పండ‌గ సీజ‌న్ల‌లో అతిథులుగా త‌మిళ తార‌ల్నీ ఆహ్వానిస్తుంటుంది మ‌న బాక్సాఫీసు. తెలుగు సినిమాల‌తోపాటు... ఒక‌ట్రెండు త‌మిళ సినిమాలు త‌ప్ప‌నిస‌రిగా ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ముందుకొస్తుంటాయి. బాగుంటే చాలు...  అతిథి మ‌ర్యాద‌ల్ని త‌ల‌పించేలా  ఆ సినిమాల్ని ఆద‌రిస్తుంటారు మ‌న ప్రేక్ష‌కులు.  తెలుగులో బ‌ల‌మైన మార్కెట్‌ని సొంతం చేసుకున్న కార్తి, త‌మిళంలో త‌ను న‌టించే ప్ర‌తి సినిమానీ తెలుగులోనూ స‌మాంత‌రంగా విడుద‌ల చేస్తుంటారు. ‘ఖైదీ’ త‌ర్వాత మ‌రోసారి దీపావ‌ళికి ప్రేక్ష‌కుల ముందుకొస్తున్న ఆయ‌న చిత్రం ‘స‌ర్దార్‌’. పోలీస్‌గా, గూఢ‌చారిగా  కార్తి ద్విపాత్రాభిన‌యం చేసిన చిత్ర‌మిది. తెలుగులో అన్న‌పూర్ణ స్టూడియోస్ విడుద‌ల చేసింది. మ‌రి ‘స‌ర్దార్‌’ ఎలా ఉంది?   కార్తి మ‌రో విజ‌యాన్నిఅందుకున్న‌ట్టేనా?

