Microsoft PowerPoint best PowerPoint apps and tools for Android

Presentation software is a powerful tool in the workplace. It’s especially true for PowerPoint, the most popular presentation software. It helps freshen up lectures, organize information in an easily deliverable way, and is generally accessible to most people. There are a lot of options as well. You can find presentation software on computers and smartphones.

Additionally, some tools make each platform easier. We have a bit of everything on this list. Here are the best PowerPoint apps and tools for Android.

The best PowerPoint apps and tools:

Andropen office, google home, google slides, microsoft powerpoint.

  • Remote desktop apps

Unified Remote

Price: Free / $12.99

AndrOpen Office is likely the best bet for Linux users. It fully supports OpenOffice file formats and includes Writer, Calc, and Impress. Impress is the presentation software. It can also read PowerPoint files as well. In terms of PowerPoint apps, it does pretty well. You can create a slideshow, add graphics, add text, and the basic stuff like that. The free version is more usable than the first free version of most paid software. The app also works perfectly with niche functions like Samsung DeX. It’s not quite as powerful as Microsoft PowerPoint, but it’s close enough for most people.

Price: Free / $2.99 per item

Clicker screenshot

Clicker works a lot like ASUS Remote Link. It lets you connect to your computer and use your phone as a presentation clicker. It also seems to work on Mac, Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android. That should cover just about everybody. In any case, the workflow for this one is pretty obvious. You create your PowerPoint on your computer, where you have full access to all of the tools. Then, you use this app to present the PowerPoint at your meeting. There is also remote trackpad functionality, Samsung S-Pen support, and space to keep notes for your speech. There aren’t many presentation clicker apps like this one, so it’s nice to see that at least one is really good.

Price: Free

Google Home screenshot 2022

Google Home is an out-of-the-box idea. You use it with a Chromecast to mirror your phone screen to a display. You can then use your phone to present your PowerPoint. This lets you work on your PowerPoint either on desktop or mobile. You must put the project on your mobile phone, use Google Home to mirror it, and begin your presentation. Chromecasts are small, easy to carry, and very easy to use. It lets you use the presentation space’s existing resources without carting in some extra equipment. Plus, the app is free.

Google Slides is the presentation app from the Google Drive office suite. It’s largely considered the top or at least second-best option in terms of PowerPoint apps. You can mess with your presentation on your phone or desktop via the web. Plus, Google Drive has live collaboration tools and many other features. Your presentation is stored in the cloud, so you can access and download it whenever you want. Plus, it can read, edit, and save PowerPoint files for excellent cross-product functionality. It’s also, far and away, the best free option available. That makes it great for students without access to a Microsoft Office account.

Price: Free / $9.99 per month

Microsoft PowerPoint screenshot 2022

Microsoft PowerPoint is the top one or two PowerPoint apps in the world. It’s so good that people refer to presentation apps as PowerPoint apps. The mobile version is more functional than its desktop equivalent, even if the desktop variant is more powerful. On top of the usual presentation features, the app also includes a Presenter Coach function to help you prepare for your speech. Luckily, Microsoft has adapted nicely to the times. You can start fresh or edit existing PowerPoint presentations that you started on your computer. The full functionality is available with an Office 365 subscription. The good news is the subscription unlocks both the desktop and mobile versions of PowerPoint with just a single subscription. You also get Microsoft OneDrive space to store and transport your PowerPoints.

Remote Desktop apps

Price: Free / Varies

Microsoft Remote Desktop screenshot 2021

Remote desktop apps are a slightly archaic but very functional method of presenting stuff. These apps let you connect directly to your desktop computer, mirroring everything on your mobile phone. There are usually tools to let you navigate around. Thus, you can connect to your computer and give a presentation straight from your phone without moving any files. You can also use these to work on your PowerPoints straight from your computer, so you don’t lose any functionality by being on a smartphone or tablet. We have Microsoft Remote Desktop linked since it covers most use cases, but others are available, too.

Price: Free / $1.99 per item

Unified Remote is another app that lets you control your computer remotely. It works a lot like the ASUS Remote Link. You connect to your computer and can use the app to navigate the UI, as a mouse and keyboard, and there is a built-in presentation setup. This one is different because it has dedicated “remotes” for many specific apps, like Google Chrome, Spotify, Winamp, and, you guessed it, Microsoft PowerPoint. Downloads are available for Windows, Mac, Linux (Debian and RPM distros), Raspberry Pi (ARMv6 and MIPS), and others. That makes it suitable for just about everybody.

Price: Free / $3.99 per month / $29.99 per year

WPS Office screenshot 2022

WPS Office is just one of many alternative office apps that double as PowerPoint apps. WPS Office has a writer, spreadsheet, and presentation function. The presentation function lets you read and edit PowerPoint files, so it’s a good start there. The app includes various layouts, animations, transitions, and other effects. Additionally, it lets you draw on slides or use a built-in digital laser pointer during your presentation, which is a nice little feature. WPS Office is free to use if you don’t mind the occasional annoying advertisement.

Zoho Show is one of the few reasonably good standalone PowerPoint apps. It’s not connected to an entire office suite, and it’s not a clicker or a remote desktop app. It’s an app dedicated to making presentations. It includes a bunch of stuff, including various types of charts, over 100 shapes, different formatting options, filters, animations, and other stuff. There are also templates to help you get started. It’s not quite as powerful as some competitors. At the time of this writing, the developers are still working on incorporating stuff like music into the app. However, this is an excellent alternative to Google Slides if you need a quick, free option.

Desktop computers have become a rare commodity these day and although laptops are holding on to the last shred of anything that doesn’t resemble a smart device, it might not be long before they might be replaced for good. Even modern laptops have begun to resemble smart devices, as hybrid models aim to replace the conventional laptop.

Whether you are a PC user or someone who favours Mac, the chances are you need to be ready for a world ruled by Android. In fact, many PC and Mac users already own an Android device.

To help presenters prepare for things to come, we have compiled a list of the best presentation apps for Android. This list consists of not only apps that can be used for making and presenting your slide decks but also apps which can help you turn your Android device into a presentation remote or a tool for remotely delivering your presentations.

[This article contains affiliate links. For more information, see our disclosures here .]

1) PowerPoint for Android

According to some estimates there are 30 million PowerPoint presentations delivered per day. It can be safely assumed that most presenters globally use PowerPoint for delivering their slides. Even many who use alternative apps, usually make use of applications which support PPT files. This is why PowerPoint for Android is number one of our list of best presentation apps for Android.

While users have complained about the need for an Office 365 account to use the PowerPoint app for Android , however, there is no denying the fact that it is indeed the real deal when it comes to Android presentation apps. PowerPoint for Android supports many features that many so called PowerPoint alternatives on the Play Store have failed to provide. This includes features like: support for PowerPoint charts; transitions and animations; and integration with SharePoint and major cloud storage services.

You can access files from not only your Android device but also via OneDrive, Google Drive, box, DropBox and SharePoint. Furthermore, you can create, edit and present presentations right from your Android device.

PowerPoint for Android is not without its limitations, as it is not as powerful as its desktop version. Unfortunately, you cannot do much with the app unless you are logged in with an Office 365 account.

If you’re wondering why would you use a paid app instead of the dozens of free alternatives on the Google Play Store, the answer is simple. PowerPoint for Android not only provides support for many native features that other apps can’t provide but also enables making high-quality slides; something a professional presenter desperately needs to have.

