Hiring famous actors for high salaries is a strategic decision in filmmaking. These stars bring a certain allure and fan following, which can significantly drive up a film’s popularity and box office earnings. However, directors need to weigh this against the overall budget, as allocating too much to salaries can limit resources available for other critical aspects like production quality and marketing.

1. Sample answer 1

The movie that I watched recently and felt disappointed about is "Tenet," which is a science fiction thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie revolves around the concept of time inversion , where objects and people can move backward in time.

I watched the movie with my friends, who were all excited to see it. We decided to watch it because we heard that it was a mind-bending , action-packed movie with stunning visuals and an intriguing plot .

However, I felt extremely disappointed after watching the movie. Firstly, the plot was convoluted and hard to follow , making it difficult to understand what was happening on screen. Additionally, the dialogue was muffled and often drowned out by the loud background music and sound effects, which made it even harder to comprehend .

Moreover, the characters were poorly developed , and I found it hard to connect with them emotionally. The acting was also subpar , with some of the actors delivering wooden performances.

Overall, I felt let down by "Tenet." I had high expectations for the movie, given its director and the hype surrounding it, but it failed to live up to its promise. The confusing plot, poor character development, and mediocre acting left me feeling disappointed and unsatisfied.

2. Sample answer 2

I watched a film a few weeks ago that I expected to be really great, which actually I found quite boring.

It was recommended to me by a friend of mine. I’m not sure how you’d translate the title to do it justice, but anyway, it has a really catchy and interesting title in Vietnamese, and it sounds like it’s going to be a high-paced thriller adventure detective sort of film. And in some ways I suppose it is.

However, it starts really slowly, and isn’t actually very stimulating – the plot evolves in a way which I found highly predictable every step of the way, and the romance subplot I found utterly pathetic – it was weak and lacked the tensions that are usually important in a good story. All in all, although the acting, costumes, design and the computer graphics were top notch, I found the story and the dialogue absolutely tedious and really rather weak.

I watched this film with two friends of mine in their flat just outside campus. They also had been quite excited about it, and had read some good reviews online about the film. But, like me, they were pretty disappointed by it, and also quite mystified as to how it had become quite famous and got such good reviews.

We concluded that people’s tastes in movies these days was rather poor and governed mainly by the headline actors in the film and the technical details and modern filming and production techniques , more than the story itself or the dialogue. I find this a bit sad, but I think it’s true.

Describe a movie you watched recently that you felt disappointed about

You should say:

  • What it is about
  • Why you decided to watch it

And explain why you felt disappointed about it.

Bài mẫu band 8.0+:

Recently, I watched a movie titled "The Lost Journey," which I had high hopes for based on the intriguing trailer and positive reviews. The film revolved around a group of explorers venturing into a mysterious realm in search of a legendary treasure that promised unimaginable powers. Intrigued by the adventure and fantasy elements, I eagerly decided to watch it.

Unfortunately, the movie fell short of my expectations, leaving me disappointed. Firstly, despite the captivating premise , the plot lacked depth and failed to develop the characters adequately . The story felt rushed, and important details were left unexplained. Moreover, the dialogue felt cliché and lacked the emotional impact I was anticipating.

Additionally, the visual effects, which were heavily advertised, turned out to be underwhelming . The CGI appeared poorly executed and failed to immerse me in the fantastical world as promised. The pacing was uneven , with slow moments that disrupted the overall flow.

Overall, the movie lacked the substance and execution needed to fulfill its potential. It left me feeling unsatisfied, as I had expected a thrilling and immersive experience but instead encountered a superficial and poorly executed production. It served as a reminder that even with promising trailers and positive reviews, films can still disappoint, emphasizing the importance of managing expectations when it comes to entertainment choices.

“Yes, films featuring famous actors or actresses tend to attract a larger audience. Their star power, reputation, and fan base often contribute to the popularity of a movie. Audiences are drawn to watch films that showcase their favorite actors, as they trust their talent and expect a high-quality performance. The presence of renowned actors can generate excitement, boost ticket sales, and create a buzz around the film, making it more likely to be successful at the box office.”