క‌థేంటంటే: విజ‌య్ ప్ర‌కాశ్ (కార్తి) ఓ పోలీస్ ఇన్‌స్పెక్ట‌ర్. సోష‌ల్ మీడియాలో త‌ర‌చూ ట్రెండింగ్ అవుతుంటాడు. అత‌ని స‌మ‌య‌స్ఫూర్తి తెలివి తేట‌లు అలాంటివి.  ప‌ని కంటే ముందు చుట్టూ మీడియా ఉందో లేదో చూసుకుంటుంటాడు.  ఉంద‌ని తెలిశాకే త‌న ప‌ని మొద‌లు పెడ‌తాడు. ట్రెండింగ్‌లో ఉండ‌టమంటే అంత పిచ్చి.  ఆంధ్రా యూనివర్సిటీ నుంచి ఓ ముఖ్య‌మైన ఫైల్ మాయం అవుతుంది. అందులో సైనిక ర‌హ‌స్యాలు ఉన్నాయ‌ని తెలుస్తాయి.  ఆ ఫైల్ ఎక్క‌డుందో క‌నిపెట్టేందుకు సీబీఐ, రా అధికారులు రంగంలోకి దిగుతారు. విష‌యం తెలుసుకున్న విజ‌య్ ప్ర‌కాశ్ త‌నకి మ‌రింత ప్రాచుర్యం ల‌భిస్తుంద‌ని ఆ ఫైల్ క‌నుక్కునేందుకు న‌డుం బిగిస్తాడు.  ఆ క్ర‌మంలో విజయ్ ప్రకాష్‌కి తన తండ్రి సర్దార్ (కార్తి) గురించి, ఆయ‌న మిష‌న్ గురించి తెలుస్తుంది. దేశ‌ద్రోహిగా ముద్ర‌ప‌డిన స‌ర్దార్ ఎవ‌రు? ఎక్క‌డుంటాడు?  ఆయ‌న చేప‌ట్టిన మిష‌న్‌లో విజ‌య్ ప్ర‌కాశ్ ఎలా భాగం అయ్యాడు? త‌దిత‌ర విష‌యాల‌తో మిగ‌తా క‌థ సాగుతుంది.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: త‌న క‌థ‌ల‌తో  వర్త‌మాన అంశాల్ని, సామాజికాంశాల్ని  స్పృశించ‌డంలో దిట్ట ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు పి.ఎస్‌.మిత్ర‌న్‌. ఆయ‌న తీసిన ‘అభిమ‌న్యుడు’, ‘హీరో’ చిత్రాలు  తెలుగు ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్ని అల‌రించాయి.  ఈసారి స‌మ‌స్త జీవ‌కోటి ప్రాణ‌ధారమైన నీటి  నిర్వ‌హ‌ణ ప్రైవేటీక‌ర‌ణ అంశాన్ని స్పృశిస్తూ ఓ గూఢ‌చారి క‌థ‌తో చిత్రాన్ని తీర్చిదిద్దాడు.  ఒక దేశం ఒక పైప్‌లైన్ పేరుతో కొంత‌మంది స్వార్థ‌ప‌రులు నీటిని త‌మ గుప్పెట్లో పెట్టుకునేందుకు ఏం చేశారు?  దాని కోసం ఎక్క‌డో  అజ్ఞాతంలో, దేశ‌ద్రోహిగా అని ముద్ర‌ప‌డిన ఓ వ్య‌క్తి ఎలా బ‌య‌టికొచ్చి స్వార్థ‌ప‌రుల ఎత్తుల్ని చిత్తు చేశాడ‌న్న‌ది కీల‌కం.  ప‌క్కా ఫార్ములా క‌థ‌నంతోనే సినిమా మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌లో స‌ర్దార్ పాత్ర‌ని ప‌రిచ‌యం చేస్తూ, ఆ త‌ర్వాత హీరో విజ‌య్ ప్ర‌కాశ్‌ని రంగంలోకి దించాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు.  ఆరంభం అంతా హీరోహీరోయిన్ల మ‌ధ్య స‌ర‌దా సన్నివేశాలతో సాగుతాయి. క‌థ‌లోకి వెళ్లేకొద్దీ సినిమాపై ఆస‌క్తి ఏర్ప‌డుతుంది.  ఈ క‌థ‌నం కూడా కొత్త‌దేమీ కాదు. కానీ ప్రేక్ష‌కుడిని మాత్రం ఎంగేజ్ చేయ‌డంలో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు విజ‌య‌వంత‌మ‌య్యాడు. సామాజిక కార్య‌క‌ర్త స‌మీరా ( లైలా) మ‌ర‌ణం,  మాయమైన ఫైల్ చుట్టూ అన్వేష‌ణతో సినిమా  ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా సాగుతుంది.  ఇలాంటి క‌థ‌, క‌థ‌నాలు భార‌తీయ తెర‌కి కొత్తేమీకాదు.  యాక్ష‌న్ ప్ర‌ధానంగా సాగే ఈ  సినిమాకి పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాల ప‌రంగా కూడా ప్ర‌త్యేక‌మైన హంగులేవీ జోడించ‌లేదు.  కానీ కార్తి  రెండుపాత్ర‌ల్లోని న‌ట‌న‌తో ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటాడు.  ముఖ్యంగా స్పై పాత్ర‌ని తీర్చిదిద్దిన విధానం , దానికి స‌హ‌జ‌త్వాన్ని జోడించిన తీరు టికెట్టు ధ‌ర‌ని గిట్టుబాటు చేస్తాయి.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: క‌థానాయ‌కుడు కార్తి గూఢ‌చారి పాత్ర‌లో తండ్రిగా, పోలీస్ పాత్ర‌లో యువ‌కుడిగా చ‌క్క‌టి అభిన‌యం ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించారు. ఆయ‌న మేకోవ‌ర్ విష‌యంలో తీసుకున్న శ్ర‌ద్ధ బాగుంది. పోలీస్ పాత్ర‌లో కూడా స్టైలిష్‌గా క‌నిపిస్తాడు. షాలినిగా రాశిఖ‌న్నా న్యాయ‌వాది పాత్ర‌లో సంద‌డి చేస్తుంది. లైలా, రాజీషా విజ‌య‌న్ క‌థ‌లో కీల‌క‌మైన పాత్ర‌లో క‌నిపిస్తారు.  రాథోడ్ పాత్ర‌లో ప్ర‌తినాయ‌కుడిగా చంకీ పాండే న‌ట‌న ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. జీవీ ప్ర‌కాశ్ సంగీతం సినిమాకి ప్రాణం పోసింది.  కెమెరా, ఎడిటింగ్ విభాగాలు సినిమాకోసం ఏం కావాలో అదిప‌క్కాగా చేశాయి. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు మిత్ర‌న్.. కార్తి ఇమేజ్‌కి, త‌న శైలికి త‌గ్గ‌ట్టుగా ఓ ప‌క్కా మాస్ క‌థ‌తో ఈ సినిమా చేశారు. నిర్మాణం బాగుంది.

