On the other hand, we’re using several third party tools to help us run our website with all its functionality.

But what exactly are cookies? Cookies are small bits of information which get stored on your computer. This information usually isn’t enough to directly identify you, but it allows us to deliver a page tailored to your particular needs and preferences.

Because we really care about your right to privacy, we give you a lot of control over which cookies we use in your sessions. Click on the different category headings on the left to find out more, and change our default settings.

Thanks to these cookies, we can count visits and traffic sources to our pages. This allows us to measure and improve the performance of our website and provide you with content you’ll find interesting.

Performance cookies let us see which pages are the most and least popular, and how you and other visitors move around the site.

All information these cookies collect is aggregated (it’s a statistic) and therefore completely anonymous. If you don’t let us use these cookies, you’ll leave us in the dark a bit, as we won’t be able to give you the content you may like.

We use these cookies to uniquely identify your browser and internet device. Thanks to them, we and our partners can build a profile of your interests, and target you with discounts to our service and specialized content.

On the other hand, these cookies allow some companies target you with advertising on other sites. This is to provide you with advertising that you might find interesting, rather than with a series of irrelevant ads you don’t care about.

Want to add a new section to your resume or improve an existing one? Brush up your LinkedIn resume with our AI Resume Rewriter. It can refine your resume and rewrite it in language that is professional and specific to your industry. Learn more about our AI Resume Rewriter.

Import your LinkedIn, get a resume. Then use our AI tools to make it better.

If you’ve already got a polished LinkedIn profile, why go through the same writing process again with your resume? After all, a good LinkedIn profile and a good resume have a lot in common. You can use that!

Simply import your LinkedIn profile to Kickresume and turn it into a sleek professional CV.

You can then use our AI toolkit to rewrite your resume , check it for errors with our resume checker , and even make it look super professional with our stunning resume templates . That is, if you feel like making your resume a bit more ‘extra’ and job-winning.

What are the benefits? Why import your LinkedIn profile instead of building a resume from scratch?

The following only apply if you’ve already got a good LinkedIn profile. But that shouldn’t be a problem — every ambitious job seeker should already have one!

In any case, here are some obvious and less obvious benefits of using our super easy LinkedIn-to-resume converter.

  • Save time. You don’t have to write a resume from scratch. You can use the content from your LinkedIn profile.
  • Done in a single press of a button. It’s quick and easy. Simply enter your profile’s url and press “Import”.
  • It doesn’t end with importing the profile. You can (but don’t have to) use a wide array of our tools to give your resume an edge over others — you can scan it for improvements, get AI feedback, quickly generate a tailored cover letter, rewrite it with AI, and more.
  • Tailor your resume to every job application. Any LinkedIn profile has one drawback — it’s one size fits all. A resume can be tailored to each job you apply to, which we would strongly advise you to do if you really want to land that job.

All in all, converting your LinkedIn profile into a resume gives you a good way out if you don’t want to waste time writing your resume from scratch. It’s quick, easy, and highly recommended!

How to download your resume from LinkedIn then? Is it just a single click and that’s it?

Yes! And no. But mostly yes! The thing is, there’s both a technical side and a content side to it.

While the technical side is pretty straightforward and quick, the content side of converting your LinkedIn profile to a resume can be a bit tricky. But that, of course, all depends on your profile.

How to download your resume from LinkedIn then?

  • Go to the top of our LinkedIn profile to resume converter web page (you can also simply scroll up, it’s this very web page)
  • Enter your LinkedIn profile’s address, and press the “Convert to Resume” button.
  • Review your newly imported LinkedIn resume, pick an ATS-friendly template, use our AI Writer to rewrite it, analyze it with our resume checker — Kickresume gives you plenty of tools to make your LinkedIn resume stand out.

However, you probably wouldn’t want to stop there. Your LinkedIn profile — and, by extension, your newly imported resume — probably isn’t yet tailored to a specific job opening. Leaving it as such would be a missed opportunity.

This is how to create a resume from your LinkedIn profile:

  • Open your LinkedIn profile.
  • Select your profile’s public url (e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/in/your_name/) and press Ctrl+C (on Windows), or Command+C (on MacOS).

How can I improve the resume I exported from LinkedIn?

Don’t forget to make at least some changes to your newly imported LinkedIn resume.

For instance, your resume can usually benefit from minor formatting changes , as some of the original LinkedIn formatting can get lost during the importing process.