Furthermore, your imported PowerPoint files will not have any missing charts, animations or pixelated images when you open them on Android. Moreover, you can safely use PowerPoint for Android for presenting your slides by connecting your Android device to a projector using a PC, Chromecast, Miracast, etc.

2) Google Slides

If you don’t want to pay for an Office 365 subscription, Google Slides is the next best alternative. What started as a cloud based imitation of PowerPoint has come a long way. While Google Slides has a long way to go, as explained in our post about Google Slides Vs PowerPoint ; it gives adequate options for making a good looking presentation.

With the Google Slides app for Android you can create, edit and present your presentations from an Android device. Furthermore, it supports PowerPoint files, which can help you use this app as a free alternative to the Office 365 subscription based PowerPoint for Android app.

If you’ve never used the web based version of Google Slides or haven’t tried it since its rebranding, it has come a long way. A few years back I would not have fancied importing a PowerPoint presentation to Google Slides but all that has now changed. The imported PowerPoint files have much better editability and few slides (if any) get botched after import.

The only downside of using Google Slides is that you can’t do much without internet connectivity. For example, you need online connectivity for making a presentation. This can be a buzzkill for people looking for an app they can use without keeping their mobile data packages on when making slides on the go.

Needless to say, Google Slides comes integrated with Google Drive and gives you access for your presentation files via your Google account. While Google Slides is no PowerPoint, however, it can help you get the job done with all basic functions a presenter might need. Furthermore, it’s also a good enough option for viewing and editing PowerPoint files for free on an Android device.

3) WPS Office+PDF

I have been using WPS Office for as long as I have owned an Android device. This is one of the oldest Office Suites for Android and one of the best ones available for free. With WPS Office you can create, view and edit Office files, including presentations, with support for PowerPoint files.

WPS Office also provides a number of other handy functions, such as wireless printing support for Office and PDF files, a reader-friendly mobile mode for PDF files and documents, built-in image editing functionality, track changes, etc.

It can be safely assumed that after PowerPoint for Android and Google Slides, WPS Office has the features and smooth functionality which makes it a viable Android app for creating, viewing, editing and presenting presentations.

WPS Office screenshot

4)  Polaris Office+PDF

Many Android devices come with the Polaris Viewer, which makes it possible to view MS Office files on Android devices. Polaris has many apps for Android, including separate apps for LG devices, Symantec mobility suite, and an enterprise version known as Polaris Good. Polaris Office+PDF is a free Office suite which can be used for viewing and editing MS Office files, including PowerPoint presentations.

Polaris Office also provides a number of other useful features, such as the ability to take notes with handwriting, passcode protection for documents, document sharing and commenting features, etc. Polaris Office+PDF is a free Android app, which offers in-app purchases.

Polaris Office screenshot

5) Smart Office 2

Smart Office 2 for Android is one of many Office apps which came way before Microsoft woke up from its slumber. This app is not just a mere PowerPoint alternative for Android but an entire Office suite. Smart Office 2 is a free app, which supports creating, editing, viewing, printing and sharing Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. It also provides support for viewing PDF and image files, including GIF animations ad Vector Graphics (WMF & EMF).

Smart Office 2 also enables converting Office files to PDF format, with the utility to annotate PDF files. You can use Smart Office for presenting PowerPoint and PDF presentation using your Android device. Smart Office 2 also gives templates for creating Office files, including PowerPoint presentations.

While Smart Office 2 is not as feature rich as PowerPoint for Android or Google Slides, it does serve as the poor man’s PowerPoint and can perform many basic functions you would expect in an office suite. Something that I personally find lacking in this app is the lacklustre interface and slower functionality. This is why WPS and Polaris Office are ranked higher in our list.

Smart Office 2 screenshot

Presentations aren’t necessarily supposed to be all about PowerPoint slides. There are many useful apps that can go beyond support for PPTs and actually deliver a platform which can make professional presenters stand out from the crowd. ShowPad is one such service, which makes it possible for presenters engaged in sales and marketing to deliver robust presentations on the fly.

ShowPad is a sales enablement platform. In other words, it is a service which allows bringing together all your marketing data to create custom presentations according to specific customer needs. This might include PPTs, PDF files, Word documents, videos and relevant images.

The ShowPad app for Android is an extension of the ShowPad web service, which gives a plethora of options to access sales data for presenting your sales pitch anytime, using interactive tools. ShowPad is a paid service which can be tested out using a free trial account.

Showpad

7) MightyMeeting

MightyMeeting is not your average presentation app, as it integrates web conferencing with polls, whiteboards and PowerPoint slides to provide a comprehensive platform for presenters. MightyMeeting is perfect for remote presentations and for delivering your presentation during a webinar or online conference.

Like ShowPad, MightyMeeting app for Android is an extension of a web service. You can instantly start online meetings, invite attendees and begin presenting your content using PowerPoint slides, whiteboards, videos and even conduct polls to gather opinion from meeting participants.

MightyMeeting is a paid service but you can take it for a spin using a trial account. Read a more detailed review of MightyMeeting here .

8)  AIO Remote

You might have used apps that turn your Android device into a presentation remote. And when it comes to the best Android presentation remote app, AIO Remote is a clear winner. When I first installed this app, I didn’t expect much, however, I was amazed by its smooth functionality and wide range of features.

AIO Remote can not only be used if you are presenting PowerPoint slides on your computer but even if you are using another presentation app. This is because AIO has features for controlling not just PowerPoint slides but your entire computer. With AIO Remote you can control your mouse pad, turn your Android device into a joystick, browse your PC files, control your media player, as well as create custom remotes by specifying control variables.

AIO Remote for Android is free to use and works with Windows, Mac and Linux. AIO also has a mobile version for Kindle tablets. You can connect AIO Remote via Android to your computer using a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection.

You can find a more detailed review of AIO Remote here.

AIO Remote screenshot

9) Office Remote

Office Remote is an official app by Microsoft which is meant to remotely control Office apps on PC using Android devices. Office Remote can not only control PowerPoint running on a PC but also other Office apps like Word and Excel.

Office Remote is a free app and requires Bluetooth connectivity between a PC and Android device. Like any remote control app for Android, you will require installing a desktop plugin for MS Office on your PC and the Android app for Office remote on your Android smartphone or tablet.

Office Remote screenshot

10)  AirDroid

When it comes to Android apps providing remote control, AirDroid is indeed a novelty. This is not your conventional Android remote, since it does pretty much the opposite of what AIO Remote and Office Remote Offer; i.e. you can remotely control your Android device via PC, Mac or web browser.

Now, being a presenter you might be wondering what good can AirDroid be for you? The answer is simple. AirDroid be useful to remotely accessing your Android device to Mirror it on a PC or Mac connected to a projector. Moreover, you can use it to remotely send SMS, transfer files, control your mobile camera, play and manage audio and video files, as well as transfer files to your computer without the need for wired connectivity.

In other words, whether you want to mirror your Android on a projector via computer, remotely control your Android device during a presentation or need to quickly transfer a file from your Android device to a computer, AirDroid can help you do all that. Furthermore, if you intend to share something like a WhatsApp chat, video or need to demonstrate something using your Android device, you can show it all on the big screen.

AirDroid is a free app but offers some in-app purchases.

AirDroid screenshot

The above list is meant to provide our fellow presenters with useful apps to help them use their Android devices more effectively for presenting presentations. We excluded apps which we thought were not user-friendly enough or lacked essential features.

