photos app pictures

If you’re looking to create a slideshow on your iPhone, you might be able to do that right now without downloading another app. That’s because the native iPhone Photos app has a built-in slideshow maker . Many iPhone users aren’t aware of this, but once you learn how to use it it’s easy.

With Photos, you can make a slideshow and change the speed, add themes, and even add music from your music library. If you need a simple slideshow right now without advanced features, you can make your slideshow in the Photos app.

Another native Apple app, iMovie not only makes videos but also great slideshows. iMovie comes pre-installed on many iOS devices, so there’s a chance you already have it downloaded. While Photos is fine if you need a simple slideshow, you should consider iMovie if you want to make something more advanced.

With iMovie, you can import your photos and add extra features like music, transitions, and text effects. iMovie also allows you to add videos, so if you want to add a video to your montage, you can.

iMovie’s slideshows, once completed and exported, can play on most devices in a variety of formats. You can download it to a movie format and play it on a TV as well. To edit the slideshow, open the saved iMovie file to make your edits, and then save it to a movie format again.

Many iPhone users use Google Photos as it makes it easy to back up your files to your Google Drive account. While iCloud is great, sometimes having photos on your Google account too makes you feel sure you won’t lose any. You can even create locked folders in Google Photos . Transferring photos from your iPhone to Google also makes it easy to download pictures on your computer.

Google Photos also makes a quick slideshow with your imported photos. You can do so in the app. Once you make a slideshow, you can broadcast it to a Chromecast or a PC.

While the Google Photos app does make an easy slideshow, there aren’t any extra features. For example, you can’t add music or edit the photos after you create a slideshow. You also can’t change the transition time. Some users also have a hard time finding this feature, as Google Photos calls it a ’Movie’ and not a slideshow. However, If you want a simple slideshow you can broadcast on a Chrome-supported device, consider using Google Photos.

If you need a slideshow done but don’t have any photos of your own, Vimeo Create has you covered. This app includes a stock photo library with millions of photos with unlimited use. With so many photos, you can be sure to find something here that works for you.

Consider using Vimeo Create if you need something professional, especially if you need some stock photos added in as well.

Picagram Video Maker integrates with the most popular social media apps to showcase your slideshows so you can share them to your profile right from the app. It’s great for sharing to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, and more.

SlideShow Maker with Music Fx is another great slideshow app with many great features. You can add your photos and then add music, filters, text, and transitions to make the perfect slideshow.

While it has many of the same features as the other apps, it does have something that sets it apart. That is that SlideShow Maker with Music Fx has the best and most creative transitions.

Some of the transitions are so unique that there’s no other app that can even come close to matching them. It’s also easy to use and has filters that make your photos pop. Add live video feeds to any slide.

Appear in a window, right on your slides, with a picture-in-picture display during remote presentations. Or include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to show off apps.

Present with your team. Seamlessly.

For slideshows with multiple presenters, you can now take turns controlling a single deck — from anywhere — on Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

Play YouTube and Vimeo videos right in Keynote.

Embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo, then play them right in your presentations, without the need to download or open the video in a media player. *

Present over video conference. Like a pro.

Play a slideshow in its own window so you can access other apps while you present. You can view your presenter notes, upcoming slides, and navigation in a separate window as well.

Outline your presentation. Easier.

With outline view for iPhone and iPad, quickly jot down your thoughts, restructure ideas, and move concepts from slide to slide. Then switch to slide view and start designing.

Turn handwriting into text. Magically.

With Scribble for iPadOS and Apple Pencil, your handwritten words will automatically be converted to typed text. Take notes, edit a presentation, or annotate text quickly.

Present like never before. From anywhere.

With Keynote, presenting remotely can be just as seamless as presenting in person. Say goodbye to saying “Next slide, please” — now multiple people can present together, even remotely, with each person taking control of their section of the deck. Add a live video feed of yourself to any slide for a picture-in-picture experience. Or when presenting on your Mac, include a live feed of your iPhone or iPad screen to walk through your apps. You can even play a slideshow in its own window, so you can simultaneously access your notes and other apps.

Any presentation. Any device. Anytime.

You don’t work in one place on just one device. The same goes for Keynote. Work seamlessly across all your Apple devices. The slides you create using a Mac or iPad will look the same on an iPhone or web browser — and vice versa.

You can also work on presentations stored on iCloud or Box using a PC.

Start using Keynote at iCloud.com

Create and present together. Even when apart.

Work together in the same presentation, from across town or across the world. You can see your team’s edits as they make them — and they can watch as you make yours, too. When presenting as a team, you can also take turns controlling a single deck from anywhere.

Use Apple Pencil when inspiration strikes.

Add color, illustrations, and handwritten comments for more beautiful presentations with Apple Pencil on your iPad.

Plays well with Office.

