Hi, I also received the interview from Rice. I agree with your feeling. I did neuroimaging in my previous research, and the two interviewers both do neuroimaging. One of them come from MD Anderson.

Are you sure you are talking about Upenn (Wharton) PhD Statistics program? Several of my friends have received offers as well as rejections. UPenn Statistics never does so late (this year was expection) while releasing the first (or, only) round of offers. It mostly came around last week of Jan during last two years at least. I'm not sure if the person whom you mailed is saying about second round of offers or some other program, but not Statistics.

Huh, strange. I'm a domestic student if that makes a difference, but I still have yet to receive an update on my application - that is, I don't see a 'decision' under my online application.
@thermoflask101 To my understanding, if you have not already received a decision then you are on an unofficial waitlist. I am in the same boat–no decision yet.

I see. Have you heard back anything from Columbia PhD Stats? I don't know if first round offers have been given yet for that.

Yes, that may be the distinction. Most of the people I know getting offers/rejects are international.

As far as I know, they have not released decisions yet.

I have not. I know that they have sent out some interview invites, although it is unclear whether they interview all applicants or only international ones.
has anyone received an invitation to visitation day at UCLA? Does that mean we are going to receive an offer or have they sent it out to everyone? (Applied to phd in stats).

1st round offers and visitation day (which is remote, I believe) have been sent out. 2nd round offers should be coming out in mid-march.
They told me that if you don't here back from them, than probably don't expect an offer from them.
Do most second round offers come out in mid-march?

I'm also a domestic student and I received by decision in mid February. Not sure about others.

I got the invitation to visit day and then checked my spam folder and found the admit email there. Maybe the same for you! If so, congratulations!
Does anyone know whether UNC-Chapel Hill, U of Wisconsin, Michigan (Ann Arbor), and Minnesota gave out all their admissions? I haven't heard anything from them and only saw 1 or 2 admission results for each university. They are all for Statistics Ph.D.
does anyone know how long is uthealth biostat program waitlist?

Just to clarify, this was your experience as part of the 2021 fall cycle, right? Based on this year's website info, it appears that the graduate committee for Wharton is meeting late Feb and early March, so decisions realistically aren't going to be released for another week.

Hi! Sorry for the confusion. I applied to Masters programs in 2021 and PhDs this cycle. I got my Wharton Statistics PhD decision in mid-February and it seems based on the results section of theGradCafe that other decisions were sent out around then as well.
I can also confirm that some Columbia Stats PhD decisions came out today.

Good luck to everyone that applied to the UCLA Statistics PH.D.
I also sent an email to ask the committe, but did not get reply. It looks like ucla is hiring a lot less this year

Yup.. the UC strikes increased pay but lower the number of students admitted.
Are there any other applicants to Canadian universities for the MSc Statistics? I'm talking about UBC and UofT in particular. I've been accepted to Waterloo over a month ago.

I had no interview for Waterloo. Note that I applied to regular Statistics and not Biostatistics.
Also, thanks for the information.
I should add that I'm a Canadian applicant and not and international applicant, if that makes any difference.

Thank you, that makes sense. My boyfriend is an international applicant and I also know another international applicant. Both of them have not heard back from waterloo yet. This explains!
Anyone from Colorado State University knows what is going on with the statistics department? They used to send out offers in January or February. When I emailed them in January, they said that they have already started reviewing applications in the middle of January. But this week they told me that they are still reviewing. I wonder if it is because of the funding that takes them so long or maybe other reasons.
Has anyone heard from Tulane biostat?