This is why Prezi did not make it to our list. Unfortunately, Prezi currently only has a Prezi Viewer for Android and its mobile site doesn’t make it any easy to create presentations from an Android browser.

Similarly, we did not include many presentation remote apps, since the ones mentioned in this post come with comprehensive features that are hard to match by other Android apps.

If you think we missed out a presentation app for Android which should be on this list, feel free to share your thoughts via our comments section.

Some features of certain apps might require online connectivity. However, most of the apps have some kind of offline support. WP Office for instance provides complete offline support, similarly, you can connect AIO Remote via Bluetooth.

It often happens that our laptop is not with us, but for some urgent office work, we have to make a presentation from the phone itself. So for them, these editing APPs can be utilized.

8 Best Slideshow App for Android in 2024

presentation app for android tablet

Slideshows used to be incredibly complicated to make. However, times are different today and you can make slideshows within a few minutes. But do you want to be more productive? If so, you need to try out slideshow apps for Android. There are quite a lot of options to choose from, which can make the choice somewhat confusing.

This is why we’re going to talk about some of the best slideshow app you will find for Android today. We will talk about both free and paid offerings to give you a good selection of excellent slideshow maker apps. So let’s take a look.

Best Slideshow App for Android

best slideshow app

This is a versatile video and photo slideshow app that comes with a wide range of features onboard. What’s even better is that this app lets you add music and even custom filters to your slideshows, adding more life to your presentations or photo collages.

In addition to helping you arrange photos and videos in a presentable format, Pixgram comes with a pretty decent video editor as well, so you can make all the necessary adjustments to your pictures or videos without leaving the app.

As far as music is concerned, choices may be fairly limited as they only offer a select range of online music. The video slideshows you make can be saved in formats such as 1:1, 16:9, and 9:16. Once finished, your slideshows can be sent to your friends and family.

Pixgram is a free app but is ad-supported. The app also has in-app purchases which will remove ads while also presumably including a couple of bonus features. The app is compatible with devices running Android 4.3 and up.

Download Here: Google Play

best slideshow app

2. Scoompa Video – Slideshow Maker

Similar to Pixgram, Scoompa Video and Slideshow Maker has a wide set of tools to help you extensively create and modify your slideshows. It’s as simple as choosing the pictures and videos saved on your phone’s Gallery and creating your masterpiece. This app also comes with the ability to add music from online sources, while you can also import your own audio.

There are plenty of stickers to choose from with Scoompa which add further color to your slideshow. You can also access a wide range of animated frames on this app. As you would expect, it comes with a fair share of filters as well.

The user interface is pretty easy to navigate which makes this slideshow app all the more fun to use, especially if you’re into extensive video editing and slideshows. Scoompa is a free app on the Play Store but comes with ads and in-app purchases.

best slideshow app

3. SlidePlus

This comes from the popular team of Viva Video, and you can expect some similarities with regards to functionality, although there’s no annoying watermark from Viva Video. SlidePlus comes with a fairly simple concept, one that lets you select a bunch of photos or videos, add filters, and share them with your family.

You can also add music, although the sources are unlikely to be as extensive as Scoompa. The app comes with a wide range of slideshow preset themes to choose from, which can save a lot of time if you’re in a hurry.

All the features of the app are easy to access, which is why SlidePlus has gained significant popularity among slideshow apps. As is the case with most apps available today, SlidePlus comes with ads as well as in-app purchases. While the free version comes with a bulk of the core features, only paying users get access to additional themes and content within the app. SlidePlus will work on phones with Android 4.3 or higher.

best slideshow app

4. Google Slides

It’s hard to leave Google from any list of modern-day apps, and that can be said about slideshows as well. Slides is a fairly simple online tool, which has also been available in the form of an app for quite some time. Similar to mobile apps for Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and so on, Slides can sync with your Google account and save progress between devices.

In terms of features, Google Slides is a service that can be used by practically everyone. It can be used to edit existing presentations, create new ones, or even explore some slides for inspiration.

One of my favorite features of Slides is its ability to present slides when you’re in a video call, making it extremely convenient for long-distance presentations. The app can also sync with your calendar to help you join pending video calls without leaving the app. This app can be used with existing Powerpoint files as well.

The best part of all is that Slides is a free download on the Play Store and is devoid of ads or in-app purchases. Your search for the best slideshow app just got a lot easier.

5. Microsoft PowerPoint

One of the early names in the slideshow business was Microsoft with its iconic PowerPoint software. This file extension is so popular that it is used even today (pptx), and is the standard format for most presentations around the world. So naturally, it makes sense to have the PowerPoint app on your phone.

However, unlike Google Slides, Microsoft’s Android app comes with a bunch of caveats. For starters, you will need an Office365 subscription for advanced features, although most users can get started with this app using a free Microsoft account. This will let you edit or create new documents.

However, if you already have an Office365 subscription, we cannot recommend Microsoft PowerPoint highly enough. It’s particularly impressive if you’re using a tablet with a 10-inch display or bigger as you get the additional real estate to edit your documents. Collaboration features work just as seamlessly as it does on the desktop or web version of Powerpoint.

This app is a free download on the Play Store and has in-app purchases. There are no ads. Given some software limitations, Microsoft Powerpoint will only work on smartphones running Android 6.0 and up.

6. Photo SlideShow Maker

Now that we’ve discussed a bunch of professional apps, let’s talk about some apps that can be used by everyone. This app does pretty much what you expect from a slideshow maker, and does it with relative ease. It offers more than 18 themes to choose from, so you don’t need to customize and make your own themes for an upcoming slideshow.

Users can add music from a number of sources, which certainly adds to the customization aspect. It’s worth pointing out that this app can only make slideshows out of photos, and not videos. This limits its functionality to a certain extent. However, it’s certainly a good option for those willing to check out a photo slideshow maker .

Once you have your desired slideshow, you can share it instantly with your friends and family using social media apps. Your slideshows can also be saved to the Gallery for easy perusal at a later date.

This app is free to download on the Play Store and is ad-supported. Since there are no in-app purchases here, users probably won’t be able to remove ads. The app requires phones/tablets running Android 4.1 and higher.

OWb2vgx8gbhiaQ1JXm401tql0evvmDzdOvVMzXQX1WTKYR8i36kn9qluY2j4muChuw=s360 rw

This is a versatile photo and video slideshow creator app that comes with a variety of features. There’s the ability to add cinematic effects to your slideshows as well, something that isn’t possible on a lot of other apps.

This is an excellent app to make video slideshows of your family trips or of a recent event that you want to cherish for a long time. When you’ve chosen from a wide range of filters and other cool effects to add, you can save the slideshow and share it around with your peers.

Although the app is free to download, the company also offers a subscription service called MoShow VIP which unlocks plenty of additional styles and also the ability to save your videos in HD quality or in 16:9 widescreen format. The inclusion of these features certainly makes this one of the best slideshow app out there.

Fortunately, the app has no ads but there are in-app purchases for the aforementioned subscription. This app works on phones and tablets running Android 5.0 and above.

8. Slideshow Creator

This slideshow maker app lets you choose up to 30 pictures at a time, giving you more options for your slideshow. Further, the speed and the frequency of photo visibility can be extensively controlled. The app has a healthy collection of music while you can also add audio from your phone or SD card.

