters connect to each other, with the multiverse looming as the main arc. After all, most Marvel movies are now somewhat disconnected.

Thankfully, there is a vast host of YouTube reviewers and analysts who are dedicated to explaining the intricacies of movies and anything fans might have missed. Most of these YouTube video essays are made by some key YouTubers who do an excellent job getting fans caught up in the worlds of Hollywood.

YourMovieSucksDOTorg

The Youtube Channel of YourMovieSucksDOTorg

Some reviewers do a great job of taking apart popular movies to show why they're excellent. The film YouTuber YourMovieSucksDOTorg is best at showcasing just why fans may dislike certain movies. While that might be inherently more negative, it can still be enjoyable.

"His Toy Story 3 review blew my mind. I knew I hated it but he kind of showed me why," says a now-deleted Reddit user. While he addresses both beloved and critically panned movies, the panned movies tend to be the videos that draw the most love from audiences. Sometimes fans just need to know why a plot feels weak or repetitive.

Possum Reviews

The Youtube Channel of Possum Reviews

Another YouTuber who tends to focus on movies that received overwhelmingly poor receptions, Possum Reviews has grown a large fanbase by putting his attention on reviewing "garbage" movies, as his possum icon indicates. "I really love watching Possum Reviews even though his reviews of blatantly bad movies are really cynical," says Redditor Owijs .

Most of his reviews tend to be funny, which helps to keep the content engaging even when the actual film he reviews is appallingly bad. While he sometimes addresses beloved movies, it's the mediocre ones that draw the most eyes.

The Youtube Channel of Sideways

While most moviegoers don't think about soundtracks, the YouTuber Sideways goes into detail on just how the best soundtracks in movies interact with each film and create an environment. Tackling both musical and nonmusical movies, the channel does an extraordinary job of teaching fans about sound in films.

"Genuinely such interesting analysis of music in shows/movies from a very funny, intelligent guy who always sounds like he’s having the best time talking about whatever he’s talking about," states Reddit user ameboleyn . His excitement, even when addressing movies like Cats , is palpable and keeps viewers as engaged as he is.

Red Letter Media

The Youtube Channel of RedLetterMedia

A YouTube channel focused on friends reviewing movies that are both good and bad, RedLetterMedia has picked up many fans through the years, and for good reason. With the channel often known for its dry humor, Redditor TylerKnowy described it as "a mix of comedy and insight."

The channel has different shows with each addressing several topics. From Re:View 's more positive view of film to the often maligning Half in the Bag , the channel has something for everyone — as long as everyone likes their sense of humor. Of course, given that they often tackle movies that divide critics and audiences , they can be contentious.

The Youtube Channel of Film Joy

With videos ranging from 10 minutes to over an hour long, the YouTube channel FilmJoy has things for everyone to enjoy. Of course, while the channel offers several shows, most of the channel's supporters tend to find themselves more engaged by the Movies with Mikey show.

"Intelligent, funny and extremely heartfelt. His whole approach is to discuss beloved films and why they're so special," says Reddit user johnspost . Instead of focusing on cynicism and encouraging fans to dislike certain movies, it brings about positivity, which is somewhat rare among YouTubers.

This Guy Edits

The Youtube Channel of This Guy Edits

While many film critics focus on acting, character development, plot, or setting, the YouTuber This Guy Edits focuses on the editing in film and how it affects each movie. Instead of critiquing individual movies, the channel educates the public to help them consider editing in their own review of films.

"I find myself analyzing cuts and sound design way more after watching This Guy Edits," shared Reddit user InuitOverit . Considering how many movies are edited after their initial release , it's got a wide array of content to sift through, which means fans have a lot to learn from a true professional.

Lindsay Ellis

The Youtube Channel of Lindsay Ellis

A film critic who used her YouTube channel to launch a book of her own, Lindsay Ellis recently left the YouTube scene, but her remaining backlog of content is still fascinating to look through. "Her videos are really funny while also being very interesting," commented Redditor bman9919 .