Teaming up with someone who uses Microsoft PowerPoint? Keynote makes it a great working relationship. You can save Keynote documents as PowerPoint files. Or import and edit PowerPoint documents right in Keynote.

presentation apps - Visme logo

Visme is a cloud-based graphic design software that allows designers and non-designers alike to create beautiful and professional presentations, infographics, social media graphics and more.

It has millions of design assets, including stock photography and video, animated vector icons, data visualization tools, hundreds of fonts, and preset color themes. Visme also offers a vast range of templates for presentations of any style; slideshow, video or interactive.

2. Google Slides

presentation apps - Google-slides

Everyone has heard of Google, right? So it’s no surprise that Google Slides is one of the more popular presentation apps and PowerPoint alternatives available.

But popular does not always mean best. While the service is free to any Google account holder, its slide layouts are basic at best and its design capabilities are extremely limited.

presentation apps - Google Slides home page

However, if you need a quick and to-the-point presentation, Google Slides can be a great option since it’s free and has next to no learning curve. If you’ve used PowerPoint, you know how to use Google Slides.

  • Free for anyone with a Google account.
  • Easy to use for creating a basic presentation.
  • Users can collaborate in real time and make comments and edits throughout the slides.
  • Integrate with all Google workspaces, including Google Meet.
  • Limited design capabilities.
  • Essentially a PowerPoint clone.

presentation apps - prezi

Another popular presentation app is Prezi. The main feature that Prezi is known for is allowing its users to easily create non-linear presentations.

This type of presentation can be highly engaging for your audience because instead of side-to-side transitions, you can create a pan and zoom effect each time you switch over to another slide.

presentation app - Prezi homepage

While this type of presentation can be a fun change of pace for your audience, Prezi’s slide design options are not very visually appealing, and non-linear presentations can still be created in many other presentation makers by linking slides.

Prezi templates are also an excellent starting point for creating stunning presentations.

  • Can create engaging and non-linear presentations.
  • Embed interactive elements like video and audio into your presentations.
  • Can only create non-linear presentations, which can actually cause motion sickness in some viewers.
  • Non-linear presentations can also be created in other presentation software, making the need for Prezi obsolete.

presentation apps - Canva

Canva is a well-known cloud-based graphic design software , but it's not too popular for presentations. While it still has the “capabilities” for presentation design, it's main focus is on social media graphics.

As a creative presentation app, it offers a few visually appealing slide templates and you can create designs in the correct presentation dimensions.

presentation app - Canva homepage

There are a few static chart options and Canva also has tons of graphic elements to choose from, such as photos, shapes and icons, so you can still create static presentations in their software.

  • Beautiful premade presentation templates to choose from.
  • Graphic elements like photos, shapes and icons to spice up your design.
  • No content blocks or slide library available to save larger pieces of content and reuse later.

5. Venngage

presentation apps - venngage

Venngage is first and foremost an infographic maker.

Similarly to Canva, they have added basic capabilities for creating presentations , but their design dashboard isn’t nearly as robust as some other presentation apps and software on this list.

While there are a number of presentation templates available for each of their plans, Venngage also doesn’t offer any type of animation or transition features for moving from slide to slide.

presentation app - Venngage homepage

When it comes to creating a presentation, Venngage is in the same boat as Canva. Both certainly can be used to create a presentation, but they aren’t ideal, and they don’t offer as many features as a presentation app meant for building slideshows.

  • Well-designed templates to get you started on your presentation design.
  • Icons and photos to choose from for use in your slideshow.
  • Not created with presentations in mind, so while it’s possible to create one, it’s not ideal.

6. Beautiful.ai

The Beautiful AI logo against a white background

Beautiful.ai is a presentation maker that was created to focus on presentation design, like Visme. But while it’s meant for creating presentations, it doesn’t offer full-range design capabilities.

Instead, you’re given eight different themes with about 60 slide layouts to choose from that keep elements snapped into place, regardless of how you might want to customize your slides.

presentation app - Beautiful.ai

While this software is a great way to “stay in the lines,” per se, with your presentation design, it doesn’t allow you to design your presentation the way you want. If you’re trying to create a slide that falls outside of their parameters, you’re stuck.

  • Visually appealing templates and slide layouts to choose from in your presentation.
  • Easy to use drag-and-drop editor that allows you to quickly slide your points around on your slide to re-order them.
  • Don’t have full-range design capabilities on your slide. You’re stuck only designing in the areas the software lets you design in.
  • No free plans. Basic plan starts at $12 a month.

7. Slidebean

presentation apps - slidebean

Slidebean advertises itself as an AI-powered presentation maker. It allows users to separate the content and design of its slides, inputting content in one section and adjusting the slide design in a separate area.

