How do I hide the taskbar when in full screen mode?

On other computers the taskbar automatically hides whenever I toggle full screen (e.g. for a Powerpoint presentation or for videos online).

However, on my Windows 10 computer, the taskbar is still visible when full screen is enabled.

I've tried this option and I've tried to go to the task manager to reset the Windows Explorer (I don't have such an app open).

What can I do to hide the taskbar whenever Im in full screen mode?

Powerpoint 2013 – How to Hide the Toolbar in Fullscreen Mode

Putting a presentation into full screen mode in Powerpoint 2013 is a very common method for sharing that presentation with other people.

While there are a limited amount of controls on the screen, you are still able to control the slideshow as needed.

One of the ways that you can navigate in full screen mode is with a small menu that appears at the bottom of the screen. This menu, called the “popup toolbar” is relatively non-intrusive, but you might find that you need to remove it.

Out tutorial below will show you how to find the setting that controls the display of this menu so that you can prevent it from appearing when you enter full screen mode for your presentations.

How to Hide the Popup Toolbar That Appears at the Bottom of a Full Screen Slideshow

The steps in this article will affect the menu that appears at the bottom of the screen when you are watching a slideshow in full screen mode. The menu is gray and somewhat transparent. It is the menu shown in the image below.

Following the steps in this article will remove that menu. You will still be able to right-click on the slideshow to open a different menu, and you will still be able to advance slides with the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Step 1: Open Powerpoint 2013.

Step 2: Click the File tab at the top-left of the window.

Step 3: Click Options at the bottom of the left column.

Step 4: Click the Advanced tab at the left side of the Powerpoint Options window.

Step 5: Scroll down to the Slide Show section of the menu, then click the box to the left of Show popup toolbar to remove the check mark. You can then click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save and apply your changes.

Now that you know how to hide the toolbar in Powerpoint, you can prevent it from blocking you while you are trying to perform tasks in your presentation.

How to Hide the Taskbar in Windows 10

The taskbar in Windows 10 is extremely flexible. You can move it around, combine windows into one icon, and autohide it from your screen entirely. This is particularly useful if you use full-screen applications and want to hide the taskbar when it's not in use.

1. Right-click an empty spot on the taskbar . This will open a menu of options. 

 2. Choose Taskbar settings from the menu . This will open a new window.

3. Toggle on "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" or "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode" depending on the configuration of your PC.

Hide the Taskbar on Some Screens, But Not Others

If you use multiple monitors, you can opt to show the taskbar on just one or across both displays. This is adjusted from the same Taskbar settings menu.

1. Toggle "Show taskbar on all displays" to On or Off , depending on your preference.

2. Select one or both monitors from the drop-down list to choose where the taskbar buttons will appear.

Moving the Taskbar

If you don't like the location of the taskbar, you can move it to any side of the screen.

1. Look for a section called Taskbar location on screen .

If you use a laptop, tablet, or even a desktop computer with a small or medium-sized monitor, you know that screen space is essential. Unfortunately, on displays with modest sizes or low resolutions, that space is quite limited. One of the best ways to get more screen space is to make Windows 10 auto-hide the taskbar when you're not using it. In this article, we are showing you how to hide the taskbar in Windows 10 using the built-in controls from the Settings app. We also have a tool that we created for the same reason, which you can use when the taskbar doesn't hide even though you've made the required settings in Windows 10. Let's get started:

NOTE: To create this tutorial, we used Windows 10 with November Update . The first and last methods we're showing you in this article work for hiding the taskbar both when you're using Windows 10 in desktop mode and tablet mode . The second method applies only to Windows 10 in tablet mode.

The first step in making your taskbar auto-hide in Windows 10 is to right-click (or tap and hold) on an empty space on your taskbar, where no icons are shown, and no apps are pinned. On the contextual menu that shows up, select Taskbar Settings .

This action opens the Settings app and instantly takes you to the Taskbar page from the Personalization category of settings. You can also get here via the long way: open Settings and go to Personalization -> Taskbar .