Often, Ellis considered topics that most fans failed to consider and showcased just why she took that perspective. She focused on a wide array of issues, including animation, the influence of the filmmakers on each film, and even why the greatest movie musicals are no longer particularly popular.

Like Stories Of Old

The Youtube Channel of Like Stories Of Old

The YouTuber Like Stories of Old is a critic who likes to go into depth with each video, which is why it's so rare to see content for his channel under 20 minutes long. It's also why he only tends to release videos irregularly, often with a month or more between releases.

"His voice and delivery is so unique and soothing... it's pretty remarkable how well constructed each piece is," says Redditor stumpcity . The channel addresses wide-ranging issues in Hollywood, like the Hero's Journey, entire genres in film, and archetypes within the industry. He offers a fascinating in-depth look at whatever topics he chooses, and it's why he's a beloved critic.

Every Frame A Painting

The Youtube Channel of Every Frame A Painting

While there are many visually stunning movies that can awe viewers, the YouTuber Every Frame A Painting takes apart movies to show fans exactly why they come to love the looks and aesthetic of movies. It also takes a look at how to improve those very aesthetic through editing.

"They were mainly about filmmaking techniques, editing, shot composition, blocking, etc., instead of plot/story/theme like the majority seem to be," says Reddit user scoutcjustice . While unfortunately Every Frame A Painting has stopped producing videos, fans still have a lot to learn from the content the channel already produced, as the majority continues to be relevant today.

Thomas Flight

The Youtube Channel of Thomas Flight

Often addressing topics like director preferences and the impact of particular films, the YouTuber Thomas Flight could give a masterclass in film criticism, as most fans would agree. "Thomas Flight does a really good job at highlighting technical details and is also great at explaining the historical reference points for many directors," posits Reddit user redditaccount001 .

With essays about editing, genres, and sound quality in movies, fans may come for the analysis of their favorite film and leave with a new appreciation for dynamic styles in film. The channel's in-depth analysis explains why each upload comes somewhat inconsistently, but the content is quality enough that fans hardly mind.

The videos are generally around 10 minutes long, so they’re easy to dip in and out of, with some – like “How Macguffins can Ruin Movies” – are really well done, while the Writing Lessons series offers practical advice on how to (and how not to) write a compelling screenplay.

The most popular video on the channel is aptly titled “What Game Of Thrones Kinda Forgot” and of course, tackles that final season, with 2 million views on that one.

The Take is a YouTube channel that explores the themes, characters, and ideas in movies, TV shows, and other media. The channel’s videos analyze popular films and shows to uncover potential hidden meanings and subtext.

There are some fascinating videos here too, including looking at Unreliable Narrators, why shows continue to get cancelled, along with a fair few looking into social commentary on Hollywood.

This one’s going to be more of an acquired taste, but the video essays, along with the ending explained videos, are well worth a watch.

Unsurprisingly, the top videos are those aforementioned endings, with “American Psycho Ending Explained: What Really Happened?” clocking in at 4.7 million views overall.

Jay Exci is a hilarious Youtuber who absolutely exudes the humour and wit that makes British comedy so endearing. Jay offers insightful analysis and reviews of movies, TV shows and other pop culture.

Their magnum opus comes in the form of “The Fall of Doctor Who”, which is a 5 hour 14 minute video. It’s a brilliant, thought provoking and oftentimes hilarious breakdown of the long-running sci-fi series. In fact, it was even quoted and mocked (undeservedly so) by a journalist who later admitted he hadn’t even watched the video! That’s a shame because had he done so, he’d realize how impressive the feature actually is.

The most popular video though is not “The Fall of Doctor Who” but actually (outside of the hilarious “5-Minute Crafts Makes the Worst Life Hacks of All Time”) “Netflix’s Paradise PD is Painfully Unfunny”, which has clocked in 4.2 million views.

However, there are all sorts of other neat additions here too, including a deep-dive into Quentin Tarantino’s movies, the effectiveness of jump scares, and how important opening shots in movies actually are.

Each of the videos are incredibly thoughtful and nuanced, with “Line Goes Up – The Problem With NFTs” clocking in at 11 million views. However, the next video looks specifically at The Editing Of Suicide Squad, with 3.7 million views.