2.5. Why are Japanese animated films so popular?

“Japanese animated films, commonly known as anime, have gained immense popularity worldwide due to several reasons. Firstly, anime offers unique storytelling with compelling narratives that appeal to diverse audiences. The captivating visuals, distinct art styles, and vibrant characters create a distinct viewing experience. Additionally, anime explores a wide range of genres, catering to various interests. The cultural richness , attention to detail, and complex themes explored in anime contribute to its global appeal, making it a beloved form of entertainment for many.”

2.6. Should the director pay a lot of money to famous actors?

“I think the question of whether directors should pay substantial amounts to famous actors is subjective . While some argue that star power can attract audiences and contribute to a film's success, others believe that talent and performance should be the main factors determining actors' salaries. Balancing budget constraints and ensuring fair compensation for all actors can be a challenge. Ultimately, it depends on the specific circumstances and goals of the production, as well as the director's vision for the project.”

One of last year's more unexpected cinematic success stories, at least from a box-office perspective, was "God's Not Dead," a low-budget Christian-themed drama about the campus-based battle of wills that develops between a hard-hearted philosophy professor who required his students to literally sign a document avowing that God is dead and the earnestly devout student who unsurprisingly takes a somewhat different view and refuses to sign. The film was pretty awful — a frequently ridiculous stew of straw man arguments, stacked decks, an overwhelming persecution complex and an oddly peripheral subplot involving a liberal blogger out to really do a number on those Duck Dynasty guys—and it received largely terrible reviews. However, it clearly struck a chord with its core audience of evangelicals and Kevin Sorbo enthusiasts and went on to make upwards of $62 million worldwide on an investment of about $2 million. Clearly wishing to strike while the proverbial iron is hot, the producers and writers of that film have now returned with "Do You Believe?," a film that starts off on a reasonably restrained note but which quickly grows so ridiculously ham-fisted that it almost makes its predecessor seem reasonable and open-minded by comparison.

Set in Detroit, the film is one of those multiple-narrative tales featuring a number of different subplots that eventually wind up coming together in theoretically unexpected ways—the kind of format largely developed by Robert Altman in such classics as " Nashville " and " Short Cuts ," honed further by Altman acolyte Paul Thomas Anderson in his equally brilliant " Magnolia " and debased beyond belief by the atrocity that was " Crash ." Here, our characters include a minister ( Ted McGinley ) inspired by the words of a mysterious street preacher ( Delroy Lindo ) carrying a massive cross, a pregnant teen runaway ( Madison Pettis ) that he and his barren wife (Tracy Melchior) take in, a church janitor (Brian Bosworth) who takes in a homeless mother ( Mira Sorvino ) and child (Makenzie Moss) while trying to disguise a cough that would give Camille pause, a born-again EMT (Liam Matthews) and his wife (Valerie Dominguez), her PTSD-suffering brother ( Joseph Julian Soria ), a suicidal young woman ( Alexa PenaVega ), an aging couple ( Lee Majors and Cybil Shepherd) still reeling from the death of their daughter and a thug (Shwayze) who finds himself ready to repent for good following a robbery gone wrong.

The opening scenes establishing all these characters and their various agendas are not particularly bad. Let me rephrase that—they aren't particularly good but compared to the lunacies of "God's Not Dead," there is nothing particularly objectionable to them other than giving the other members of the thug's gang (all African-American, by the way) such names as Kriminal and 40 Ounce and the admittedly weird sight of Mira Sorvino and Brian Bosworth acting opposite each other. Having accomplished that, however, screenwriters Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon apparently must have worried about alienating their base because this is where the preposterous plot developments kick in. In the most grotesque of the bunch, the EMT proselytizes to a dying accident victim instead of doing his actual job and winds up being sued for everything he has by the secular humanist widow and her money-loving, religion-hating lawyer (Andrea Logan White )—since he refuses to admit that he did anything wrong, his union refuses to support him and even his wife is about to abandon him. The lawyer, by the way, is married to a cynical doctor ( Sean Astin ) who refuses to believe in miracles and, in one especially astonishing scene, gets irrationally upset at the sight of a couple saying grace before eating and then goes on to lamely misquote Alec Baldwin's big speech from " Malice ."

