Put the ‘earn’ in ‘learn: New fully sponsored ITE Work-Study Diploma by ICA comes with S$8,000 sign-on bonus

A win-win-win, get paid to earn invaluable experience and at no cost.

work study diploma ite nursing

The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has launched a new Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) that is in collaboration with Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

What is WSDip?

WSDip is an apprentice-based training programme that is open to eligible National ITE Certificate (NITEC) and Higher NITEC graduates.

While graduates may be joining companies as trainees, they are full-time salaried employees who are entitled to full employment benefits and will have opportunities for career progression.

Additionally, trainees do not have to fork out any money for their diploma as it will be fully sponsored by the company.

A majority of learning will take place in the workplace, where industry experts will show trainees the ropes while the other modules will be taught at the ITE campus.

The course typically runs for 2.5 years and graduates will emerge with a nationally recognised diploma once completed.

Why enrol in WSDip?

The WSDip programme is a good choice for those who are at the crossroads between studying and working after graduating from ITE as it has the best of both worlds.

All ITE graduating students and graduates who are keen to join the workforce after graduating can consider enrolling for this WSDip course as they can work and draw a salary while earning a diploma in the process and at no cost.

This work experience differentiates a candidate from others to potential employers, giving WSDip graduates a head start over other diploma holders.

New WSDip in Security Operations

ICA is collaborating with ITE on a new Work-Study Diploma in Security Operations.

Trainees under the course will join and become ICA officers responsible for upholding and enforcing laws of immigration and national registration.

The duties and responsibilities include deploying their acquired skills to screen people, vehicles and goods that pass through Singapore’s borders, intercepting potential threats before they reach our shores.

This will constitute 80 per cent of the course, while the remaining 20 per cent will be off-the-job training on ITE campus.

Why choose WSDip in Security Operations?

Graduates can expect to find stable full-time employment with ICA, where they can enjoy a remuneration package of up to S$37,000 initially, which consists of a base monthly salary, annual bonuses of up to 3.4 months and additional allowances.

During their 2.5-year stint as a full-time employee at ICA, they can reap benefits such as:

  • Annual increments
  • Performance bonuses
  • 14 days vacation leave
  • Medical & dental Subsidies
  • Employee welfare benefits
  • Group insurances

Not to mention, ICA is offering WSDip trainees an additional S$8,000 in cold hard cash as a sign-on bonus upon graduation, if they are successfully appointed as ICA Sergeant 2 officers and the other terms and conditions are met.

work study diploma ite nursing

Since ICA rewards its employees with a milestone payment of S$5,000 with every four years of service, this means that trainees who stay on with ICA will receive that additional sum of money 1.5 years after their course, subject to terms and conditions.

There are also a multitude of ways where trainees can progress and move up the ranks after the programme, be it in their career, education, or both.

Upon completing the WSDip, officers may also be deployed to specialised roles like Radiographic Image Analyst and First Response Team Officer, to name a few.

work study diploma ite nursing

There are also options for those with a hunger to further their education through programmes sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs that ranges from part-time/ full-time degrees to post-graduate studies.

Apply now open for 2023 intake

Applications are now open to all ITE graduating students from any course of study, and graduates from the past three years.

You can submit your application at Careers@Gov .

Work Study Diploma in Rehabilitation with ITE

work-study-diploma.jpg

The Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) is a unique 2.5 year apprenticeship programme, where ITE graduates gain a head start in their career while pursuing a nationally recognised diploma.

The WSDip course structure comprises 70% to 80% On-the-Job Training at the workplace, and 20% to 30% Off-the-Job Training at ITE.

Students get the chance to put their learned skills to use, which gives them a head start in their journey as a future Therapist.

NTUC Health has been collaborating with ITE and their students on this programme since 2020.

Youth Corps Singapore

Youth Corps Singapore empowers youth volunteers to create a socially inclusive society through volunteering opportunities.

Youth volunteers get to work with seniors, persons with disabilities, children, and youth, and family communities to build a sustainable society, with an added focus on areas such as the environment, arts, and heritage.

Youths looking to join the community care sector are regularly invited to experience working in the different business units of NTUC Health (Active Ageing Centres, Allied Health, Day Care, and Day Rehabilitation Centres).

This allows them to develop their passion for the field and to have a better understanding of the community care sector.

Meet Ng Yi Sum, one of the youths working with us as part of the Civic Service Programme (Community Care) by Youth Corps Singapore! Here’s what he had to say about the programme.

NTUC Learning Hub Attachment Programmes

ntuc-learning-hub.jpg

At the end of the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) , NTUC Health provides learning and attachment opportunities for graduating students.

Aspiring Therapy Assistants can have hands-on experience and a better understanding of different community care work settings (i.e. Nursing Homes and Day Rehabilitation Centres) before graduating from the course.

There are a lot of things I have learnt from the attachment programme. It's been very beneficial for me as we go through real life situations guided by experienced staff. This is very useful and important apart from theory and practicals that we have attended in class.

Nurasikin Bte Abdullah

Therapy Assistant

As a fresh career transition (Logistics to Healthcare) candidate, I had very little to no knowledge of Physiotherapy. As part of the course, I was attached to NTUC Health Day Rehabilitation Centre (Jurong Spring) for my internship. It was an eye-opener for me as I was introduced to the full range of duties as a Physiotherapist. I was also guided by the professional Therapists there to administer various types of physio intervention for the clients. It was insightful and definitely a good place to learn hands-on skills on Physiotherapy.