On the Taskbar page, look for the settings called "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" and "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode." By default, they're both off, meaning that the taskbar is always shown on your screen, both in desktop and tablet mode.

If you want to auto-hide the taskbar in desktop mode, when not in use, enable the "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" switch.

If you want to auto-hide the taskbar in tablet mode, when not in use, enable the "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode" switch.

If you want to hide the taskbar always, regardless of whether you're using your Windows 10 computer or device in desktop mode or tablet mode, enable both switches.

If you're using Windows 10 in tablet mode, there's an even faster way of hiding the taskbar. Tap and hold (or right-click) on an empty space on the taskbar, and then tap (click) on "Automatically hide the taskbar."

Another easy way to make the taskbar hide in Windows 10 is to use a tool that we created for you, called TaskbarHide . Download TaskbarHide using this link or the one at the end of this section. Save it somewhere on your Windows 10 PC, and then double-click or double-tap on it.

When you launch TaskbarHide , the SmartScreen filter warns you that it comes from an untrusted publisher. You get this notification because there aren't that many people downloading and using it. Trust us that it is safe and doesn't harm your computer. It is only a PowerShell script saved as an executable file with a simple graphical user interface.

To be able to use this tool, click or tap on "More info" and then choose to "Run anyway."

When it opens, you should see a small window like the one below. To make the taskbar hide on your Windows 10 PC, click or tap on "Auto-Hide Taskbar." Note that this auto-hides the taskbar both in desktop mode and tablet mode.

Once the setting is applied, you get to see a message informing you that "Taskbar is now set to Auto-Hide."

To set the taskbar to always be visible on your screen, click or tap on "Always Show Taskbar." After the setting is applied, you are shown the message that "Taskbar has been set to Always Show." This setting makes the taskbar visible both in desktop mode and tablet mode.

NOTE: When you use TaskbarHide to set your taskbar to auto-hide or show, the app briefly closes and restarts the explorer process . That's necessary for the settings to be applied; otherwise, you would have had to restart your PC. The Windows taskbar is great for quickly accessing frequently used applications on your computer. However, some users prefer to hide it in order to save screen space. Here's how to hide the taskbar on Windows 10.

To automatically hide your taskbar, right-click anywhere on your PC's desktop and select "Personalize" from the pop-up menu.

The "Settings" window will appear. In the left-hand pane, select "Taskbar." From here, toggle the slider to "On" under "Automatically Hide The Taskbar In Desktop Mode." If your PC is able to switch over to tablet mode, you can hide the taskbar by toggling that option to "On," as well.

You can also right-click the taskbar and select "Taskbar Settings" to access the same Settings window, if you prefer that.

Your taskbar will now automatically hide. This means that, unless you get a notification from an app in the taskbar or you hover your mouse over where the taskbar should be, it won't show up.

You can undo these settings by toggling the sliders back to the "Off" position.

If you're feeling like a hacker, you can also toggle the auto-hide option between on and off by running commands using the Command Prompt .

First, open the Command Prompt by typing "command prompt" in the Windows Search bar and then select the "Command Prompt" app from the search results.

In Command Prompt, run this command to toggle the taskbar automatically hide option to on:

And to toggle the taskbar auto-hide option to off, run this command:

You may have noticed that the command we used in Command Prompt actually invoked PowerShell first. You can skip the middleman and just run it with PowerShell directly, if you want.

Search for "PowerShell" in the Start menu search, then launch it. It doesn't need to be run as administrator, but it won't hurt anything if you do.

To auto-hide your taskbar, copy and paste the following command into PowerShell:

$p='HKCU:SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3';$v=(Get-ItemProperty -Path $p).Settings;$v[8]=3;&Set-ItemProperty -Path $p -Name Settings -Value $v;&Stop-Process -f -ProcessName explorer

If you want to re-enable your taskbar, you need to change "$v[8]=3" to "$v[8]=2" instead. Your complete command will look like this:

How to use the taskbar in Windows

Use the taskbar for more than seeing your apps and checking the time. You can personalize it in many ways—change the color, pin your favorite apps to it, and move or rearrange taskbar buttons. You can also check your battery status and minimize all open programs momentarily so that you can take a look at your desktop.

