Head Teacher’s Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and for taking an interest in our school.  Hopefully you should be able to find much of the information you seek from our site. If however, you would prefer to call us then please don’t hesitate on 0121 308 5392.

I have been the Head Teacher here at Hill West for just over 15 years having fallen in love with the school on appointment as Deputy Head Teacher in 2004.  Before taking up appointment at Hill West I worked in other Birmingham schools, one located in Kingstanding and the other in Aston and gained a wealth of knowledge and experience working with the children and families in those communities.

Welcome to the "Features" section of our website, where we proudly showcase the unique elements that set our district apart

Summer is a time when many children may not have access to the free and reduced-price meals they get during the school year, and households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. This year Pennsylvania will launch SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s Summer EBT program, a new grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at local participating retailers to purchase groceries.

The Education Committee of the School Board invites the public to review selected textbooks and resources that will be piloted during the 2024-2025 school year. The materials under review will help determine their inclusion in the curriculum for the 2025-2026 school year.

This year’s Summer Academy planning is underway! The Summer Academy is designed to provide supplemental instruction to students who received Literacy Support, Math Support and/or English Language Support throughout the regular school year.

We believe high standards must be maintained for academic achievement based upon a well coordinated curriculum and developmentally appropriate instruction.

We believe all students will be actively involved in their learning through a wide array of academic and cocurricular experiences.

We believe the middle level program must be a transitional environment responsive to the unique and diverse developmental needs of the early adolescent.

We believe through a variety of challenging and age appropriate integrated experiences, we will inspire lifelong learning.

We believe the environment of the middle school will foster positive social interactions and responsible behavior.

We believe students should develop social responsibility through activities such as service learning, peer leadership and school/community involvement.

We value exploration by providing age appropriate academic and cocurricular opportunities that enable each student to meet his/her maximum potential

Introduction

Since attaining independence in 1966 Botswana has come a long way in progressing as a dynamic force in the region with a vibrant economy, a peace loving population and a working democracy, that remains committed, making it a modern and technologically advanced nation. The role of education in nation building can neither be over- emphasised nor overlooked in the overall development of the national economy and achievement of prominence in the international community. In this context the availability and accessibility of English Medium instruction both at Pre- School and Primary levels play a significant role in nation building. It is through the provision of education that leaders of tomorrow can be nurtured. The population growth in the city of Gaborone has put the existing infrastructure and educational services under such great pressure that even the vast resources of the government have been exhaustively utilised and a collaborative need currently exists for the provision of more educational facilities. Thus, Hillcrest International School, Gaborone seeks to fulfil this need as an addition to the existing network of English Medium Schools. In order to take its stake in the national economic development by offering quality education of international standard, Hillcrest International School was established in 1993 at Aedume Park, Mogoditshane and later moved to the current premises at Plot 28436, Block 3 Gaborone West in January 1998.
