Physical appearance [ ]

Experiment No. Z-57 is a large monster vaguely reminiscent of a lizard with insectoid features. Most of its body is black or very dark red, save for its claws, spikes, and its twisted, skull-like head. Its red flesh and an exposed ribcage on its underside contribute to its visceral appearance. Multiple yellow-orange eyes are scattered over its head, and its tripartite jaws are lined with jagged, tooth-like protrusions. It has six limbs: two are spike-lined tentacles that serve as its main means of locomotion and physical combat, while the other four have distinctive joints and four hooked claws on their ends. In its original state, Z-57 has a black shell on its backside and a hooked stinger-like tail.

Experiment No. Z-57 has notable physical similarities to Corpius , with a very similar head and a similarly exposed ribcage, but their exact relation is unknown. Considering its name and the Chozo Archives , it is presumably one of the Mawkin tribe's artificial bioweapon experiments instead of a natural bioform . Its shell, tail, and red flesh are also similar to that of Chozo Base Asset 04 , another specimen of the Dairon laboratory, which seems to imply a connection between the two experimental creatures. [1]

When infected by a Core-X , Experiment No. Z-57's features are dramatically altered to make it much larger and more monstrous, although it retains the same basic characteristics. Its shell is gone, exposing even more visceral flesh with several long spikes dotted around its body and what appears to be a long tail, which it may use for propulsion or support when moving. Its six limbs are considerably elongated, with its clawed limbs able to be folded against Z-57's body when unneeded; their positions have also shifted in a way that it seems to lack any hind limbs. Furthermore, the thermal generator's room is caked with more flesh that appears to be an extension of Z-57's form, as evidenced by its disintegration following the creature's defeat.

Biography [ ]

MD Dairon Z-57 Lights On

Experiment No. Z-57 in Dairon

An image in the Chozo Archives indicates that Quiet Robe had been directly involved in the experiments that created Experiment No. Z-57, most likely under Raven Beak 's orders. Z-57 is first seen being experimented on in the background of a blacked-out room in Dairon ; it can be seen in greater detail once Samus Aran turns the power back on. While the machinery operating on Z-57 still appears to be partially functional, the experiment remains unresponsive save for occasional twitching and does not react to Samus's presence.

Later in the game, after the X Parasites are released from Elun , Experiment No. Z-57's body vanishes from its room in Dairon. It is revealed to have been infected by an X before heading to Cataris , disabling the thermal generator in an effort to freeze the entirety of ZDR . Using her Gravity Suit to endure the sub-zero temperatures , Samus makes her way to the generator, finding it covered in strange slime that prevents its parts from moving. Moments later, Z-57 appears from above the generator and attacks her.

Upon its defeat, Experiment No. Z-57 collapses on the edge of the main platform, allowing Samus to force it off with several charged Arm Cannon shots. The monstrosity pulls itself up long enough to grab Samus in its claw, intent on dragging her with it; instead, Samus shoots it in the mouth once more, leaving it to plunge off the edge alone. Z-57 briefly reverts to its Core-X form before sinking in the lava below; Samus pulls herself up the ledge to see its slime disintegrate from the generator, allowing it to resume functioning.

Experiment No

Z-57 swiping at Samus with one arm.

Samus must shoot at Experiment No. Z-57's head to damage it, which is made more difficult by the boss being the only foe in the game who can briefly retreat into the background during certain moves. It attacks by sweeping the room with a beam of pink plasma; Samus must wait for it to pause in its sweep and jump to the other side of the room before it resumes firing, being careful not to touch the residue left in seemingly random patches in the beam's wake. The beam can be fired in two different configurations: it can go from the opposite side of the screen and cover almost all of it before stopping, or it can be stopped early and be resumed again shortly afterwards to blast the remaining section. As such, Samus will have to watch when the beam dies down to make her escape. It also swings its tentacles at Samus, once from one side and then from the other, requiring her to stay in the air near the opposite corner of the room from where the swipe is coming from. During this move, it cannot take damage.

After being shot in the head several times, Experiment Z-57 will slam a tentacle on one side of the room and fire a beam along the ceiling and the opposite wall, forcing Samus to move near its head to avoid damage. Should she dodge the laser, the creature will attempt a bite which can be Melee Countered to make Z-57 vulnerable; hitting it during this point will initiate a Grab Sequence that gives Samus an opportunity to scale across its tentacle and mount its head, forcing it to retreat to the thermal generator and rampage around it in an attempt to shake her off, as Samus fires all the while. After a full loop of the device, Z-57 throws Samus off of its head; she uses her thrusters to land safely back in the battlefield as the boss leaps back to re-engage.

As its health dwindles, Experiment No. Z-57 will enter its second phase and use new attacks. It can grab the walls and ceiling with its auxiliary limbs, bracing itself for a targeted energy blast while slowly restoring its health. [2] A blue reticle will follow Samus around for the full move, and should she stay in it for too long, Z-57 will fire a ball of energy towards her (it is still slow enough to be dodged even after the move successfully aims at Samus), and the attack can be interrupted by shooting the limbs (preferably with the Storm Missile ), destroying them permanently and preventing it from using the attack for the rest of the battle; if Samus acquires the Screw Attack early via Sequence Breaking , it can also be used to destroy Z-57's claws. After its two tentacle sweeps, it will also perform a double swipe with both of its tentacles along the upper parts of the ceiling before covering much of the ground floor, forcing Samus to time a jump in the center of the arena to avoid damage. Its most elaborate attack fires its beam at the right wall, activating powerful fans that blow powerful wind at Samus, forcing her to run to stay in place, and fires waves of crescent-shaped projectiles at Samus; she must jump through gaps in the waves to avoid being pushed into the damaging residue that appears on the left wall. The pattern of fired shots is the same every time. Z-57 is left winded after this attack, allowing Samus to get some free shots in before the fans die down; alternatively, she can prepare a Shinespark , which can instantly defeat the creature if she can hit its head. [2] If Samus Shinesparks underneath the Experiment, the camera will zoom in on her. [3]

Development notes [ ]

Experiment No. Z-57 is referred to as Cooldown-X in the game's files, referring to its role in causing the rapid cooling of ZDR.