You should also remove any LinkedIn-specific phrases from your new resume. You might not want phrase like “Let’s connect” or “Open to opportunities” appear on your resume.

Add resume-specific sections , such as hobbies or skills, and finally, tailor your new resume to each specific job opening you’re applying for.

Customize your resume’s visuals. You can choose from 40+ templates, explore more than one million design combinations, and make your resume more you.

Finally, you can even let AI rewrite your entire resume  using our AI Resume Rewriter . It’s easy to use and it will rewrite your resume in a language that sounds more professional.

I’ve created a resume from my LinkedIn profile. Can I download it for free?

Yes, you can. While it’s true that not all resume templates and customization options are free (we need to make money somehow), there are still several high-quality resume templates available.

At the end of the day, yes, you can download a full-fledged professional resume for free . Just make sure to avoid any features that are clearly marked with the “Premium” badge inside the app.

On the other hand, if you decide that you like the premium templates better — and would like to land your dream job faster with the help of Kickresume — you can always upgrade to Premium . We offer well-priced plans for every type of customer.

Now that I've created a resume from LinkedIn, what next?

After creating your resume from LinkedIn, here are a few steps you can take:

  • You can export the ready-to-use resume and start applying to jobs right away.
  • Try our  Resume Checker  tool to get instant feedback on your resume. It scans for any issues and compares your resume against others in our database, helping you improve it further.
  • You can explore your career options with our  Career Map  tool. It offers personalized career paths tailored to your background and experience. Just upload your resume and complete a short questionnaire, and you'll receive a career map with potential roles, including salary information and a quick overview of each occupation, so you know exactly what to expect.
  • Upgrade your resume using our AI Resume Rewriter . It will rewrite your resume in a language that sounds more professional.

Can I customize the appearance of my new LinkedIn resume?

Yes! You can choose from more than 40 professionally-designed resume templates  and customize each template to your liking.

You can change nearly every part of your new resume. Each template comes with its own set of alternative color schemes and typefaces that were chosen by our expert typographers to complement the overall design.

What’s more, you can also create a cover letter with a design that matches your resume. We always create new templates in resume / cover letter pairs.

Ultimately, there are more than one million possible design combinations for you to explore. The sheer number of customization options gives you the ability to create a resume that stands out from the rest. All within reason, though — no matter how you customize your resume, our designers made sure it will always look good.

I’m having problems converting my LinkedIn to a resume. What should I do?

If you’re having problems converting your LinkedIn profile to a resume, there are two things you can do:

  • Make sure your LinkedIn is filled with enough content.  Remember that an empty profile makes for an equally empty resume. Fill your LinkedIn profile with at least 200 words. For best results, you should have at least the About, Experience, and Education sections of your profile filled with content. The more the merrier.
  • Make sure your profile is not set to private.  Our tool needs to have the ability to access your LinkedIn profile. If your profile is set to private, only your connections can view it. Set your profile to public and try importing your LinkedIn profile again.
  • Make sure that your profile is more than 30 days old.  Sometimes it takes a few days for Kickresume to access your profile. While this usually takes less than the aforementioned 30 days, this time period gives us a bit of an overhead when diagnosing problems related to LinkedIn import.

If you’ve done all of the above and you’re still unable to turn your LinkedIn profile into a resume, please contact our customer support (click the speech bubble icon in the bottom-right corner). Our customer support team is always more than happy to help.

How to generate a resume from your linkedin profile, generate a customized resume from your linkedin profile, bonus tip: download other linkedin members' resumes.

If you already have your work experience listed on your LinkedIn profile, it's easy to get the site to automatically generate a resume for you. Here's how to do it.

All LinkedIn profiles include a button to download the profile as a PDF . This PDF is basically your resume, containing all the experiences you've listed on LinkedIn. This includes your academics, work experiences, and everything else that you have on your profile.

Related: What Is a PDF File (and How Do I Open One)?

To download this quick resume, first, open LinkedIn in a web browser on your computer. When LinkedIn opens, click your profile icon at the top of the site and select "View Profile."

On the profile page, right beneath your profile picture, click the "More" option, and select "Save to PDF."

In a few moments, your browser will start downloading your resume PDF from LinkedIn.

That's all there is to generating a quick automatic resume from LinkedIn, but you might not want to send it exactly as it is to potential employers. In that case, check out the section below.