When creating a presentation in Slidebean, once you add your content into the text boxes, you can switch over to the design section and have their AI automatically assemble your content pieces around the page in a way that makes sense.

presentation app - Slidebean

You’re also able to refresh different AI designs until you find one that you like. Although this can be helpful for those who don’t really want to worry about their design, it is extremely limited, and they don’t have a lot of templates to choose from.

As one of the best business presentation apps, their templates also focus on startups and entrepreneurs , so if your presentation doesn’t have that focus, your selection is limited.

  • No need to worry about design at all.
  • It’s a comprehensive pitching tool for entrepreneurs, not just a presentation maker.
  • Doesn’t give you full range of design capabilities.
  • Has limited templates.

8. Infogram

presentation apps - infogram

Infogram is another cloud-based graphic design software that tries to do everything, including presentations, but really wasn’t built for that specific purpose.

There are less than 50 available premade templates and they aren’t very well designed. Redeeming qualities include the fact that animation and transition features are available, as well as data visualization tools .

presentation app - Infogram

While there are icons and photos to choose from, most of them are premium and not available for use in the free plan.

  • Animation and transitions available for your slideshows.
  • Charts and graphs to add into your slides.
  • Limited presentation templates available.
  • Many graphic elements are premium only.

9. Zoho Show

Presentation apps - Zoho Show logo

Looking for good presentation editing apps? Zoho Show is one you should take a look at.

Zoho Show is a presentation-making app from the Zoho family of Work and Business apps. What once was a simple presentation maker is now a full-fledged collaboration tool for making presentations with impact. Zoho presentations can be static or animated; the level of interactivity is up to you.

Presentation apps - Zoho Show home page

Create and share Show presentations on any Mac or PC plus device using iOS and Android operating systems. Zoho Show also has many integrations with other apps for better productivity. The minimalistic UI is a positive addition to the editor.

Use on any device. Mac, PC, iOS, Android. Large selection of premade templates for every industry. Available to create both online and offline. Lots of integrations.

It makes more sense to use the Zoho suite than Show on its own. You can’t buy just Show; subscriptions are for groups of apps. Not enough data visualization features.

10. Haiku Deck

presentation apps - Haiku

Haiku Deck is a web and mobile-based app that allows you to create and edit presentations. It works well for making some on-the-go edits to a presentation you’ve previously created.

Presentation apps - Haiku Deck home page

You can even download the app onto your smartphone or tablet to create full presentation decks straight from your mobile device. It also syncs presentations between your computer and phone apps, making it easy to create and edit in different areas.

The biggest caveat is that its presentation template design is outdated and not very pretty.

  • Syncs between your desktop and mobile apps, allowing you to create and edit in different areas.
  • Presentation templates are not professionally designed.
  • Design dashboard is outdated.

11. Keynote

presentation apps - keynote

Keynote is another presentation editing app that offers both desktop and mobile versions. It’s exclusively available for iOS smartphones, tablets and computers as it’s the Apple version of PowerPoint.

You can create presentations right on your mobile device and get them ready to present on your computer, which can be handy.

Presentation apps - Keynote home page

You can download the app from the Apple App Store for $9.99. It does come on most Macs and Macbooks automatically, but you’ll have to purchase it for your smartphone or tablet.

  • Allows you to create and edit presentations on both your mobile device and computer.
  • Keynote is designed for Mac. To use it on PC, you need a workaround.
  • Similar to PowerPoint, so it doesn’t really focus on the design of your presentation, just gives you the ability to create one.

12. Flowvella

presentation apps - Flowvella

Flowvella is a downloadable desktop and mobile app that allows you to create interactive presentations wherever and whenever you need to. While it’s a fast and efficient app, it lacks some of the features any good presentation needs.

Since it’s a downloadable app, users are able to work on their presentations without WiFi.

It creates an online link for you to present your slideshow from any device, and offers analytics for you to see who has viewed your presentation.

  • Has offline editing capabilities.
  • Has analytics for you to view presentation performance.
  • Used by museums for interactive displays.
  • Must have space on your phone or computer to download the app.
  • Simple technology with outdated features.

Presentation apps - Pitch logo

The app has integrations with other platforms like Chart Mogul and Brandfetch. Presentations on pro plans have analytics features and better image and video capabilities.

  • Lots of beautiful templates to choose from.
  • Pricing is affordable

Presentations are all you can create on Pitch.

14. Showpad

Presentation apps - Showpad logo

Showpad is another app that works well for sales teams. It allows users to put together various types of content and share it with a tablet user for them to scroll through and annotate.

This can be very useful for sales reps that are on the go with meetings and appointments , so they can easily share their screens with potential customers and walk them through the process.

Presentation apps - Showpad home page

The app is available on both Android and Apple devices, so there aren’t limitations to which smartphones and tablets will have access.

  • Can share and annotate various types of content on the go.
  • Caters to sales teams, so it isn’t an all-in-one presentation maker.