As it veers between the relatively grounded and the punishingly preachy, "Do You Believe?" demonstrates that while it may not be as convulsively awful as its predecessor, it is certainly a more schizophrenic moviegoing experience. There are some moments, such as the ones involving the relationship that unexpectedly develops between the soldier and the would-be suicide, that are handled by director Jonathan M. Gunn in a reasonably touching manner (perhaps not coincidentally, this plot thread is the least overtly religious-minded of the bunch). At other times, however, it seems to be going out of its way to throw in things to fire up the base regardless of how they may work from a dramatic standpoint—characters (especially the EMT's wife) find their behavior randomly switching from scene to scene with no rhyme or reason and the runaway tells the story of how she left home because her evil stepmother tried to trick her into an abortion. The finale, in which all of the storylines finally converge (and how) is exceptionally ludicrous and by once again relying on a traffic accident help tie things up in the end, Konzelman and Solomon seem to be suggesting that if there is a God, He or She is apparently a fan of the other, better "Crash."

Subtle as a sledgehammer to the toes and only slightly more entertaining, "Do You Believe?" will no doubt play well with viewers already predisposed towards liking it because it has been designed to reconfirm their already deeply-felt beliefs rather than doing anything that might cause them to think about or challenge those beliefs in any meaningful way. Those who are not as heavily invested in its core message will probably find it laughable (though not nearly as much as "God's Not Dead," a film so risible that it is being screened next month at the 2015 American Atheists National Convention, complete with riffing by two of the guys from the late, great "Mystery Science Theatre 3000") and will likewise not find any reason to question their own personal value systems. This is a shame because I would rather see a movie that presents a opposing viewpoint in an interesting and provocative manner than one that merely parrots what I already believe in any day of the week. On the bright side, if "Do You Believe?" does make a splash at the box office—and it probably will—maybe it will bring Brian Bosworth back into the spotlight and make the dream that is "Stone Cold 2" a reality at last. For that, even I would be willing to take a knee.

Cinema, a powerful medium of storytelling and expression, captivates audiences worldwide with its diverse genres and narratives. IELTS Speaking provides an opportunity to discuss cinema in an enjoyable and enriching way. To help you ace your IELTS Speaking, this blog provides insights into common questions for films/movies IELTS Speaking Part 1.

Let’s take a look at some sample responses to cinema/films/movies Speaking Part 1 related questions from the IELTS Speaking. Additionally, we’ll look at some IELTS Speaking vocabulary and IELTS Speaking tips that you can use to frame your answers and achieve a high IELTS Band Score .

1 Do you like to watch films?/Do you like watching movies?

Absolutely, I am a movie buff! They are an excellent way to unwind. Moreover, my friends are really into films, so it’s a fun, relaxing way to spend time together. Afterwards, we discuss and debate the film that we have just watched. Apart from just relaxing and enjoying the film, I like to delve deeper to discover the subliminal messages.

2 What kinds of movies do you like best?/What kind of movies do you like?

Well, I would say I’m still a kid at heart, so I really enjoy watching animations. Although they seem simple and innocent, there are often many life lessons packed into these films. Moreover, I’m really into blockbuster drama and periodic movies with excellent screenplay and riveting plots. When I watch these, I feel that I can deeply understand human emotions and relive historical moments, like the Vietnam-America War or World War II.

3 Do you prefer foreign films or films made in your country?/Do you prefer foreign films or films made in your country?

Since my country doesn’t have a huge film industry, I’ve always been really into American films. Not to knock other film industries, but American ones are incredibly entertaining and well-made; the evolution of film continues to amaze me. Moreover, I only watch films in English so it helps me to learn new slang and expressions.

4 How often do you watch films?

Well, I am quite a busy bee, but I manage to see one or two films a week at home. After a long day of studying, I love snuggling up on the sofa and watching a film to unwind. I tend to do this on Friday and Sunday evenings with my friends.