The slideshows are saved on your default storage location and can be edited in the future if required. While it doesn’t bring anything extraordinary to the table, it’s a decent alternative to the other apps we’ve discussed in this article.

Slideshow Creator can be downloaded for free as long as you’re fine with advertisements. An in-app purchase will remove the ads for good. This app will work on devices running Android 4.4 and up.

One Comment

Thanks for these awesome suggestions for creating a slideshow, a video format. Is there available a photo file show app, one that doesn’t require a video creation? I want to show picture files, from a thumb drive without creating a video.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your thoughts.

  •  Basic, user-friendly interface
  •  Third-party extensions for enhanced functionality

Canva

The only reason I did not place Canva first on the list is that it is not an exclusive choice for presentation apps for Android. It is basically for graphic designing, but it is not any less of a presentation tool. Canva offers diverse templates specifically for presentations.

Canva has a freemium version with pretty good features, but the subscription offers a good bang for your buck. While PowerPoint offers 600 fonts, Canva offers 3000. Keep reading our blog on how to use Canva the complete guide to know more about. It supports various formats, though not as much as PowerPoint does. It generates more intuitive and high-quality search results.

Also, if you are to use certain brand logos and themes for your presentations, it has a custom template and custom kit features. It has a much more sophisticated background removal feature. Canva supports mobile presentations in vertical mode.

As Canva is a cloud-based app, you cannot access it offline. Additionally, due to the extensive range of options, and Canva’s broader focus beyond presentations, there is a chance that presentations could become too fancy.

  • Converting slides into a website format
  • Collaborating on design work
  • Pre Recorded narration with presentation
  • More intuitive search results
  • Custom brand-kit feature

4. Zoho Show

Zoho Show

The Zoho Show, though not quite as powerful as the mainstream competitors, is a decent app for making presentations with these presentation apps for Android. It lets you create, collaborate, present, broadcast, and publish presentations. Just like how your presentations should be, this app looks clean and beautiful and is not at all distracting.

Zoho Show supports the import of a variety of files, videos, and audio, putting compatibility concerns to rest. It is a recommendable platform for real-time collaboration. It comes with an array of elements, encompassing diverse chart types, over a hundred shapes, an assortment of formatting choices, filters, animations, and additional features.

Zoho Show enables the publication of presentations on websites, and even allows sharing with non-Zoho users, but granting editing authorization is up to you. All in all, Zoho Show presents a reliable option for those seeking for balanced and user-friendly presentation apps for Android.

Zoho Show provides free access for personal use, although team collaboration necessitates an upgrade. Zoho is also cloud-based, making it not a great option to use when offline.

  • Built-in animations
  • Real-time collaboration feature
  • Safe sharing and publishing feature (website, blog, etc.,)
  • Import and Export Functionalities

Not to be left behind, Apple launched its own presentation app called Keynote. As is pretty common with most Apple apps, Keynote is only available for iOS and macOS platform. So much for cross-platform compatibility. Apple released Keynote for iCloud which works on browser so Windows users could use it but the experience is not the same. Keynote comes with a lot of animations and graphics that you can use in your presentation slides.

There are themes, templates, fonts, colors, and backgrounds to choose from. Not to be left behind, Google launched its own office suite of productivity apps including Slides, a presentation app that works in the browser and mobile apps alike. It got all the features you did expect from a presentation app like fonts, colors, sharing and collaborating features, comments which is present in all GSuite apps, and templates.

Microsoft PowerPoint is the official Android app for one of the most-used programs in the world at a business level: PowerPoint. In the PC version, the program from Microsoft has always been the king of presentations; now, with this app, it's attempting to do the same in Android.

Users of Microsoft PowerPoint can do practically everything in the app that they could with the traditional Windows program: create presentations with as many slides as you want, choose among dozens of different styles and designs, insert text and images, etc. In short, you'll have total freedom when creating presentations.

One of the most interesting options in Microsoft PowerPoint is that you can start a presentation in Android and finish it in Windows. To do so, you just have to sign in with your user account. In addition, of course, you can import or export any PPT or PPX file.

Microsoft PowerPoint is an excellent tool for making presentations and includes all the tools and features you could possibly want.

Mobile productivity for dynamic presentations

Microsoft PowerPoint is a free productivity app developed by Microsoft Corporation that enables you to conveniently access and view your PowerPoint files while on the move. This mobile application provides a suite of familiar tools , allowing you to effortlessly create, edit, and view files and other elements associated with presentations directly on your device.

Microsoft PowerPoint offers the capability to craft visually engaging slideshows for diverse purposes , including school project presentations and business meetings. The software provides pre-designed templates and layouts and the flexibility to seamlessly incorporate charts, music , graphs, and videos into your slides.

What is Microsoft PowerPoint used for?

Microsoft PowerPoint is a mobile application designed for crafting and enhancing presentations . Equipped with robust features , it allows users to fashion professional-looking slides incorporating elements like text , music, and images . The application offers diverse design options, including the choice of customizable pre-made templates, designs, transitions between slides , and animations . Additionally, this valuable tool supports multimedia files , enabling the seamless integration of audio and video elements to enhance the engagement and detail of your presentations.

Packed with valuable features for presenting slides

Within Microsoft PowerPoint, the Presenter Coach feature stands out as an exceptionally interactive tool designed to enhance your presentation skills. Leveraging artificial intelligence , this feature meticulously analyzes and offers feedback on various aspects, including filler words, body language, speech rate, and more. This enables you to practice and refine your presentation before presenting it to an audience. Furthermore, the Presenter Coach feature identifies and highlights informal speech, euphemisms, culturally sensitive terms, and profanity, allowing for additional refinement in your delivery.

Every task you perform in this application is automatically synchronized with your OneDrive account. This functionality enables you to initiate a PC presentation at any time and from any location simply by editing and presenting using PowerPoint mobile. This seamless integration not only adds convenience to your workflow but also provides peace of mind, ensuring you can deliver your presentation without disruptions. PowerPoint facilitates seamless collaboration and provides a user-friendly platform for working collectively with others.

By creating and sharing a slideshow with your team, you can effortlessly gather valuable feedback and incorporate edits. The presentation permissions feature allows you to manage access, and you can easily track the collaborative process by identifying who is working on specific slides. Furthermore, integrated comments on slides enable efficient communication, allowing you to stay informed about changes and feedback in real-time. PowerPoint's collaborative features enhance teamwork and streamline the collaborative editing process, making it a versatile tool for group projects and presentations.

Is Microsoft PowerPoint free on mobile?

The Microsoft PowerPoint app is available for free download and usage, with optional in-app purchases for enhanced features like additional animations, templates, transitions, and other valuable functionalities. Moreover, users can purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription within the app, unlocking the complete Microsoft experience for an enriched presentation and productivity environment. However, despite its array of features, it may present a significant learning curve.

Minor tweaks

A small batch of updates for Microsoft PowerPoint irons out some kinks on specific workflows. Saving a file no longer auto-fills the Title field within the File Info menu, a minor detail yet helpful in managing your files. Plus, working with linked charts from SharePoint gets a lot easier. The Change Source dialog now defaults to the chart's current location , saving you time digging through outdated paths. Finally, the Edit Photo Album option is now accessible in Slide Sorter for quicker photo adjustments while organizing slides.

Free accessibility and optional in-app purchases for advanced features ensure a tailored and enriched user experience. Today slides are used everywhere, which makes slideshow apps practically indispensable. Not only do such apps help to put across ideas in a clear and understandable way, but they also can be a helping hand in creative projects, such as, for example, presenting a set of memorable photos for someone’s birthday, anniversary, etc.