The resume that you downloaded above includes all the information that you have on your LinkedIn profile. If you want to add, edit, or delete certain sections of the resume, use LinkedIn's resume creation tool. It lets you choose what sections you want to include in or exclude from your resume. When you're happy with the result, you can download it as a PDF to your computer.

To start building your custom resume, open LinkedIn in your web browser. On LinkedIn, click your profile icon at the top-right corner and select "View Profile."

On the profile page, in the section at the top, select "More," and then click "Build a resume." This launches LinkedIn's resume creation tool in your browser.

In the "Select a Resume" pop-up that appears, click the "Create From Profile" button at the bottom.

In the following box that says "Choose your desired job title," click the "Job Title" box, and then enter your current job title. Then, select a title from the suggested options and click "Apply" at the bottom.

You're now on LinkedIn's resume creation tool screen. Here, you can add and exclude whatever information you want in your resume. To add or remove a section in your resume, click the pencil icon next to a section on the page.

The site will open a box with your selected section in it. Here, you can modify the contents of your section and click "Save" at the bottom of the box to save your changes. Or, you can click "Delete" to remove this section from your resume altogether.

When you've finished editing your resume, click "Preview" at the top of the LinkedIn site to preview your resume.

If you're happy with the result, click "More" at the top of the LinkedIn site, and then select "Download as PDF." This will download your resume as a PDF to your computer.

You're all set.

In addition to the ability to download your own resume, you can also download other LinkedIn members' resumes. You don't need to be connected with a member to be able to download their resume, but there's a limit of 200 downloads for others' resumes. (You can download your own resume an unlimited number of times, though.)

To download someone's profile, first, open their profile on LinkedIn . On the profile page, right beneath the cover image (the large image at the top of the page), click the "More" option, and then select "Save to PDF."

Your browser will start downloading a PDF resume of your selected LinkedIn member.

What is a CV and How Does It Compare to a Resume?

To define a CV, let’s first look at a resume, as it is more well-known and widely-used.

A resume (or industry CV to some) is a document used when applying for professional experiences , such as jobs or internships, to give the hiring committee/manager a snapshot of your qualifications. It often includes your contact information, education, work experience, skills and certifications, and references. Resumes are meant to be brief overviews, so they are usually 1-2 pages long with minimum elaboration.

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

An academic curriculum vitae (CV) is a document used when applying for academic experiences, such as graduate school or fellowships, to give the admissions committee a thorough understanding of your academic experience with your chosen field of study. Similarly to a resume, you still include contact information, education, and professional experience, but the CV has areas built in for more elaboration such as: publications, conferences, teaching experiences, honors and awards, etc. Because a CV is a more in-depth document, they tend to be 2+ pages long . The more experience, the longer the CV.

Important Note: pay close attention to your program and university admission requirements. There are some programs (like MBA programs) that require resumes instead of CVs. Likewise, there are some universities that require graduate school resumes instead of CVs. ALWAYS tailor your admissions application to the program/university for which you are applying.

What Should I Include in My CV for Graduate School?

The good thing about a CV is that it allows for more individual tailoring toward your unique experience. There is information you should ALWAYS include and there are definitely things you’ll WANT to include if you can, but you get to choose what gets showcased. We will be detailing below the must have and the most common categories that are included on a CV, but if you have other experiences that don’t quite fit the given categories we provide, adapt your CV to you!

The “Must Have” Categories

  • Name, address, phone number, and email
  • 1-2 sentences on what you are interested in researching at the university
  • Undergrad and post-undergrad education only
  • Include employment that is relevant to what you are applying to do. Don’t put your summer lifeguard job down for your chemistry graduate application!

The “If You Have It, Include It!” Categories

  • Teaching experience
  • Research experience
  • Leadership or collaborative experience
  • Relevant volunteer experience
  • Relevant extracurriculars
  • Publications
  • Conference presentations
  • Fellowships/grants/scholarships
  • Honors and awards
  • Relevant certifications
  • Academic/professional memberships
  • Notable courses

What If I Don’t Have Enough Experience?

We are all unique, so every CV will look different . If you are noticing you do not have the experience you need or want for a category, don’t be discouraged! You have some options.