విజయ్‌ ప్రకాష్‌ (కార్తి) పోలీస్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌. అతని తండ్రి బోస్‌ మీద దోశద్రోహి అనే ముద్రపడుతుంది. ఆ నింద భరించలేక కుటుంబమంతా ఆత్మహత్య చేసుకుంటుంది. అనాథగా ఉన్న విజయ్‌ని ఓ పోలీస్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ తీసుకెళ్లి పెంచుకుంటాడు. విజయ్‌ చదువుకుని పోలీస్‌ అవుతాడు. తన తండ్రి వల్ల పడ్డ మచ్చ నుంచి బయటకు రావడానికి పబ్లిసిటీ మీద ఆధారపడతాడు. అతను ఇష్టపడే అమ్మాయి షాలిని అడ్వకేట్‌. సోషల్‌ యాక్టివిస్ట్ సమీరా (లైలా)కు సాయం చేస్తుంటుంది. సమీరకు టిమ్మీ (రిత్విక్‌) అనే కొడుకుంటాడు. అతనికి ప్లాస్టిక్‌ బాటిల్‌లో నీళ్లు తాగడం వల్ల అరుదైన వ్యాధి సోకి ఉంటుంది. తన కొడుకులాగా ఎవరూ ఇలాంటి వ్యాధుల బారిన పడకూడదని ఒన్‌ ఇండియా ఒన్‌ పైప్‌లైన్‌ ప్రాజెక్టుకు వ్యతిరేకంగా పోరాడుతుంది సమీరా. ఒన్‌ ఇండియా ఒన్ పైప్‌లైన్‌ ప్రాజెక్టు రాథోడ్‌ (చుంకీపాండే)కి చెందింది. అతను దేశంలోని నదులనన్నిటినీ సంధానం చేసే పైప్‌లైన్‌ పథకాన్ని ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ కోర్టులో సబ్మిట్‌ చేసి చైనా మీద ఓ వాదనలో గెలుస్తాడు. ఈ మొత్తం మిషన్‌కీ సర్దార్‌కి ఓ సంబంధం ఉంటుంది. బోస్‌ అసలు సర్దార్‌గా ఎందుకు మారాడు? అతను దేశద్రోహి ఎలా అయ్యాడు? తన కొడుకు దృష్టిలో దోషిగా ఉన్న అతను అసలు అన్ని ఏళ్లు ఏమైపోయాడు? అతనికి రెడ్‌ కోడ్‌ని ఎవరు పంపారు? ఆంధ్రా యూనివర్శిటీ అల్లర్లకు సర్దార్‌ తప్పించుకోవడానికీ ఉన్న లింకేంటి? ఇలాంటి పలు రకాల ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానం కావాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.

కార్తి డ్యూయల్‌ రోల్‌లో నటించారు. పోలీస్‌ ఇన్‌స్పెక్టర్‌ విజయ్‌ ప్రకాష్‌కీ, బోస్‌ అలియాస్‌ సర్దార్‌ కేరక్టర్‌కీ చక్కగా న్యాయం చేశారు. గెటప్పుల నుంచి ప్రతి విషయంలోనూ జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకుని చేశారు. డైరక్టర్‌ మిత్రన్‌ సినిమాల మీద కోలీవుడ్‌లో ఓ ఎక్స్ పెక్టేషన్స్ ఉంటాయి. ఈ సినిమాతో మరోసారి తనమీద ఉన్న నమ్మకాన్ని నిలబెట్టుకున్నారు డైరక్టర్‌. ఏదో స్పై సినిమా చేశామంటే చేశామన్నట్టు తీయకుండా, జనాన్ని ఆలోచింపజేసే నీళ్ల గురించి అందంగా కథ అల్లుకున్నారు. ప్లాస్టిక్‌ వాడకం వల్ల కలిగే ఇబ్బంది, తాగే నీటిని జాతీయ స్థాయిలో కమర్షియలైజ్‌ చేస్తే కలిగే అనర్థాలు వంటివాటిని చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. తెలుగులో రాకేందు రాసిన డైలాగులు బావున్నాయి. తన తల్లి చనిపోయిన తర్వాత విజయ్‌తో కూర్చుని టిమ్మీ మాట్లాడే మాటలు ఎలాంటివారినైనా కదిలిస్తాయి. నటీనటులందరూ ఆయా పాత్రల్లో ఒదిగిపోయారు. కెమెరా పనితనం, ఆర్ట్ వర్క్ కూడా బావుంది. నేపథ్య సంగీతం కొన్నిచోట్ల హైలైట్‌ అనిపిస్తుంది. పాటలు సోసోగా ఉన్నాయి. ఫైట్లు భారీగా ఉన్నాయి.