Needless to say, that in order to make a slideshow look great, a one needs to use the best software. That is why we decided to make a list of the most innovative and interesting slideshow apps. Choose the one that is suitable for you and improve the quality of your slideshows!

Slideshow Maker

Scoompa Video logo

This very app cannot boast with the uniqueness or extraordinary features, but it is a reliable tool, using which doesn’t require rocket science. Get it now and dote upon your nearest and dearest with pretty slides!

slideshow maker screenshot

Pixgram is similar to the app above. It is also designed for making video slideshows, but, unlike Slideshow Maker, it allows using not only photos but also videos. By the way, effects and filters can be applied to videos as well.

One of the key features of this app is the access to an online collection of music, so if you don’t have a necessary song on your device, you can easily find it without leaving the app. Pixgram is a fantastic finding for those who are fond of shooting videos. It is also quite handy in use, so by downloading it now you will get an opportunity to turn your videos into something really special without too much effort!

pixgram screenshot

At the start, the app asks for access to the internal storage of the phone. You can select photos to form a video or slideshow – up to 30 pieces in total. The editor built into the utility allows you to arrange the images in the desired order and create a single clip from them.

You can change and adjust the format of the pictures to the desired size. You can apply various filters, as well as change the background. Use a blur effect when transitioning between frames.

Flipagram has a catalog with emoticons. Choose emojis and place them in the frame. Besides, there are funny stickers and captions. Put text on the image and create subtitles. There are several fonts to choose from.

Another useful feature of the app is the ability to overlay music on the video. You can select an audio track from your phone memory. The speed of the finished video can be adjusted. It is saved in a separate folder. It is possible to instantly share the finished clips on social networks and messengers.

Now we are moving on to the apps that are a little bit more complicated than just merging together a bunch of pictures and music. To be more exact, we are going to review a few presentation apps that can serve for educational or professional purposes. The king of such software is probably PowerPoint.

PowerPoint is renowned for its numerous features. It has a significant advantage, which is a familiar interface. The pleasant thing is that now PowerPoint is not only for PCs but also for smartphones and tablets. If you don’t have it already, download this indispensable app right now and start making  and viewing your slides wherever you are!

powerpoint screenshot

Google Slides

google slides icon

Google Slides is almost no different from PowerPoint. It even allows to open, view and edit presentations that are created in PowerPoint. While editing, a one doesn’t have to worry about losing any data – all the modifications made while using the app are automatically saved.

Apart from being simple and familiar, Google Slides has one more significant advantage – it enables several users to work on one presentation at the same time. If you often have to make presentations for your work or for studies, Google Slides is a must-have!

google slides screenshot

Prezi Viewer

prezi icon

We have already reviewed this revolutionary presentation app in this article . And it is certainly worth mentioning again. The idea of Prezi   is to show the whole picture first – like all of the slides at once – and then click on those slides in order to enhance them and reveal their content.

They say that presenting information in such a way is more convenient for our memory because seeing a whole picture on a screen first creates a similar picture in our minds, which makes presented information more ordered and clear.

Prezi Viewer is for looking through the already created presentations. These presentations can also be shared with friends or colleagues via the app. And you can also view presentations made by other users. So try this new method of presenting and getting information and feel the difference!

prezi screenshot android

These were the best slideshow and presentation apps for Android. Use your imagination to the full, create outstanding slides and, as usual, be smart in choosing apps!

VivaVideo logo

You can upload as many pictures as you want and place them in the chronological order in the editor. Then, you can add some text on it, if you want – the app allows the customization of fonts. If you want, you can also add an audio track or music to the background. Overall, VivaVideo is a cool app to create a lightweight presentation.

Smartphone apps

Can your smartphone make you a better speaker?

We use our smartphones for just about everything, and they certainly can help you improve your talks and audience engagement.

A few years ago, we posted an article on the 21 apps that you can use to improve your talks, and today we are updating this list with 10 new, tried and tested apps that can help you master your speaking techniques.

Let’s jump right in.

Create dynamic, visually powerful presentations

1.   Voice Notes + Dictation

Some speakers find it easier to get into the flow and say what they are thinking, rather than write out what they would like to say. Voice Notes is one of the highest-rated free transcription apps and can help you by recording what you say and turning the recording into text. You can work out your content through various renditions of the recording, and then find the flow that will work best for your talk.

2.  KeyNote ,  PowerPoint ,  Google Slides , and  Prezi

All of your favorite slide creation platforms: KeyNote, PowerPoint, Google Slides and Prezi, are available as smartphone apps. Create and change your presentation on the go, keep them on hand so you can practice your talk anywhere, and have an immediate backup in case the tech fails at your next event.

KeyNote on  Android  |  iOS

PowerPoint on  Android  |  iOS

Google Slides on  Android  |  iOS

Prezi on  Android  |  iOS

While PowerPoint has been a keystone for many presentations for years, below are two newer apps which can help you create visually compelling slides that integrate video, images, and audio flawlessly, while you are on the go.

3. FlowVella

Flowvella has been created specifically for iPhones and iPads, and is one of the best new platforms for creating fully integrated and interactive presentations. It has been specifically designed and developed for tablet usage, and uses smart gesture technology. It allows you to flawlessly integrate media from all kinds of different sources so you never get caught awkwardly waiting for a video to connect or being forced to screenshot or open a PDF to include in the presentation.

4. Haiku Deck

Haiku Deck makes the most beautifully-designed presentations. It is near impossible to make an unattractive presentation with this tool. It is only available as an app: which is perfect if you are on the go or your smartphone is your go-to device. If you are looking for a simple, easy tool that makes gorgeous slides, this is the one for you.

Android | iOS

John Medina, a developmental molecular biologist and lecturer at the University of Washington, says that our brains will inevitably start to get bored after a mere 10 minutes , and by changing up the content style every 7-10 minutes, you can keep your audience engaged throughout your entire presentation. With Powtoon, you can create short informational animations that can help explain a specific point or an in-depth piece of information; keeping your audience engaged while still getting your idea across.

6. AIO Remote

Turn your Android smartphone into a presentation remote with the All In One Remote. All you need do is sync the presentation with the app and desktop app and you are ready to go. Integrates with Windows, Linux and Mac, and you can control any application on your computer through WiFi or Bluetooth. And it’s free!

Practice makes perfect

Practice makes perfect_SpeakerHub

There is a fine line between over- and under-practicing your speech. Practice your talk until you know all your main points without hesitation, but still sound conversational and flexible.

Stop using filler words and improve your pronunciation

Most people use filler words like “um” and “ah” when they are speaking. However, when on stage this can be very distracting for your audience. Download the Ummo app to get a handle on your “ums” and “ahs”. The app records your speech, then generates a transcript highlighting where you used filler words. This way you can tackle making sure you omit them from your future talks.

This app was designed for non-native English speaker and speakers who struggle with speech impairments. Created by two international engineering students at Drexel University, Orai records your talk and gives you instant, action-oriented feedback which will help you to improve your pronunciation, pauses and energy levels, while offering speaking tips to help you improve the flow and make your talks more understandable.