ITE to offer students work-study diplomas in 10 more courses

work study diploma ite nursing

SINGAPORE - Ms Sharon Lee's interest in cyber security was piqued when, as a child, her online gaming MapleStory account was hacked and she lost all her in-game merchandise.

In secondary school, she decided to take up computer studies where she learnt basic computing concepts, and went on to read cyber and network security at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

Next April, the 19-year-old will take up a newly-launched work-study diploma in cyber security and forensics.

It is one of 10 new work-study diplomas ITE will offer its graduates from next year, bringing the total number of course offerings in this programme to 24.

Altogether 268 companies will work with ITE on the programme for the 2020 intake, up from 114 companies previously, to ensure they are relevant to the industries.

Representatives from the companies signed letters of acceptance signifying their partnership at a ceremony on Tuesday (Nov 26) at ITE College East in Simei.

The ceremony was also attended by Education Minister Ong Ye Kung.

The new diplomas include aircraft engine maintenance, automation engineering and maritime business management.

About 600 trainees are expected to begin training across the 24 courses next year.

The work-study diplomas were first launched in April last year to give ITE graduates an alternative pathway to upskill themselves.

In-service employees at companies who are on board the programme can also enrol.

The work-study stints typically last between 2½ and three years, with 70 per cent of curriculum time conducted at the workplace.

Ms Lee, who graduated from ITE College East in March this year, will be working at content delivery network solutions provider Toffs Technologies, which helps its clients guard against data breaches and cyber attacks.

She said: "Having my gaming accounts hacked made me want to know how to secure even bigger things, like a website or business.

"This diploma programme also gives me a lot of flexibility because in a way, I'm getting paid to study and train.

"In the IT industry, it's hard to do that, as part-time jobs would mostly be lower-level jobs, which means I won't get to learn as much."

Mr Ong said in a speech at the event: "We want to acknowledge and recognise that every student has different strengths. It is an ideal that is driving through the reforms in our education system."

As they move up to the institutes of higher learning, there should be diverse pathways that appeal to them, and can bring out the best in them.

"Every child is different. Every child must have hope that they can do their best," he said.

Hello everybody, just a quick background from me. Graduated from higher Nitec in mechanical engineering with a GPA of 1.845. Don’t do very well because I realised engineering is not my passion midway through my studies but completed it regardless. Couldn’t enter local polytechnic so I enlisted in 2020 and going to ORD in few weeks. I came across a work study diploma in logistic and supply chain management and grown interest in it and do a couple of research. I wish to asked is there anybody doing work ITE study diploma and what is the experience like? Did you managed to get into local Uni with the diploma?

How to Study Nursing in Russia for International Students

Russia has one of the greatest medical schools and universities. International acknowledgment and relatively low tuition fees make them popular among applicants willing to study medicine in Russia.

Apart from programs in pharmacy, dentistry, and general medicine, universities offer full-time educational courses in nursing. The high popularity of the program in no way means that it’s easy to acquire a degree in Russia as a nurse/care worker. In fact, it takes a lot of time, effort, and hard work.

Anyway, international demand for the program led to it being offered by several universities. In order to choose the right university, one should consider information on living costs, admission requirements, fees, and available programs. This is what we are going to talk about today.

What Degrees are there for Nursing in Russia?

In Russia, apprenticeship is not enough to build a career as a nurse. The basic requirement is to complete a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree course. Full-time Bachelor Degree programs are offered by RUDN University , I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University , and Perm State Medical University .

Currently, none of the Russian universities offer any postgraduate (Masters and Ph.D.) program in nursing.

Cost of studying nursing in Russia

Tuition fees to be paid by international students vary depending on the program they choose. On average, they amount to $3500 – $4300 per academic year.

Living costs also vary depending on the type of dormitory and level of comfort. On average, a student will need up to $300-400 to pay for a room/apartment in a university hostel or dormitory.

Foreign students completing full-time courses in Russia are allowed to work (if they have free time). However, special permission is required to work legally while studying. Exceptions are only made for the students who find a job with the help of university’s International Office.

How to Study Nursing

To be able to study nursing in Russia as an international student, you first need to meet the requirements of the universities.

Since Russian universities offer only bachelor’s nursing programs, no special education is required to apply. However, there is a standard set of documents that all foreign applicants willing to study nursing need to provide. One of the documents required is the education certificate proving the completion of secondary education.

It is better to start gathering all necessary documents beforehand as this process takes time. In case of international students, time is especially valuable because they need to have all documents translated into Russian. Most often, admission offices ask for notarized and/or legalized translations.

The list of other documents necessary for a successful admission includes passport, medical certificate, and Certificate of Recognition. Universities may ask for additional documents as well.

To learn more about the requirements of the Russian universities, visit RUDN and Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University pages with information about the admission process.

There are other things that you need to take care of such as the student visa process and financing your education. To help you with that, we created a guide on How to Study in Russia for International Students . This will guide you through the steps of studying in Russia.

In What Languages Do You Study Nursing in Russia?

Bachelor programs offered by Russian universities are available in the Russian language only. Both RUDN and I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University teach their nursing programs in Russian.

Many graduate programs in the field of medicine are offered in English/French and even Spanish. However, nursing programs are taught only in Russian. Therefore, fluency in Russian is a must. Otherwise, an international student won’t be able to successfully complete the chosen course and graduate.

If prospective international students do not know Russian, they can complete a preparatory course. For example, a course offered by RUDN university . The methods and approaches used by the teachers allow international students to develop fluency in the Russian language in a relatively short period of time (10 months). Upon completing the course, students may pass Russian Language Proficiency Test.
