'கப்ஜா' என்ற ஒரு படத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு தலைவலியுடன் அடுத்து இந்தப் படத்தைப் பார்த்ததால் 'தலைவலி' கடும் தலைவலியாக மாறியதுதான் மிச்சம். ஒரு படத்தில் ஒரு கதை இருந்தால் பரவாயில்லை, இந்தப் படத்தில் சில பல கதைகளை வைத்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர் கல்யாண். இன்ஸ்பெக்டராக இருக்கும் காஜல் அகர்வால், பிரபல தாதா கேஎஸ் ரவிக்குமாரை கைது செய்ய ஒரு பக்கம் அலைகிறார். இன்னொரு பக்கம் காஜல் அகர்வாலை பேயாக இருக்கும் யோகி பாபு, ஜெகன், கிங்ஸ்லி ஆகியோர் அடிக்கடி பயமுறுத்துகிறார்கள். மற்றொரு பக்கம் தாதா கேஎஸ் ரவிக்குமார், காஜல் அகர்வால் அப்பாவின் நண்பர்களைக் கொல்ல வேண்டுமென்று துடித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார். இப்படி இரண்டு, மூன்று கதைகள் படத்தில் இருக்கிறது. எல்லாம் சுற்றி வந்து முடிவதற்குள் நம்மை படுத்தி எடுத்துவிடுகிறது.

ஒரு படத்திலேயே யோகி பாபு, ஜெகன், கிங்ஸ்லி, ஊர்வசி, சத்யன், மொட்ட ராஜேந்திரன், மயில்சாமி என பல நகைச்சுவை நடிகர்கள் இருந்தும் ஒரு காட்சியில் கூட நம்மால் சிரிக்க முடியாத படமாக இந்தப் படம்தான் இருந்திருக்கும். 'ஜில்லா' படத்தின் காஜல் அகர்வாலை மீண்டும் கண்முன் கொண்டு வந்து நிறுத்தியிருக்கிறார் காஜல் அகர்வால். இந்தப் படத்தில் தனக்கு என்ன பெயர் கிடைக்கும் என காஜல் அகர்வால் நடிக்க சம்மதித்தார் என்பது அவருக்கே வெளிச்சம். திரைக்கதை எங்கெல்லாமோ சுற்றிச் சுற்றி நகர்கிறது. அதை எழுதிய இயக்குனருக்காவது படத்தை முடித்து பார்த்த பிறகு புரிந்திருக்குமா என்பது சந்தேகம்தான். இவ்வளவு பேரை நடிக்க வைத்ததற்காவாவது ஒரு நல்ல ரூம் போட்டு படத்தின் கதையை யோசித்திருக்கலாம் இயக்குனர். எப்படியோ பேசி சம்மதிக்க வைத்து அத்தனை பேரையும் நடிக்க வைத்துவிட்டார். அந்தத் திறமையை இந்தப் படத்தில் காட்டியிருக்கலாம். இதற்கு மேலும் இந்தப் படத்தைப் பற்றி எழுதி உங்களது நேரத்தை வீணாக்க விரும்பவில்லை. கோஸ்டி - கோ அன்ட் ஸ்டடி சினிமா…இயக்குனரே…

தமிழ் திரையுலகிற்கு எக்கச்சக்கமான திரைபிரபலங்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்திய பாராதிராஜாவின் அறிமுகம் தான் காஜல் அகர்வால். மும்பையை சேர்ந்த காஜல், 1985ம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் 19ம் தேதி பிறந்தார். மும்பையில் கல்லூரி படிப்பை முடித்துவிட்டு அப்படியே மாடலிங்கில் நுழைந்தார் காஜல். க்யூன் ஹோ கயா நா என்ற இந்தி படத்தில் சப்போர்ட்டிங் ரோலில் நடித்த காஜல் லக்ஷ்மி கல்யாணம் என்ற தெலுங்கு படத்தின் மூலம் ஹீரோயினாக அறிமுகமானார். தொடர்ந்து தமிழில், பாரதிராஜாவின் பொம்மலாட்டம் படத்தில் அறிமுகமானார். ஆனால் அதற்கு முன்பாகவே பழனி படம் வௌியாகிவிட்டது. தமிழில் பெரிய வாய்ப்பில்லாததால் தெலுங்கில் ஏகப்பட்ட படங்களில் நடித்து டாப் நடிகையாக உயர்ந்தார். ஒரு சிறிய இடைவௌிக்கு பிறகு நான் மகான் அல்ல படத்தில் ரீ-என்ட்ரியானார். பிறகு துப்பாக்கி, மாற்றான் போன்ற படங்களில் நடித்து பிரபலமானார். தற்போது தமிழ், தெலுங்கு என இரண்டு மொழிகளிலும் நடித்து வருகிறார்.