  • Experiment No. Z-57 was first seen at the end of the Overview Trailer , and was seen again in greater detail in the third Japanese commercial .

Battlefield 2042 Official Reveal Trailer

Black myth: wukong - how to beat yin tiger (iron-tough armor), civilization fans aren't happy about city conquering change in civ 7.

Few of the bosses in Metroid Dread are able to make players feel quite as helpless as Experiment No. Z-57. This huge X-Parasite-infested creature has attacks that can cover more than half of the screen at its disposal and is capable of shredding through Samus' health bar in a matter of seconds if players aren't careful.

RELATED: Metroid Dread: How to Beat the Escue Boss in Ferenia

In order to overcome this monstrous beast, Metroid Dread players will need to learn how to read its attacks and know where exactly they need to move to in order to avoid taking damage. They'll also have to figure out how to squeeze in some attacks of their own, being sure to target the boss' head whenever they're able to do so.

Updated December 4, 2021 by Tom Bowen: As a franchise, Metroid has always done an excellent job of rewarding those who seek to fully explore its games. This can often come in the form of easter eggs, or, in many cases, an easier method of taking down an otherwise powerful enemy. Knowing the series' history with such secrets, it didn't take Metroid Dread players too long to figure out that — with a little precision — it's possible to insta-kill the Experiment No. Z-57 boss during the second phase of the fight. This guide has been updated to explain how exactly players can pull this off.

Where to Find Experiment No. Z-57

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-01-map

The fight with Experiment No. Z-57 takes place in the southeast portion of Cataris after the Artaria region has frozen over. To reach the boss, players will need to head to a room that has three exits on its left side, one of which is a locked thermal door at the bottom. By passing through the boss door at the top of this room, they'll find a Morph Ball launcher in the following area which will take them straight to the boss.

How to Beat Experiment No. Z-57 (Phase 1)

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-02-boss-intro

Experiment No. Z-57 usually begins the fight with a swipe attack that covers more than half of the screen. These always come in pairs, with the boss attacking diagonally from one of the top corners to the opposite bottom corner and then switching sides for a second swipe. It will sometimes use this attack twice in a row (four swipes), though this is incredibly rare.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-03-swipe-attack

Whether the boss attacks from right to left or left to right first appears to be completely random, though players can get an idea of what the boss is planning by focusing on the position of its claws. Before attacking, it will raise one of them into the corner from which the first swipe will start, which should give players enough time to react. From here, it's a case of jumping into the opposite top corner and then immediately flash shifting over to the other side.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-04-pink-laser

The most common attack that players will see during phase one is a red laser beam fired directly from the boss' mouth. This will go from side to side, leaving behind a pink substance that will erode Samus' health bar when touched. There'll always be a spot that doesn't have this substance though, and players should use Flash Shift to reach it in the brief windows when the boss stops firing.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-05-counter-opp

The final phase one attack that players should look out for involves the boss moving its body to one side of the screen and then shooting the red laser in a circular motion. When this happens, players should get beneath the boss' head while being sure not to make contact with it. Immediately after the laser ends, there'll be a brief counter window that players should aim to exploit by pressinf the X button.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-06-counter

It's possible to damage the boss' head using rockets and charged shots during this phase, both before and during each of its red laser attacks. Players will deal considerably more damage when countering, however, so this should be their main priority. It's also worth noting that after the swipe attack finishes, the boss will stick its head forward a little, so players should avoid jumping or flash-shifting into the center of the screen immediately after the second swipe.

How to Beat Experiment No. Z-57 (Phase 2)

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-07-storm-missile

After dealing enough damage, the second phase of the fight will begin. At this point, the boss starts using two brand new attacks, one of which sees it grab onto the walls with all four of its tentacles. When this happens, players should charge the Storm Missile by holding the R button and then fire on all of the tentacles once they've been targetted.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-08-pink-wave-attack

Another new attack sees the boss moving to the right side of the screen and firing waves of pink projectiles over to the left. The resulting waves push Samus back, so players will need to constantly run to their right while using the space jump to pass through the gaps in the projectiles. It's a little tricky to master, but does get easier with a little practice.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-09-upgraded-swipe-attack

Though not technically a new attack, the boss' swipes also receive an upgrade during the second phase of the fight. Now, after the second swipe, the boss will perform a third one which uses both tentacles at once. This leaves only a small spot in the center of the screen in which players can avoid taking damage.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-10-end-of-fight

Unfortunately, countering a second time during the fight will only provide players with missiles and health rather than another extended opportunity to attack. That said, if players exploited the counter opportunity in the first phase and are able to get in the occasional missile shot during the second, they shouldn't have too much trouble seeing the fight out.

The Reward for Beating Experiment No. Z-57

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-11-screw-attack-1

Though players won't get a reward immediately after defeating Experiment No. Z-57, doing so will directly lead to them getting one of the best pieces of equipment in the game. With the boss defeated, they'll be able to return to Artaria and travel to the now unfrozen area in the southwestern portion of the map.

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-boss-guide-cataris-12-screw-attack-2

Here, in a ball that's being held by a Chozo statue, players will find the Screw Attack. This allows them to destroy certain blocks and damage enemies by jumping into them, making map traversal considerably easier from here on out. As a result, this is a great time for players to hunt down any Energy Tanks or missile capacity upgrades they may have missed so far.

