Pre-Admission Course Requirements For NUR.AAS Program

The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Nursing Technology is a selection-based program, meaning a student must APPLY to the program and then be SELECTED into the program before being able to meet graduation requirements.

STNA certification required.

All Applicants to the A.D.N Plan of Study must first successfully meet admission criteria set by COTC.

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) has four campuses in total: one in Newark, one in Coshocton, one in Knox and one in Pataskala – all of which have different degrees on offer. There are 50 associate degrees available at COTC, in general.

Most students choose to go to COTC in order to gain applicable and hands-on experience for the real world. What makes COTC unique, though, is the fact that they have four campuses in the region. However, they also have online classes for their students’ convenience.

Central Ohio Technical College – Nursing Technologies

The Nursing Technologies program provides students with the skills that they need in order to become a nurse. Graduates will not just join the working world and become productive after graduating, but they will also be able to continue their education in order to earn more advanced degrees if they wish.

The Nursing Technologies program at COTC has been fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and the Higher Learning Commission. It is also a member of the North Central Association and has been approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Nursing Technology – Registered Nursing Associate Degree Nursing   (ADN)

This program offers the traditional study plan option of two years and includes both nursing and general education courses. However, the available spaces are very limited in this program and selections will be made competitively four times a year.

Students will need to complete 4 credit hours of Composition I, 5 credit hours of College Algebra and 1 credit hour of Principles of Computing with a minimum grade of C before they can be admitted to the program. After that, every nursing course will need to be followed sequentially according to the plan of study given to them.

Nursing Technology, One Year Certificate Program in Practical Nursing

This program exists offers a study plan option of one year and includes both nursing and general education courses. Graduates will be given a practical nursing certificate and will be able to take the exam to become a licensed practical nurse.

Students will need to complete 5 credit hours of Introduction to Biology and 5 credit hours of Introduction to Algebra with a minimum grade of C before they can be admitted to the program. After that, every nursing course will need to be followed sequentially according to the plan of study given to them.

Nursing Technology, COTC Certificate in State Tested Nurse Aid Program (STNA)

Before joining the STNA program, students need to have had formal courses in basic skills of healthcare at an actual hospital or clinic, and get in touch without eh Ohio Department of Health first in order to find out whether they have enough training and experience to quality for the program to begin with.

Students need to be at least 16 years of age in order to enroll in this program and will need to finish 5 credit hours and 8 contact hours in Basic Health Care Skills.