15. SlideShare

The best presentation apps for iphone and ipad.

presentation video app ios

In the wake of the demise of Symbian phones, the near death of BlackBerry and the expensive failure called Windows Phone, there are two obvious mobile OS competitors still standing: Android and iOS. As smartphones, tablets and phablets invade the mobile market, it is only a matter of time before desktop operating systems face the prospect of extinction, unless they somehow evolve. In the wake of this shift, it is necessary for presenters to gear up for things to come.

In a previous post we brought you our list of the best presentation apps for Android . This time we have compiled a similar list for iOS devices. The presentation apps listed below are a combination of applications meant to help presenters create, edit, view, present and remotely control presentations using iDevices.

[This article contains affiliate links. For more information, see our disclosures here .]

1) P owerPoint

Maybe it’s my bias being a PC guy or maybe because Apple is too high and mighty to let Keynote evolve with better cross-platform compatibility. Either way, PowerPoint for iOS is number one in our list of the best presentation apps for iPhone and iPad.

Many end users have complained about the need for an Office 365 subscription that is required to use PowerPoint for iOS, considering there have been a plethora of free apps providing PowerPoint support on iDevices even before this app was launched.

However, like all good things in life, it is only natural that PowerPoint for iDevices isn’t exactly free. While you can get the app for free via the App Store and create or edit documents by signing in with a free Microsoft account, to make the app really worth using, you would need to log in using an Office 365 account .

PowerPoint for iOS brings the famous desktop presentation to iDevices with support for charts, tables, SmartArt Graphics, animations, transitions, speaker notes, etc. Furthermore, like the desktop editions of PowerPoint 2013 and 2016, PowerPoint for iOS also provides a built-in laser pointer, pen and highlighter. Other options include integration with OneDrive, Dropbox & SharePoint.

With PowerPoint for iOS you not only get all great features of the desktop edition of PowerPoint but you can also wirelessly project a presentation using AirPlay, as well as control your slides using an Apple Watch.

Since PowerPoint is available for a wide variety of platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and provides cloud based variants in the form of PowerPoint Online and Office 365, it is much easier to use PowerPoint files for presentations. In fact, many third-party services and apps like Google Drive, SlideShark and WPS Office also provide support for PowerPoint files.

However, it is safe to say that native PowerPoint support on iDevices from the official PowerPoint app by Microsoft is the best option for creating, editing and viewing presentations on an iPhone or iPad device.

Powerpoint for ios

When it comes to making quality presentations, Keynote is an app that cannot be ignored. While there is no real way of using Keynote on a PC or Android device, it is one of the most commonly used presentation apps for Apple users.

For those who have never used Keynote, it gives a plethora of PowerPoint like features for making presentations using readymade themes, with support for adding charts, tables, shapes, etc. Like PowerPoint, Keynote has also added collaboration features (currently going through the beta stage).

Just like OneDrive for PowerPoint, Keynote too provides cloud integration using iCloud. By all means, Keynote is a powerful presentation and there is no shortage of third-party templates which come with some extraordinary graphics and attention grabbing themes.

Other than Apple devices, the iCloud web app allows creating and editing presentations using an internet browser. This unfortunately is the only option for using Keynote other than on an Apple device. This restricts the scope for using Keynote files for presentations and since we live in a PC world, cross-platform compatibility is still a major hurdle for Keynote users.

That said, Keynote is still one of the best presentation apps for presenters and this is why it’s number 2 on our list for recommended presentation apps for presenters using iPhone & iPad devices.

Keynote

3) Google Slides

While Google Slides isn’t the kind of app which provides killer features, it is decent enough to get the job done. Google Slides provide support for PowerPoint files and this app by Google has come a long way since Google Drive apps were rebranded a few years back.

If you’re looking for a decent iOS app which is free to use and can help you create, edit and view presentations from popular formats (e.g. PowerPoint & PDF presentations), then Google Slides isn’t a bad option. Lately, Google Slides templates have improved in quality and third-party template providers for this underrated platform have also begun providing high-quality templates . While Google Slides lags far behind PowerPoint, as we discussed in our comparison of Google Slides Vs PowerPoint , this poor man’s PowerPoint still deserves a bit of love.

google slides

4) Adobe Spark Video

Adobe is known to produce high-quality applications. Ranging from its high-end apps like PhotoShop, Premiere Pro to the free Adobe Reader that millions of users use to view PDF files; Adobe is a name tied to quality apps. Adobe Spark Video is a little known presentation app that can help you create studio quality video presentations.

Unlike most low-end or mid-ranged Android devices, iPhone and iPad devices tend to be more efficient in offering the kind of hardware which can help record better quality videos. This is perhaps the reason apps like Adobe Spark are usually not available for Android. While an Adobe Spark offering for Android is currently in development, it is likely that it might only work with high-end devices. The point is that iDevices have the kind of hardware that gives an edge in making video presentations. You might make such a presentation or video clip by interviewing people on the streets or by capturing an extraordinary event on your mobile device. Such video clips can add a powerful touch to your presentations and enable you to reach out at a very personal level to win hearts and minds.