Option 1 – Leave It Off

The first option is to leave that category off completely. When I applied for my psychology PhD, I did not have any academic research experience even though I knew the admissions committee would be looking for it. What I chose to do instead of making something irrelevant fit was to leave the research category off of my CV and spend more space highlighting my professional work experience and my research interests.

Option 2 – Get the Experience

Another option is to find opportunities to get experience in those areas. If you do not have any conference presentations or any publications, but you know that would benefit your CV, start connecting with some of your professors or even your current employer and ask if there are any opportunities to be involved in those experiences.

Option 3 – Ask!

If you are concerned that your lack of experience will disqualify you from admissions, you can always ask. Reach out to the graduate admissions advisors or a department faculty member and ask if it is a concern and what advice they have for you to gain that experience before you apply. When in doubt, always ask!

How Should My CV Look?

Keep it clean.

The admissions committee has to read A LOT of CVs, so making it harder on them to read will hurt your chances. Your graduate admissions CV is not the time for elaborate fonts, colors, or graphics. You want something that is easy to read and easy to navigate . You have PLENTY of work you need to do on your application, so don’t waste your time trying to format a document. There are a lot of well-formatted, free and paid resume and CV templates that are available online (we have one too! Check it out! ).

Keep It Simple

When writing your CV, write clearly and directly . Start descriptions and bullet points with action verbs and use clear sentence structures focused on one idea. Avoid repeating information (including action verbs), and when revising, take out unnecessary words and phrases.

Keep It Logical

The organization of your CV is ultimately up to you and what you feel best tells your story, but you need to make sure it follows a logical progression . For example, I wouldn’t want to talk about my education experience, go to my volunteer experience, then circle back to my education experience. Chunk like categories as much as possible and introduce broader ideas (education) before getting into the more narrow categories (research and teaching experience).

A final note, when organizing within sections, always follow reverse chronological order with the most recent and relevant experience listed first.

How Can I Make My CV Stand Out?

Here are a few suggestions on how to make your CV stand out:

  • Tailor to the university. Different universities value different traits and different levels of experience. Research the university and the program and take notes on what they are looking for in their current and future grad students. Be sure to highlight those traits and experiences in your CV.
  • Use powerful language. Saying exactly what you mean in a short amount of space with a strong vocabulary and clear sentences communicates to the faculty that written communication is a strength.
  • Focus on your results and accomplishments instead of your responsibilities . For example, instead of saying, “Managed a team of six.” Say, “lead a team of six to become the highest ranking sales team in the company through the implementation of metric analysis.” If you can make your accomplishments and results quantifiable, do it!

Your CV is an incredibly important part of your application for the graduate admissions committee and for you. Not only does it reveal a lot about yourself and your background to the admissions committee, but it is the culminating list of everything you have done to get to this moment. All of the hard work, all of the sacrifice, all of the growth you’ve experienced will be here, on this document, and everything you learn and experience in grad school will only be added to it. Congrats on getting here!

When To Emphasise Critical Thinking On Your Resume.

Job ads for roles across diverse business functions, industries and seniority levels may mention analytical or critical thinking skills.

Recruiters and hiring managers are interested in how well you evaluate, diagnose and determine the best way forward.

This correlates to your ability to overcome problems, develop novel and effective solutions, and set coherent business strategies.

Employers hiring for specific business, IT and finance analyst, research and data scientist positions will want concrete evidence that you can systematically follow processes or use specific software/techniques to analyse, forecast, report and present insights.

What Kinds Of Analytical Thinking Can You Highlight?

Analytical and critical thinking skills can be hard to pinpoint. Everyone who works uses their cognitive skills to process information and solve problems, to some extent.

How can you demonstrate a superior level of perception, reasoning and good judgement? It helps to break down what analytical thinking entails.

Analytical thinkers are good at:

  • Identifying that a problem exists, how to attack a complex issue in a logical sequence, and determining the cause of problems that arise.
  • Gathering the right information, feedback and evidence for review, ensuring it’s actually relevant, of high quality and logically consistent.
  • Interpreting data and information to find patterns, spot trends, and understand relationships/intent, as well as identify knowledge gaps.
  • Forecasting future needs, opportunities, and costs and predicting how events will unfold based on past patterns or seasonal trends.
  • Drawing clear conclusions, making confident decisions/recommendations, clarifying the steps to solve challenges, and presenting information and insights effectively.

