Cost of Living for Travel Nurses in Georgia

Cost of living refers to the cost of maintaining a specific standard of living across different geographical areas and is an important factor to consider when planning your next travel assignment.

Fortunately, according to BestPlaces.net , the average cost of living in Georgia is less than the US average, with a cost of living rate of 94.5. A rating greater than 100 means that the location in question is more expensive than the national average. Keep in mind that this average includes the entire state.

Payscale reports that the overall cost of living in the city of Atlanta is 5% higher than the national average, with housing costing 12% more than the national average. The higher cost of living in Atlanta is because it is a populated urban area and the largest city in the state. Most areas across Georgia are more suburban or urban and have a lower cost of living.

If you take a travel assignment in Georgia but outside of Atlanta, BestPlaces.net reports a lower cost of living across the board, including grocery bills, healthcare, and median home cost. Pros & Cons of Travel Nursing in Georgia

Before deciding on a travel assignment in any location, it is wise to take a look at some of the positive and negative aspects so that you are clear about what you are getting yourself into. Everyone has different priorities. Just because one travel nurse enjoyed their experience at one hospital or city does not mean that every other nurse will feel the same.

Take inventory of what you value most in a travel assignment. You can take a look at some of the pros and cons of travel nursing in Georgia to see if it’s the right choice for you.

Pros of Travel Nursing in Georgia

1. There is an abundance of travel assignments – According to the Georgia Hospital Association , travel nurses make up as much as 60% or more of staff across all of the hospitals in the state.

2. Georgia has mild winters – For travel nurses who don’t want to have to deal with snowstorms and long, cold winters, Georgia may be the perfect spot. Temperatures in GA rarely go below freezing, and the weather is typically mild throughout the year.

3. The state has great sports teams – If spending time watching sports is important to you, you’ll be happy to know that Georgia has a number of fan-favorite sports teams including:

  • The Atlanta Falcons (NFL)
  • The Atlanta Braves (MLB)
  • The Atlanta Hawks (NBA)

4. Lower cost of living than most US states – If your goal as a travel nurse is to find inexpensive housing and save money during your assignment, Georgia may be a great fit!

5. Georgia offers excellent outdoor adventure for people who love to spend time in nature – The state offers numerous hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail), luscious green mountains, and beautiful beaches.

Cons of Travel Nursing in Georgia

1. There may be an overabundance of travel assignments – This is great news for travel nurses in terms of high opportunity. However, some travel nurses may wonder why the administration in these hospitals can’t hold onto their career nurses. Having so many travel nurses is not a good long-term financial, morale, or even in some cases, patient-care strategy.

2. Georgia has consistent humidity – Although the weather is relativity mild in Georgia, the air tends to be humid, making temperatures feel much hotter than they actually are. If Georgia is the place you want to be, ensure you keep a water bottle with you at all times in the summer to prevent dehydration.

3. Bad traffic in cities such as Atlanta – If sitting in traffic to get to the hospital isn’t your cup of tea, this is an important consideration. You may want to find housing close to your facility so you don’t spend hours a day sitting in a car while commuting to work.

4. Georgia has limited public transportation – Another reason to live close to your travel assignment, especially if you won’t have a car during your travels.

5. The south has longer allergy seasons – Southern states, including Georgia, have longer allergy seasons than the rest of the country, partly due to the region’s moderate weather and warmer winters. If allergies are an issue for you, Georgia may not be the right place for your next travel assignment.

Things To Do on Your Days Off

There are so many popular, fun, and unique things to do in the state of Georgia. Take a look at these popular activities:

Thousands of Nurses Love Partnering with Trusted Nurse Staffing

Chris collins.

I was first introduced to Trusted Nurse Staffing through a co-worker that was working with Trusted and my current recruiter. I was going through a tough time personally, and was looking to experience new places and things. As a Georgia native I've enjoyed working in my home state, while gaining new friendships and professional experiences. I look forward to working more contracts in Georgia as well as other states in the future.

Trusted nurse staffing is such a great company to work for and they are so easy to work with. I love using them as my first company for travel nursing!

My recruiter did an amazing job at finding the best fit for me! An outstanding job with communication, updates and ensuring all my questions were answered!!

I have been with Trusted Staffing for about 18 months now. I have essentially been working local contracts, but the experiences have been memorable. My recruiter, is always available when I have a question or concern. Travel nursing is something all nurses should experience. I can't wait until I can do some serious traveling

Every member of this company I’ve interacted with has exceeded my expectations. My recruiter, Alex, is so commutative and goes above and beyond always. I can’t imagine switching to another company!

I have had the best experience with Trusted Nurse Staffing. My recruiter Tom is amazing. He always treats me with respect and as a friend. He is on top of everything I need. And when my Dad passed away, he helped me with time off, no problem and they even sent me a beautiful comfort box that was very helpful. Fully recommend this agency.

