Paying your tuition fees at King’s

In this article:

  • Tuition fee payments to King’s
  • Delays with tuition fee funding & payments
  • Beware: Student fee scams & fraud

Covers who pays, when to pay and how to pay.

When will I receive my tuition fee invoice?

The type of course, your level of study (e.g. Undergraduate or Postgraduate) and your fee status (e.g. Home or Overseas) will determine when your invoice will be issued. For full details of when you will be invoiced and when you are expected to pay, check the  When to pay my fees webpage.

I have not been invoiced yet - how do I obtain an early tuition fee invoice?

If you require your invoice earlier than scheduled, you will be able to request this by completing the Request an Early Tuition Fee Invoice form. However, to minimise the administrative overheads that come with issuing invoices earlier than is standard practice, we kindly request that this form is only completed where an “early” invoice is essential .

Before submitting your request, please be aware of the following conditions:

  • You must have enrolled in the academic year for which you are requesting the invoice
  • You must be paying all the fees yourself, or, if you're sponsored, have provided evidence of funding for the period in question to Student Service Online via the  Sponsorship Documents Upload service
  • The invoice must NOT be for one of the King's Digital programmes

If you have any further questions regarding your fees, please have a look at these FAQs as they are a great source of information.

Who will be invoiced for my tuition fees?

Who is liable for your tuition fees depends on which type of funding you have planned for your studies. Either you are personally responsible for paying your fees (self-funded), or an external organisation has agreed to provide your funding to King’s on your behalf (sponsored). You may also have funding agreed from an internal King’s department. Am I sponsored or self-funded? King's College London will consider you to be a  ‘sponsored ’ student where your tuition fees are being paid to King’s College London  directly  from either an 'internal department or external organisation'. You will be considered to be a ‘ self-funded’  student where:

  • Your tuition fees are being paid directly to King’s College London by either you, a member of your family or a friend ; or
  • Where you are receiving funding towards your tuition fees and the  funding is being paid to you directly , rather than to King’s College London.

Important to know: If you are self-funded, and someone is making payments on your behalf, this person must be personally known to you. We strongly advise that you should be wary of any individual or organisation which you don’t know or have not applied to, approaching you to offer to pay your fees. Fraud targeted at students paying tuition fees is unfortunately common. For more detailed guidance, please refer to our information on scams and fraud   and make sure you are following King’s guidance for methods of payments only .

How do I inform King's that I'm being sponsored?

When you enrol online for each academic year, you can upload a copy of your sponsorship evidence. The funding letter should be on their company headed paper and include;

  • Full name of the company sponsoring you
  • Full registered company address,
  • Full address to send the invoice to for payment
  • A contact email address
  • A contact telephone number
  • The amount of funding for the year in GBP pounds sterling
  • The name of the student
  • The programme of study

In some instances, you will not need to provide a copy of the funding letter; for further guidance on being sponsored for your fees, please refer to our article I am sponsored for my tuition fees; what do I need to know?

When do I pay my tuition fees?

Details on when you can pay your tuition fees can be found on the Credit Control webpages .

I’ve received my invoice and I have a few questions If you have received an invoice for your tuition fees, please refer to our article for guidance and FAQs: Understanding your invoice for Tuition Fees 2023-24 .

How can I pay my tuition fees?

Details on how you can pay your tuition fees can be found on the Credit Control webpages .

Students are always welcome to make a payment towards their tuition fees any time before the due date and to break up the amount into smaller more manageable payments so long as the balance is paid by the due date. In order to make a payment you would not normally need an invoice.

Payments for tuition & residence fees are made through our payment platform which is called Global Pay for Students. If you want to know how to make a payment in advance, then please refer to the How to pay my fees webpage to review your options.

I’m starting the next year of my studies; how can I find out the fees for the upcoming year?

For applicants and new students recently enrolled, your course fees for your first academic year can be found in your offer letter which will have been emailed to your nominated address and can be found in your application on King’s Apply .

If you are re-enrolling and continuing on to your next year of study at King’s you will be referred to as a ‘returning student’ or ‘continuing student’. As a returning student you are going into your second, third, or fourth, etc., year of study.

If you are a returning student and you are looking to confirm the tuition fees for the current academic year, you can use our online calculator after 1 June to check this.

Once invoices are generated they are sent to your college email as a PDF attachment and are also accessible in your Student Records Portal by visiting the Fee Statement task. The academic year runs from 1 September to 31 August.