5 How often do you go to a cinema to watch a movie?/How often do you go to the cinema?

Not too often actually. As the prices in my country are quite high, I usually opt to watch a movie at home instead to save on costs. Actually, I think it’s kind of a waste of money to see a movie at a cinema when you can watch it from the comfort of your living room. I only go when a friend invites me, which is maybe 4 times a year.

6 Do people in your country like to go to a cinema to watch a film?/Do people in your country still like to go to a cinema?

I would say so. Since people like to go out with their families on the weekends, this is often an activity that they would choose. Moreover, teenagers enjoy this activity as a way to get out of the house. Furthermore, it’s often a popular date option for many people!

7 What was the first film that you watched?

Hmm, it’s hard to say the first, but I think it was the Lion King. I know it first came out in the early ’90s when I was a child. It was my absolute favourite and I used to watch it repeatedly until my parents were really tired of it! I even built “pride rock” out of rocks that I found when we would go to visit my relatives who have a garden.

8 Do you like to watch movies alone or with your friends?

Both! On one hand, I find it extremely relaxing to chill out and fall asleep to a film by myself, but it’s also enjoyable to have company. So, all in all, I prefer films with friends, since they are also into movies. Afterwards, we can discuss the meaning and carry on inside jokes (jokes among friends) from quotes from the film later on!

9 Would you like to be in a movie?

Not one bit! As I have stage fright, I would never have the guts to do it. Secondly, I feel awkward when I try to act and I have the memory of a goldfish so I know I could never memorize my lines! All in all, acting is simply not my thing.

10 What was the best movie you watched?

Okay, that’s a hard question! If I absolutely had to choose, I’d pick ‘The Departed’ by Martin Scorcese. It features Leonardo diCaprio starring as a police detective undercover in the Irish mob. The chilling plot, intense dialogue and brilliant cinematography make it an all-time favourite for me.

11 What kind of films do you try to avoid?

I try to steer clear of crowd-pleasing movies because these movies are so formulaic. The only reason these movies are popular is because people can identify with their themes, but in my opinion, they are a little shallow.

12 What is your favorite film genre?

While it’s challenging to choose just one favorite genre, if I had to pick, I would say that dramas resonate with me the most. Dramas delve deep into the human experience, portraying complex characters and exploring themes of love, loss, and resilience. Whether set in the past, present, or future, dramas have the power to evoke profound emotions and leave a lasting impression on viewers.

(2024) describe a movie you watched recently that you felt disappointed about.

Describe a Movie You Watched Recently That You Felt Disappointed About

Describe a Movie You Watched Recently That You Felt Disappointed About

You should say:

  • When it was
  • Why you didn’t like it
  • Why you decided to watch it
  • And explain why you felt disappointed about it

Sample Answer 1

There’s a movie I recently watched called  Nice and Easy . Basically it’s a French  comedy  that  follows  a twenty-something  guy who’s got two doctor degrees but made the conscious decision  not to work. I watched it on a Friday night on my own, as I was sipping a cup of tea and snuggling up in a cozy blanket .

I decided to watch the movie because it was all over social media , partly because the  theme  reminds people of the  lying flat mentality  in Gen Z  where young people joke about not working and just chilling. But it’s just something people say , in reality few would actually follow through . That’s why I was really curious to see how things would pan out  for the jobless guy  in the movie .

As it turned out, I really enjoyed the first half. Despite having no job and no ambitions, the protagonist  was having the time of his life , just chilling and he seemed genuinely happy . However, as the movie progresses, he somehow changed his mind  and started to join the rat race . The movie ends with him making a fortune and starting a family.

I’m a bit  disappointed about  this seemingly happy ending. The way I see it, the movie could have explored  so many possibilities that come with an unconventional way of living . Instead, it chose to stick to the conventional , which is a bit anti-climactic  for me.

I’m not saying that people shouldn’t work hard. On the contrary, it’s super important to work hard in order to achieve anything in a competitive society. But I guess for me movies are supposed to be escapism , so I would like it to be more idealistic than realistic. That’s why I’d say overall, the movie has a promising start but I’m not a big fan of the ending.