How to Insta-Kill Experiment No. Z-57

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-insta-kill-1

Much as they did with the Kraid fight a little earlier on in the game , the developers of Metroid Dread programmed in a few secrets when working on the showdown with Experiment No. Z-57. The most notable of these allows players to kill the boss instantly, though pulling it off can be a little tricky due to some of the precise inputs required and the speed at which players will need to react. With a little bit of practice though, it can be done fairly consistently.

metroid dread experiment no z 57 insta kill

During the second phase of the fight when the boss starts firing pink projectiles from right to left, it's possible for players to activate the Speed Booster if they're able to avoid getting hit. To do so, they'll need to press the left analog stick in and ensure that they're always moving to the right. They'll also have to successfully jump between the projectiles whenever needed until the Speed Booster triggers

metroid-dread-experiment-no-z-57-insta-kill-3

Once it does, players should flick the left analog stick down to store the momentum and then wait for the boss' attack to end. As soon as it does, players should jump up to around the height of the boss' head and then unleash a Shinespark by holding the B button and pointing the left analog stick to the right. If successful, Samus will fly across the screen and hit the boss in the head, instantly triggering the end of fight cut-scene

10 Most Unfairly Hated Party Members In RPGs

Valve is technically breaking its own rules with deadlock's steam page, black myth: wukong - 8 best armor sets, quick links, where is experiment no. z-57, what upgrades should you have, how to beat experiment no. z-57 phase 1:, how to beat experiment no. z-57 phase 2:.

One of the cooler visual moments in a run of Metroid Dread is when Samus explores the medical facility on ZDR and comes across a room with an enormous dead alien in it. Some of the medical machines are still operational, and they deliver the occasional shock to the giant corpse. Samus runs across the screen but thankfully the alien does not attack – it is well and truly dead.

Later, once the jelloid Xs have flooded the entirety of ZDR, this same dead space alien seems to have mysteriously disappeared. This might seem like the kind of cool detail that will have nothing else to do with the plot of the game, but when this X-animated alien next crosses Samus’ path it’s as a tricky boss that cannot be ignored – the Experiment No. Z-57.

RELATED: Metroid Dread: How To Beat Escue

Z-57 looks a lot like the early-game boss Corpius; there are even some theories that Z-57 is a dead Corpius being controlled by an X. Whatever it might be, Z-57 is certainly a tough boss that relies on quick reactions and keen powers of observation. Hopefully, you were the type to notice on the first pass that the dead alien in the facility went missing.

Metroid Dread Map To Experiment No. Z-57

Experiment No. 57 is located in Cataris, close to the elevator from Artaria. This boss can only be accessed in this area after ADAM informs Samus that something is cooling the core temperature of the planet ZDR. That something is Z-57.

Metroid Dread Boss Door To Experiment No. Z-57

Z-57 is accessed through a Boss Door located just outside its room. Approach this squirming space bug door and use Melee Counter by pressing X when you see the flash. If you miss the chance to counter, just fire a few missiles at it once it has attacked Samus.

Metroid Dread Morph Ball Tube To Experiment No. Z-57

Once you’re past the Boss Door you will find yourself in a room with a Morph Ball Launcher Tube at the top left. Take this launcher into the boss arena, where the fight against Z-57 will begin after a cool cutscene.

Metroid Dread Samus Suit Upgrades For Experiment No. Z-57

Samus should have a ton of upgrades, as well as the Gravity Suit at this point:

  • Plasma Beam
  • Diffusion Beam
  • Grapple Beam
  • Ice Missile
  • Storm Missile
  • Phantom Cloak
  • Flash Shift
  • Pulse Radar
  • Spider Magnet
  • Speed Booster

The most useful upgrades for this battle are the Space Jump , Flash Shift , Ice Missile, and Storm Missile . Make sure you’ve mastered your Space Jump timing and are comfortable holding down R.

RELATED: How Long Does It Take To Beat Metroid Dread?

Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Attacking in Phase 1

Z-57 is impervious to Samus’ normal attacks. Only missiles and Charge Beam Shots do any damage to this boss, so manage your ammo wisely. Take advantage of any Melee Counter chances, since they will replenish Samus’ ammo. Z-57 telegraphs all its attacks extremely well. Although the speed of the battle might seem daunting, the real difficulty of this fight lies in puzzling out your safe zones. Having a good command of how far and how high Samus’ jumps will take her will help you lots against this baddie.

Move

Description

How To Counter/Avoid

Floor Goo Blast

Z-57 will send a blast of damaging pink goo from its mouth to cover the ground completely while moving from one side to the other horizontally. It will pause once to take a breath at some point.

Z-57 always leaves one patch of floor empty of goo; when it stops to take a breath, jump and use or to pass underneath it and land in the goo-free space on the floor.

Double Slice

Z-57 will swipe at Samus across the whole room in a curving diagonal line with both scythe-looking arms, one after the other. It will lean to the side and raise its arm to indicate that this attack is imminent.

Then Space Jump to the opposite side of the room, as Z-57 will always slice once to each side.

Side Goo Blast

Z-57 will drop to the floor on one side of the room and spray the opposite wall with damaging goo from top to bottom.

To avoid this goo, Samus will need to stand nearly underneath Z-57's mouth. Successfully executing a Melee Counter will cause Z-57 to release a number of ammo recharges which Samus will likely need, as only missiles cause any damage to this boss.

Nail Z-57 with a barrage of Ice Missiles instead.

Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Attacking in Phase 2

Phase 2 features the same Goo attacks from Phase 1, plus an updated swipe attack and a couple of entirely new ones to watch out for:

Move

Description

How To Counter/Avoid

Triple Slice

Z-57 will perform his Double Slice move from Phase 1 and follow it up with a third swipe of both claws simultaneously, leaving only a small safe area in the center top of the screen around its head.

You will have to land on the ground during its wind-up to dodge Z-57's claws, and then Space Jump up to the middle-top of the screen when it swipes.

Wall Grab

Z-57 will grab the wall with four claws and hover above Samus. It will send out a pink ball of electricity which will track Samus and explode if she stands in one place too long.

As soon as you see Z-57 start this move, start charging up your Storm Missiles Make sure to keep moving while you do this, or get it done quickly so the pink energy ball doesn't explode and damage Samus. If you pull off this tricky move, Z-57 will release a number of ammo units to restock Samus' missiles.

Breath

Z-57 will take a deep breath and exhale into the wall to the right of the screen. The fans along the right wall will start to blow, pushing Samus to the left. Columns of pink damaging goo will start to blow out of the fans and across the screen from right to left. They will stick to the left wall, where they will continue to do damage to Samus when touched.