These quirky parts are balanced out by some of the longer essays, including The Lion King remake, which clocks in at a tasty 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Full Fat Videos

Full Fat Videos is probably unknown to the masses, and that’s a shame because the content here is really well-done. Full Fat Videos are, by their very definition, chock full of content and really do well to break down different parts of movies and TV shows, with the intention of sparking discussions.

The video, “Is X-Men: The Last Stand Really That Bad?” offers up a thought provoking piece that dissects what went wrong with the third X-Men movie and whether the panning from fans and critics alike was justified.

The different video essays rarely run more than 30 minutes, but there’s a lot packed into that time. The most popular essay on the channel is titled “How the Russos Fixed Iron Man | Video Essay” which looks at Tony Stark’s journey across the MCU, and has 2.8 million views.

5 Essential Settings You Need to Tweak Before Posting Your Smartphone Photos

How to filter out content you don't want to see on reddit, what microsoft's auto super resolution is and how it compares to dlss and fsr.

The majority of us like watching movies. Sure, the genres we love differ, but there's still little better than losing yourself in a different world packed with a story, a setting, and characters for a couple of hours. The problem is there are so many movies to choose from, with new ones being released each and every week. So what to see?!

This is where movie reviews come in to play. Regardless of whether you're debating if it's worth paying your hard-earned cash to see the latest blockbuster in a theater, or deciding between two or more DVDs to curl up and watch from the sofa at home on a Sunday evening. Thankfully there are a host of different reviewers to choose from, many of whom have set up shop on YouTube .

What follows are five YouTube movie review channels that are a must for movie buffs everywhere.

Epic Movie Review

youtube movie review channels

The Epic Movie Review YouTube channel is a fairly new one, with just three reviews posted at the time of writing. However, assuming these guys don't give up through a lack of interest this channel is definitely worth subscribing to.

We get to see three clearly passionate movie fans giving their opinions on the movie they've literally just seen. These guys start recording the instant they leave the movie theater, with a back and forth between the trio as they digest the film while picking out key scenes and talking points.

Watch For: Honest and unbiased reviews delivered in a satisfying scattergun manner.

Blind Film Critic

youtube movie reviews

That isn't a typo, this movie reviewer is actually blind and has been since birth. His name is Tommy Edison and he operates what has to be the most unique movie review channel on YouTube right now. His videos prove beyond doubt that movies are more than just a visual medium.

We get to hear Edison's thoughts on the latest movies, which he has watched without actually seeing. This means he raises points no other reviewer even notices, with insights into actors' performances based on the tone, inflection, and subtlety of their voices.

Watch For: Reviews delivered from a unique perspective most of us will never experience.

Breakin' It Down

youtube movie reviews

Catherine Reitman is funny, attractive, and intelligent. Oh, and she knows her movies inside-out and back-to-front. Her father is famous producer and director Ivan Reitman, so she grew up around the business, and she's also an actress in her own right .

All of the above means she's more than qualified to review movies, which she does on Breakin' It Down . These aren't serious, po-faced analyses of films; instead they're fun, frivolous, and very entertaining opinions on the latest Hollywood fayre.

Watch For: Funny reviews delivered by a hot woman dressed provocatively.

Kermode + Mayo

youtube movie reviews

Simon Mayo is a DJ on British radio, while Mark Kermode is a movie reviewer that makes regular appearances on his show . This YouTube channel features videos of the two discussing movies in the studio. It sounds dull but is actually thoroughly entertaining.

Kermode is one hell of a movie reviewer. You won't particularly like the guy and you may even disagree with everything he says. But you'll be hanging on his every word as he delivers cutting reviews of the latest flicks. Suffice to say he isn't easily impressed.

Watch For: Intelligent reviews from the ' Yahtzee ' of the movie review world.

What The Flick?!

youtube movie review channels

I've saved what I consider the best until last. What The Flick?! is part of The Young Turks network, but politics rarely plays a part in the movie reviews posted to this YouTube channel. Thankfully. Which is, incidentally, the first place I turn to when weighing up a new release.