Sample Answer 2

I recently watched a movie that I felt disappointed about – “ Wonder Woman 1984 “. I was excited to see it as I am a fan of the superhero genre and enjoyed the first Wonder Woman movie.

However, the sequel did not live up to my expectations .

Firstly, the plot was convoluted and confusing, with unnecessary subplots that detracted from the main storyline. It felt like the filmmakers were trying to pack too much into the movie without fully exploring any of the themes or characters.

Additionally, the pacing was slow and the action sequences were underwhelming . I was expecting epic battle scenes and intense fight choreography , but instead, they were lackluster and poorly executed.

Moreover, the characters lacked depth and development, particularly the villain who was portrayed as cartoonish and one-dimensional .

I decided to watch the movie because of my admiration for the character and the previous film, and because of the hype surrounding its release . However, I learned that sometimes high expectations can lead to disappointment.

In conclusion, while “Wonder Woman 1984” had potential, it fell short in multiple areas , resulting in a disappointing viewing experience.

1. Do you believe movie reviews?

I believe the movie reviews from critics I trust.

I’m aware that some movie companies hire people to create positive reviews of their films to entice others to watch; these I ignore.

But there are independent movie critics who regularly publish honest-to-goodness reviews of movies, which are the ones I believe.

I find such reviews helpful before going to the cinema because it would be a shame to spend so much to watch a poorly made movie.

2. What are the different types of films in your country?

Similar to other movie-producing countries, we have all kinds of movie genres.

We have horror films, mystery, romance, comedy, drama, suspense, and action.

One reason is that China has a large population, so movie producers want to cater to the wants of everyone, if possible.

And, of course, movie producers want to earn a lot, so they invest in different kinds of movies to ensure something becomes a hit with the public.

3. Are historical films popular in your country? Why?

I think they are popular for certain age groups.

Older people are into them since these films remind them of the past. I’m not saying they are so old that they experienced what was in the movie; they just have a better appreciation of history and perhaps remember their school days when their teachers taught history.

Young people, however, are not that interested. I believe younger people would rather watch movies set in modern or even futuristic times since they’re not so fond of the past.

II. Cách trả lời "Do you believe movie reviews?"

  • Movie reviews can provide an overview of the film's plot, performances , production values, and overall quality, which can be helpful for viewers in deciding whether or not to watch it.
  • This information can save viewers time and money by helping them avoid movies they are unlikely to enjoy. >> IELTS TUTOR lưu ý  Cách dùng danh từ"information"tiếng anh
  • Example: For example, if a movie reviewer praises a film for its engaging story, stunning visuals, and strong acting performances, it may encourage people to watch it. Similarly, if a movie review criticizes a film for being poorly written, badly acted, or having weak production values, it may discourage people from watching it.
  • Supporting idea: This can lead to reviews that are not representative of the quality of the film, and can mislead audiences. >> IELTS TUTOR  Giải thích phrasal verb: lead to sth
  • Example: One example to illustrate this point is the movie "Joker" directed by Todd Phillips. While the movie received critical acclaim and numerous awards, some reviewers criticized the film for its depiction of violence and its potential to incite real-world violence. However, others argue that such criticisms are unfounded and suggest that the negative reviews may be due to the reviewers' bias against the superhero/comic book genre or the director himself.

Drama is well-acted but more political than religious.

Positive Messages

Central messages are that faith has the power to save you and help you out of dark and desperate situations into the light. Also presses that you must fight for what you believe in, even if that means going up against people and authorities who will test and doubt you.

Positive Role Models

Several characters act compassionately and selflessly. Bobby stands up to his bosses and the courts for his rights. Stereotyping of atheists and people of color.

Parents need to know that Do You Believe? is a faith-based film from the makers of God's Not Dead ; like that film, it has a Christian storyline and overtly politically conservative messages. While there's no sex or language, you can expect disturbing scenes of violence, including several gun shots, a murder, a chase scene between criminals, and a fatal car accident that kills or injures people. While viewers who agree with the filmmakers' beliefs may enjoy the film, others could be uncomfortable with the movie's political agenda and the stereotypical portrayal of atheists and people of color (every young person of color in the film is either a criminal or suffering in some way: a pregnant teen, gang members, and a violent former Marine suffering from PTSD). The violence makes the movie inappropriate for young viewers, but teens in church-going families should be mature enough to handle the content. Excellent! A must to watch!!!!