We are happy to announce Undergraduate Research Experience in Statistics (URES) to provide undergraduate Statistics students an opportunity to participate in a research experience with faculty.
Any questions? Please contact Undergraduate Advising ( [email protected] )
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
New freshman students have many other responsibilities in their first semester to lay a foundation for a successful career here. We encourage those students to apply in a later semester. Transfer students have already had some experience at the collegiate level and are welcome to apply to URES in their first semester.
The number of announced positions for student researchers varies per semester. It’s hard to say what one individual’s chances are of getting in because it depends on the pool of all applicants and the number of positions. My advice is to select your schedule for the coming semester as if you will not participate in URES, but have a backup plan if you do get in and need to shuffle some classes because of the added responsibility. Regardless, we encourage all students to apply for this opportunity.
Not necessarily. The opportunities on the URES application are only the ones we know about right now. As we’ve seen in past semesters, more faculty usually step forward at the beginning or even midway through a semester. The applicant pool will continue to be circulated and available to faculty leading up to and throughout the semester.
Mathematics, m.s. in statistics and data science.
The discipline of statistical sciences is concerned with the art of developing techniques to gain information and make decisions from data in the presence of uncertainty. The techniques are based on the theory and tools of the various branches of mathematics, especially probability.
A graduate education in the statistical sciences allows one an entry into many areas of physical and social sciences, medicine, business and government. There are more than 130 universities in the US that offer graduate programs in the statistical sciences. In spite of the declining graduate enrollment in most disciplines across the country, the enrollment in statistics has remained steady over the last fifteen years. An average of 1000 M.S. degrees in Statistics and Biostatistics are awarded every year. A recent study by the NSF and DOE (NSF publication 80-78) concludes that during the 90's "the supply of scientists and engineers at all degree levels will likely be more than adequate to meet demand in all fields except computer professions, statistics and some fields of engineering".
The prerequisite for admission to the M.S. degree in Statistics and Data Science is an undergraduate degree that includes at least 9 semester-hours of calculus. Students who have not had any course in linear algebra, complex variables and advanced calculus are advised to take Lehigh's Math 205 (or 244), Math 208 (or 316) and Math 301 at the earliest opportunity.
The M.S. in Statistics and Data Science requires 30 credit hours of graduate courses with at least 18 hours of 400-level courses. The choice of the courses must be approved by the graduate advisor. Up to 6 hours of coursework may be replaced with a masters thesis. All students in the program must also pass a comprehensive examination on basic probability, statistics and linear algebra.
The M.S. program in Statistics and Data Science has two tracks, Statistics and Stochastic Modeling. The following is a guide for courses and electives in the two tracks.
Please see Lehigh's catalog for course descriptions
First year recommended course sequence
Second Year
Select at least 4 electives from the following (not all courses are offered every year):
Recommended Courses
Select one other possible elective from the following:
Current Math courses to be cross-listed in the catalog as STAT courses are as follows. We have elevated some 300 level Math courses to the level of 400 STAT courses in order to facilitate meeting the 18 credit hour requirement for M.S. in Statistics and Data Science.
An undergraduate student will receive 4 hours of credit if enrolled in Math 310, 334, 312 or 338 but 3 hours of credit if enrolled in STAT 410, 434, 412 or 438.

Registration for the 2024-2025 competition is open, the wharton global high school investment competition is a free, experiential investment challenge for high school students (9th to 12th grade) and teachers. students work in teams of four to seven, guided by a teacher as their advisor, and have access to an online stock market simulator. together, they learn about strategy-building, teamwork, communication, risk, diversification, company and industry analysis, and many other aspects of investing..
* 2023-2024 Participation Numbers
Teams examine a short case study featuring a potential client (a real Wharton graduate working in business) and are tasked with collaborating to meet that client’s long-term investment goals as they try to win his or her business. Equipped with an approved stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) list (domestic and international) and the Wharton Investment Simulator (WInS), which allows them to buy and sell stocks and ETFs, over the course of 10 weeks students develop an investment strategy, analyze industries and companies, and build a portfolio using $100,000 in virtual cash. Winners are selected on the strength and articulation of their team strategies, not on the growth of their portfolios, which is a key differentiator between this investment challenge and others. During the competition each team submits two deliverables.
Final reports are reviewed by a team of judges, who select 50 semifinalist teams. Those teams are invited to present their strategies to a panel of expert judges at the virtual Semifinals. The top 10 teams from the Semifinals move on to the Global Finale at Wharton in Philadelphia.