Samus will need to constantly be running to the right to avoid hitting the damaging goo that will land on the left wall. She will also need to jump over the traveling columns of damaging goo coming out of the fans. When the column is , a single jump should get Samus clear of danger, but when the column is , it requires a double jump (Space Jump) to clear it. Z-57 uses the same pattern for the height of these columns each time it uses this attack:

Once you beat Z-57 the thermal system of the planet will resume functioning, allowing Samus to access many more areas again. That is sadly the only reward you will get from this battle, apart from the knowledge that you have conquered one of the trickier bosses in the game.

Clever Zelda: TOTK Build Solves The Most Annoying Exploration Problem

How to get refined iron sand in black myth: wukong, today's connections hints & answers for august 30, 2024 (puzzle #445).

Metroid Dread includes a few powerful bosses, like Experiment No. Z-57, with multi-phase fights that require players to develop strategic fighting styles. Experiment No. Z-57 uses a variety of attacks that Samus will need to dodge, then time counterstrikes in between. Defeating this boss can be difficult, but there are a few tips and tricks players can use to help ensure victory.

Players can find Experiment No. Z-57 in Cataris, blocking a thermal power plant. Cataris is the second location in  Metroid Dread that Samus can explore. This area also introduces the E.M.M.I., a hostile robot that hunts Samus, as well as different hazards for players to navigate or avoid. As Samus moves through the Cataris region, she will encounter and face off against Experiment No. Z-57.

Cataris is a large area in  Metroid Dread with a few different thermal power plants that Samus needs to reroute. After parts of Artaria and Cataris are frozen, and players acquire the Gravity Suit, Experiment No. Z-57 can be found and defeated. The boss is located in the south-southeast part of Cataris, and it is the cause of the freeze that spreads through the region, so players will need to defeat it to move on.

How to Defeat Experiment No. Z-57 in Metroid Dread

A warrior battles a monster in Metroid Dread

Metroid Dread 's dreadfully excellent atmosphere is enhanced by daunting enemies like Experiment No. Z-57. This boss has a variety of attacks, including melee claw swipes, laser blasts, missiles, laser waves, that require well-timed jumps, and a chomp attack that players can counter. With the exception of the chomp attack, Experiment No. Z-57's attacks can be dodged by jumping at the right time and avoiding the arc or affected area of its attacks.

Samus will need to dodge the boss' attacks while also refraining from touching the sides or the ceiling; otherwise, she will take damage. Players should aim to hit Experiment No. Z-57's head with rockets as often as possible to quickly do a lot of damage, as that is a weak point. They can use Storm Missiles when the boss attaches its arms to the ceiling in order to knock them off.

Once the boss falls to the ground and shoots a beam, Samus should quickly get to its head to parry, then continuously launch rockets at its head. This will need to be done three times before the enemy is defeated.

Experiment No. Z-57 Boss Tips

Unleash a Barrage of Storm Missiles

When you have the chance to be on steady footing, lock on as many Storm Missiles as you can onto Z-57's head. This gives you the chance to deal the most damage and still allows Samus to dodge around.

Space Jump to Avoid the Sweeping Slashes

In the latter phase of the battle, it will also attempt slashes with two arms at a time. In these cases, jump towards the upper middle part of the screen to evade its attack.

Jump to Dodge Laser Blasts

Melee counter when it goes in for a chomp, shoot its arms away with storm missiles, time your space jumps to avoid the energy shockwaves while running.

This move will be tricky at first, but with proper timing you will be able to dodge all the shockwaves. It's good to keep in mind that Samus can leap over up to two beams in a single jump . Three or four beams will require a Spin Boost!

Pro Tip: Use Shinespark to Deal a Fatal Blow

You will have to take the hit from the 10th wave afterward, but after dodging or getting hit by the 11th wave, jump up and release your shinespark towards Z-57's head for an instant win.

Speedrun Guide: Sequence Breaks and Fastest Route

Experiment No. Z-57 Attack Patterns

Melee attacks, sweep slash, forward chomp - melee counter sequence.

Succesfully doing so recovers Missiles and Energy while also offering a sequence for you to continuously blast Z-57 with Missiles.

Double Sweep Slash

Laser attacks, two-part laser, sideway laser blast, targeted laser blast.

Four of Z-57's arms will grab onto different sides of the room while he charges a large laser. Keep moving to avoid the laser locking onto your position. You can then use the Storm Missile or the Ice Missiles to lock onto all the arms to shoot his grip off.

After you obtain the Storm Missile ability in Ferenia, you return to Ghavoran.

Return to Burenia

Get a missile tank, get an energy tank, get an item sphere, return to artaria, chozo soldier, get a second missile tank, get an energy part, get a third missile tank, return to cataris, go through the area, return to artaria again.

Go through the door above the Total Recharge Station, and roll through the tunnel there, using bombs to get rid of the blocks in the way. At the end of the tunnel, fall into the water, then Space Jump to the right to reach the ledge on the right. Roll through the tunnel and you will see a Missile Tank on the right, but you will fall through Pitfall Blocks before you can get it. You will land in front of a Teleportal. Use it to go back to Burenia.

Go to the left, shoot the door, then open it and go through. Go to the left and land in the water, then go to the right and land on the ledge on the right side. Space Jump to the left and land on the ledge there, then Space Jump left and downward to reach the platform below that has (or had) a Missile+ Tank on it. Use the Grapple Beam from there to pull yourself to the blue wall above and to the left. This will reveal a door. Since you can't reach it from here, Space Jump to the right side of the room. If you end up below the ledge that leads to a door on the right, go up and roll through the tunnel below that door, then go to the right, then jump up onto the ledge above the tunnel that you came through, and go through the door on the left. Then, from the ledge with the door, Space Jump to the left to reach the door on the left that you revealed. Open it and go through.

You can use the Energy Recharge Station if you wish. Then go back toward the door on the right, and bomb the floor to the left of the door and fall into the tunnel that appears, then go to the right and use a bomb to break a hole below you. Roll to the left to get the Missile Tank.

Go left from the Missile Tank to fall below. Keep going downward, and a floating creature will appear to the left of the door at the bottom. Use a Melee Counter when you see the flash, then shoot the creature to kill it. Then go through the door on the right.

Go to the right, and when you begin floating downward, Space Jump to the left to reach a corridor on the left with a door at the end. Go through the door.