Coming to Adobe Spark features; you can create videos with a voice-over using an iDevice, add a soundtrack and let the app do its magic. You can choose from an archive of more than 25,000 images and icons for your visual stories and let Adobe Spark automatically render your videos with cinematic animations to give your video presentations and clips a professional look. You can also choose between various themes, fonts and upload videos online.

Adobe spark

5) HaikuDeck

HaikuDeck can be used for making attractive presentation decks via iPhone, iPad or web. You can begin making presentations on an iDevice by logging in using your HaikuDeck account, pick a template and start making slides using all major features you would expect in a good presentation app.

What makes HaikuDeck worth using are the very attractive graphics, availability of a plethora of images, a wide range of useful layouts and the ability to publish your slides online. HaikuDeck is not just a presentation maker but also an app you can use to present presentations in fullscreen mode on iOS devices. Needless to say, you can connect your iDevice to a projector to use HaikuDeck just like Keynote or PowerPoint to present professional presentations.

HaikuDeck has a free and a paid version, with the utility to opt for in-app purchases. But that’s not a bad thing. The high-quality graphics and imagery in premium content (e.g. premium templates) are worth the cost.

haikudeck

6) SlideIdea

SlideIdea is the kind of unique app that can help presenters make their presentations more attention grabbing. The app supports three formats, i.e. PDF, PowerPoint and the app’s very own SLD format. The app comes integrated with OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Box & KingSoft Cloud to help you instantly import an existing slide deck for remodeling.

You can either import a slide deck or make one from scratch using some very attractive templates offered by SlideIdea. The editing features are similar to PowerPoint and Keynote, with a vast library of slide elements, support for whiteboard, animations and some handy transitions to switch your slides in style. Furthermore, you can add audio recording and video clips to create Slidecasts, as well as engage your audience using online polls.

SlideIdea is only available for iPad and works with devices running iOS 5.0 or above.

slideidea

7) Prezi Viewer

It is sad to see that Prezi only has a Prezi Viewer for iDevices. Like its Android counterpart, this app is good for viewing and presenting Prezis. Since you can’t make Prezis on iDevices using an app, Prezi Viewer is only useful for presenters looking to use their iDevices for presenting Prezis.

preziviewer

8. SlideShark

Back in the day, SlideShark was one of the top presentation apps for iOS. However, since the advent for PowerPoint for iOS, its importance has arguably diminished. SlideShark is another app that can be used for viewing and presenting presentations. SlideShark supports uploading, viewing, presenting and sharing PowerPoint presentations while retaining original fonts, animations, colors and graphics. Moreover, there are a number of handy annotation features that can help you annotate slides during a Live presentation.

SlideShark also gives the utility to broadcast presentations online to share them with your audience during a Live presentation. The premium edition of SlideShark also supports PDF files.

9. MyPoint PowerPoint Remote

This is a simple app for remotely controlling PowerPoint slides running on a PC or Mac computer. You will need to install the connector app for your computer, as well as the iOS app for MyPoint PowerPoint Remote on your iDevice.

You can start your SlideShow directly from an iDevice remotely and instantly begin controlling your slides. The app has some advanced premium features that you can opt for, these include annotation tools like a pointer and marker, as well as a timer to time, rehearse and see the elapsed time for your slides.

10) Video Teleprompter

While iDevices have always had some good teleprompter apps, this one is as good as it gets. Video Teleprompter not only allows you to instantly turn your iPhone or iPad device into a teleprompter to read out a script but also enables recording video presentations.

The on-screen teleprompter can play your script and at the same time record your video using your iOS camera to enable you to create a video presentation or podcast.

Video Teleprompter provides good legibility for text that scrolls on your screen and makes it possible for you to face the camera while reading your script as if you are talking to your audience. Hence, it serves the dual purpose of acting as a teleprompter and video recording tool, which makes it perfect for making video presentations or video clips that you might want to include in your slides.

We hope our list of the best presentation apps for iPhone and iPad gave you some useful ideas for making more robust presentations using iDevices. The apps mentioned above can not only be used as standalone presentation apps but you can also use a number of these apps to add something special to your presentations. In fact, you might find it very useful to use some of the above mentioned apps in conjunction to design high-quality slides, video clips and to present them using an iPhone or iPad device.

If you know of an awesome iOS presentation app which you believe should have been included in this list, do share your views with us by leaving a comment below.

Unfortunately SlideShark is going out of business late fall 2018. That is unfortunate – it was the only 3rd party tool for iPads that rendered Powerpoint files correctly.