Everything, what's the story.

DO YOU BELIEVE? is an evangelical faith-based film from the producers behind God's Not Dead . In Chicago, a dozen characters' storylines intersect literally and figuratively at a cross. Pastor Matthew ( Ted McGinley ) witnesses an older man ( Delroy Lindo ) dragging a large wooden cross around the city, asking strangers whether they "believe in the power of the cross of Christ." The old man then stands up to a group of young criminals who are stealing a van, even as one -- unironically nicknamed Kriminal (Senyo Amoaku) -- pulls a gun on him. The pastor is so touched by the man's faith that he hands out small wooden crosses to his congregation the following Sunday. The power of the cross then touches various other believers and nonbelievers, from a homeless mother and daughter ( Mira Sorvino , Makenzie Moss); a selfless church janitor ( Brian Bosworth ); and older parents ( Cybill Shepherd and Lee Majors ) still struggling with the loss of their daughter to a troubled pregnant teen ( Madison Pettis ); Kriminal's younger brother, Pretty Boy (Shwayze); an evangelical EMT ( Liam Matthews ); and two twentysomethings ( Alexa PenaVega and Joseph Julian Soria) who meet on a bridge where they were planning to attempt suicide.

Is It Any Good?

Until recently, most faith-based movies have had to settle for one or two recognizable actors; this one might boast the most familiar group of established actors ever to appear in a Christian movie. Most of them are listed as associate producers, meaning they'll contractually receive back-end profits (perhaps part of the formula to help these movies attract better ensembles?). In this case, the actors all do their best with the heavy-handed script. If it had focused on the characters' stories of love and compassion (the pastor taking in the pregnant teen, the church janitor helping both the repentant criminal and the homeless single mom, the suicidal couple), it would have been an effective story about God's love. But the political overtones and the subtle race issues make the movie more problematic.

It stumbles the most with the EMT's subplot, which stretches the boundaries of believability by stereotyping atheists, unions, and prosecutors. The messages about race are particularly mixed. Although Pastor Matthew's congregation is multicultural, the movie's central steadfast Christians are all white men, and the people of color almost all end up redeemed but dead. Bottom line? Yes, Do You Believe? has an actual narrative, but if you aren't the kind of person who likes seeing literal sermons (as in, actors playing pastors delivering messages from a pulpit), this isn't the movie for you.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

Families can talk about the popularity of faith-based films. Do you think these movies are meant for an audience that already embraces their message or a tool for reaching new believers? How do you think the filmmakers' intent impacts the messages they choose to include in their movies?

What do you think are the filmmakers' religious and political beliefs? Do you think they're obvious in the movie? Do you/does your family share in those beliefs?

Are there stereotypes in the film? Who are the role models in this movie, and what do they have in common?

What You Need To Know:

(CCC, BBB, V, A, M) Very strong Christian, biblical worldview that challenges believers to boldly carry the cross and to live out their faith in love, forgiveness, kindness, service, and sacrifice, the Gospel is boldly presented and lives are redeemed; no foul language, girl says “heck”; light violence includes a van crashes into a house, gun shots are heard and seen, a man’s legs are crushed by a barrel, and he dies, a man has a nightmare and attacks his sister, a sick man coughs blood, a man is shot three times in the back, an intense car crash pushes a car off a bridge and causes another vehicle to explode in an intense scene; no sexual content, with light kissing between married couples; no nudity; light wine drinking; no drug use; teenage pregnancy and robbery, but not condoned.

More Detail:

DO YOU BELIEVE? is an incredibly powerful movie from the studio that brought you GOD’S NOT DEAD. It follows 12 different people through their individual struggles with faith, trial, pain, and loss and how the power of the Cross will make each of these lives intersect.

It all begins when a homeless man carrying a large cross confronts a pastor, Matthew, driving at night. The man asks Matthew if he believes in Christ, and, if so, what’s he going to do about it?