Pin an app to the taskbar

Pin an app directly to the taskbar for quick access when you're on the desktop. (Or unpin it, if you want.) You can do it from Start or the Jump List—which is a list of shortcuts to recently opened files, folders, and websites.

Pin an app from Start

In the Search box on the taskbar, type the name of the app you want to pin to the taskbar. Press and hold (or right-click) on the app, then select Pin to taskbar .

To unpin an app, follow the same steps and select Unpin from taskbar .

Pin or unpin an app from the App list

If the app is already open, select and hold the icon in the taskbar (or right-click it), then select Pin to taskbar .

If you’re unpinning, follow the same steps and select Unpin from taskbar .

Change your taskbar settings

Customize the taskbar from the taskbar itself. If you want to change multiple aspects of the taskbar at one time, use Taskbar settings. Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, and then select Taskbar settings .

In the Taskbar settings , scroll to see the options for customizing, choosing icons, and much more.

Note:  The Taskbar settings allow you to align taskbar icons in the center or on the left—but there are no settings for moving a taskbar to the top or side of the screen. By default, the taskbar sits at the bottom of the screen.

Select any of the following to see more ways to customize your taskbar.

Hide or display taskbar items

These are the buttons and bars that sit right next to your Start button and cannot be moved.

Search  on the taskbar can be set in four ways: either to  Search box , which includes a full text box to enter your search (or your Bing Chat prompt; see Using the new Bing on the Windows taskbar for more) into plus additional search highlights,  Search icon and label (displaying as a search icon and Search label), Search icon only (just the icon) or  Hide (completely hidden).

Note:  The Search box setting is not supported when Automatically hide the taskbar is selected under Taskbar behaviors .

You can also set the Task view , Widgets , or Chat buttons On or Off .

Hide or display system tray icons

Keep your system tray neat and tidy! In System tray icons , you can determine when the Pen menu , Touch keyboard , or Virtual touchpad icons are displayed. In Other system tray icons , you can turn icons that are mostly installed alongside other apps On (meaning they will display in the tray all of the time) or Off (meaning they will only show when they need your attention, and otherwise can be accessed in the Hidden icon menu , if you have that turned On .)

Change the taskbar alignment

Typically, the taskbar icons are centered, but you can also align them to the side of the taskbar.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, then select Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors .

Scroll to Taskbar alignment and select Left.

Rearrange taskbar buttons

Whenever you want to change the order of app buttons on the taskbar, just drag a button from its current position to a different one.

Show badges on taskbar buttons

A badge on a taskbar button is an alert to let you know that some activity is happening, or needs to happen, with that app.

For example, a bell badge on the Alarms & Clocks app alerts you to an active alarm that will notify you at the time you set. This feature is turned on by default, but if you want to make sure it’s on (or to turn it off), press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , select  Taskbar behaviors , and scroll to  Show badges (unread messages counter) on taskbar apps .

Use the taskbar to show the desktop

Use the show desktop feature to take a quick look at what’s on your desktop behind all the open windows.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , select  Taskbar behaviors , then choose  Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop . Open Taskbar settings

Move the mouse over, or press, the far-right edge of the taskbar to see the desktop.

To restore the view of all your open windows, move the mouse over, or press, the far-right edge of the desktop again.

Automatically hide the taskbar

You can hide the taskbar both in desktop mode and tablet mode. Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , select Taskbar behaviors , and select Automatically hide the taskbar .

To see the taskbar after it's hidden, hover your mouse over, or touch, the bottom edge of your screen.

Change the color of your taskbar

Select Start  > Settings  > Personalization .

Select Colors and scroll to Accent color .

Turn on Show accent color on Start and taskbar . This will change the color of your taskbar to the color of your overall theme.

Note:  This option is only available if you select Dark or Custom as your Windows color (under Choose your mode ). If you choose Custom , you'll also need to choose Dark for Choose your default Windows mode .

Use the tablet-optimized taskbar on 2-in-1 devices

Note:  This setting is only available on 2-in-1 devices with tablet functionality.