For the teams that use common cloud storage platforms like Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Sharepoint etc to manage their files, I’d like to recommend https://CrescendoApp.com as a great and inexpensive alternative to large, complex and expensive platforms like Showpad.

Thanks for the update Marek. We’d urge any readers you have been using SlideShark to check out their FAQ page at https://www.brainshark.com/sites/default/files/slideshark-discontinue-faq.pdf for further explanation.

The Crescendo app is certainly worth looking at.

In case you’re into making slideshows from your pics, check out this article: 11 Best apps to make photo slideshow with music (Android & iOS)

Here’s the list of the 6 best apps in that category you should try. Have a look!

Canva: Graphic Design & Video

Let’s start with an app called Canva. Frankly speaking, this app is an absolute must-have for everyone who needs to make presentations on a regular basis.

The coolest thing about this app is the massive amount of templates for all kinds of graphic designs.

However, most people use this platform for making social media graphics and logos and miss its presentation-making capabilities. Therewith, the amount of presentation templates this app has to offer is very impressive.

The app has a full-on presentation section with various pre-made designs, interactive elements, graphics, and so on.

Wherein, the interface of an app is easy enough for people of all ages to cope with it. As for pre-made templates, those are even sorted by themes so you can always pick the one that fits you the most and just paste your data in it.

Beyond that, you can add your own pics, GIFs, multiple animated elements, and all that. Once you’re done you can save the presentation as a PDF file or as a video.

You can even pick several pages from your project you’d like to save if needed. Besides, the whole service is cloud-based so you can reach all your projects on any device.

Google Slides

Google Slides is by far the most popular presentation apps after PowerPoint.

Along with most Google products, this one will also be free for you as long as you have a Google account. This app is probably the best service if you need to make a presentation quickly without much effort.

Therewith, this app has an extremely basic interface so you’ll quickly realize how to use it (it’s basically the same as a PowerPoint).

However, it needs to be said that the app doesn’t have that many creative capabilities and templates as Canva does. To tell the truth, the design capabilities of this app are quite limited but it’s not always a problem. So if all you need is a classic bold project — you go for this service.

The app also empowers you to collaborate with other users and give them entrance to your presentation. All you need to do for that is to send them a link.

Wherein, there are two types of links — the ones that empower people to edit the project and the viewing ones. The service is also cloud-based so you can reach it on your phone or PC.

The main thing you need to know about this app — this is not an editor. The aim of this one is to empower you to where your content wherever you are.

o do so, you need to load any presentation you have onto the app and then share it with anyone.

Therewith, you can make you project private or public to control the number of people who get to view it. You can also make your projects accessible by the link if you want your co-workers or mates to see it.

In case you want your presentation to be seen by the world you can promote it within the app. You can also leave comments under the presentation and even DM their makers.

It needs to be said, the app covers millions of presentations on multiple themes you can view and save. All the projects are sorted by themes and topics so it’s not a big deal to find something specific. Once your project is loaded onto the app you can public it directly on your website if needed.

Microsoft PowerPoint: Slideshows and Presentations

Well, the last one is kinda obvious, right? Microsoft PowerPoint app is a mobile version of your good-old presentation maker.

In case you wonder if the mobile version is any different from the desktop one, the answer is no.

The main point of the app is to give you unlimited access to all your projects on the go. Thus, you can quickly edit, save, and share your presentations wherever you are.

Along with the desktop version, the app also has multiple presentation templates. All the templates are sorted by categories and themes so you can quickly find the one you need. Besides, there are lots of graphic options, illustrations, shapes, and so on. And of course, you can add your own images.

When the presentation is completed, you can save it in various formats and even as a video. In case you’ll decide to go with a vid, you will get to set the transitions and the time each slide will be shown for.

On top of that, you can five other people access your presentation. It’s getting done via the link and you can rather let people view the presentation or edit it.

Desygner Presentations

Desygner Presentations is a great solution for those who would like to create presentations and show them to other people.

The app features a drag-and-drop interface, allowing users to add text, images, and other multimedia elements to their presentations with just a few clicks.

Another strength of Desygner Presentations is its robust collection of templates, which can be a starting point for building a presentation.

The templates are used to cover different topics and themes, such as business presentations, educational presentations, and even personal slideshows.

While the templates are well-designed, some of the elements such as icons and graphics lack the level of polish seen in other presentation-making apps.

This can make the finished product look slightly unprofessional, which may be a concern for those using the app for business purposes.

There are also some occasional glitches and bugs reported by users, such as difficulty in editing text and issues with exporting presentations.

Anyway, its vast collection of templates and user-friendly interface make it an excellent choice for beginners and those without any design experience.

Advantages:

  • Easy-to-use interface.
  • Wide variety of templates.
  • Limited design features.
  • Unpolished graphics.
  • Occasional glitches.

  • Note : Each time you start or pause a recording, the Control Center appears.