This summer, we will be featuring blog posts written by PhD students who participated in Career Services’ Career Exploration Fellowship (CEF), a program that helps doctoral candidates explore their career interests through networking opportunities with advanced degree professionals. Click here to learn more about CEF.
Describe your experience working with your host.
I had an incredible experience working with my host. She identified my personal interests at the beginning of the fellowship and connected me with individuals that could offer insight and guidance in relation to these interests. Through these connections I built relationships that I feel will benefit me throughout my career journey.
What did you learn from this opportunity (about yourself, potential career fields, the job search, etc.)?
Prior to the fellowship, I was unaware of the array of career paths available to PhD prepared individuals. The informational interviews I conducted allowed me to learn about the trajectory of others’ careers and pathways I could consider. I also become more proficient in requesting and conducting informational interviews, which is a skill that will assist me in building future connections.
How did your CEF experience benefit your future career plans?
Being cognizant of the array of career opportunities has allowed me to consider other fields that I could pursue outside of academia. The CEF experience has also made me think more about work/life balance, which was emphasized by individuals I interviewed. I am now actively investigating other career paths to explore opportunities that may be interesting.
What was the most valuable part of your CEF experience?
The most valuable part of my CEF experience was building relationships with professionals with PhD degrees outside of my field. It expanded my understanding of the types of career opportunities I can pursue and helped me frame what is important when considering professional roles. I also appreciated how open people were about their personal journeys, which made me feel more confident about navigating the different paths my career journey may take.
Top reason PhD students should apply to the CEF program?
Understanding what your opportunities are will only strengthen your career journey, and the professional relationships you can build through CEF will support you throughout this process. By completing a program like CEF, students are better positioning themselves for success.

Penn Carey Law’s newest LLM class is comprised of a talented and diverse group of lawyers from 33 countries, regions, and territories.
This week, the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School is welcoming over 130 bright and exceedingly accomplished lawyers from 33 countries, regions, and territories, who together make up the impressive LLM Class of 2025 .
The newest cohort also includes three SJD candidates—all Penn Carey Law LLM alumni.
“We are delighted to welcome 136 talented foreign trained attorneys from 33 countries, regions, and territories—including our first LLM student from Bhutan,” said Assistant Dean, Graduate Programs Elise Luce Kraemer L’93 . “They are a remarkably diverse group, including academics, government officials, and lawyers practicing in traditional areas such as criminal, corporate law, and human rights law, as well as experts in cutting edge areas such as AI, data protection, ESG, and Fintech law, with experience at law firms, multi-national corporations, government agencies, NGOs, and the judiciary.”
Fully trained as attorneys in their home countries, the incoming LLM class includes painters, runners, hikers, world travelers, dancers, gamers, tennis players, and musicians. Nearly every LLM class member speaks at least two languages, and many speak more.
“Penn Carey Law received over 1500 applications this year,” said Kraemer. “Our unique pre-term program, outstanding interdisciplinary academic offerings from world-class faculty, including the opportunity for the LLMs to enroll in the Wharton Business and Law certificate, has made our LLM very popular. Our wonderful alumni throughout the world have been excellent ambassadors for our school,” said Kraemer, “which I believe contributed to the increased enthusiasm and excitement for Penn Carey Law this year.”
Before beginning the fall term, the class will participate in an in-person summer pre-term program , which is designed to prepare them to engage fully with the Law School community, inside the classroom and beyond. The program introduces fundamental U.S. legal concepts and provides ample opportunities for social engagement with one another.
“Starting this week,” said Kraemer, “LLMs will take Foundations in U.S. Law, Legal Research, and Legal Writing, along with about 20 co-curricular programs, including speed networking, team building, a scavenger hunt, mindfulness classes, and professional development workshops.”
Among the social activities on this summer’s agenda include introducing students to hoagies and water ice—two of Philadelphia’s finest culinary treasures—and a pizza party in honor of all partners and family members who will provide invaluable support throughout this year.
“This month-long academic, professional and social onboarding supports LLMs success and allows them to seamlessly integrate into the Law School community in the fall,” Kraemer added.
