My Safe Place Research Paper
Show More Tanner Barnard English 1180 Prof. Elizabeth Davis October 5th 2017 My Room, My Safe Place, My Sanctuary There is no place like your room, it’s a place of complete safety. There is a loud creaking noise coming from the alarm clock, that sits on my bedside table next to my Pokémon cards, which as you walk away, is replaced by the two to four groaning base boards under my blue carpet. The noise of my busy family , reminds me I’m in a safe place to relax. The noise of the outside is still heard no matter what you do, always. All the sudden the crazy traffic, and blaring of horns, that gets quitter and louder throughout the day, destroying the mindset of the safe place that is within my room. A slight click of the light-switch, a tapping sound comes from the air conditioner, and another click from the balcony lights and glass door shutting behind me. The room is my safe place, place to relax, place to goof off and be myself The different random patterns of soft smooth of the door metal on the handle, is coarse to the touch, but is a great sign of the safe place. The bed gives way as you sit and the softness is engulfing as you lay back relaxing. The different pieces of furniture and trophies around the room all have a strong, smooth feeling as if they were to slide right into the floor. But as if the …show more content… covered in books and toys, that seem to pour and in some places, gush out and as they reach the floor the pools of objects, toys, books and more that have nowhere to go, living on the floor. If you are brave enough to look under the bed, you will see piles of some unidentifiable objects, mountains of dust climbing up to the roof of wooden bars and a mattress with holes and stains all over, uncleaned for days but I wouldn’t want it any other

Control Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper
In the late 1800’s, the dynamic of men and women made it so women were inferior to men. Women were looked upon as having no impact on society other than to have children and take care of the home. It was difficult for women to express themselves in a world controlled by men. The men held the jobs, received educations, and ruled society. In "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the narrator experiences this kind of control from her husband, John.…
Verses On The Burning Of Our House Analysis
The speaker begins to reminisce about her old belongings and how she will no longer be able to enjoy them. More important than this is the speaker’s discussion of how her home enabled her to fulfill her role as a mother and caretaker. As the speaker depicts how “Under the roof no guest shall sit, / Nor at thy Table eat a bit” (Bradstreet 29-30), she emphasizes how she employed her house as a location for friends and family to congregate and enjoy the company of one another. Following her loss of this vital symbol of her ability to complete her responsibilities as a married Puritan woman, she cannot resist lamenting the immediate disappearance of both all her worldly possessions and her home. In order to highlight how drastically this loss will impact her life, the speaker juxtaposes the “pleasant talk” (Bradstreet 31) that once filled her home prior to the fire with the idea that “In silence ever shalt [the house] lie” (Bradstreet 35).…
Entering Motherhood In The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
This room opened in the piazza and had roses all over the window, and such pretty old-fashion chintz hangings as she described. The wife describes this room her husband, John insists on her staying in is big and airy, the whole floor nearly, the windows that look like ways, and air and sunshine galore. She also describes the room as a being a nursery at first and then a playroom and gymnasium. The windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls. She then describes the paint and the wallpaper and how she hate it saying the color is repellent, almost revolting; a smoldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning…
Homeland Security Research Paper
Every day thousands of people risk their lives to protect our country from harm, from serving in the army, to working for the government in the Department of Homeland Security because, these people are the ones who keep us protected from harm. For my senior project, I am researching how it is possible to get a job in the Department of Homeland Security. Prior to the start of this project I just had the basic knowledge of what it is and that it is a part of the government. Throughout this project I plan on exploring the system and the skills it takes to get into the Department of Homeland Security starting in college. By doing this I hope to be able to better understand what it takes to become part of the Department of Homeland Security and…

Theme Of Mental Illness In The Yellow Wallpaper
Mental illness has been subjected to many common misconceptions in both the modern and past times. In recent times the term mental illness has become overused and desensitized, but in the past admitting to mental illness meant isolation and other futile ways of treating this illness. In The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman the main character who is also the narrator suffers from depression and her husband John goes about treating her in a few very unhealthy ways. Through the way her husband treats her in order to cure her, the environment in which she is placed in order to cure her, and her own lack instruction as well as her inability to recognize her problems worsening.…

I really don’t see why you should keep a diary at all” (Wilde 22).…
A Safe Place Analysis
A “safe place” is hard to define. To some people it may consist of their home, a relative’s home, or maybe a favorite place to visit and recall childhood memories. For others, it may involve a vacation spot. Somewhere away from home where they can relax and not have to deal with responsibilities of their home life for a while. To Ashley, there had always been one place that had never failed to comfort her.…

When working in the healthcare sector and dealing with patients, it is essential to understand the concept of cultural safety. Bryson discusses three main concepts that are essential to understand in order to become a culturally competent healthcare worker.…