'Ghosty' movie review: Irreverent, tasteless horror comedy

Let me try to make sense of this convoluted mess of a screenplay. Let me try... Police officer Arthi (Kajal Aggarwal) is facing suspension because she behaves weirdly. She is disturbed by aspiring filmmakers Yogi Babu, Jegan and Redin Kingsley. Let’s leave this angle for now.

Then, we have a random flashback where Arthi and her fellow officers — played by Sathyan and Urvashi — are out to arrest Das (KS Ravikumar), who has escaped from prison. We learn that Arthi’s father was the one who put Das behind bars. There are two oaths taken that day. One, Arthi asserts that she will arrest him again, and two, Das will kill her dad’s colleagues. Once again, let’s leave this angle for now. Arthi is also disturbed by an eerie doll, which randomly finds its way into her house. Now, let’s leave this angle too, and yeah, there’s Jai in a cameo, playing the nalla aathma, who invariably becomes the saviour. Of course, a police officer needs a male saviour, even if it is from the other world. 

Billed as a horror comedy, Ghosty uses age-old tropes like randomly flickering lights, randomly found dead bodies, randomly grotesque dolls, randomly loud background score (Sam CS) and of course... randomly shutting doors to establish the horror part. For the comedy part, watching sluggish set pieces with unflattering payoffs, and Kajal, painted with a clown face, trying to make us laugh out loud, only elicits a faint sigh that is a reflection of our exasperation. But, points to the makers for constantly exhausting the audience with both its horror and comedy.

The ensemble cast, which boasts of talents like the late Mayilsamy, KS Ravikumar, Urvashi, Madhan Bob, and Devadharshini among others is criminally underutilised. The attempts to make us laugh fail miserably. For instance, in a scene when a nighty-clad Aadhi (Urvashi) huffs and puffs in to arrest an escaping Das, he asks her, “Ena Ungala Rape Pana porangala?” And in an exorcism scene when Aadhi’s plan does not work well, Arthi says, “Order 2 litres of acid to pour on your face.” It is 2023. It was not funny in 1993, 2003, and 2013 either. I repeat, these tasteless and callous gags are unfunny. They always were. 

Ghosty reminds us that it is high time we stop stigmatising mental hospitals and their patients. The irreverent stereotyping of people with mental health problems needs to be called out, especially with society trying to normalise such conversations. More importantly, it is just lazy writing to pluck these low-hanging fruits and still just make shoddy jokes around such sensitive topics. Responsible filmmaking, adequate research and situational awareness is the need of the hour.

The film is just a glossy 2-hour product of incoherent and lethargic writing. Apart from Kajal’s charming screen presence, there is very little that goes her way in Ghosty. In a passing moment, Yogi Babu’s character comments about their potential heroine not having a proper lipsync. And watching Ghosty, this joke just hits too close to home.Walking out of Ghosty, which decided to portray most of its characters as fools, I wondered if the makers assumed its audience to be one too.

Storytellers of Tamil cinema need to evaluate their clinginess to the horror comedy genre which is getting insufferable with every flick relentlessly being made on the genre. The movie is about a cop who takes it upon herself to hunt down a fugitive gangster who was incarcerated by her father a couple of decades ago. Actress Kajal Aggarwal who was last seen in the romantic comedy drama Hey! Sinamika is back on screens with her horror comedy film Ghosty. Actor Yogi Babu has played a vital part in the flick. Director Kalyaan has penned and helmed the drama. So, how has the horror comedy film Ghosty come out? Will it help actress Kajal Aggarwal to establish a bankable lead heroine image, and revitalize her career in Tamil cinema ? To know that let us get into the movie review.

