PowerPoint crashes when I open Visual Basic for Applications.

Yesterday afternoon, I was working on a presentation. When I tried to open the macro editor to add a macro, the entire app crashed to my desktop. I opened the file again and tried again, and the same thing happened. Next, I created a new blank document and tried the same thing. It crashed to my desktop. The strange part is that there is no code in the macro editor, and it continues to crash. After that, I opened an old file which has macros in it. The macros in the old presentation work fine in presentation mode. However, if I try to edit the macros in it, PowerPoint crashes as soon as the VBA editor screen pops up.

I have tried several fixes that I found here on the forum including attempting to repair the Office 365 app from the settings menu and using the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant software to completely uninstall and reinstall PowerPoint. Neither of these fixed my issue. Since reinstalling PowerPoint, I have opened an even older presentation that contains macros. The presentation works perfectly in presentation mode, but it still crashes the software if I try to open the VBA macro editor.

I would like to mention that I have opened the VBA editor in Excel with no issues. I can still create macros without Excel crashing. The problem seems isolated to PowerPoint. However, it doesn't seem to be associated with any particular file. Old files that predate this issue work fine but I cannot edit their macros. A brand-new presentation still works fine but crashes the moment I open the VBA editor to put a fresh macro in it.

Thank you for the detailed description, I understand the inconvenience of PowerPoint crashing when you run the VBA.

It looks like you have already performed many Office application troubleshooting steps but none of them worked, we will consider troubleshooting from the System level. Refer to the following:

1. Check System Files: Run the System File Checker (SFC) to repair any corrupted system files. Open a command prompt (as administrator), type sfc /scannow and press enter . This will scan and repair any corrupted system files. Once done then open PowerPoint to test if the problem still exists.

2 .Create a new user profile: Sometimes a corrupted user profile can also cause a crash. You can try creating a new Windows user account and then open PowerPoint in that account to see if the problem still exists.

Please refer to this link to create a new local account to try to reinstall and logon, which will generate a new user profile to fix the problem if it occurs in the current user's environment. Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support If you need to transfer the profile under a new account, you can refer to the following steps: Troubleshoot problems signing in to Windows - Microsoft Support

Note: Account deletion will result in the original account and credentials corresponding to the account not being recoverable, it is recommended that you use the new account for a period of time and wait for everything to stabilize before deleting the old account.

If the problem persists, since macros are a more advanced and specialized feature, this community does not yet officially support VBA. consider asking a question in the Stack Overflow community. There are a lot of vba users there who may be able to advise you more.

Thank you for your reply Ian. Sadly, neither of those options worked either. However, I found the solution to this issue by doing a little digging around on my laptop. The issue was with my Grammarly for Windows app that runs in the background. After closing Grammarly, the VBA editor opens just fine and allows me to edit my macros like normal. This is strange because I've had Grammarly installed on this laptop since I purchased it a year ago, but this is the first time that I'm having this issue.

Anyway, I wanted to post my solution here in case anyone else has an issue like this.