Make your way upward, then go through the door on the left if you wish to save the game, then leave the save room, and jump over the gap and go through the door on the right.

Go to the right and go down below, and shoot the red thing in the wall. Then stand on the right side of the ledge, and use the Grapple Beam on the Grapple Beam Block across from you. Pull it to destroy it, then wait for floating creatures to come out of it, shoot them, then Space Jump to the tunnel and roll through it. If the creatures knocked you down, Space Jump to the left and go through the door, then go upward and go through the door on the right, where you can try again.

From the tunnel where the Grapple Beam Block was, go downward and go through the door at the end. Kill the electric creature on the right, then charge up missiles and use the aiming laser to lock onto the green dots in the ceiling, to destroy the Storm Missile Box. Use the Grapple Beam on the top of the blue wall on the right, then Flash Shift to the left to reach the Energy Tank.

Then go to the right and make your way downward. Kill the creature there, then shoot the wall on the left if you didn't already break open a tunnel in it when you shot the electric creature, shoot the floating creatures that come out of the tunnel, then roll through the tunnel.

In the next room, drop down below, being careful to avoid the large creature in the area and the toxic area it creates beneath it, and go to the right until you reach the next room. Use Storm Missiles to kill the creatures here, then go to the right and roll through the tunnel at the end.

In the next room, shoot a charged shot at the red thing in the wall above you. When it has been destroyed, go back through the tunnel, then jump up into the tunnel above the one that you just came out of, be careful of the floating creatures, and go through the door at the end.

Go to the right until you reach the bottom of the area, then go up the ledges on the right, using Storm Missiles on the electric creature. From the ledge on the right, Space Jump to the left to reach the ledge there. Jump up and out of the water, then go to the right and go through the door there.

Kill or freeze the wall creature up above, then Space Jump upward and kill or freeze the ceiling creature. Use Phantom Cloak to go through the door at the top.

Go to the left and kill the floating creatures, then get in the water and go to the left edge of the platform. Kill the floating creatures that come toward you, then Space Jump to the left, to reach a ledge with a tunnel above it. Go up through the tunnel. Kill the floating creatures in the room at the top, then shoot the red thing in the wall. When another red thing appears, shoot it as well, then shoot a charged shot to hit the next red thing. Finally, use the Grapple Beam to pull the Grapple Beam Block across from you.

Roll through the tunnel on the right, and go to the bottom of the room. Then go up the ledges on the left, then go left and shoot a missile at the door, then open it and go through.

Go to the statue and shoot the item sphere, then jump onto the item to get the Gravity Suit. You will no longer move slowly in water, and you can safely enter lava, and areas of extreme cold. It increases your defense, and increases the damage inflicted by Dash Melee.

Go through the door on the right. Space Jump upward through the water until you are above water. There is a Missile+ Tank above, but you can't get it yet. Kill or ignore the creature coming out of the floor (Storm Missiles are helpful against it), then go through the door on the right. You will get a briefing and can save the game.

From the save room, go through the door on the right. You can't get the Missile Tank here yet, so just go to the right and get into the elevator to return to Artaria. There will be a cutscene.

Shoot a missile at the door on the right, then go through. If you Space Jump to the right, you can get a Missile Tank. Then go to the left and the platform will rotate. If you didn't get the Missile Tank to the right of the platform that rotated, you can Space Jump back upward to get it now. Then go to the left from where the Missile Tank was, and fall down below. Use the Total Recharge Station if you wish, then go to the right to land on the ice, and roll through the tunnel on the left. Kill or freeze the wall creature and Space Jump up and to the left, then go down the left side. Go to the right and slide through the tunnel, then go to the right and roll through the tunnel there. At the end, Space Jump up to the door at the upper right. Go through.

Shoot the door on the right and go through, then shoot a charged shot at the ceiling to destroy the red thing and rotate a platform. Jump up to the top, then go to the right and fall down the tunnel. You will fall through some Pitfall Blocks at the end and face off against another Chozo Soldier.

This one has a shield. Use Storm Missiles on it. Otherwise, dodge its attacks like before. It may put its shield down and then flash, allowing you to do a Melee Counter. Eventually it will change form. This time, if it jumps onto the wall, be prepared to Space Jump because it will spit a large stream of black stuff at you for several moments. It can also jump downward onto the floor and create two black waves that you need to avoid touching. Continue using Storm Missiles and hitting it, and eventually the camera angle will change and it will reach back its spear. When it flashes, perform a Melee Counter, then when it flashes again, perform another Melee Counter to defeat it.

After the battle, you can optionally go through the door on the left and Space Jump to the top of the room to get a Missile Tank. Afterward, go back down to the bottom of the room and go through the door on the right to return to the room where you fought the Chozo Soldier.

From the room where you fought the Chozo Soldier, go through the door on the right. Go downward and get the Energy Part. Then go to the left to drop down from the ledge where the Energy Part was, to reach the lower area of the room. Go to the right from there until you reach a door. Go through.

Go upward, then go to the right and go through the door there. Then keep going to the right to reach the next room. Go to the right, use the Energy Recharge Station if you wish, then go through the door on the right.

Go to the right side of the room, using Storm Missiles on the creatures along the way. Roll through the tunnel at the end. From the Ammo Recharge Station, jump up to the ledge on the right, shoot the missile block with a missile, slide through the gap, shoot the beam block, slide through the gap, then slide through the next gap and go through the door on the right. Step on the glowing panel on the floor to get a briefing and save your game.

Go through the door on the right, then go right and slide through the gap, then Space Jump to the top left of the room, where there is a Missile Tank. Take it, then use a bomb at the base of the wall beneath where it was, and roll through the tunnel. Space Jump upward from there and go through the door at the upper left.

Go upward past a wall creature and a flying creature, go through the door at the upper right of the room. Keep going to the right, and slide through the gap at the end, then go to the right and go upward. There is no need to use Phantom Cloak to get through this door; it's frozen, so just go through it.

Go to the left, then go upward when you can. Go through the door at the upper right of the area. Go to the right, then upward to the door at the upper right, and Speed Boost through. Shoot the door at the end and go through it.