What The Flick?! draws together reviewers from across the Web and gets them talking about the movies they've all recently seen. They each have an opinion and hold on to it tightly in order to retain their reputations. It means disagreements are in plentiful supply.

Watch For: A panel of professionals offering expert opinions on movies.

Conclusions

Some of these YouTube movie review channels are populated by reviews from amateurs, while some are from professionals. But one of the great things the Internet has done is blurred the lines between these two approaches. What you often find is that passionate people who do this for fun rather than as a career are more entertaining to watch. And with reviewers of all forms of media it's about finding the ones you trust and which share your personal likes and dislikes.

Feel free to let us know in the comments section below which of these channels you enjoy and which you didn't enjoy. Or share your personal favorite sources for movie reviews, whether they be YouTube channels, websites, or apps. Not only will you be adding to the collective pool of wisdom on the Web you'll also be gaining points to use for rewards and giveaways here on MakeUseOf .

The 3 Best YouTube Channels for Funny Movie Commentary

Cinematic trailers often look incredible, with heart-pounding action shots and fast-paced cuts, but more often than not, the actual movie is a letdown (looking at you, “Suicide Squad”). One solution to this all-too-common situation is to hear from someone who has already watched the film and can tell you honestly if it is worth your time and money. Look no further than YouTube, where several successful channels create hugely entertaining videos that offer their own take on various feature films. There are many such channels on the streaming platform, but the following three in particular feature wildly entertaining content that projects a quick-witted attitude and an analytical sense of humor.

1. ScreenJunkies

2. cinemawins.

Narrated by Lee Boucher, CinemaWins is excessively positive about the things it reviews. It doesn’t create parody trailers like ScreenJunkies; rather, it tallies the “wins,” or positive aspects, of the movie or TV series under review.

The About section of CinemaWins’ YouTube page reads: “Because liking things is more fun than not liking things,” which seems like pretty good reasoning. The page adds that the channel is meant to be an inversion of the more cynical CinemaSins, which is discussed below.

3. CinemaSins

If you prefer to balance out the favorable reviews of CinemaWins, then go to CinemaSins. Despite the names, the two aren’t managed by the same people. Just don’t take the criticisms of your favorite movie to heart, because it’s all in good fun. The “sins” are generally awarded for lousy writing, factual flaws, lousy acting or clichés, all while the movie or TV show is gleefully ripped to pieces.

Unsurprisingly, CinemaSins has received a lot of backlash . A channel so relentlessly critical of films and TV shows, which are usually a source of pride for filmmakers, will obviously rub some people the wrong way. Critics have claimed that the channel fails as genuine criticism because it goes over the top in nitpicking faults and generally lacks understanding about the industry. It has also been called mean-spirited, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts , a director, tweeting: “Things like Cinema Sins simply suck the lifeblood of other people and are often just wrong about intent or how cinema works. It’s terrible.”

Some “sins” awarded are trivial, but on the other hand, the hyperbolic criticism is entertaining and can be balanced out by the upbeat positivity of CinemaWins. Still, some of the points that CinemaSins make are entirely valid and are helpful when deciding whether a movie ticket is worth the price.

Top 10 Best YouTube Movie Critics

movie review youtubers

It was a hard choice between Nostalgia Critic and Chris Stuckmann. I think I made the right choice. I watch Nostalgia Critic because he makes me laugh. That's it. I watch Chris because he makes really good points and he makes pretty good jokes a lot. Also, his "Toy Story 4" review made me watch it, and I absolutely loved it. I was amazed at that movie. Thanks, Chris.

He's my favorite movie reviewer on YouTube. Not only does he have well-written videos, but he also has charisma. While Jeremy Jahns and Nostalgia Critic are funny, both of them are either too fast-paced or come off too unappealing for my tastes. Chris is in-depth and has awesome humor. I also like his Hilariocity (hilarious atrocity movies) reviews. They are so detailed, funny, and rewatchable. Chris Stuckmann is my favorite movie reviewer and YouTuber.

movie review youtubers

He's charismatic but also gives biased opinions. He usually gives too good reviews to otherwise mediocre movies, so it's hard to take his opinion into consideration, really.