లాయర్‌ కేరక్టర్‌లో రాశీఖన్నా, సోషల్‌ యాక్టివిస్ట్ గా లైలా, బోస్‌ భార్యగా రజీషా విజయన్‌ మెప్పించారు. మిలిటరీలో పనిచేసే వారికి ఇళ్లల్లో ఉండే గౌరవం, ఏజెంట్లకు దక్కని గౌరవం గురించి కూడా సున్నితంగా చర్చించారు సినిమాలో. సీక్వెల్స్ హవా నడుస్తున్న ఈ హయాంలో సర్దార్‌ కి కూడా సీక్వెల్‌ ఉందనే విషయాన్ని నర్మగర్భంగా చెప్పారు మిత్రన్‌.

Sardar Review

What's Behind

Kollywood actor Karthi is known for his high-octane intense films. He recently entertained Ponniyin Selan and is now getting ready to thrill movie lovers with Sardar. Sardar OTT streaming rights have been bagged by Aha Tamil and will be done after it finishes its theatrical run. The film is directed by Mithran of Abimanyudu (Irumbu Thirai) fame. The film is releasing today October 21 and let us find out how Karthi thrilled movie lovers.

Story Review

Story of Sardar is all about a sincere spy who sacrifices everything putting the nation above all. Inspector Vijay Prakash (Karthi) is media savvy and ensures that whatever he does gets public attention. While preventing a group of people from protesting against a company, Vijay finds out that vital security information has been stolen. During the investigation, he learns about shocking developments related to his past. To unravel the mystery behind Vijay's penchant for public image, his relationship with his girlfriend, lawyer Shalini (Raashi Khanna), Sameera (Laila), and their connection to Sardar alias Chandrabose (Karthi), enjoy Sardar on screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

The story of Sardar penned by PS. Mithran is all about a spy whose credentials are suspicious. Mithran despite coming up with a familiar story arc, emerged successful most of the time with a racy screenplay and direction. The screenplay and narration are racy in the first half which after a few hilarious and entertaining elements picks up the pace and then continues in the same vein with an interesting interval bang. The way he narrated and highlighted the water mafia connecting the dots with international and national politics thrills and excites all. While he showed Karthi in the role of Vijay Prakash as jovial, naughty, and at the same times intelligent in the investigation, he highlighted the Sardar role played by Karthi throughout the second half with intense and high-octane action elements. But for all the positives, the second half is marred by routine elements while the first half is marred by romantic and hilarious elements which dragged the pace of the film. Even the flashback episode in the second half affected the tempo and the Tamil flavor got the viewers disassociated with the Telugu movie lovers. The antagonist role though shown as the most powerful, the conflict between antagonist and protagonist is not taken to another level. For all the highs in action elements and interesting twists and thrills, the narration is low on emotions and though few are there, they fail to connect chords with the viewers.

Karthi known for his versatile acting slipped into the role effortlessly. He performed well as a media-savvy police officer and looked mischievous while flirting with his girlfriend. At the same time, he showed variations in his expressions while getting frustrated when remembered his past and while investing the case in a serious mode. As Sardar, Karthi surprises with his makeover and image transformation. He enacted deadly stunts to surprise all his fans. Raashi Khanna got a limited role and she performed well in the role of a lawyer. Rajisha Vijayan is ok as the second heroine. Laila played an important role and made her presence felt. Chunkey Pandey as the villain looked stylish and made an impact. Others performed according to their roles.