In the next room, go down to the bottom, then go through the door on the right. In the next room, Space Jump to the upper right and go through the door there. In the next room, Space Jump upward to reach the elevator to Cataris.

Shoot through the walls on the left, then go to the leftmost side. Go downward through this room. You can optionally go through the door on the left to save. Leave the save room and go down to the bottom of the area. Shoot charged shots at the red thing in the wall (if there is one), then get the Missile Tank (if you didn't before), then roll through the tunnel there, and roll through the tunnel to the left of that to go to the next room.

You can use the Total Recharge Station if you wish. Then go upward, then to the left to find an eyeball monster on a door. Kill the monster, then go through the door, then go to the left and up to find a Morph Ball Launcher. Roll into it and drop a bomb to activate it. There will be a cutscene.

When the enemy reaches an arm up to the upper corner of the room, Space Jump at the top middle of the room until it has finished swiping both arms across the bottom and sides of the area.

It will spit a pink beam at the floor. The pink goo on the floor will damage you if you step on it, but there will always be one place with no pink goo, so Space Jump (but be sure not to touch its arms) until you can land on the safe spot, while also avoiding the stream of pink goo that it is spitting out.

It will go to one side of the room and shoot a stream of pink goo in an arc from the top of the room to the bottom. Stand near its face to avoid getting hit by it, but be prepared to perform a Melee Counter when it flashes after it finishes spitting goo. If you do this successfully, shoot missiles or charged shots continuously until you are back in the room. Continue the battle as before.

Eventually, it will drop some ammo/health, then it will put its four hands on the walls/ceiling. Target them with Storm Missiles and destroy them before the enemy can shoot a beam at you.

When the boss goes to the right and appears to be charging up an attack, you will need to space jump over a series of beams that come from the right side of the room, while powerful fans are pushing you toward the toxic goo on the left wall. There will be gaps in the beams that you can Space Jump through. Afterward, the fans will get stronger, so Speed Boost to the right to avoid getting pushed into the wall of goo on the left. It is possible, but difficult, to ready a Shinespark at this time, then jump up, shoot at the boss so you are horizontally in line with it, then press B and Shinespark at the boss's head.

If it reaches both arms across its face, Space Jump to the upper middle of the room to avoid when it swipes both arms along the walls and floor, then quickly go to the left or right to avoid its head.

Eventually, there will be a cutscene where you shoot charged shots at it, and the battle ends.

Go to the right and drop down to the area below, then go to the right until you can go upward. Near the top of the area, go through the door just below the upper right door, then go to the right and downward to a Total Recharge Station. Then go upward and roll through the tunnel in the wall on the right. Go to the right through the next tunnel, then go upward. You can go through the door on the left to save, then from the save room, go through the door on the right, then continue going upward through this room. At the top, go to the right while shooting your beam. Ignore the elevator and go through the door on the right. Make your way upward, then go to the upper right and go through the door there.

Get in the lava and slide through the tunnels to reach the bottom. Then go to the right and Space Jump upward to the Teleportal above. Use it and it will take you to Artaria .

Metroid Dread How to beat Experiment Z-57 boss quickly insta-kill

Metroid Dread: How to beat Experiment No. Z-57 quickly

By Jason Faulkner

Beating Experiment No. Z-57 in Cataris is one of the more challenging boss fights in Metroid Dread . It has wide area attacks, and it’s easy to get trapped and die. However, there are a few strategies that players can use against Experiment No. Z-57, including an insta-kill ( like with Kraid ), but we’ll cover the technique we used to beat this boss quickly.

What’s the easiest way to beat the Experiment No. Z-57 boss in Metroid Dread?

Metroid Dread beat Experiment Z-57 boss 2

Like the other bosses in Metroid Dread, the boss fight with Experiment No. Z-57 has multiple stages. While Samus can get an insta-kill on Z-57 in the second phase of the fight (which we’ll cover further down the page), it’s very tough to pull off. Fortunately, there’s a safer and easier way to beat this boss.

During the first phase of this boss fight, Z-57 will perform three attack patterns. It typically starts with a swipe to the left, then a swipe to the right, which covers the entire floor area. This isn’t too hard to avoid by just jumping at the right time. The second attack begins with Z-57 firing a beam starting in the corner furthest from Samus and raking the ground. The monster will pause for a moment before resuming its attack, and players need to dodge the damaging radiation it left behind and jump into the small clear area to remain safe.

Metroid Dread beat Experiment Z-57 boss 1

The third attack, and the one we’re most concerned with, has Z-57 moving to one side of the screen. It’ll then fire a beam that rakes from the opposite ceiling to the ground just in front of it. To avoid this, players need to get roughly under its head. Fortunately, this is a great opportunity to pelt its face with missiles. Now, for the part that makes this fight easy. When it finishes this attack, if it hasn’t hit Samus with the beam, it’ll try and charge her. When the telltale flash comes up, players can counter this and Samus will latch onto Z-57. During the cutscene, players can pelt the boss with ten or so missiles.

Once players do enough damage, Z-57 will attach itself to the ceiling and begin charging up an attack. To prevent this, players should charge the Storm Missiles (while dodging around) and blast its limbs. This will prevent it from firing and start the next phase of the battle.

Metroid Dread beat Experiment Z-57 boss 4

In its most annoying attack, Z-57 will move to the right side of the stream and start a wind current. This will blow Samus against the left wall, which is coated in a damaging acid. Shortly after, It’ll begin shooting energy blasts that players will have to hurdle over to avoid. The key here is to remain calm and take the energy shockwaves as they come. Some just require a single jump, while others will require a double jump .

After this phase, Z-57 will get mad and roar around a bit. Players can sit and nail it with missiles freely while it’s doing this. Afterward, the boss will go for a left and right slash, which is usually followed by a double slash that covers most of the room. The only way to avoid this attack is to double jump up in the middle of the room. However, be careful not to jump into the boss’s head, or Samus will still take damage.