The film follows the life of Aarthi (Kajal Aggarwal), a cop who is on the verge of suspension for her conduct. Then we have a flashback, in which we witness Aarthi along with her colleagues Aadhi (Urvashi) and Mayil (Sathyan) sets up on a journey to incarcerate Das (K S Ravikumar), a gangster who was imprisoned by her father but managed to escape from prison. Das on his part wants to exact revenge on the whole unit that was responsible for putting him in prison. Aarthi meets Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Jagan who claim themselves to be movie buff and wannabe filmmakers. They try to lure her into playing the lead of their upcoming film. 

In an unfortunate turn of events, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, and Jagan are exposed to a chemical from a research laboratory which upends their lives. Meanwhile, on her mission to catch Das, Aarthi accidently shoots an innocent person to death. She and her colleagues get terrified when they start to experience paranormal activities. They seek the aid of a shaman to put an end to eerie activities. Who did Aarthi kill, has the murdered person turned into a ghost, and if so, will they be able to escape its wrath, is what makes the rest of the flick.  

Ghosty is that kind of product when an amateur who has zero cooking skills toss in a range of ingredients, he could get his hands on, and tries to cook like a chef for fun. What to expect of a dish that comes out of such a cooking? There is a tad probability that you might get away safely eating the dish. But in the case of Ghosty there is not an iota of chance to get away safe. It is not the cliches or poor taste of comedy or the bad quality of the script in general that is worrisome about Ghosty, but the lack of effort that is exasperating to stomach. 

Literally, in every piece of the film there is convenient convenience. For instance, most of the one-liner gags used in the film seem to be shot with the flow without any thought as to whether it will work or not. Where not there any people or even assistant directors on the spot when they shot the film? Did they find the so-called quips in the movie to be funny? The screenplay not just wanders but cuts in and out from various points as director Kalyaan sees fit. At least his previous films Gulaebaghavali and Jackpot had few jokes here and there, and something as a script to ride on to get the audience on board. But Ghosty has neither, and is a complete work of lethargy. 

Actress Kajal Aggarwal has more than fifty titles to her name but still struggles to shoulder even a next to nothing role. Despite being a lead part, her role feels like a filler role and does not hold much room for her to perform. Veteran director K S Ravikumar has done a fine job discounting a few moments here and there. Actor Yogi Babu in a comedy role for the umpteenth time. But it is excruciating to watch him do stuff in the pretext of comedy. Actor Aadukalam Naren’s role has very little bearing on the proceedings, yet the actor does complete justice to it. Veteran actress Urvashi serves her purpose for being on board. Actor Redin Kingsley is adequate. Actors Suresh Chandra Menon, and Subbu Panchu are operational. Comedians Jagan, Tiger Thangadurai, Sathyan, Manobala, Motta Rajendran, Mayilsamy, Swaminathan, Devadarshini, and Livingston find it incredibly difficult to make jokes. Actors Jai, and Radhika Sarathkumar make their presence felt even in a cameo appearance. The rest of the cast has delivered an average performance. 

On the technical front, music director Sam C S’s tracks do not create an enjoyable experience. Even his background score does not add much value to the film. There is nothing special in cinematographer Jacob Rathinaraj’s frames. He has done a middling job in covering the drama. Editor Vijay Velukutty’s editing dexterity is not sufficient to clip off the shortcomings in the work of his colleague.

On the whole, actress Kajal Aggarwal’s Ghosty has nothing going its way which is only made worse by appalling performances from the cast.

• After following in her deceased father's footsteps and becoming a police officer, a young woman experiences strange phenomena while attempting to capture a criminal that escaped from her father's custody many years before.
• Aarthi (heroine) a police Inspector. Her ultimate goal is to find and arrest an accused named Daas who escaped from her father's custody 20 years back. In order to resolve the case, she is in search of the accused and wants to put him back in jail to do justice to her father's rememberance. She takes over the case in her hand and she desperately in search of him. During this travel, a shootout happens but Aarthi shoots and kills another person thinking it was Daas and commits a blunder. But after that she manages to hide her mistake without affecting her job or the interrogation of Dass case. In the second half of the film Aarthi is facing a bad occult presence at her home. How she tackles it and her efforts to find and arrest Dass forms the rest of the story.