This app will help you practice taking filler words out of your speaking. While Ummo will help you with your specific talk, what happens when you need to answer a question? The app will help you practice eliminating these words in unpracticed speech. There are two games: TalkAbout and FreeStyle, which record you speaking about various topics. The app monitors how many times you use filler words and gives you a detailed report to track your progress.

Timing is everything

Timing is everything

Timing can make or break a performance — as anyone who has sat in on a session that has overrun by 20 minutes knows.

These next apps will help you manage your timing and pacing. From establishing good speaking rhythms to countdown clocks, these apps will help you go with the flow and stay on time.

A teleprompter “prompts” you with a visual text of your presentation. It allows you to read the text word-for-word ensuring consistent and accurate speech while maintaining the illusion of spontaneity.

10. iPrompt Pro

iPrompt Pro is one of the most intuitive teleprompting apps. It has a lot of options: from colour choices to scrolling speeds. It also has in-app text editing and timing changes, which is ideal for making changes as you are practicing. Although, there is some heavy advertising on the app (which can be quite tiresome) it is a low-cost, flexible app that has a lot to offer.

11. Teleprompt +3

Teleprompt +3  is a simple and well-designed app that has incredible options that will help you practice your talk. The timer tools are very helpful for ensuring your session runs on time. Tools like the audio and video recorder, rich text editor, and intuitive speed control help you make your talk look and sound natural. This is one of the more expensive apps, but if you are looking for a tool that will go above and beyond your expectations for a teleprompter, this is it.

12. Prompster

Prompster is smoothly-designed and provides readable text for all sorts of audible presentations, including talks, lectures, and sermons. You can create or import your documents, record your presentation (pro version), and share your talk with your audience via email. The onscreen controls allow you to set your text size and speed easily. If you are looking for a great tool to practice with, this is a tried-and-true app. It was voted iPhoneLife Magazine’s Best Public Speaking and Presentation App.

13. Teleprompter Pro Lite

Teleprompter Pro (both Lite and Premium) are very responsive and easy to use. You can type in or import your talk, then select your font, text size, and pace. The app continuously highlights where you are in the script so you won’t get lost. You can share your scripts on all of your devices: ideal for setting up your backup solutions. You can export prompt files using AirDrop or email. The Pro version also has a video recording function, which is perfect for watching your practices and making improvements.

Normal conversational speech ranges between approximately 120-200 words per minute, and listening to someone speak outside of this range can be difficult.

For example, an auctioneer can speak upwards of 400 words per minute, but listening to someone speak for 20 minutes in this range will befuddle and irritate any audience. On the other hand, speaking at less than 110 wpm will cause the audience to get bored and tune out.

Speech rate guidelines:

Slow: less than 110 wpm

Conversational: between 110 wpm and 160 wpm.

Fast: more than 160 wpm

Radio hosts and podcasters tend to speak at 150-160 wpm.

Auctioneers and commentators speak between 250 and 400 wpm.

Using a metronome can help you set your pace, but don’t forget to vary your pace — keeping it too even will sound monotonous, so play around with your pacing until it is in the right range while still sounding natural.

14. Metronome Beats

Metronome Beats has easy-to-use controls for increasing and decreasing the tempo in small increments. The visual beat indicators help you to keep track, and it is easy to mute the metronome while visually monitoring your tempo.

15. Pro Metronome

Pro Metronome was created for all kinds of stage performers, including musicians, to improve their rhythm. It is a fantastic app for public speakers who are working on their pacing. This app has a variety of ways to keep your tempo: from screen color changes to vibrations and sounds.

Timers and Clocks

It is so easy to lose track of how long you’ve been on stage. Being able to keep your talk on time is crucial. It keeps you from waffling on and ensures that the whole event runs in a timely manner.

Having a timer will help you keep your presentation flowing on time.

16. Amber Light Speech Timer

Modeled after a traffic light, this app helps you figure out where you are in your talk and how long you have left to get your point home. A green light displays for the introduction and body of your talk and it changes to amber when you are getting close to the end, and red when your time is up. The app is easy to use and allows you to custom-set your time frames. You can even change the alarm to a vibration if you are keeping it in your pocket onstage.

17. Toastmaster Timer

This app was originally designed for those who play the “Timer”, the individual in Toastmaster’s meetings who signals to the speaker when it is time to finish. It is a superb, free option for practicing. The timer is simple to use and has been designed specifically for speakers. It also uses the traffic light system but has slightly less customizable options than the Amber Light Speech Timer.

18. SpeakerClock

The SpeakerClock was inspired by the famous countdown clock that is used at TED conferences. The LED-style countdown clock is easy to see, even from a distance, so you are free to move around on stage. This app has a great design, and also includes a traffic-light-style feature that alerts you when it is time to get to your conclusion.

Keep your pre-performance jitters under control

Keep your pre-performance jitters under control

While the above apps are practical and skills-focused, they don’t address one of the greatest challenges when speaking — stage fright.

Where a little bit of pre-stage anxiety is normal, if it tips into too much, it can have a detrimental effect and potentially ruin your talk.

These next few apps will help you manage your stress levels and bring your heart-rate back down. Helping you get your message out clearly and confidently.

19. Confident Public Speaking Now

This app is part guided meditation and part stress-relief training. It offers meditation-style hypnosis sessions, like “Relax Completely” and “Total Relaxation in 10 minutes”. It also offers video interviews on what causes, and how to deal with, stress. It aims to teach you how to enjoy small doses of stress and gives you some tools to help you deal effectively with anxiety.

20. Public Speaking by HiveBrain

Sometimes, all you need is some soothing, confidence-boosting words to get you in the right headspace. Dr Andrew Johnson's guided meditation / self-hypnosis program will help you relax and minimize the anxiety of speaking in front of crowds.

21. VirtualSpeech's Public Speaking

One of the most interesting new apps for public speakers helps you by putting you on a virtual stage. Upload your presentation, then practice in front of a fake audience. The app requires a virtual headset, but its 3D, realistic-looking scenarios can be very helpful in getting a handle on being in front of a group.

22. Insight Timer

With over 4.5K free guided meditations from over 1K meditation practitioners, and over 750 meditation music tracks, you will be able to find something that will help you stay calm. You can even customize your meditation using the background sounds and meditation tool intervals, so you have something that is specific to your needs and fits into your pre-performance routine.

23. Headspace

While not specific to public speaking, Headspace is a great way to learn more about meditation and start regular practice. The free trial helps you relax for 10 minutes a day for 10 days with guided exercises and lessons, and includes a personalized progress page, reward system for continued practice, and can even hook you up with a buddy to help ensure you stick to the practice. All the while being fun, light, and engaging.  It is one of the top-rated apps on both iTunes and Android.

Calm offers a wide range of guided meditations to help you relax. Meditations of various lengths can help with building self-esteem and calming anxiety. There are also breathing exercises, unguided meditations, and more than 25 soothing sounds to help calm your nerves.

Interact with your audience

Interact with your audience_SpeakerHub

The next set of apps are all geared towards helping you engage with your audience while on stage.

Audience engagement

25. EngageNow

EngageNow lets you design attractive-looking polls and quizzes that empower the audience to interact with the big screen during an event. It can also be used to crowdsource questions or open up chat around the event in order to spark debate and connect audience members with each other.

26. Glisser

Glisser is a “complete package” when it comes to audience engagement. Within a few seconds they can visit your unique URL, see and download your slides, write personal notes, share content on social media; participate in polls and live Q+As, vote on content, or offer feedback. Even if you only incorporate a few of these features into your next presentation, yours will be miles ahead of the average presentation.