Personal Narrative: A Safe Place
I awoke to the smell of coffee, eggs and bacon. It was so bright in the room i couldn't keep my eyes open at first, but after a few blinks I was fine. I stood up and walked over to the table. I sat down and took a long slow drink of my steaming coffee. and then I ate my breakfast still half asleep. As I drank my third cup of coffee and second helping of food I was full. After breakfast I brushed my teeth and asked my mom if she had seen my flashlight anywhere and she said no but there was one in the cabinet above the fridge. so I looked and right next to the flashlight was a package of lightbulbs. there were three extras now that I changed the bulb and I put the box into my bag. I got my snorkel and flippers, put my suit on, and was …show more content…
I was nearly five miles down the coast from them and the police were involved and that was seriously the scariest time in my life. But thankfully for us. I was taught at a young age that if I got separated from mom or dad that I should find a safe place out in a public area, and stay put. So I crawled onto the beach and sat a little bit away from a mom and her kids. And I sat there till my mom found me. It took two hours. and the only reason they found me was because the lady i was next to had called the police and reported a child who was alone. She still nags me for it. But oh well. What could happen in a lake that was pretty much an oversized pond? And oh yeah the “balloons” are a small bag of two or three water balloons filled with air that are attached to you by a fishing reel without the rod. You press the button open the bag and it’s our hillbilly way of letting the people above the water know where you are if you get into trouble under the …show more content…
and i have no clue what my back looks like but i can feel the sunscreen caked on it. We stopped on the dock and she rubbed the rest of it in and then i got on my flippers and snorkel and flashlight and everything was good to go. Mom went out to the middle of the lake in the boat and i went in with my flashlight. I went deeper and deeper and didn’t let any air out yet. i didn’t need too i was so mesmerized by the view i got, there were weeds much like seaweed. the rocks were shiny and nearly golden. The fish were in small schools. they were tiny minnows but not the lake kind. the kind you find in a river somewhere water was getting in and out of the lake i went up for air and saw that my mom was busy she had the radio on and some country was playing and she was reading, she looked really sleepy. i didn’t bother her i just did some breathing exercises and then i took a deep breath and went Down. i skimmed the bottom and i couldn’t find anything. it was just ground and weeds and every great now and then i would see bluegills and small fish swim by, fish that were bottom feeders and a few smallmouth bass. The lake was huge though there could be a shark in here and i would never know it. But i really needed to find a way to mark where i have been. i guess i should have made a plan before i came down

Stanley Park's Mystery: The Case Of The Incredible Shrinking Lake
Almost everyone loves a great mystery, and what could be more mysterious than a disappearing lake? Vanishing lake, you ask? Yes, it is true. Stanley Park is home to Beaver Lake, Vancouver’s incredible shrinking lake. Clue Hunters, interested in cracking the case, will need to venture off the seawall and head into the forest to explore the inner wonders of Stanley Park. Granted, the stunning views of mountains, sky and ocean along the famous seawall are difficult to leave behind, but an “off-trip” to explore Beaver Lake is worth the short detour. My favourite access point to the lake is via a stone gateway beneath Stanley Park drive. I feel like I am entering a whole new

A Report On Larchwood Lake May Not Ever Be The Same Again Essay
: Larchwood Lake may not ever be the same again. The story about Larchwood Lake is not that uncommon. Without doing extensive research into possible things that could occur by lowering the lake level, the Larchwood Lake Homeowner’s Association destroyed the very thing they were trying to protect. Carelessness and poor planning are not the only root causes however. There are a number of reasons that led to the degradation of Larchwood Lake that happen to relate to more macro level environmental issues. Those reasons are poorly designed environmental policy created by the E.P.A., poor understanding of lake ecology by the managers of the land, and false confidence in poorly planned ideas. By looking at how these factors contributed to the degradation of the lake, hopefully we will be able to make more ecological sound decisions in the future.

Persuasive Essay On Bass Fishing
That's why where you fish for bass is important. Lakes can be confusing and you can get overwhelmed and confused of where to fish when your are a beginner. That's why fishing at ponds when starting out is so important because it's generally a small body of water with an abundance of bass. You don't normally have to locate them and fish for a few hours to figure out where the bass are. You can usually cast a lure into the water that correlates to the season and catch bass.

Lake Erie Essay
Back in the 1960’s, Lake Erie was declared “dead” because, ironically, it was full of life – just not the right kind (GLIN, n.d.). The algal blooms that formed due to high concentrations of nutrient-loaded city street run off invaded the freshwater lake, killing native species, reducing oxygen quantities, and smothering beaches with its slime (GLIN, n.d.).

The Painting Essay
The river also suggested a breeze, there were ripples that flowed southeast. There were many different shades of blue in the lake and river. The lake had a darker shade of light blue surrounded by a dark blue then lined with black. The lake appeared to have a light shining either on top or the bottom of it, which allowed you to see the grass growing under it. The river had a lighter shade of light blue with white lines to show the ripples but it was surrounded with the same colors as the lake. You did not see any grass growing under the river because there was no light shining on the river.

My Safe Place
Favorite Quote: Anyone can hide. Facing up to things, working through them, that's what makes you different. -Sara Dessen.
To everyone else books are just boring pieces of peper put together. But to me books are my safe place. The one place I can always go to get away from the real world. The safe place to help me calm down and relax and not worry about anything else. The place where i only have to worry about the character and their problems. Reading a book is like entering another world for me. A world where I dont have to worry about my problems, drama, or anything else for that matter. A place where anything can happen. Even though most people think books are lame, to me its a whole new world. Books have always been there for me. There the one thing in this world that will never truly leave me. I know i could have read a book a million times, but i know i can always go back and it will be right there waiting for me. I can always read it again and enter that characters world a million more times. Book have been there for me through it all. Through my parents divorce, my grandpa dying, and my tough years in middle school. And i know no matter what life throws at me, books will always be there for me. Theres so many different books. With each book, its like a whole new experience. You can read about anything your heart desires. Love, adventure, mystery, friendship, reality, the possiblites are endless. And with each new book you enter a whole new world, with different characters, different rules, and a whole different feeling. I love that feeling i get after i read a new book, the shock or excitiment you feel. And each time i pick up a book i cant wait to see what kind of world i will enter next. And with each book i pick up, and each new world i discover, im glad that it takes my mind of my own world. So yeah some people may think books are lame. But to me books will always be my safe place. The one thing always there for me no matter what im dealing with or how old i get. I know one thing for sure each time i pick up a book, i know that the story will always be there waiting for me time after time.