The cinematography of George C Williams is neat and gave a rich feel to the proceedings. The visuals are realistic and captivating. Songs tuned by GV. Prakash Kumar is situational but they acted as speed breakers and are full of Tamil flavor. He elevated the scenes with his superb background music. Editing of Ruben could have been better as there are many routine elements in the narration. Dialogues are good and stunt choreography thrilled the viewers. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Altogether,  Karthi and Mithran's combination increased expectations among movie lovers. Karthi is known for his impactful performances while Mithran is known for his thrilling message-oriented films. With Sardar, the duo doesn't disappoint anyone. Mithran beautifully balanced the thrilling twists and messages he is popular along with Karthi's mass heroism. However, after the interesting first half where the conflict is established in a perfect manner highlighting the major problem the world is facing and how India could be endangered, the second half slows down with the flashback episodes. The moment Mithran tries to highlight the emotions, the narration deviated it affected the film in a big way. After some time, people get a feeling that Mithran is getting too predictable, and the same with Karthi. Had Mithran highlighted the emotions successfully as he did in Irumbu Thirai (Abhimanyudu), the impact of Sardar could have been even more. Mithran's story has some familiar shades of a spy being branded as a traitor and his flashback and how he is vindicated. But he with his screenplay and direction generated interest balancing with Karthi's impactful performance. A little bit of fine-tuning of the screenplay could have helped the film in a big way. Altogether Sardar turns out to be an interesting spy thriller. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.75 rating for Sardar.

ఎలా ఉందంటే..  ప్రస్తుతం సమాజంలో జరుగుతున్న మోసాలను ప్రజలకు అర్థమయ్యేలా చూపించడంలో దర్శకుడు పీఎస్‌ మిత్రన్‌ దిట్ట. తొలి చిత్రం ‘అభిమన్యుడు’లో బ్యాంక్ మోసాలు, డిజిటల్ మోసాల్లో దాగి ఉన్న నిజాన్ని బయటకు తెచ్చాడు. కమర్షియల్‌ అంశాలను జోడీస్తూనే ‘హీరో’లో కూడా ప్రజలకు ఉపయోగపడే సందేశాన్ని ఇచ్చాడు. ఇప్పుడు ‘సర్దార్‌’లో కూడా ఓ భారీ మోసాన్ని జనాలకు చూపించాడు. నీటి నిర్వాహణను ప్రైవేటీకరణం చేయడం వల్ల జరిగే నష్టాలు ఏంటి? సమస్త జీవకోటికి ప్రాణధారమైన నీటిని కొంతమంది స్వార్థపరులు తమ గుప్పెట్లో పెట్టుకుంటే ఎలాంటి పరిణామాలు ఎదురవుతాయి అనే అంశాన్ని ఓ గూఢచారి కథతో ముడిపెట్టి చూపించాడు. పైప్‌లైన్‌ పేరుతో భారతదేశ నీటిని తన గుప్పిట్లో పెట్టుకోవాలనుకున్న ఓ బడా వ్యాపారవేత్త ప్రయత్నాన్ని​.. దేశద్రోహి ముద్రవేసుకొని, అజ్ఞాతంలో ఉన్న ఓ వ్యక్తి ఎలా అడ్డుకున్నాడు అనేదే సర్దార్‌ కథ.  

