Frequently Asked Questions

Contact your local Mathnasium Learning Center with any questions you may have about precalculus tutoring. Here are some of the more common ones we get:

What qualifications do Mathnasium’s precalculus tutors have?

Our tutors are college students, graduate students, math experts, and professionals who truly love math. They receive extensive training in our Mathnasium Method™, and are well-versed in core concepts, methodologies, and applications of pre-calculus, enabling them to provide support and guidance to students of all levels.

Do your precalculus tutors give homework?

No, all learning takes place in-session with the support and guidance of our skilled tutors. Adding homework would risk frustration and overload. However, we set aside time during each session to help students with their school homework.

How often should students attend precalculus tutoring sessions?

We usually recommend attending Mathnasium 2-3 times a week for the best results.

Students who attend less often might take longer to see results, while attending too frequently could make them feel tired and overwhelmed. Our goal is to find the right balance to avoid burnout and keep students motivated.

How do your precalculus tutors motivate students with a negative attitude towards math?

Our tutors excel at transforming how students learn and feel about math. Here’s how we do it:

 • Personalized Approach : We start with an assessment to identify each student's strengths and areas for improvement. By tailoring our instruction to their needs, we provide a solid foundation for building confidence and self-esteem.
 • Building Success Incrementally : We break down complex precalculus topics into manageable parts, allowing students to experience success at each level, boosting motivation.
 • Creating a Supportive Environment : Whether students learn in-center or online, they’ll feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace.
 • Fun Rewards Program : Students are recognized for completing assigned learning plan materials with stamps which they can redeem for exciting rewards from our Rewards Cabinet. This motivates them to keep striving for success.

What topics can Mathnasium’s precalculus tutors teach?

Mathnasium's precalculus tutors can teach a variety of topics to help students succeed. They cover domain and range, composition of functions, exponential growth, conic sections (like circles and parabolas), and limits.

How do Mathnasium’s precalculus tutors support students in understanding and evaluating limits?

Our tutors break down the process of evaluating limits by explaining each step. They start by teaching students the basic concepts and principles behind limits to build a solid foundation.

Then, they introduce techniques like direct substitution, factoring, rationalizing, and using trigonometric identities to evaluate limits effectively.

Throughout the learning journey, tutors encourage students to ask questions and engage in discussions to truly understand the “why’s” behind numbers and formulas. They use visual aids, diagrams, and real-life examples to help students visualize and understand the behavior of functions as they approach specific values.

Can Mathnasium's precalculus tutors help students understand conic sections?

Mathnasium's precalculus tutors are highly skilled in teaching conic sections, including circles, parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas.

Our tutors will not only explain the general equations and characteristics of each conic section, but also emphasize their geometric properties and algebraic representations.

They will guide your student through the process of graphing conic sections, and enable them to identify essential features like the center, radius, foci, eccentricity, and asymptotes.

Can Mathnasium help with other math subjects?

Absolutely! We meet your child where they are and guide them where they need to go with customized learning plans for any level and math subject.

Besides precalculus, our tutors are skilled in helping students with algebra , geometry , trigonometry, and more.

How can students get started with Mathnasium’s precalculus tutoring?

It’s as easy as:

 • Find a location. Reach out to your nearest local learning center, even if your student will be learning online.
 • Schedule an assessment. Our diagnostic skills assessment helps us create a customized learning plan for your student.
 • Book your sessions. Your local Center Director can guide you and your student in setting up a tutoring schedule.

What can QuickMath do?

QuickMath will automatically answer the most common problems in algebra, equations and calculus faced by high-school and college students.

 • The algebra section allows you to expand, factor or simplify virtually any expression you choose. It also has commands for splitting fractions into partial fractions, combining several fractions into one and cancelling common factors within a fraction.
 • The equations section lets you solve an equation or system of equations. You can usually find the exact answer or, if necessary, a numerical answer to almost any accuracy you require.
 • The inequalities section lets you solve an inequality or a system of inequalities for a single variable. You can also plot inequalities in two variables.
 • The calculus section will carry out differentiation as well as definite and indefinite integration.
 • The matrices section contains commands for the arithmetic manipulation of matrices.
 • The graphs section contains commands for plotting equations and inequalities.
 • The numbers section has a percentages command for explaining the most common types of percentage problems and a section for dealing with scientific notation.

I'm really struggling in Pre-Calculus, What should I do??

For the past 4 1/2 weeks of school, I struggle in Pre-Calculus class because I don’t understand it at all. My teachers is supposedly the Strictest and most challenging teacher in my whole entire school. Well to me, he’s not stric at all but definitely the class is challenging. We took our first math test, I failed miserably in that one, I almost got every answer wrong actually. I’m never good at math except Algebra 1 and some Geometry. Well, I have another chance to retake the math test, but I don’t understand anything he taught at all because hes sooooooo confusing when he teachers the lessons at least to me. I’m soo worried that I’m going to fail that class and submit an F grade when I turn in my college applicationa and it will look horrible compare to the rest of my grades!! Also, I heard that during second semester of senior year, that if seniors receive a D or an F in the report card, they will automatically reject you from the school you applied in November, which you probably got accepted at first. i don’t want that to happen!! What can I do to bring my grade up in Pre-Calc??? Do any of you know any Pre-Calc websites that will help me with my homework???