27. BuzzMaster

BuzzMaster takes the idea of polling to the next level and is perfect if you’d like to engage your audience in a more holistic debate about a topic. BuzzMaster encourages your audience to have an active role in sharing experiences during the event. These interactions are perfect for fueling inspiring debates and giving the audience members a distinct voice, providing you with valuable insight. Companies like Google, ASML, Microsoft, ABN-AMRO, and KPMG have been using BuzzMaster in their conferences to better engage their audiences.

28. Poll Everywhere Presenter App

Poll Everywhere has been around for some time and is still one of the best apps on the market for polling your audience. Audience members can participate through the app, text message, web browser, or Twitter, and the results are ready to display instantly. Use it as a standalone polling app alongside your presentation or integrate it directly into your PowerPoint with the software Poll Everywhere.

29. Mentimeter

Instantly and seamlessly interact with your audience by having them vote in real-time. Your audience does not have to sign-up or download anything. They only need to visit the website on their device, punch in the code unique to your presentation, then watch the stats tally instantly on a beautiful display. Mentimeter is a mobile voting app that lets you show the results live with real-time graphs and charts. Able to handle over 30,000 votes per minute, it can work for small events or big ones.

The app provides many different question/response formats such as multiple-choice, open-ended, rating scale and word clouds, and you can style it with your branding.

Q&A Apps

Slido has many of the same tools as the other apps mentioned in this section but has an interesting variation to the Q+A element for audience engagement. The audience can vote to discuss popular questions so that you can answer the ones that affect the most members. The questions can then be vetted by you on stage or by event organizers; saving a lot of time while giving your audience the feeling that they are connected to others who share the same thoughts.

31. Crowd Mics

Crowd Mics allows attendees to use their own phones as wireless microphones. Their questions can easily be amplified without the need to walk up to the microphone or have a runner try to access them. Your audience can also participate with text comments, questions, and live polling.

There has been a slew of new apps developed that can help you give better presentations, as presentation skills become more important for professionals across all industries.

From platform which will help you create visually stunning presentation slides , to tools which will train you on perfecting your pace and timing—there is an app for that.

While none of the tools can get up stage and do your talk for you, they can help smooth out the rougher bit, helping you tweak and perfect your talk.

Accessories

Tips and tools for making awesome presentations on android tablets.

While most communicators doing presentations with a tablet will likely go with an iPad , some of us prefer the Android platform and want to do all that iPad users can do. It’s not as easy to conveniently do good presentations on Android tablets as it is on an iPad, but with some effort, a great app, and a few accessories, communicators can get their message across with skill and professionalism.

See how simple it is to connect a Samsung tablet to a display using Screen Mirroring:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xJYFYJhWcc

An Android presenter will need a few things in addition to a good tablet. First, find a good app to create and edit presentations on a tablet. Second, a good way to display the content so others can learn from the presentation. I’ll also talk about connecting the tablet and display. Finally, get some tips for making good presentations.

Hardware Needed to Display a Presentation

To get started, presenters need to get a large HDTV or a video projector. People who don’t own either should get at least a 50-inch HDTV or a modern projector with HDMI inputs. A TV will work in a small medium-sized room. Use a bright projector in larger rooms.

insignia 50-inch hdtv

This cheap Insignia 50-inch HDTV from Best Buy does a great job of mirroring an Android tablet display.

Ambient lighting affects the choice as well. Bright rooms will wash out the display of most inexpensive projectors, so opt for a large HDTV or a projector with a high l umens count of at least 3000 for medium light, or 5000 for very bright rooms. Lumens refers to how bright the projector display images. The larger the number, the brighter the projector, normally. Some manufacturers are dishonest, pumping this number higher than their products actually output, so also look at the c ontrast on the projector. Higher contrast shows off images and text better and doesn’t require as bright a projector. If possible, try the projector out, or get one from a place that lets you return it if it’s not bright or sharp enough.

asus pocket projector

The ASUS Pocket Projector is extremely portable, but not bright enough for bright rooms.

In a dark room a presenter can use a cheap $500 projector. It’s more portable than a TV, but good enough to show off the images in the presentation. Some “pico projectors” will even work in very dark situations, like the above ASUS Pocket Projector ($399.99). These miniature projectors make for extremely portable solutions, but they usually don’t provide enough brightness for most rooms. They only work in a very dark room.

To choose the right sized display, head over to the  Projector Central’s display size calculator  to learn the proper size screen for a specific size room, or grab a little $.99 app called HDTV Calculator that does the same thing, but on an Android device.

HDTV Calculator for Android

HDTV Calculator for Android helps people learn what size display fits best in a specific sized room.

Choosing a Presenter’s Tablet

android tablets

Here’s our list of the best Android tablets available today:

  • Google Nexus 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4
  • LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition
  • ASUS Tablet TF701T-B1

samsung galaxy tab pro 8.4 v lg g pad 8.3

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and LG G Pad 8.3 are two of the best Android tablets available.

All of the above tablets will do a great job. We picked them for a few reasons:

  • Great displays
  • Decent price
  • Most are popular enough to offer plenty of accessories like cases and chargers
  • All are powerful enough to run presentation and video apps
  • The ASUS comes with a keyboard dock that extends the battery life

The size of the screen matters, so go with a 7 or 8 inch tablet, like the Nexus 7, the LG G Pad 8.3 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 for more portability. People with poor eyesight will need a larger 10-inch screen. like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition or the ASUS Tablet TF701T-B1. Some presentation apps will let the user display the current slide, the next slide and some presenter’s notes on the tablet while the external display only shows the active slide. If a presenter picks an app like that, they should also choose a larger screen. If the app only mirrors the display, meaning it shows the same thing on the tablet and the external display, then a smaller tablet will do fine for people with good eyesight.

Making the Connection Between Tablet and Display

Connecting the tablet to the display using a cable simplifies the hookup process. This only works if the person making the presentation stands or sits close to the TV or projector. If that’s not possible, the presenter can find a long cable.

slimport adapter

Nexus 7 and LG G Pad 8.3 users will need one of these Slim-port adapters because regular MHL to HDMI adapters don’t work.

To make this connection the user needs an adapter that plugs into the micro-USB port on the tablet. The Nexus 7 and the LG G Pad 8.3 both require what’s called a Slim-port adapter, like one we found on Amazon for $16  (see above). This doesn’t work with the older Nexus 7 2012 model.

bluerigger high speak micro hdmi to hdmi cable

Get a cheap micro-HDMI to HDMI cable for the ASUS tablet like this Bluerigger cable.

The ASUS comes with a micro-HDMI out port, so just find a cheap cable with that on one end and regular HDMI on the other, like the one above that costs less than $10 .

Both Samsung tablets require a different kind of adapter from the Slim-port Adapter or the micro-HDMI to HDMI cable. Do a search for MHL to HDMI adapter to find a cable that connects the micro-USB to the projector or TV. Amazon sells one for $13 .

Whichever cable or adapter you get, plug it into the micro-USB port on the tablet. For the adapters, plug a regular HDMI cable into the adapter and the other end into the display. In the case of the ASUS use one cable to go directly from the tablet to the display.

Some older TVs or projectors don’t include HDMI. I’d get a new one or look for an adapter that will connect an HDMI to whatever ports the display offers.

tronsmart t1000 wireless hdmi adapter

The Tronsmart T1000 hooks up to an HDMI port and connects to Wi-Fi to let users display their tablet on the screen wirelessly.