సర్దార్‌ పాత్రని పరిచయం చేస్తు కథ ప్రారంభం అవుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత విజయ్‌ కుమార్‌ని రంగంలోకి దించాడు దర్శకుడు. ఫస్టాఫ్‌ అంతా విజయ్‌ కుమార్‌ చుట్టూ తిరుగుతుంది.  మీడియాలో పడేందుకు అతను చూపించే ఆసక్తి, హీరోయిన్‌తో ప్రేమాయణం ఇలా సాదాసీదాగా సాగుతుంది. సామాజిక కార్యకర్త సమీరా (లైలా) మరణంతో కథ మలుపు తిరుగుతుంది. ఇక అసలు కథ సెకండాఫ్‌లో మొదలవుతుంది. సర్దార్‌ ప్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌, అతను చేపట్టిన మిషన్‌ సంబంధించిన సన్నివేశాలతో సెకండాఫ్‌ ఆద్యంతం ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగుతుంది. అయితే ఇలాంటి కథలు మనకు కొత్తేమి కాదు. ఒక గూఢచారి దేశం కోసం తన జీవితాన్ని ఎలా త్యాగం చేస్తాడు? అనేది గతంలో చాలా సినిమాల్లో చూపించారు.  ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్ సన్నివేశాలు కూడా గత సినిమాల మాదిరే ఉంటుంది. కానీ కార్తి పాత్రలని తీర్చిదిద్దిన విధానం బాగుంది.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే... ఈ సినిమాలో కార్తి తండ్రీకొడుకులుగా ద్విపాత్రాభినయం చేశాడు. పోలీసు అధికారి విజయ్‌ కుమార్‌గా, 60 ఏళ్ల వయసుపైబడిన గూఢచారి సర్దార్‌గా రెండూ పాత్రలను అద్భుతంగా పోషించాడు. అతని బహుళ గెటప్‌లను మెచ్చుకోవాలి. లాయర్‌ షాలినిగా రాశీఖన్నా ఆకట్టుకుంది. అయితే ఆమె పాత్రకు నిడివి తక్కువనే చెప్పాలి. సామాజిక కార్యకర్త సమీరాగా లైలా తనదైన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకుంది. విలన్‌గా చుంకీ పాండే మరోసారి తన అనుభవాన్ని తెరపై చూపించాడు. మిగిలిన నటీనటులు తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర నటించారు. ఇక సాంకేతిక విషయాలకొస్తే.. జీవీ ప్రకాశ్‌ సంగీతం బాగుంది. తమిళ ఫ్లేవర్ కారణంగా తెలుగు పాటలు రిజిస్టర్ కాలేదు కానీ నేపథ్య సంగీతం ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. జార్జ్ సి విలియమ్స్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ, రూబెన్‌ ఎడిటింగ్‌ బాగున్నాయి. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగినట్లు ఉన్నతంగా ఉన్నాయి.

What’s it about?

Vijay (Karthi) is a sincere police officer who carries personal baggage from his past. On the other hand, a massive water project is being launched in India, and a few ‘RAW’ agents have discovered flaws in it and plan to derail it at any cost. To deal with this powerful water mafia, they call in the mighty Sardaar. Vijay becomes involved in this case as well, and he has a close relationship with Sardaar. Who exactly is Sardaar? What is his relationship with Vijay? All of these questions will be addressed in the rest of the movie.

Mithran, the director of films such as Abhimanyudu, has directed ‘Sardaar.’ This time, he chooses the water mafia as the setting for a story about a father-and-son relationship with an action backdrop. While his father plays a spy, his son plays a cop. The way this aspect is established is quite interesting. Mithran has conducted extensive research on RAW agents and spies in general.

The film is packed with stylized action, and Mithran nails it. The director has done an excellent job in executing a few scenes in which Sardaar’s true identity is revealed and how he escapes. The action shown appears to be intense and of a high standard for the south. Sardaar also has father-son drama, but it appears jaded because the scenes are routine and disrupt the flow of the film.

‘Sardaar’ has an interesting premise, but it starts slowly and gets boring in the middle where the family drama comes in. In places, the narration is formulaic, as things happen too easily for the hero.

Karthi gets a tailor-made role in this film in terms of performance. He excels at playing multiple roles. However, it is the role of Sardaar in which he lives and provides many high moments for his fans and audience.

Raashi Khanna plays a lawyer and does well in the part. Laila, a former actress, is seen in a key role, and Rajisha is also impressive in her mature role. The bad guy is played by Chunkey Pandey, who is quite impressive and adds depth to this action drama.

Sardaar is technically sound. George Williams’ camerawork is fantastic. The music was composed by GV Prakash, and his songs are terrible. In Telugu, they sound even worse. His BGM is also adequate but not spectacular. The editing is the film’s biggest villain because the runtime is painfully long and there is a lag in both halves that should have been cut.