These words shake up Matthew. The next morning, he delivers a sermon about faith in action and gives everyone in his congregation wooden crosses. Living out his own words, Matthew reaches out to a teenage girl on the street who’s pregnant and homeless.

Elsewhere, a sick man recently released from prison helps a homeless single mother and her daughter by giving them a place to stay. An elderly couple still heartbroken over their daughter’s death tries to find renewed purpose through service. A paramedic faces legal trouble for sharing his faith to a dying man. A criminal finds Jesus, but his criminal buddies won’t let him off the hook. Meanwhile, two broken strangers contemplating suicide cross paths.

As all of these souls and more struggle through life, God’s masterpiece is being painted, and they all intersect in an unexpected way.

DO YOU BELIEVE? is a beautiful, powerful and exceptionally well-done Christian movie. A major step up from GOD’S NOT DEAD, the writing and direction of DO YOU BELIEVE? deliver strong characters with compelling, moving dramatic arcs. At times, the jumping between characters may feel taxing, but it leads to a satisfying, exciting finale. Nearly all the actors give strong, grounded performances. The story moves briskly and never bores the viewer.

Best of all is the strong redemptive Christian message promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ in DO YOU BELIEVE? The movie challenges Christians to live out their Christianity through kindness, service and sacrifice. It also challenges them to boldly share their faith, no matter the consequences. To those who are struggling and have lost all hope and faith, God’s love for them is made abundantly clear. No matter how broken or how lost, God’s love is fully on display in this movie.

DO YOU BELIEVE? doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. A teenage girl is pregnant, two people almost commit suicide, a robbery takes place, and a man is murdered. Nothing is gratuitous in the movie, but some of the intense sequences may be too much for young children, so caution is advised.

In conclusion, DO YOU BELIEVE? is an important, timely movie for both Christians and Non-Christians.

1. In Vietnam, what do people prefer watching: movies or comedy shows?

Well, I mean, in Vietnam, movies are gaining more prominence in the prime-time schedule on TV. The majority of Vietnamese often spend the bulk of their evenings watching TV together with their family, and movie series are an important part of the Vietnamese lifestyle. There are countless dramas that come out every year, and they are attracting massive/ enormous attention . I think movie series are becoming more popular because movie producers know how to make movies that Vietnamese people can relate to, such as family relationships, marriage problems, that sort of thing.

2. What kinds of movies do people often see in the cinema?

I think there are several movie genres that are popular with moviegoers . Action films  have existed as a dominant genre of cinema  for the past decade; one of the reasons why it is so popular is the great influence of Hollywood blockbusters . Another popular movie genre could be comedy, as it allows people to relieve stress, the witty dialogue or fish-out-of-water comedies also make us laugh, and laughter is the best medicine in our life . And of course, other types are gaining more prominence, such as science-fiction. Harry Potter- one of the world’s most famous franchises- could be a great example, as it has been the favorite movie growing up for millions of young children from all over , and they can learn a lot from this movie series.

3. If a movie doesn’t have famous actors, will it be successful?

I think it will, simply because there are many factors that can determine the box office success of a movie , apart from its famous cast. A successful movie requires a good script, or a storyline , maybe a story that the audience can relate to, and touch their hearts. Besides, I suppose there are also other classical factors, such as producer, director, special effects, things related to cinematography , because it needs to be represented artistically . Also, marketing plays a very vital role in determining whether a film will be successful, because even a movie has a good director, famous cast, and excellent script, if it receives very little media coverage, it can not arouse curiosity in the public , and this can lead to the failure of that movie.

4. What kinds of movies do the elderly prefer?

Generally, seniors like something they can relate to, so real-life stories or historical films are popular with them. So the majority of seniors in Vietnam often prefer watching historical documentaries that present information about events that took place during wars. I believe these movies give them a feeling of nostalgia /nɒˈstældʒə/ and remind them of the good old days, of the world they and their families used to live in. Besides, the elderly in Vietnam are also into comedies that are shown on TV, as they enjoy sharing the funny moments of comedies with friends and family.
