Social Justice Research
Social Justice Research publishes original papers that have broad implications for social scientists investigating the origins, structures, and consequences of justice in human affairs.
The journal encompasses justice-related research work using traditional and novel approaches, and spanning the social sciences and beyond: psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, social policy research, political science, law, management science, and others.
This multidisciplinary approach advances the integration of diverse social science perspectives. In addition to original research papers - theoretical, empirical, and methodological - the journal publishes book reviews and, from time to time, special thematic issues.
Social Justice Research is the official journal of the International Society for Justice Research (ISJR).

The Concept of Social Justice
This research paper is an attempt to understand the different perspectives of social justice. It was found that all the theorists have overlapping views and but their contribution cannot be undermine as it forms the base of human rights and social policies framed all over the world. This paper also attempts to probe on the ancient sources of social justice and comparative analysis of the same in response to changes. Content analysis method was adopted to compare the various definitions and meanings to understand the concept in depth.

This work represents a brief critical analysis of the ongoing debate on the concept of Justice and the possibilities of achieving its goals. First, the article presents the idea of Justice as the supreme virtue. It then continues with the idea of freedom as the manifestation of the individual will. Next, it addresses the idea of equality - all humans are equal as personal worth and status - and then the idea of fraternity, which is reflected in the relational model and in social solidarity. The analysis makes use, on the one hand, of notions such as values, virtues, choices, obligations, voluntary work, etc., and on the other hand, it addresses the applicability criteria for such notions. The present article traces the development of the concept of social justice through different philosophical traditions. The notion and philosophy of 'Justice' is the core of socio-legal and political streams and ethics. The idea of justice is applied not just to individual engagements but to broader aspects such as public policies and laws of the land. Justice is often used in the context of 'righteousness' and as a 'virtue'. Still, it is not easy to define and completely clarify the concept of justice. We can analyse it by employing specific terms, which acquaint us with the best possible understanding of justice. A single definition would not suffice to fulfil our aim of the study. Therefore, in this essay, the author delineates how philosophers and thinkers have theorised 'Justice' throughout ancient, medieval and modern times.

Social justice is generally defined as the fair and equitable distribution of power, resources, responsibilities in society to all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, ability, sexual orientation and religious or spiritual background (Van den Bos 2003). The key principles underlying this definition include the values of inclusion, cooperation and solidarity, as well as equal access and equal opportunity. These values are also the foundation of a democratic and egalitarian society (Sue 2001). Therefore, the phenomenon of social justice should be available in all institutions of the society. However, educational institutions in particular, have a significant role in the establishment of social justice. When the education system does not offer equal opportunities and is privileged only for a certain group, it negatively affects a society both culturally and economically. The effort to achieve social justice in education also includes the effort to correct some inequalities in education. In this context, the aim of this research is to try to reveal the social justice/injustice experiences of social studies teacher candidates and to make predictions for social justice education based on these experiences.

Social justice is a crucial ideal in contemporary political thought. Yet the concept of social justice is a recent addition to our political vocabulary, and comparatively little is known about its introduction into political debate or its early theoretical trajectory. Some important research has begun to address this issue, adding a valuable historical perspective to present-day controversies about the concept. This article uses this literature to examine two questions. First, how does the modern idea of social justice differ from previous conceptualisations of justice? Second, why and when did social justice first emerge into political discourse?

The idea of the concept of justice varies from man to man, family to family, locality to locality, state to state, country to country and even continent to continent. The inquiry about justice goes from the crudest to the most refined interpretation of it. The basis of justice can be traced to conscience and morals. Philosophers have different theories of justice. This contributes to the assertion that a definite meaning of justice is hard to come by. Some see it as a shield to the weaker people in the society; others envision a society of equal citizens with equal rights. The ‘rights of citizens’ is one of the basic features of justice. In claiming these rights by citizens, arguments build up as to unjust actions. An example is the nature of secularism in Turkey, the ban placed on the hijab and the violation of the right to freedom of religion of women.