Bottom-line: Overall, ‘Sardar’ has an intriguing premise and Karthi steals the show with his excellent performance. The audience is captivated by the action sequences and thrills. The drama and pace, however, slow down in key areas. Except for the lengthy runtime and a few routine moments, ‘Sardar’ is a thrilling ride for action movie lovers.

Sardar Review – Engaging, But Very Lengthy

Who is Vijay’s father? Why is he branded a traitor? How the whole thing is linked to the water mafia completes the movie’s story.

Performances Karthi wholly carries the movie. He plays the dual role of father and son. The father is a spy, whereas the son is the police. The actor shows subtle variations in body language playing the two parts. It is mainly seen in action scenes where the spy character has a more trained look. Karthi also dons various looks, which are neatly done without looking tacky.

Dramatically there is nothing new on offer for Karthi. We have seen him do all before. But, like any seasoned actor, he does the whole routine with intensity and interest. It helps create an engaging narrative, and that’s a win as far as action flicks like Sardar goes.

PS Mithran of Abhimanyudu and Shakthi fame directs Sardar. It is another action thriller along the lines of his past two films with an entirely new backdrop and set-up.

If it was the army and digital theft in Abhimanyudu, then it was the education backdrop and superhero in Shakthi. Similarly, we have a spy and water mafia backdrop in Sardar.

What Mithran does after finding his protagonist and antagonist is tick all the boxes related to the setting from previous such attempts and bombard it with the research done on the backdrop. So, we had lots and lots of dialogue along with relatable situations concerning hacking, the dark web, education and aspiration previously. Now, we have the issue related to the water mafia and its politics.

One can instantly see that much effort has been put in related to the content. But is that alone enough to get an engaging narrative? The answer to this leads to mixed reactions.

Some parts are no doubt engaging. But, at the same time, there are stretches that are plain, predictable, and boring. The human angle related to the lead characters and their drama is as routine as it gets.

What works is the relentless action and thrills related to the core plot and spy genre. They have been handled excellently by the director. Where he fails is mixing it with the proper drama to give a compelling narrative.

A couple of stretches, one in the first half leading to the revelation of Sardar, followed by the fight and then his escape. Another one in the second half going all the way to the point of ‘Laughing Buddha’, is done well. They offer action and thrill in equal doses, even if there is a little lag in between.

Everything before and after lacks the same momentum and impact. The romantic track during the starting half an hour and then the long and elaborate climax induce boredom despite a lot being packed in it.

It is why in the end, after all that has transpired, the good parts seem to take a backseat. We remember the lengthy climax coming out with the feeling of tiredness.

Overall, Sardar is a decent spy thriller that has a couple of terrific action-thriller stretches. However, it fails to keep the same momentum around them and ends as a passable affair. If you like the genre, give it a try, but be wary of the length and boredom.

Chunky Pandey has a good role as a baddie keeping in mind what is generally on offer in such parts. It offers him some scope to do something, and he does an adequate job. There are many more bits and pieces of characters. Among them, Rithvik and Munishkanth impress.

Music and Other Departments? GV Prakash Kumar’s songs are forgettable, especially in Telugu, with terrible lyrics. The background score is better, but it’s not the special category. George C Williams’s cinematography is superb. The editing adds to the slickness, but one can’t help but feel the narrative is overlong. It needed more trimming. The writing is acceptable for the terrain, although some expository dialogues were better avoided.

Sardar movie review: A long-winding over-the-top movie

The world is shrinking both in terms of time and space. Only Tollywood, while it could take advantage of the latter, is not willing to recognise the former.

Resultantly a major Tamil film gets dubbed to a reasonable footfall at the theatres, the time it takes to tell the story of a mafia planning to rob the world of drinking water takes all of nearly three hours. Film makers just cannot get over the idea that you do not need three hours to tell a gripping story and there is nothing more important than telling a story in a crisp and compelling manner.

While song and dance are indeed an integral part of our cinema and thus romance an imperative, our filmmakers have yet to learn the fine art of coming up with a balancing act.