When you disconnect or fold back the keyboard on your 2-in-1 device, you'll now see the tablet-optimized taskbar in the latest versions of Windows 11. This taskbar has two states: collapsed and expanded. In the collapsed state, the taskbar is minimized so you can focus on your task, but you can still see critical status icons like the time or battery level. When you need to use the taskbar, swipe up from the bottom to see the expanded state that has a touch-friendly design with larger icons. When you launch an app, the taskbar will automatically collapse again.

To turn the tablet-optimized taskbar on or off, do this:

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , and then select  Taskbar behaviors .

To turn off the tablet-optimized taskbar, uncheck the box next to  Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet . To turn it back on again, simply recheck the box.

Display seconds in the clock on the taskbar

You can show seconds alongside hours and minutes in your system tray clock on the taskbar. Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, then select Taskbar settings  >  Taskbar behaviors , and then check Show seconds in system tray clock .

Use the taskbar for more than seeing your apps and checking the time. You can personalize it in many ways—change the color and size, pin your favorite apps to it, move it around on your screen, and rearrange or resize taskbar buttons. You can also check your battery status, minimize all open programs momentarily so that you can take a look at your desktop, lock the taskbar to keep your options, and customize your settings for search highlights, news and interests, and more.

Pin or unpin an app from Start

To unpin an app, follow the same steps and select Unpin from taskbar  .

If the app is already open, right-click or press and hold the app's icon on the taskbar, then select Pin to taskbar . Or select  Unpin from taskbar  if you're unpinning the app.

Lock and unlock the taskbar

Locking the taskbar is handy to make sure it remains how you set it up. Unlock the taskbar later when you want to make changes or change its location on the desktop.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar.

Select Taskbar settings    and turn on Lock the taskbar .

If Lock the taskbar has a check mark next to it, you know it’s already locked. To turn it off, under  Lock the taskbar  set the toggle to  Off .

If you have multiple monitors that display the taskbar, you'll see Lock all taskbars .

Change the taskbar location

Typically, the taskbar is at the bottom of the desktop, but you can also move it to either side or the top of the desktop. When the taskbar is unlocked, you can change its location. See the  Lock and unlock the taskbar  section to find out if yours is locked. When you've confirmed that your taskbar is unlocked, you can change its location.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar and select  Taskbar settings  .

Scroll down to Taskbar location on screen , and then select Left, Top, Right, or Bottom .

Change the height of the taskbar

Like many other changes in the taskbar, you'll need to first unlock the taskbar. Then, move the pointer over the border of the taskbar until the pointer turns into a double arrow. Drag the border to the size you want and release. 

See your battery status on the taskbar

You can add the battery icon to the taskbar.

Select Taskbar settings   , scroll down, and choose  Select which icons appear on the taskbar.

Set the toggle for  Power to  On .

You can check battery status by selecting the battery icon in the taskbar.

Note:  You might need to select the Show hidden icons  icon on the taskbar before selecting the battery icon. Power is not an option on systems without a battery.

Whenever you want to change the order of app buttons on the taskbar, just drag a button from its current position to a different one. You might want to choose how taskbar buttons are grouped, especially if you have multiple windows open. By default, all open files from the same app are always grouped together, even if you didn’t open them in succession.

Change how taskbar buttons group together

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, then select Taskbar settings  >  Combine taskbar buttons .

Select from the list:

Always, hide labels . This is the default setting. Each app appears as a single, unlabeled button, even when multiple windows for that app are open.

When taskbar is full . This setting shows each window as an individual, labeled button. When the taskbar becomes crowded, apps with multiple open windows collapse into a single app button. Select the button to see a list of the windows that are open.

Never . This setting shows each window as an individual, labeled button and never combines them, no matter how many windows are open. As more apps and windows open, buttons get smaller, and eventually the buttons will scroll.

If you use multiple displays, you can make a different choice for your extra displays. 

Select Taskbar settings  .

Scroll down to  Multiple Displays and select from the  Combine taskbar buttons   on other taskbars list.