A more convenient, but also more complicated, way of making the connection uses wireless to connect to the display. A solution called Miracast does a nice job. Some displays come with Miracast support built-in. If the display doesn’t, then use an inexpensive adapter like the  Tronsmart T1000 HDMI wireless adapter  (see above) that supports Miracast. I’ve tested it with a Kindle Fire HDX 7, Google Nexus 7 and both of the Samsung tablets in our list above. It should also work with the ASUS and the LG. With it, users can mirror their screen to the display wirelessly and show a presentation using a presentation app. It works with many smartphones too.

Here’s a video demo from the company about using the Tronsmart T1000.

Using the Samsung tablet, open Screen Mirroring  by swiping down from the top of the screen. Tap and hold on Screen Mirroring from the row of Settings icons that appear at the top of the notification area. This opens the Connections tab inside Settings. Turn Screen Mirroring on by tapping the on/off switch in the upper right corner. Tap on Scan above the switch and let it look for devices, and when the Tronsmart appears tap on it to connect. See below for an example on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.

Setting up wireless mirroring on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

To set up wireless mirroring over the Tronsmart T1000, open Settings and tap the Connections tab. Screen mirroring is at the bottom on the left.

The Google Chromecast , which also connects to an HDMI port and uses a Wi-Fi network to stream content from tablets and smartphones to a TV, doesn’t support Screen Mirroring. That’s why  the Tronsmart T1000 does presentations better than a Chromecast.

People who already own a Chromecast can use still it, although not as elegantly. Instead of running a powerful presentation app, create slides in a graphics editing app or program. Find pictures and put text on them as needed. Save the images in order starting the names with double digit numbers like 01 and 02 and so on. Save them to the phone or in a folder that syncs with a service like DropBox. Display them using an app that will cast images to the Chromecast. Users could also create the presentation using a PDF maker and then cast the PDF file to the Chromecast. More on that below.

Best Android Presentation Apps

Microsoft just released their Microsoft Office Mobile for Android , but it requires an Office 365 subscription if a user wants to edit files on their mobile device. It also doesn’t run on any of the tablets I tested it with. So, look to another solution.

polaris office 5 presentations

Polaris Office 5 comes pre-installed on lots of tablets and offers some nice features like onscreen notes and a pointing too.

Lots of tablet makers bundle Polaris Office with their devices or get it free on Google Play . Create presentations on a mobile device and import or export them using Google Drive, SugarSync, DropBox or Box. This makes it easy to get a file off a computer and onto the tablet. It includes the following advanced presentation features:

  • On-screen drawing/note-taking feature to mark up a presentation
  • Virtual laser pointer to highlight slide content while presenting
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint compatibility
  • Add presenter notes

Here are a few other great Android presentation apps that run PowerPoint files well:

  • Docs to Go – Free and premium  ($14.95) versions with speaker notes and PowerPoint compatibility.
  • QuickOffice –  QuickOffice  (free) does a decent job of displaying presentations, it’s free and interfaces with Google Drive since  Google bought the app  and made it free. Users can create, edit and show very simplistic presentations.
  • Google Drive – Drive  (free) won’t let users work with PowerPoint files yet, but if a user creates a Presentation in Google Drive on their computer, they can view the presentation on their tablet. We hope this will change when Google finally gets around to releasing a Presentation app to go along with the new Docs and Sheets .
  • SoftMaker Office 2012 Presentation – Presentation ($3.45) is a nice PowerPoint alternative with plenty of powerful options, but costs more than the others, except for Docs to Go.

These apps all include sharing features which let the presenter share the presentation file with their audience. Email it to the person or upload it to DropBox and create a public share link . Do it before the presentation and put the link on the last slide. Google Driver uses can share files too .

AllCast is an  app for Chromecast users (see video demo above from the maker). There’s a free version and a premium version that costs $5 . It won’t display presentation files from PowerPoint or Google Drive, but it will show images and PDF files. Create the presentation by making image files on a computer or an app. Then save them in the order as discussed above using double digit numbers. Users can also create a PDF document formatting the pages to fit their display’s resolution. Then use AllCast to display the PDF file.

Tips for Good Presentations

I posted tips on making good presentations a while back. The keys to a great presentation include:

  • What does this mean?
  • What does it look like?
  • Is it true?
  • Images support the presenter – Don’t get caught in the trap of relying on the presentation as the key communication tool. The presenter is the key communicator and the presentation should only support the presenter’s words.
  • More pictures and fewer words – Don’t put full outlines on-screen. Avoid long quotes. Use images to communicate ideas, not typed out sentences. Use fewer than ten words per slide at most and fewer than five works better. Keep fonts large so they fill the screen but also include plenty of space around the words to keep it from looking cluttered. Use short phrases instead of long quotes.

One word concepts work better than long sentences.

Does Android Office have something like a presenter’s mode, or is there something you’ve got to do to tell the phone to send out data via its USB port? I’m trying to show my presentations (powerpoint, but pdf would do) using a Galaxy S3, and I’ve bought an MHL-to-VGA adapter (a Chinese make, I got it because it specifically said ‘for Galaxy S3’), but the beamer doesn’t get a signal. Any ideas?

PowerPoint from Microsoft Office Mobile for Android has a presenter mode BUT, it’s one of the features that requires an Office 365 subscription to activate it.

Video: Getting started with PowerPoint for Android tablet

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

PowerPoint for Android tablet is so similar to the PowerPoint you already know. But there are some slight differences when using an Android tablet. This video will show you a handful of tips to get up and running.

Key points in this video

To start typing, double tap a text box.

Nexus Back button

To start the slide show, tap Slide Show , and then tap From Beginning . Swipe from right to left to go forward. Swipe left to right to go backward.

To end the show, swipe down in the middle of the slide. Then tap, End Show .

[Introduction music]

Let’s go over some basics to get you started with PowerPoint for Android tablet.

I double tap to start typing in a text box, and then double tap again to type inside the next box.

When I’m done typing, I tap my tablet’s Back button to hide the keyboard. My Back button looks like this…but yours might look something like this, depending on your tablet.

Here are a couple of more tips for getting around and selecting things.

When I need to put my cursor in an exact spot within the text, I double tap the text box, tap and hold the cursor, and then drag it to where I need it.

To select just one word, I double tap the text box, and then double tap again.

When I need to select more words, I can tap and drag the selection handles.

The keyboard does take up some space. So if I want, I can hide the tabs at the top to give me more room.

And I can always bring them back.

The Edit menu is where the Cut, Copy and Paste buttons are.

Keep in mind that you can also use it for whole slides.

In fact, I’ll use it now to copy and paste this slide.

So I’ve got the hang of typing and editing, now I want to insert stuff. I can do that on the Insert tab.

You’ll see many of your favorite buttons here, including Shapes.

Here’s a tip for working with shapes:

After inserting one, tap somewhere else to deselect it, then zoom in close.

Tap to select it, drag it into place, then change it even more.

When I’m done, I zoom out, and then tap away to deselect the shape and see my work.

Now let’s go over Slide Show view. To start it, I’ll go to the Slide Show tab and then tap, From Beginning .

I swipe forward through the slides, just like I would if I were turning pages in a book.

I can tap and hold to get a laser pointer.

And swipe down to see other tools.

Now I can draw on the screen, and tap here to end the show.