His impressions of people in films are just... gold!

movie review youtubers

Great critic! He gives good reviews and he's pretty damn funny too!

Love watching this guy! Especially his Last Airbender review!

I like Jeremy Jahns, Chris Stuckmann is okay, but I think Nostalgia Critic should definitely be number one.

This guy has so much charisma. He seems like such a likable guy.

Watch his 'Top 10 Most Epic Movies' video - his 'epic trailer voice' is just golden.

movie review youtubers

Deserves a place in the top 10. Puts a lot of hard work into his reviews.

He deserves to be above Nostalgia Critic.

movie review youtubers

One of the few reviewers looking for craft.

movie review youtubers

CinemaSins should be way higher! They show no bias and you're guaranteed to laugh at least once!

I personally don't see them as critics. Just expert nitpickers from what I've seen.

movie review youtubers

How is this guy not higher on the list? Most of his reviews are evenly balanced (key word is MOST), and he ends all of his videos being very cheerful and happy.

Recently, Screen Junkies News has upped their game. They're focusing more on the mechanics behind Hollywood, a bit political economy-ish at times. As a weekly news source, I'd say they're my favorite. Better and more intelligent dialogue than most panel-based YouTube shows. And not so serious that they're not enjoyable to hang out with.

He's a great critic, and his rants are hilarious!

Why does no one know about him? He is bae!

movie review youtubers

Not entirely a movie critic, but when he makes his good-length, 20-minute-long reviews are great! He focuses on TERRIBLE films and goes into depth about WHY they're bad. New to the channel? Go see his review of Birdemic or Cool Cat Saves the Kids. (That name sounds bad)

Childhood classic. Can't beat Search for the Worst. Everyone wants a show that's influential.

He deserves more subscribers than he has. This guy is an amazing reviewer on YouTube!

movie review youtubers

This guy is a beast. He makes the greatest videos on the internet.

Super informative and one of the best out there.

Should be top 5 at least. He's so funny!

  • Movie Review: ‘Hit Man’

movie review youtubers

NEW YORK (OSV News) – A fact-based fish-out-of-water tale, director and co-writer Richard Linklater’s black comedy “Hit Man” (Netflix) starts off intriguingly. After some needlessly graphic forays into eroticism, however, the film’s third-act departure from the real biography of its protagonist sends a morally skewed message.

Glen Powell — who collaborated with Linklater on the script, which is based on an article by Skip Hollandsworth — plays mild-mannered New Orleans philosophy professor Gary Johnson. Although his routine-driven, solitary lifestyle centers on his cats, Gary’s flair for electronics does enable him to dabble in undercover surveillance work for the police as a sideline.

Suddenly called upon to pose as an assassin-for-hire during a sting operation, Gary is initially intimidated and frightened. But he soon finds he has a knack for the work. Calling himself Ron, and dressed in ever more elaborate disguises, he tailors his various personas to meet the expectations of each suspect he’s trying to ensnare.

Despite his success, Gary’s situation becomes complicated when he first runs afoul of Jasper (Austin Amelio), the full-time cop whose role he has usurped, and then falls for Madison (Adria Arjona), an abused wife who wants him to kill her lowlife husband, Ray (Evan Holtzman). Gary persuades Madison to adopt a more peaceful plan. But he doesn’t share his secret with her.

By the midpoint of the running time, there’s an enjoyable irony to Gary’s dual life. He explores abstract questions of identity in the classroom while simultaneously conducting a secret romance in the guise of his tough-guy alter ego.

But, ethically at least, things unravel with the movie’s climax. Without resorting to a spoiler, suffice it to say that the wrap-up of the plot blithely suggests that heinous crimes can serve as the foundation for a happy future. Such a wrongheaded outlook makes “Hit Man” unsuitable for viewers of any age.

The film contains a frivolous view of evildoing, strong sexual content, including explicit premarital encounters and implied aberrant acts, a few profanities, several milder oaths, pervasive rough and much crude language and about a half-dozen crass terms. The OSV News classification is O — morally offensive. The Motion Picture Association rating is R — restricted. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.