This fight is easy if players concentrate on avoiding damage. Keep on the defense and wait for opportunities to score free hits. The best time to do this is during its sideways beam attack that ends in a charge that can be countered. Samus gets a chance to do major damage with impunity here, so there’s no sense in taking unnecessary risks.

Experiment Z-57 doesn’t need to be beaten in any particular phase of the fight, so players just need to concentrate on surviving. However, those that are bold can take this boss down even quicker with a difficult-to-perform insta-kill.

How to insta-kill Experiment Z-57

Metroid Dread beat Experiment Z-57 boss 3

There is a way to instantly end the fight with Experiment Z-57 during the wind phase. However, it does require impeccable timing and skill with the Speed Boost/Shinespark.

To perform the instant kill, players needs to activate the Speed Booster and store a Shinespark. The moment they stop firing, the boss hangs its head in the arena for just a few seconds, and during this time, players must jump in the air and unleash the Shinespark at it. If performed correctly, its death cutscene will immediately play, and Samus can continue on her way.

PS5 Star Wars Outlaws Players are Facing a Game-Breaking Bug

10 hardest snes games, ranked, 10 best nes games, ranked.

Samus encounters Metroid Dread boss Experiment No. Z-57 in Cataris, formerly occupied by the Space Pirate Kraid , when she revisits the region. This mutant creature is to blame for the massive cooling problems that have prevented Samus from fully exploring recent areas. Once she defeats Z-57, Samus can return to the specified Artaria Network Station as requested by ADAM . With newfound access to areas previously blocked by ice, Samus can continue her extermination of the E.M.M.I. units that hunt her.

The fight against Experiment No. Z-57 will require a wide range of Samus' abilities, from her newly acquired space jump to the Storm Missiles she earned defeating Escue . The goal is to destroy all four of Z-57's secondary limbs while dealing as much damage to the head as possible. While the monster's moveset includes clear tells that cue the player to incoming attacks, it won't always be easy to evade them. Thankfully, Samus has opportunities to restore health and ammunition, should players sustain significant damage.

Breaking Down the Fight Against Experiment No. Z-57

Metroid Dread boss Experiment No. Z-57

Experiment No. Z-57 has a decent repertoire of attacks. The basic attacks consist of swiping at Samus with one of its primary limbs or shooting a beam from its mouth. The individual limb swipes cover roughly three-quarters of the screen at a diagonal. The double limb swipe, while rare, leaves open only a small section by Z-57's head.

Z-57 has two beam attacks. The first is intermittent and fires downward, leaving pink goo in its wake. When Z-57 jumps onto a wall, the beam will cover everywhere except a small section above or below Z-57's head. Players must avoid damage during this second beam section to trigger a move that Samus can counter. Successfully countering this attack will lead to a grab sequence.

The grab sequence allows Samus a chance to deal significant damage to Experiment No. Z-57. It also leads into an attack where Z-57 will unfurl its secondary limbs and latch them onto the sides of the room opening. This gives players a chance to destroy its secondary limbs, which in turn disrupts Z-57 from the attack it's charging.

RELATED:  Metroid: The Pathetic Tale of Kraid

The battle cycles through these moves with the addition of one more after Samus destroys a limb. Z-57 will cover one wall with pink goo and shoot crescent shaped beams from the other side. Players will need to use Samus's space jump while Speed Boosting to avoid these attacks.

Strategies to Defeat Experiment No. Z-57

Experiment No Z-57 shoots a beam attack in Metroid Dread.

Players can anticipate the limb swipes by noting when Experiment Z-57 removes its arms from their grip against the walls. Z-57 will not repeat the same side it just swiped from twice in a row, so players can safely use the space jump to go from the top left or right corner as necessary. In case of a double swipe, players will want to stay close to where Z-57's head is.

RELATED:  Every Metroid Game Ever, Ranked by Critics

When Experiment Z-57 fires the beam from the top of the screen, players need to wait for the first shot to end. The pink goo is generally spread out to perfectly accommodate a combined jump and Flash Shift, but players will need to gauge the distance in case Samus goes too far or not far enough. Players can then shoot at Z-57 while it finishes covering the rest of the room. When Z-57 fires the beam from the wall, players should be close to its head, as it cannot angle the beam down far enough to reach Samus from that point.

After the grab sequence, watch for Z-57 to grab onto the walls with its secondary limbs. Since Z-57 is charging an attack to fire at Samus, players will not be able to lock onto all four limbs with the Storm Missiles. Firing a barrage of Storm Missiles at one limb will destroy it and disrupt Z-57, leaving enough time to quickly charge a second barrage and destroy a second limb.

The toughest attacks to evade are the crescent beams from the Speed Boost section. The crescent beams are typically stacked two or three high, requiring Samus to maintain her space jump throughout the sequence. It's hard but not impossible to avoid all of the beams. In general, players can expect to take the most damage during this section, but any health lost here can be regained elsewhere in the battle.

Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Boss Guide

In this guide, we'll show you how to defeat the Metroid Dread Experiment Z-57 Boss by avoiding his attacks and through counterattacks

Metroid Dread Experiment Z-57 Boss

Experiment No. Z-57 in Metroid Dread is an enormous beast, a massive gigantic behemoth wrapped around a thermal power station in Cataris. In this Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Boss Guide, we’ll show you how to take down Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Boss.

Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Boss

You must defeat Metroid Dread Experiment No. Z-57 Boss since he is impeding your progress outside the thermal power station and must be dealt with before you can continue to restore heat to the world.

How to Defeat Experiment No. Z-57

Experiment No. Z-57 is, without a question, a lumbering behemoth, but with the right strategy, he will be brought down in no time.

Unlike the previous boss battles, this one is more about strategy than tanking and rushing. It all comes down to mobility, timing your attacks and keeping your health up a reasonable amount.

Here is how to quickly dispatch Experiment No. Z-57 in Metroid Dread. Simply follow these steps to victory.

How to Avoid Attacks

When the combat begins, Experiment Z-57 uses two predictable attacks that you can easily avoid if you apply the proper strategy.

To begin, he’ll use a pink laser to sweep all the way from left to right. Then he attacks you with his claws.

You will see both of these attacks coming, so all you have to do now is avoid them. For the laser, simply move to the other side and when you get to the end, jump and you’ll be fine.