Use smaller or larger taskbar buttons

If you want to show more of your apps on the taskbar, you can show smaller versions of the buttons.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , and then select  On for  Use small taskbar buttons. 

Select  Off to return to the larger taskbar buttons.

Note:  Badges aren't displayed on small taskbar buttons.

Use the taskbar to peek at the desktop

Use the Peek feature to take a quick look at what’s on your desktop behind all the open windows.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, select Taskbar settings , and then turn on Use Peek to preview the desktop when you move your mouse to the Show desktop button at the end of the taskbar . Open Taskbar settings

Move the mouse pointer over (or press and hold) the far-right edge of the taskbar to see the desktop.

To restore the view of all your open windows, move the pointer away or press and hold the edge one more time.

You can hide the taskbar based on whether you’re in desktop mode or tablet mode.

Press and hold (or right-click) any empty space on the taskbar, and select Taskbar settings .

Turn on either  Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode or  Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode (or both).

Select Start  > Settings  > Personalization .

Select Colors  and scroll down to  Show accent color on the following surfaces .

Select Start, taskbar, and action center . This will change the color of your taskbar to the color of your overall theme.

How to delete a slide in PowerPoint

If you are using Microsoft PowerPoint , there may be a slide that you need to delete. Maybe you find that a slide is unnecessary or have a slide you used to test different layouts that you can now remove.

What You Need

Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint mobile app (optional)

Internet access (optional)

You might want to delete a slide before printing your PowerPoint presentation with notes . Luckily, it’s easy to remove a slide in PowerPoint. Plus, you can delete an individual slide the same way in PowerPoint on the web as well as the desktop application on Windows and Mac.

Step 1: Be sure you’re using Normal, Outline View, or Slide Sorter view. Head to the View tab to choose one of these if necessary.

Step 2: In Normal or Outline View, display the thumbnails on the left by dragging to expand that area.

Step 3: Either right-click the slide you want to remove and choose Delete Slide or select the slide and press your Delete key (or Backspace key on Windows.)

Step 4: Note that you won’t be asked to confirm. If you delete the wrong slide, quickly select Undo in the Quick Access Toolbar to replace the removed slide.

Maybe you have more than one slide that you want to delete in your presentation. This is just as easy as removing a single slide in PowerPoint on the web or in the desktop application.

Step 1: Use Normal, Outline View, or Slide Sorter view.

Step 2: Select the slides using one of the following methods:

• For adjacent slides, select the first slide, hold the Shift key, and select the last slide in the group.
• For nonadjacent slides, select the first slide, hold the Ctrl or Command key, and select each additional slide.

Step 3: Either right-click and choose Delete Slide or press your Delete key.

Again, if you make an error in the slide selection, select Undo in the Quick Access Toolbar to replace the deleted slides.

Using PowerPoint on your mobile device is convenient for creating and editing slideshows on the go. Fortunately, you can delete individual slides in the PowerPoint app on Android or iPhone pretty easily.

Step 1: With the presentation open, be sure you’re in edit mode. Select Edit at the bottom if necessary.

Step 2: In the slide thumbnail row at the bottom or on the left, select the slide you want to remove.

Step 3: Select Delete in the pop-up toolbar.

Step 4: Continue this process if you want to remove additional slides.

If you accidentally delete the wrong slide, select Undo at the top to replace it.

What is the difference between hide slides and delete slides?

When you hide a slide in PowerPoint, this stops it from appearing while you’re presenting the slideshow. The hidden slide stays in your presentation during the editing process. The same is true when you hide a slide in Google Slides .

But when you delete a slide in PowerPoint, this removes the slide completely. You won’t see it while you’re presenting or editing the slideshow.

How do I delete a PowerPoint presentation?

Navigate to the location of the PowerPoint file whether in a folder or in OneDrive. Right-click the file, choose Delete , and confirm if prompted.

How do you delete a slide on Google Slides?

If you're planning to use Google Slides , it can be useful to know how to remove slides in that software. To remove a slide on Google Slides, start by choosing either Show filmstrip or Grid view in the View menu. Then, right-click the slide you want to remove and choose Delete or select the slide and then select the Delete key.