Mayilsamy is a popular and veteran television down the South Indian entertainment industry known for his impeccable comic timing and who is mostly seen playing strong supporting character roles in popular Tamil daily soaps and Tamil movies. Mayilsamy is also an acclaimed stage performer, stand in comedian, TV host and a theatre artiste, In short, he is a multifaceted and multitalented personality of the Tamil television industry.

Kalyaan is an Indian director working in the Tamil film industry, known for his successful films like Gulaebaghavali and Jackpot. He started his career as a movie director in the year 2014. He's also a brilliant screenwriter. After winning the second season of the Tamil reality show Naalaiya Iyakkunar, Kalyaan made a breakthrough as a possible director within the Tamil film industry. He began making his directorial debut film, Katha Solla Porom, in 2014, but the film didn't find distributors and was on hold. He then began to work on the movie Kaathadi in October 2014. Sai Dhanshika was signed on to play the police officer. At the same time, Avishek Karthik, previously seen in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram (2008) and Nadunisi Naaygal (2011), was selected to portray the lead actor.

கோஸ்டி- யின் கதை

SI – ஆக இருக்கக்கூடிய கதையின் நாயகி காஜல் தற்போது போலிஸ் வேலையிலிருந்து இடைநீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார், இதற்கு காரணம் இவரின் அப்பா பல வருடங்களுக்கு முன் பிடித்த கொலைகாரன் ஒருவர் தப்பித்துவிடுகிறார், அப்போது காஜலின் உயர் அதிகாரி அவரை பிடித்து காஜலிடம் கொடுக்கிறார் ஆனால் காஜலிடமிருந்து அவர் மீண்டும் தப்பி ஓடுகிறார், அதனால் தான் அவர் இடைநீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டார்.

Ghudchadi Review: Raveena, Khushalii And Parth Try To Save This Strictly Average Film With Their Performance

Ghudchadi Review: In 2022, a film titled Ghudchadi starring Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Khushalii Kumar, and Parth Samthaan was announced. The film's announcement had surely mad everyone excited for various reasons. Now, after two years, the movie has premiere on Jio Cinema. So, is this movie worth the wait? Find out in our review below...

The movie revolves around a guy named Chirag (Parth Samthaan) and his grandmother Kalyani (Aruna Irani) wants him to get married soon. He meets a girl named Devika (Khushalii Kumar) at a wedding, love at first sight situation and then they start dating. Chirag's father Veer (Sanjay Dutt) is a widower and one day he meets his ex-girlfriend Menaka (Raveena Tandon) who is the mother of Devika. Now, one side the kids are romancing, and on the other side, the parents are romancing. What will happen next when they all will come to know about this situation...

The basic concept of Ghudchadi is very refreshing and surely offers something new. But, the storyline has not been converted into a good film. The first half of the film is bland, and doesn't make us laugh out loud. The interval block is hilarious, and in the second half the movie becomes better. The emotional climax hits the right chords of our hearts.

The problem with Ghudchadi is that the way it has been narrated it looks like a TV serial that too from the early 2000s. The dialogues given to the characters, especially the ones mouthed by Kalyani's character will make you cringe. If this film had a better narration, it could have done wonders.

Ghudchadi Actors' Performances

Ghudchadi is a film where even if the movie is faltering, actors are trying their best to save it. Raveena Tandon steals the show, and proves that even at 49, she can surely play the role of a romantic heroine. Comedy, emotional scenes, romance; Raveena nails it in everything. Khushalii Kumar is looking stunning in the film, and she has giving a wonderful performance. Watch out for he emotional scene in the climax, it will get tears in your eyes.

Parth Samthaan fans are in for a treat. He is a perfect hero material, has a great screen presence, and he has performed really well. We surely wish to see him in more movies. Sanjay Dutt has done a good job when it comes to comedy and emotional scenes, but when it comes to romance, the actor fails to impress. Aruna Irani has performed well, but her character is just very outdated.

Ghudchadi Music

The songs in the film are quite good. Punjabi Munde is already a chartbuster and even Dil Vasda will grab your attention.

Ghudchadi Review Final Verdict

Overall, Ghudchadi had a good concept, but it has not been converted into a good film. But, if you are a Raveena Tandon, Khushalii Kumar, or Parth Samthaan fan, then it is a must-watch for you!