  • Tap the flashing Record  button. Your recording will save to the Photos app.

When recording a slideshow from your iPad/iOS device's screen using the method described in this article, the resulting recording will be surrounded by black bars. You may want to crop out those black bars before uploading the video from your device.

Background recording: How to Crop a Screen Recording in iOS .

Review the following screen recordings to understand cropping rationale:

  • PowerPoint Screen Recording in PowerPoint on iPhone X 16:9
  • PowerPoint Screen Recording in PowerPoint on iPhone X 16:9 cropped

Note: Cropping screen recordings appears to result in reduced image quality that is noticeable but not severe.

Background recording: Adding Video to Canvas Media Gallery on iPad

We recommend splitting a longer presentation (such as a 50-minute lecture) into multiple shorter recordings/topics.

To group recordings together, such as having four parts of one lecture for a specific date, you can use Media Gallery Playlists in Canvas. Playlists appear in the Canvas Media Gallery , or can be embedded on a Canvas page using the Rich Content Editor .

Note: It appears that when in Safari on iPad and iPhone, users cannot access the Settings button in Media Galleries to set up playlists. We have a ticket open with the vendor requesting such functions for iPad.

Turn Your Old iPhone or iPad Into a Retro Game Machine

A photo illustration of an iPhone with the PacMan game on it's screen while plugged into a retro joystick.

Do you have an iPhone and a desire to play retro video games? I have good news for you.

This year Apple started allowing emulators into the App Store. Emulators are software applications that simulate old game consoles like those from Nintendo and Sega. They can load game files, called ROMs, that are ripped from the original cartridge or disk.

The easy availability of emulators means you no longer need to jailbreak your iPhone to load up ROMs and play retro games. It also means you don't have to mess with a Raspberry Pi or buy a purpose-built retro gaming console to play classic games on your phone or even TV.

I should mention that it's not legal to download ROMs for games you don't own, and therefore I will not be explaining where you can download ROMs. However, assuming you have access to a collection of ROMs, here's how you can turn any iPhone or iPad—including the old one that you currently keep in a drawer—into a retro gaming console.

Set Up an Emulator

The first thing you're going to want to do is set up an emulator, or multiple emulators. The simplest choice, and the one I'd recommend, is Delta emulator . This is an extremely polished application that supports titles from the NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and even Sega Genesis. Even better, it’s free to download and extremely easy to use, as we wrote back in April .

If you want compatibility with way more systems, including the Playstation, Atari, and even MS DOS, you should check out RetroArch . It's going to be more work to set up—you need to download cores for every system you want to emulate, and there's no end of settings to tweak—but you'll be rewarded with the ability to play more games and to make them look exactly the way you want.

Connect a Controller

You can play retro games with a touchscreen, sort of; the two emulators above will even show an onscreen controller that resembles the original hardware. The problem is that most games are borderline impossible to play without tactile buttons. This is why you're going to want to pair a controller with your device.

There are a few options here. You can buy a purpose-built mobile game controller , if you want—some are even designed to hold your phone in place to give you a form factor similar to the Nintendo Switch. Or, if you don't want to spend money, you can use a controller you already have. We have articles explaining how to connect a PlayStation or XBox controller to your iPhone , along with another guide for pairing Switch Joy-cons with your iPhone ; Apple offers more generalized official documentation . The basics: Open the Settings app, head to Bluetooth , then press and hold the Connect button on your controller. You should see your controller as an option to connect to on your iPhone’s list of available devices. Tap it and you're done.

I did this with my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and it worked perfectly. Loading a few games in Delta, I found the controller worked exactly the way I expected. I was also able to configure the button mapping in the settings if something didn't seem quite right. It's also worth noting that you can connect multiple controllers at once, which is great if you want to play multiplayer games, and they don't all have to be the same kind—you can mix and match controllers if you want to.

Stream to Your TV

At this point I can load retro games and play them with an actual controller, but there's one thing missing: a nice big screen. Sure, the iPhone or iPad display works, but these older games are meant to be played on a TV.

You've got a couple of options here. Delta supports and works fairly nicely with Apple’s AirPlay, assuming you have an Apple TV streamer box or a TV that supports AirPlay. I tested this with a Sony television and found that the lag made things unplayable—fine for an RPG, sure, but horrible for a Mario game. The Verge tested it and didn't notice the lag , though, but they notably were using an actual Apple TV. Your experience will vary—I recommend trying it out.

If you don't like the results, you can look into buying an HDMI dongle for your iPhone. These allow you to connect your phone directly to the TV, meaning you’ll be able to play your game on the big screen with less lag. Apple sells an official cable , but you could also just search for a Lightning-to-HDMI dongle if you're using an older iPhone, or a USB type-C to HDMI dongle if you've got a recent model. Note that the better dongles, including Apple's official ones, offer pass-through charging; this will let you charge your phone while it stays connected to the TV, which is going to be crucial if you're planning on some longer play sessions.