To use the returning fees calculator  you will need your programme code (CRS code). Student Records sends an email prior to the start of the new academic year to all continuing students about fees for that new year. The email contains:

  • The expected fee status for the year
  • The programme code or ‘CRS’ code

If you have any other questions about your fees please check out these  FAQs  as they are a great source of information.

Important to know:  Tuition fees can be affected by specific conditions around your individual circumstances. For more information check the returning student tuition fees webpages.

I’m sponsored for my fees

If you are sponsored, we have guidance and details on the process for you and your sponsor in our article I am sponsored for my tuition fees; what do I need to know?

When will I receive my student finance from Student Finance England or another UK funder?

Whether you are a new student or continuing on your course, you will not receive your student finance until the term starts and the Student Funding Office has confirmed your (re-) enrolment on the course to your funding body, once they can see that you are eligible for student finance.

Important to know:

  • Term dates do not include Welcome Weeks. In the 2023-24 academic year, most programmes start on 25 September 2023, though some health-related and medical programmes may have an earlier start date.
  • If these steps are complete, please email the Student Funding Office to check your attendance has been confirmed.

Important to know: We cannot accept cash or cheque

  • King's College London will only accept payment using the methods listed on our How To Pay My Fees webpage.
  • For your own safety and security please do not bring cash into the UK to fund your college fees. King’s College London will not accept cash payments either directly or at any of our Natwest Bank branches, with our bank having been instructed not to accept cash.
  • We do not accept cheques or drafts as a payment method.

I am due to enrol but my funding for my course is not yet confirmed, what should I do?

There can be many reasons why funding is delayed, and often this is resolved within the first few weeks of term, especially if you were a little late making your funding application. Important to know:

  • Once your funding is confirmed you should contact Credit Control with evidence of your award and your account will be updated.
  • It is important that you have secured the funding before your invoice due date , or that you can pay for the course fees yourself in the interim; otherwise you may end up having university services restrictions applied to your account for non-payment.

I've not received my loan/grant from Student Finance England (or other regional funder) in time for the start of my course; what should I do?

You will not receive your funding until you have fully enrolled, and King’s has informed your funder that you are attending the course.  Please note that this usually takes place once teaching has started and not during welcome week. You are advised to have savings and other funds in your bank account to help finance any costs at the start of term, while you wait for your funding to be paid into your account. Important to know: If you plan to receive a loan and have your tuition fees paid by Student Finance , you will need to re-apply for this for each year of your studies.

If you have completed your application, term has started and were expecting all funding to have come through, please go through the following steps:

  • Check you have submitted your Loan Declaration Form.
  • Check you have successfully completed enrolment at King’s.
  • Check your bank account details are correct on the Student Finance portal.
  • Student Support Number (SSN), which can be found on your Student Finance online account, and;
  • Your full name and student ID number .

The university confirms your enrolment directly with Student Finance. Once they have received confirmation of your enrolment, then you should receive your loan into your nominated bank account about 3 days after. If it is more than 3 days after you have completed the 2 tasks above , then please contact the Student Funding Office , who will be able to investigate why you haven't received your loan.

I think I will miss my fee payment deadline

We expect you to have secured sufficient funding to settle your tuition and/or residence fees when they are due for payment. However, we do recognise that there may be changes in your personal circumstances or unforeseen events, which make it difficult for you to pay on time. In these situations, we encourage you to contact  Credit Control  to discuss your circumstances to see if we can help. For more information on what to do if you find yourself in this situation please visit  What if I can't pay my fees on time? If you’re struggling financially, please read  I'm having money difficulties, where can I find support? Important to know:  If you think you may miss a payment deadline and have concerns about your finances, we recommend you get in touch with Credit Control sooner rather than later, and in advance of your payment deadline if possible. If you have any other questions about your fees please check out these  FAQs  as they are a great source of information.

I have missed the deadline to pay my tuition fees. What will happen and who should I talk to?

If you have missed the fee payment deadline please contact the Credit Control team by email  or phone on +44 (0) 20 7848 3279 as soon as possible. Failure to pay tuition fees may result in your access to King's systems being restricted and your eventual suspension, so it is important that you contact Credit Control to seek advice as soon as possible .

Student fee fraud

Unfortunately, students are increasingly being targeted by money-related scams. A scenario that is becoming more common is where a third party offers to pay a student's fees on their behalf at a discounted rate.   There are no discount schemes at King’s, so if you receive any correspondence about discounted fees then it is likely to be fraudulent and the consequences of this can be very serious. Please read our article How can I avoid student fee fraud and/or scams?