Move over Joy and Sadness. Anxiety and Embarrassment are taking over. Riley has hit puberty.

Pixar's new animated movie, Inside Out 2 , reaches theaters this weekend, nearly 10 years since the first movie became a sensation, winning an Academy Award, topping the box office and then earning millions more fans on streaming.

Clockwise from top left: Inside Out 2, Thelma, Twisters, Hit Man, Fancy Dance and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Movie Reviews

These are the 19 movies we're most excited about this summer.

In the sequel, as in the original movie , emotions are portrayed as anthropomorphized characters who control the mind of a spirited young hockey player named Riley. She was 11 in Inside Out . Now she's 13 and facing an onslaught of intense new emotions.

Resonating with kids

Pixar is expecting Inside Out 2 to do well at the box office, partly because the characters continue to resonate with teens and adults who saw the original as younger kids.

José, a ninth-grader who lives in New Jersey, said he saw Inside Out for the first time when it came out in 2015.

"Six-year-old me, after I saw that movie, I thought people were inside my head," he said. (NPR is using only José's first name because he attends a school for teens with social-emotional challenges.)

As he got older, José says, the movie played differently. He understood, for example, what happens when Riley pretends she's joyful when she's really sad.

"It was all like a hot mess. Like, she needed to let out her feelings," he said.

Kristi Zybulewski, a clinical social worker at Sage Alliance, Paramus, where José goes to school, said that most of the teenagers she works with have seen Inside Out , often on the recommendation of a therapist.

She said she's grateful for the movie because it gives kids an "emotional vocabulary" so they can name their feelings and because it supports what she tells her students in therapy: "All emotions are welcome. ... They're all necessary. They're all meaningful. They're all rich."

Zybulewski herself is a huge fan. She has dressed up as Sadness on Halloween and has figurines of all the emotions on her desk.

One of her favorite scenes in the first movie is when Sadness sits with tearful Bing Bong, Riley's imaginary friend from early childhood.

"The scene ... reminded me very much of being a therapist," said Zybulewski. "Sitting with sadness, sitting with difficult emotions, is something that so many people feel uncomfortable with. Understandably so. But it's such a gift we can give to each other."

Introducing … Anxiety

The idea of social-emotional learning, where students acquire the skills they need to regulate, understand and talk about their emotions, is now fairly common, but that wasn't always the case.

How social-emotional learning became a front line in the battle against CRT

How social-emotional learning became a front line in the battle against CRT

"When I grew up, emotions were not talked about a lot. It was something that my generation didn't really do a lot of," said Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer. He co-wrote and co-directed Inside Out and is an executive producer on Inside Out 2 .

Still, young people today seem more comfortable talking about their feelings, he said, "which is great, because they are these powerful but largely hidden rivers that run beneath and power everything in ways that we're not even aware of."

But having emotional intelligence won't spare a child the tumult of puberty. And kids, teenagers and young adults have reported rising levels of anxiety.

In the new movie, Anxiety not only takes almost complete control of Riley's mind but also "bottles up" the characters of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, relegating them to "suppressed emotions."

Lisa Damour, one of the psychologists who consulted on both Inside Out movies, said it makes perfect sense that Anxiety would be a key character as Riley hits puberty.

"It's because they can anticipate more things that could go wrong," said Damour. "Fear tends to be the emotion that we have that reacts to immediate threats. Anxiety can imagine all of the things that can go wrong and worry about them."

Movie Interviews

It's all in your head: director pete docter gets emotional in 'inside out'.

Damour said she believes that the Inside Out movies help kids — and parents — validate emotions, including the painful ones, and show us that feeling those emotions can even make us better humans.

Fifteen-year-old José hopes the new movie helps adults too. "Not a lot of people understand teenagers," he said, "so this film will be a big help to parents [who] deal with kids becoming a teenager."

8 New Movies Our Critics Are Talking About This Week

Whether you’re a casual moviegoer or an avid buff, our reviewers think these films are worth knowing about.