Either way, you can now play any classic game you have a ROM for right on your phone, complete with a real controller and the ability to play on your TV, just like the old days.

“I managed to run away from them. I ran about 200 or 300 feet down the street and when I turned back I saw how a few of them were jumping on the roof of my car, on the windshield,” said Uulu.

The driver said he tried to go back to his car from the sidewalk, to try and close the doors when they began punching him from behind. Uulu said the attack left him with numerous bruises, cuts and a broken leg.

A large group of people on bikes brutally attacked a driver in downtown Los Angeles.

Video from a neighbor captures the moment Uulu is being hit from every angle as he tries to salvage his vehicle from being damaged further.

“I closed my head, I was on the ground and suddenly someone pulled me out from the circle,” said Uulu. “She saved my life, she told me that if no one pulled me out at that time, they literally could kill me.”

Uulu said he was in the process of moving and several items were taken from his car including his wallet and documents. He said the total damages are estimated to be $20,000.

The LAPD said no arrests have been made.

Visual Blast

I am not a tech maven, but I do capture lots of images in my travels. This app is an easy way to capture a bunch of pictures and video clips into a brief cinematic cohesive. There are many thematic options that are easy to audition. Very easy to swap out and in images in the editing process. Plus many music options to choose. Easily add titles and text, if you wish. The free version permits up to 20 images, including a five second video clip. Pay options will allow you to include more. Share the one minute creations to Facebook, friends or your website. A fun way to make yourself appear to be a video editing expert, in the most painfree way.

Pretty Good

I’ve used this app to make movie trailers, projects for school, and even memorabilias of my life. (Ex. parties, trips, etc.) It is really great for all those things, but what I don’t like about it is that you have to wait 30 seconds to preview your video if you don’t want to publish it yet. I know most people would say, “Why is that a problem? It’s only 30 seconds, so it’s not that long!” But, if you’re previewing it after every change you make to it, (like me,) you’re going to get annoyed fast. Another thing I don’t like about it is the music. They don’t have very good options to pick from, and if you want to use let’s say Havana as your song, or Star Wars music or something, you have to have it in iTunes which costs $$$. 🙁 Some people might already have the songs that they want to use in iTunes, good for them, but it might be hard to find the music you’re looking for in iTunes if you’re looking for this song from a video game that most people have never even heard of before (for example). I hope this review was helpful for you to decide wether or not you should get this app!

Great concept but very frustrating

I love the idea of making slideshows both for personal use, ie. special occasions and for Business use, displaying my art line. I took the time to make eight different slide shows each with 20 photos which is the maximum. I emailed some of them to potential clients and posted my personal ones to Facebook. Within 24 hours, all the videos were automatically deleted. I reached out to Animoto customer service and was told “it looks like you are using our legacy mobile app“. My question is, “why is this even available on the App Store NOW if it is old and useless?” I downloaded this version from the App Store on November 8, 2019 and my videos were deleted the next day on November 9. I spent quite a few hours making these slideshows just to have them disappear the next day. Frustrating! Before they were all deleted however, I really enjoyed the app. So much potential!

Alec Baldwin indicted on involuntary manslaughter charge in ‘Rust’ shooting

Alec Baldwin is headed to trial over the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed in 2021 after the actor’s prop gun fired a live round of ammunition on the “Rust” film set.

The decision to indict Baldwin was announced Friday after a New Mexico grand jury heard evidence presented by special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis. He was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter.

“We look forward to our day in court,” said Baldwin’s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, of Quinn Emanuel.

If convicted, Baldwin could face up to 18 months in prison. A trial date has not been set.

In November,  NBC News exclusively obtained  several videos that showed Baldwin handling at least one prop gun and interacting with crew members while he was filming scenes for “Rust.” The five videos showed Baldwin preparing for scenes, firing the guns and acting in character. In two of them, he tries to rearrange crew members after having expressed concerns about their safety. The five videos total about seven minutes. The crew was shooting for two weeks before production was shut down.

In October, two sources told NBC News that Baldwin and the special prosecutors had discussed his taking a plea deal but that it was rescinded in the days before their announcement to bring the case before a grand jury.

The grand jury’s indictment comes after the same New Mexico prosecutors  dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin  in April.

Baldwin has maintained in interviews with ABC News and CNN that he didn’t pull the trigger and that the gun was declared “cold,” with no live ammunition, by assistant director Dave Halls.  Halls pleaded no contest  in March to a misdemeanor charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon and was sentenced to serve six months of unsupervised probation.

“I feel that someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is, but I know it’s not me,” Baldwin said in an  interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos  in December 2021.

The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was charged last year with involuntary manslaughter, and her trial is set to begin Feb. 21. She has pleaded not guilty.