Common scams targeted at students

Sadly, there are many scams which are targeted at students and every year we see students which fall victim to fraud. We encourage all students to actively engage in learning about scams and the serious impact they can have on both your finances and your mental health. For overview of our resources and guidance on this topic, please refer to Common scams & fraud; get to know them and how to avoid them .

Best Year of my Life!

  • Infrastructure, College Bar (You’ll network with a vibrant mix of people there), Social Events, Kings Ball, Faculty, Staff
  • Course (As it was just theoretical)

King's College London was always my dream college. At first, my application was rejected, but then all of a sudden I got a mail saying I was acknowledged. I always wanted to go to King's because of variety of courses available there and as I wanted to get into marketing, I decided to pursue International Marketing but what came to my disappointment was that the Course Fee was too high and the course structure was designed in away that there was no practical experience included in the course. However, it was genuinely the best experience of my life. I made new friends, learned so many new things and got an experience of living independently.

KCL - MSc Banking and Finance

  • The program structure - 6 months of teaching followed by 3 months of dissertation. ,
  • The course was quite practical in terms of the knowledge imparted and the skills developed. ,
  • The faculty in the 2nd trimester was industry professionals who shared industry insights.
  • The dissertation support was minimal and it wasn't conducted in an ideal manner. ,
  • The cohort was mostly people with 0-1 years of work experience and not as diverse as I was expecting.

I chose this college because of the reputation and rankings of the university and its location being London. My overall experience was good, with a few pros and cons as mentioned above.

Great experience

  • I like the Campus.
  • I dislike the Assessment Methods (More exams than practical application)

My main motivation for choosing this college was that they provided a unique list of modules that were not available in other top-ranking colleges.

KCL MSc Neuroscience review

  • King's College London is an esteemed college, has a good world ranking, and is quite well known so that is beneficial. ,
  • Academically, the structure of the syllabus is very clear. You will always have an idea at the very beginning of the course, about when you submit each assignment and where the exams will be held. ,
  • You are well informed about the career options after the course. Opportunities to network with people in different fields. ,
  • King's College London has 4 campuses across main London, wherein the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN) is a separate campus in itself. ,
  • Travelling to any of these campuses is very accessible and you can use any of them. For example, there are libraries on all campuses. Almost all campuses have at least one 24/7 library. ,
  • Teachers are very warm and kind. You can always approach them.
  • There is no placement as such. You can find career fairs happening on campus and career mentors. However, there is no placement cell. ,
  • The lab experience for everyone will be different. Which can be considered good or bad. However, for a dissertation, you can rank the projects you want to work on, and if you end up getting a lower rank of your preference, then you might not get the kind of research experience you want. You can always opt to reach out individually to researchers in that case.

I chose this college as I really loved their website specifically for Neuroscience. Exposure to using fMRI, and brain histology really motivated me to apply for an MSc in Neuroscience at KCL. This course allowed me to choose a speciality out of neuroimaging, neurodegeneration, cognitive neuroscience and neural stem cells - all topic very much in demand in neuroscience research. Out of three offers that I got, KCL was the best university ranking wise, exposure wise, location wise. My overall experience was definitely very good especially because of the support by teachers, who were always very helpful and kind.

Insight into KCL

  • Stellar Academics, Good Extracurricular activities, Inclusive campus and welcoming students, Proximity to the best locations (Corporate Offices help with open days), Stellar Faculty , Emphasis on Applied Learning
  • Major emphasis on self-studying (less hand-held support), Assessment arrangements can sometimes be "not ideal", Cost of Living

I chose my course, particularly King's because I did not know what I wanted to do at the time of applying but I had a rough idea that it would be something related to economics and the field of finance which is why I chose economics and management which has a good mix of both quantitative and qualitative learning.

Masters at King’s College London

  • It is a one-year course that is really extensive and creative in its structure. We have to work really hard but it keeps us motivated.

I chose this college because of it's ranking and referral from knowns. The university is in London. The college ranking (under the top 40) mainly.

KCL - PG review.

  • I love how the people and professors are.
  • I dislike that the entire exam system is just like schools while I prefer to have continuous assessment. ,
  • It is also that while there is a careers office to help you with resume writing, a university job portal and all, no placement team is there which brings companies to campuses. So it is quite hard to get jobs on your own.