By The New York Times

Critic’s Pick

‘Bad Boys,’ good flick.

Martin Lawrence, in a burgundy track suit, kneels on a blue car and holds a gun with one hand. Will Smith, in a black tank top and pants, runs with a gun up to the car.

‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the latest installment of this buddy cop franchise follows Officers Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) as they set out to clear their late captain’s name after he’s falsely linked to a drug cartel.

From our review:

Smith and Lawrence also make this adventure a riotous triumph. These stars embody the care and anxieties their characters feel for each other, wielding their chemistry to smooth over abrupt tonal shifts. For example, an all-out firefight looping in a Barry White needle drop is a major highlight. And a run-in with racist good old boys, inspiring a Reba McEntire cover of the film’s theme song, makes for another memorable scene. This violent franchise has rarely felt so assured, so relaxed and knowingly funny.

A fairy tale without the happily ever after.

In this feature debut from Daina O. Pusic, a mother (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and her terminal daughter, Tuesday (Lola Petticrew), meet and contend with Death, as embodied by a mystical parrot (voiced by Arinzé Kene).

Without much to distract from the three central characters, “Tuesday” can feel overlong and a little claustrophobic. Yet this compassionate fairy tale works because the actors are so in sync and the imagery — as in one shot of the bird curled like an apostrophe in a dead woman’s tear duct — is often magical. … The sum is a highly imaginative picture that, while considering one family’s pain, also asks us to ponder the possibility that a life without end means nothing less than a world without a future.

Out of the closet and into her 30s.

Dakota Johnson plays Lucy, an introverted and repressed 30-something who comes out (of her shell and the closet) after her best friend, Jane (Sonoya Mizuno), announces that she’s moving away and pushes Lucy to leave her comfort zone.

Directed with a light and understated touch by a power couple — the comedian Tig Notaro and the actress Stephanie Allynne — the movie feels very lived-in, the banter fresh and funny, even if sometimes it feels like it’s standing in place a bit too long.

In the United States, every match will be televised in English on either Fox, Fox Sports 1 or Fox Sports 2, and in Spanish on TUDN, Univision or UniMas. But if you don’t have cable, we’ve found all the best ways you can watch a live stream of Copa America 2024.

You can watch Copa America matches for free via any live-TV streaming service that has the necessary channels  and  a trial. That includes: Fubo (“Pro” channel package includes Fox, FS1, FS2, TUDN, Univision and UniMas), YouTube TV (“Base Plan” includes Fox, FS1, FS2, TUDN, Univision and UniMas) and DirecTV Stream (“Entertainment” package includes Fox, FS1 and Univision, but you’ll need to go up to “Ultimate” to also get FS2, TUDN and UniMas).

The Fubo free trial is seven days, while the others are both five. As such, even if you use all three free trials separately, it won’t quite get you through the entire tournament, which lasts a total of 24 days. Still, if you just want to watch a specific match or a short stretch of games for free, any of these options are perfect.

Fubo, YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream all get pricey after their free trials. So, if you’ve already used up all those trials, and you’re simply looking for the cheapest way to watch a live stream of Copa America 2024 matches, Sling TV is the answer.

The “ Sling Blue ” channel package includes Fox (live in select markets) and Fox Sports 1, while Fox Sports 2 is in the “Sports Extra” add-on. Together, it’s just $31 for your first month (normally $51 per month), which is far cheaper than any other live-TV streaming service with these channels.

It’s important to note that Fox is only available live in a few markets across the United States, so this option won’t work for everyone. However, you could also potentially get your local Fox channel with an antenna, and then simply use Sling for the Fox Sports 1 and 2 channels.

All of the streaming services we just covered are US-only. However, if you use a virtual private network (VPN), you can hide your location/IP address and connect to a digital server in the United States. This allows you to access content as if you were physically located there, thus letting you watch Copa America matches on Fubo, YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream or Sling from abroad.

There are a lot of good VPN’s out there (you can check out our guide to the best VPN services ), but we would go with NordVPN . It’s safe, maintains fast streaming speeds and is easy to use, plus it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