So you can see that analytical and critical thinking dovetails with a number of other hard and soft skills you may want to highlight on your resume, such as:

  • Research skills.
  • Data analytics .
  • Creativity .
  • Strategy / leadership .
  • Financial management/budgeting.
  • Problem-solving .
  • Project management.
  • Working well under pressure.
  • Attention to detail .
  • Communication and presentation skills.

(Related: How To List Budgeting Skills On Your Resume .)

As you brainstorm the analytical thinking competencies and achievements to include on your resume, pay attention to the following:

Measurement and research techniques you’ve applied such as:

  • Data modelling , P&L/profitability/cashflow analysis, forecasting.
  • Business/performance reviews, audits, and ROI evaluations.
  • SWOT analysis , competitor, market, policy and regulation analysis.
  • Experiments , trials, testing and proof of concept projects.
  • Consumer , industry or employee research/surveys or benchmarking.
  • Roundtables , workshops and stakeholder interviews/events.

Software and tools you’ve used in analysis or solution development such as:

  • Coding/programming languages like Python, R and SQL.
  • Data warehousing and processing stacks like Snowflake, Azure or Oracle.
  • Excel , Tableau, PowerBI and other data analytics and visualisation platforms.
  • Accounting software, ERPs, HRISs, and other enterprise systems.
  • Google Analytics , SEO tools, and social media monitoring tools.

Activities that required you to present or act on insights such as:

  • Leading annual planning and strategy development.
  • Managing major transformations or client projects.
  • Creating insightful reports, dashboards, presentations.
  • Planning sales, marketing and client engagement tactics.
  • Implementing new systems, processes or business model.
  • Organising team or stakeholder events to share decisions.
  • Developing successful business cases or client proposals.
  • Introducing a new policy, guideline or methodology.
  • Developing white papers, infographics and other content.

How To Make Analytical Skills Shine On Your Resume?

Every skill included on your resume should be relevant to the role you’re applying to, and proven through examples.

Great resumes that land on the top of the callback pile do not simply include a dot point that says ‘Strong analytical skills’.

But as you craft examples that demonstrate your impact — the numbers and outcomes that illustrate your successes — make an effort to weave in language that also explains your analytical or problem-solving approach.

  • How did you identify this was a problem worth prioritising?
  • How did you get a clearer and complete picture of an issue?
  • Which tools, analysis, consultation and comparison methods did you use?
  • How did you overcome knowledge gaps, biases, and assumptions?
  • How did you reach a final decision or develop the best-fit solution?
  • How did you validate, test, enhance and enact your ideas?

Here are some examples of how different types of professionals can showcase analytical thinking skills within accomplishments:

(Related: How To Radically Improve Achievements In Your Resume ).

Depending on the role, it may be valuable to showcase a mix of qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. For example, if you’re vying for an Operations Manager position, you might have:

  • Used statistical methods to understand the relationship between average office overheads compared to regional pricing variations, based on sample data from each geography.
  • Used your judgement to develop a well-received return-to-work policy based on written responses to employee surveys and one-on-one conversations with colleagues.

The breadth of your analytical skills helps position you as a more flexible and creative leader, who can use the right approach depending on the situation and the information available.

After all, leaders are often tasked with making decisions quickly.

You can often tweak your existing examples by calling out critical thinking steps. Here’s an example:

You see how the second example helps the hiring manager understand your capacity to collect and assess information to make effective decisions?

Where To List Analytical Skills On Your Resume.

To give hiring managers the impression that your analytical skills are robust, be sure to allude to your analytical approach and achievements throughout your resume:

  • Your ‘Profile’ or summary section should mention your strongest capabilities related to analysis, problem-solving or data modelling.
  • Your ‘Skills’ or ‘Key Assets’ section should list specific data analytics tools and techniques you’re proficient in and how you’ve used them for critical thinking tasks.
  • Your ‘Work Experience’ section should showcase specific examples of how you made an impact in past roles by applying your analytical approach — focus on tangible results.
  • Your ‘Professional Development’ section should include specific qualifications, courses, memberships, mentoring, or presentations that reinforce your analytical skills.

Employers Are Prioritising Analytical Thinking, So Should You.

A 2023 World Economic Forum report on the future of jobs found analytical thinking was considered a core skill by more companies than any other skill.

It’s also employers’ highest priority for skills training out to 2027.

If you can show that you already have analytical skills, or a strong foundation to build on, you’ll be a more attractive hire in almost every organisation.