I chose King's because of the programme as it is interdisciplinary, as well as it was a blend of Economics and Policy, the two subjects which I preferred to do. The campus is also located in Central London which is perfect to network and connect with industry professionals.

Believe it, Do it, Achieve it!

  • Excellent infrastructure that helps the students to develop skills and remove any hindrances in their research. ,
  • Really equipped and updated with the latest technology. Great career-building activities providing real-world exposure. ,
  • Learned and experienced staff that are working in their respective fields for almost 20 to 30 years. So, you can understand the knowledge base they must have.
  • Placement cell not so efficient. Fewer opportunities and guidance.

My university is known for the efficient and learned staff along with the unique body of researches conducted at the institute. It is known as the best for finance courses and industry exposure programmes. Hence, this was the main point that attracted me to select this university and gain profound knowledge.

Days in my Life at King's College

I chose the university for its high global ranking (15th in the world) and excellent reputation. I was also impressed by their focus on psychiatric and neurological research which is what I am interested in pursuing.

Incredibly Flexible program of Biomedical Sciences

I have chosen this university because of the immaculate course. The course has incredible flexibility as in Y2 you can choose very tailored modules to yourself after a Y1 which is a taster of the wide range of modules. These include: anatomy, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience, pharmacology, cell biology among others. The campus is also situated in the heart of London with walking journey to attractions such as London eye, tower bridge etc.

Indian  students seeking admission in the MBBS program of King’s Londo College must have passed Class XII examination with at least 90% marks from CBSE and CISCE boards only. You must also take UCAT in order to get admission in this program.

Undergraduate tuition fees.

  • Home fees for students based in the UK are set at £9,250* per annum for new students starting in September 2024.
  • The UK government has confirmed that students from the EU, EEA or Switzerland starting their course in 2021 or later will no longer be eligible for home fee status, and will instead pay the international tuition fee rate.
  • Existing home and EU status undergraduate students who began their course of study between 2017 and 2020 will have their tuition fees set at £9,250.
  • All tuition fees* can be found on each individual course page on the online prospectus.

* Please note that international tuition fees may be subject to additional increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.

Students from the European Union

Most undergraduates with settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) are entitled to a Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan from Student Finance, in addition to supplementary grants such as the Childcare Grant, Parents' Learning Allowance, Adult Dependents Grant and Disabled Students' Allowance, where relevant.

Most undergraduates with pre-settled status under the EUSS are entitled to a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance. You may also qualify for a Maintenance Loan and supplementary grants depending on your circumstances. Further information is available from the UKCISA site . You can also call the UKCISA student advice line on 020 7788 9214.

How can I pay my tuition fees?

Most* home undergraduate students do not have to self-fund their tuition fees whilst studying, unless they wish to. Instead, you can take a student loan for fees. Find out more on our loans & grants web page.

Repayments start the April after you complete your course and you will only repay your student loan when your income is over a threshold amount for your repayment plan. More details about the different repayment plans can be found on the UK Government's ' Repaying your student loan ' web page.

Please note that we do not offer the option to make a tuition fee payment in pound sterling (GBP) with a non-UK issued card as these transactions are expensive to process.

*If you have previously studied an undergraduate degree, please visit our previous study web page for further information.

What happens if I don't pay my tuition fees?

Any student who fails to settle the overdue balance within the prescribed dates will be liable to suspension from the university and then have his/her university registration cancelled after 14 days written notice from the Director of Students & Education Support. Suspension means a total prohibition on attendance, access to the university and on any participation in university activities.

If you are worried about paying for your tuition/accommodation fees, please contact the student fees team via our website and they will look at your request individually. We’d also recommend you contact our Money & Housing advice team via the website so they can support you during these difficult times.

The emphasis of our research is on ‘what works’ in the prevention and treatment of substance-related problems: the NAC represents a network of clinicians, researchers and clinical teachers who have a shared commitment to excellence in prevention and treatment work, and to supporting and strengthening national and international endeavours in this field. Over the last 40 years, the NAC has developed a body of research evidence that has informed the evidence base for the UK treatment system and development of new treatment services for alcohol, smoking and drug problems. This work ranges from trials of new therapies and preventative treatments to studies seeking to understand the genetic and biological basis of addictive behaviour. PhD projects are available in areas related to the development and evaluation of new treatments for alcohol, smoking and drug problems and includes studies seeking to understand the underlying psychological and biological bases and change processes of addictive behaviours, as well as policy-driven and workforce development projects and treatment trials.