Must-See Places in Kentucky on Your Travel Assignment

When you’re on a healthcare travel assignment in Kentucky, you’ll find much more than bluegrass fields and horse farms. The state is rich in history, natural beauty, and unique cultural experiences that can turn your time off into a memorable adventure. Here are the top places you should visit while working in the Bluegrass State.

TNAA Travel Nurse in Kentucky

Our travel nurse, Jennifer, has been enjoying her time in Prestonburg, KY, in the Appalachians. “Thank you for sending me to the most beautiful place I’ve been while traveling for work,” she shared. “I’m loving the culture and looking forward to having a great time here. I didn’t think twice about joining TNAA! The best recruiters!”

Best Places to Visit in Kentucky for Healthcare Travelers

Mammoth cave national park.

Home to the world’s longest-known cave system, Mammoth Cave National Park offers an underground wonderland to explore. With over 400 miles of charted passageways, adventurous healthcare travelers will have plenty to enjoy on their day off, even for novice spelunkers. Guided tours range from easy walks to challenging spelunking expeditions. Above ground, the park offers hiking, horseback riding, and camping opportunities.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Known as the “Niagara of the South,” Cumberland Falls is one of Kentucky’s most stunning natural attractions. The waterfall is 68 feet high and 125 feet wide, creating a majestic sight that’s especially beautiful when a moonbow— a rainbow created by the moon’s light—appears. The park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and opportunities for whitewater rafting. It’s an ideal spot for healthcare travelers to relax and recharge after a long shift.

Red River Gorge

For travelers who love the outdoors, visiting the Red River Gorge is one of the best places to go in Kentucky. Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, this natural area is famous for its sandstone arches, cliffs, and dense forests. Whether you’re into hiking, rock climbing, or just enjoying the stunning scenery, Red River Gorge offers something for every nature-loving healthcare traveler. The area is spectacular in the fall when the foliage turns vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. Enjoy it on a day trip, or make it a weekend getaway in one of the area’s cozy cabins.

The Bourbon Trail

Kentucky is the birthplace of bourbon, and the Bourbon Trail is the perfect way to explore this facet of the state’s heritage. The trail includes several distilleries where you can learn about bourbon-making, enjoy tastings, and even pick up a bottle (or two!) to bring home. Popular stops include Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Buffalo Trace. It’s a great way to spend a weekend off and dive into the local culture.

Louisville is a city rich in culture, history, and Southern charm – and it is ranked one of the best places to live in Kentucky, making it an ideal travel assignment destination. Even if you’re not here for the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs is a must-see, offering a deep dive into the history of this iconic event.

While in town, take a scenic river cruise on the historic Belle of Louisville, and don’t miss trying the famous Hot Brown at the Brown Hotel. Baseball fans should check out the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory , where you can see how the iconic bats are made and snap a selfie with the giant bat outside.

For healthcare travelers who love a dose of the paranormal, a visit to Waverly Hills Sanatorium is just the ticket – it’s one of the most haunted places in the U.S. It originally opened as a tuberculosis hospital, but the sanatorium is now known for its ghost tours, which attract thrill-seekers and history buffs alike.

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area

Nestled between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a natural playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Healthcare travelers who enjoy hiking, fishing, or spotting wildlife will find endless adventure here. The park is also home to a planetarium, a bison and elk prairie, and numerous campgrounds, making it one of the best places to camp in Kentucky.

Columbus-Belmont State Park

Perched on the scenic shores of the Mississippi River, Columbus-Belmont State Park offers a tranquil retreat with expansive green spaces and breathtaking river views. This peaceful park is perfect for camping, picnicking, or immersing in nature. Whether hiking the trails, exploring the park’s historical landmarks, or watching the sunset over the river, Columbus-Belmont provides a serene escape to unwind and soak in the beauty of Kentucky’s great outdoors and is one of the best places to visit in Kentucky.

Lexington is known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” offering healthcare travelers a blend of history, culture, and gorgeous scenery. The Keeneland Race Course is a great place to enjoy this equestrian-rich city. This historic track offers a more traditional racing experience than the Kentucky Derby. Whether you’re there during racing season or not, Keeneland’s beautifully manicured grounds and classic architecture make it a must-see. Guided tours are available, giving you an insider’s look at Kentucky’s horse racing history and traditions.

While Lexington’s equestrian culture is a major draw for travelers, the city also boasts a rich historical legacy. A visit to Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate , offers a glimpse into the life of one of America’s most influential statesmen. The meticulously preserved mansion, surrounded by lush gardens and serene walking paths, provides a peaceful retreat where travelers can explore Kentucky’s past.

Lexington’s vibrant downtown area is perfect for a day off, providing a mix of boutique shops and a burgeoning food scene that showcases the region’s farm-to-table philosophy. Healthcare travelers can explore the local distilleries and craft breweries or stroll through the city’s numerous parks and green spaces, many of which were designed by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