Thanks…

applications**

woww. sometimes im amazed with how much CC members relate to me. Im in the exact same position actually. I just had a test today…and Im so worriedddd! I just dont get this class!

HELP!

well if we were allowed to do homework help on here, i would give ya a hand…

Can you drop down to a lower level?

Can you get extra tutoring either from the teacher or another student? Does your counseling office at school help arrange tutoring?

I’m actually in precalc too, and I have a C, LOL. If you’re good at Algebra I and Geometry I don’t think you should have much trouble. Algebra I/II and trig come easy to me, but geometry is something I epic fail at, so the first test the geometry parts I put chuck norris on every answer; ended up with a C+ on the whole test. Eh. 2nd test in a couple days.

It’s the beginning of the year, I suggest you don’t worry about it and just…go on. read your book sometimes if you don’t want, and etc. I’m not usually worried about my grade so, you should take it easy too.

And do your hw. I haven’t done this the first couple weeks I guess and I’m recently doing it now at lunch (almost) everyday, so my hw grade’s gone up from a 10% to a 64% (steadily increasing). It helps, probably.

how bout this… if you need some help, PM me (if thats allowed)… i practically aced the class (really my only strength) so i could prob help…

Take the non-honors equivalent. I struggled through a precalc class my junior year that was too difficult, and if I’d transferred to trig at the beginning of the year like I’d wanted to I’d have had such a better year.

bleh, I am in a similar situation. I get most of the material covered and have actually done a lot of it in 9th/10th grade but my flaw is my inability to do well in tests. I suggest you stick it out for a little while longer but talk to your guidance counselor about other options. In the meantime, read over the chapters and do tons of practice questions. Remember to always do your homework and if there are questions you don’t understand, go for help the next day. If he fails to explain them sufficiently, look into a tutor or a smart friend to help you sort out questions. [Math Help - Pre-Calculus - Yahoo!
LOL,

I’m in the same situation as a Senior. Physics B AP and Calc AB AP are killing me atm

dont wrry…the more u worry the more u do worse

Wow… Same situation, but I’m a junior in Algebra 3. The thing that sucks about Math, especially algebra/calc, is that is you get behind, you’re ultimately epic fu**ed. I recommend staying after school and getting extra help from the teacher, if they are willing to offer it. I never thought highly of that until this year, and it’s saving my butt. If it makes you feel any better, I got 49% on my Algebra 3 Test of Friday.

Or, go back to the beginning of the book on your own time, and just start over fresh.

Good Luck!

TALK TO YOUR TEACHER!!

seriously…teachers are meant and payed to help students and facilitate learning. go in and sit down with your teacher. im sure he will have some options for you to try. it seems like people are afraid to seek advice out from teachers. they are facilitators. they arent meant to be your enemy.

I agree that you should seek help from your teacher or read your textbook. Pretty much free/quick.

Real-world Calculus Applications Where You'll Need Precalc First

It is easy to ask, “what is the point of learning calculus or even precalculus?” And you would be right. After all, what is the point of getting precalculus homework help if the big picture is fuzzy? A precalculus teacher who couldn’t explain why it’s important shouldn’t teach!

Why Students Need Precalculus Homework Help?

Precalculus is very important to doing the following things and more:

 • Measure weight of and quantity of materials needed for curved structures like dome of a church, a mosque, or a sports arena
 • Determine how much cable you need between two power stations
 • Find out how fast the bacteria is growing in your stomach based on changes in temperature and food
 • Build a plan for your business that measures survey data
 • Create a near-life experience with video games so that 3D objects respond appropriately

To do any of these things, the first step is completing precalculus assignments. If you’re in a precalc class right now, you’re already learning rotation matrices, parametric equations, and complex numbers.

If you’re a parent, it would be easy to book any tutor and let them teach your child. You’re going to want your child to master these concepts if you expect to succeed in learning calculus and applying it to a career.

Why Precalculus Homework Help Works?

But many students today are also task-oriented and extremely pragmatic. Just look at social media accounts where Snapchat is for friends, Instagram is for showing off, and Facebook is already old-fashioned. Each app has its advantages, and StudyGate offers the practical counterpunch to more commonly used video tutorial sites like Khan Academy.

How StudyGate Precalculus Homework Help Works

 • First, we pick expert tutors who have demonstrated industry experience. We look at their transcripts, degrees, and communication skills to determine the best tutors.
 • Tutors must prove their abilities on the platform. Credentials get their foot in the door, but their communication skills keep them there.
 • Students get better grades with online tutoring. We’re especially impressed by how our precalculus tutors help students not only get the correct answers, but value the context so they can ace the test as well.

To find a precalculus expert, post your question through homework help . Just add some basic details about what you want and watch in real-time as tutors bid to help you. Something like “help me with plane curves” or “I’m stuck on this worksheet” is usually enough to get the attention of a tutor. If you’re looking for someone to work with on an ongoing basis, you can browse our precalculus tutors .