He’ll attack with both claws, and the only way to avoid a hit is to stand in the center and jump. You’ll be hit if you’re not in the center.

Experiment Z-57 has another attack up its sleeves. It’s a patterned pink blast coming at you from the right.

To avoid this, the timing must be perfect. The rest is all about spin jumping. A strong wind blowing across the arena indicates that this attack is on its way.

How to Counter Attack

Now that you know how to avoid being hit, here’s how to launch a counter-attack that will bring down Experiment No. Z-57 for good. Experiment No. Z-57’s weak point is its head (face).

All you have to do is avoid its attacks and, when you see an opening, launch a counterattack on Experiment No. Z-57’s head. Afterward, repeat the procedure.

Experiment No. Z-57 will eventually fall to the ground, releasing another pink laser beam. When this happens, you must abandon your attack and rush to Experiment No. Z-57. To avoid being hit, stand below his face.

He’ll attack in the same manner as described above once he gets up. You must employ the same strategy, and when you knock him down for the third time, he won’t have the strength to get up.

When he is unable to get up and attack again, things come to an end. If you take advantage of this opportunity and drag him down into the lava, he’ll be gone for good. And the thermal power station’s doors will open, allowing you to proceed.

Metroid Dread: How to Insta-Kill Experiment Z-57 | Z-57 Quick Kill Guide

Metroid Dread’s bosses aren’t easy, and Experiment Z-57 can be a particular pain in the butt. Fortunately, there’s a way to take this mutant down much faster. Much like the Kraid Insta-Kill , you can also defeat Experiment Z-57 just as you enter the fight’s second phase. Speedrunners are going to love this shortcut.

The trick is difficult to pull off, so if you miss the window, be prepared to  defeat Experiment No. Z-57  the normal way. No matter what, you’ll have to get through its first phase, so be on the lookout for three key attacks.

The first is a pink beam that traces along the ground, leaving behind damaging goop. To avoid it, move to either side, then jump to the safe spot between the goop before the second beam fires up. The Experiment can also swipe both of its claws at you; dodge by jumping above the slash to the opposite side of the screen. Finally, it may crawl into the foreground and fire the pink beam at the ceiling, tracing all the way down to the floor. Get in close to avoid it, and if you take no damage, you’ll get a chance to execute a melee counter and deliver a flurry of gunfire as Samus rides the monster.

The Experiment starts phase two by planting all four of its appendages along the walls and ceiling. Use  Storm Missiles  or charged shots to knock them all away and enter the second phase. As the Experiment fires the beam at the right-hand wall, a wind current will pick up — it’s just about time to pull off the special killing blow. Dodge the energy patterns that move left, and once you’ve hurdled the last one, activate your  Speed Booster ability . When it’s charged, activate a  Shinespark , hop into the air, and launch Samus directly at the Experiment’s head. If done correctly, it’ll crumple to the ground in defeat, and you won’t have to fight through its full second phase. It’s also possible to try this trick at any later point in the fight when the Experiment uses the wind tunnel attack again.

Many bosses in Metroid Dread reward Samus with new powers, but this isn’t one of them. Defeating Experiment Z-57 thaws out Artaria and opens the path to the classic  Screw Attack . Plus, pulling off this special Shinespark call is its own kind of satisfying reward.

Metroid Dread After Getting The Gravity Suit & Defeat Experiment No Z-57

By Hikari in Nintendo Switch 11/10/2021

Metroid Dread is an action-adventure platform game developed by Nintendo , Mercury Steam , Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development. If you are stuck on where to go after getting the gravity suit and how to defeat Experiment No Z-57, check out the guide below to help you out.

Metroid Dread Where To Go After Getting Gravity Suit

After getting the gravity suit, you need to make your way towards the transport pod that will take you to the Cataris area. There you need to find your way towards the boss room Experiment No Z-57.

Experiment No Z-57 is a powerful X that is blocking the routing of thermal energy from Cataris. You need to visit Cataris and use the morph ball speed force to reach the boss area.

Metroid Dread How To Defeat Experiment No Z-57

Experiment No Z-57 has three types of attacks and an attack pattern that you need to remember and dodge. The first attack is the beam, he attacks twice with the beam on the floor. Once the first beam ends, quickly dash your way towards the one clear area on the floor and then use storm missiles. After that, you need to dodge its claw that will attack you twice, once from the left and the other from the right. You can use your space jump to avoid getting hit by the claw.

The second attack will be the beam from the left or right side, you need to stand close to its mouth to avoid the beam hitting you. Once the beam ends, there will be a flash and it will attack you with its head, you need to quickly use the counterattack to parry and deal damage while regaining some energy.

The third attack will be the wind gushing towards you from the right side. You need to keep the left analog towards the right side the whole time to not get close to the left side wall as it will be filled with poison. Keep doing single and double jumps to avoid the beams from the right side.

At one point in time, it will spread four legs around the room and tries to lock onto you to deal damage. You need to move around and use the storm missile to break its legs and obtain ammo and energy. Keep dodging all the abilities and use storm missiles to deal maximum damage and defeat Experiment No Z-57.

Note: Make sure you have at least 5-6 energy tanks and enough missile capacity to defeat the boss.

Experiment No. Z-57 - Can't Finish This Fight?

So for those of you who haven't finished the game yet, I think there's something about Z-57 that hasn't been written in a lot of boss guides.

I was fighting this one for over an hour, mostly because I couldn't finish it off rather than struggling with the phases. One of my fights had me hitting eight grab attack sequences and not able to finish the boss.

It appears that the phase where it's attached limbs to the wall and charging its laser is mandatory to knock the limbs off. You can't just avoid the laser. I don't know if it's a bug or if it's healing, but the first time I bothered to Swarm its legs off the walls, I beat it on the next grab attack and I was done in five minutes or less.

Most of the guides say that you can interrupt the attack, but they don't make sound necessary and the attack itself is easy enough to avoid where I didn't bother because I was conserving my missiles. So if you're trying to figure out why you're just dying to attrition in fifteen minute fights, that's why. Swarm the legs.