This outing is a fine example of how you fail may not even set out to achieve this goal. The lead romantic pair sing songs wholly irrelevant to the main story for the first half hour in typical Telugu-Tamil style and then there is not a whisper of romance till the Director decides to punctuate the narrative with the presence of the heroine at odd moments. There has also been a constant parallel narrative in our cinema that only the extra brave courageous and maltodextrins character that can win battles and the ordinary are so distant in the background that life is mocking them.

Director Mitran PS takes away 165 minutes of your life in exchange for the ticket price and believes in giving you your money's worth-quantitatively. There not only lies the problem but there it starts.

Juxtaposition this long duration with the lack of talent to spread a story thin and even and you get into a film that has bouts of needless violence , spells of high voltage drama and hours of meandering.

Inspector Vijay Prakash (Karthi) is that Inspector who we find only in our cinema and rarely in our police stations. Efficient, duty conscious and proactive. Brought up by his constable uncle (Munishkant) he has to overcome a huge social barrier as he is perceived by many as the son of a traitor – his father Bose (Karthi- in the other role too). For romance he has a lawyer in Shalini (Raashi Khanna) while Pappa Bose has Rajisha Vijayan.

The sudden disappearance of Sameera (Laila) a social activist whose writ petition against a pipeline project kick starts the proceedings we have peeps into the past. Leaking here and there in the tale is how Sardar is a Intelligence Officer who is doomed to obscurity and notoriety leaves a son who would walk an extra mile for popularity and fame. Dad has been declared a traitor and missing while the entire family commits suicide. This haunts the son (a la Zanjeer to Ghost). There is Maharaja Rathore (Chunkey Pandey) who is an ex-army officer who has resigned and is now the villain in chief who promises the world that India would have a single pipeline for drinking water but is actually robbing the innocent of their lawful share and making them dependent on bottled water which also has disastrous side effects as seen in a little boy Timmy (Rithvik).

Hours and hours of cinema and finally through the prisons of Bangladesh the beach sands of the Bay of Bengal and the streets of Tamil Nādu Papa and Son fight the evil and in the midst of debris and bodies dead and ears deafened you come to a climax which shows the complete lack of control that the film maker has on his product.

The saving grace in the film is the performance from Karthi in a dual role. We are saved of similar mannerisms to establish the relationship. We are also saved of dramatic reunions and the like. We could well have been saved of a lot more. Simply reiterated, the fight of an international mafia eyeing water as the critical factor with the armed forces either conniving or turning a blind eye to the prospective tragedy simply does not require three hours, much less a contrived romance between the fighting protagonists – a police officer and an activist lawyer. Sardar is over the top and for those who order for just that from the menu card this satiates.

స‌ముద్ర‌తీరానికి స‌మీపంలో ఉన్న ప‌ల్లెటూళ్లో భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యం చాలా రోజులుగా మూత‌ప‌డి ఉంటుంది. ఆ బంగ‌ళా పేరు వింట‌నే ఊరివాళ్లు వ‌ణికిపోతుంటారు. భార్గ‌వి (రీమా క‌ల్లింగ‌ల్‌) అనే అమ్మాయి ఆత్మ‌గా మారి ఆ ఇంట్లో తిరుగుతుంద‌ని, అందులో అడుగుపెట్టిన వారిని చంప‌డానికి ప్ర‌య‌త్నిస్తుంద‌నే ర‌క‌ర‌కాల ఊహాగానాలు వినిపిస్తుంటాయి. బ‌షీర్ (టోవినో థామ‌స్‌) అనే రైట‌ర్ ఆ ఊరికి కొత్త‌గా వ‌స్తాడు. భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యం చ‌రిత్ర గురించి తెలియ‌క అందులో అద్దెకు దిగుతాడు.

ఓ పాడుబ‌డ్డ బంగ‌ళాలో యువ‌తి ఆత్మ ఉండ‌టం, అందులోకి హీరో అడుగుపెట్ట‌డం, ఆత్మ‌కు ఓ ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌, ద‌య్యం రివేంజ్‌కు హీరో సాయ‌ప‌డ‌టం అనే కాన్సెప్ట్ హార‌ర్ సినిమాల్లో తీసి తీసి అరిగిపోయింది. ఈ పాయింట్‌ను ఎన్ని ర‌కాలుగా సిల్వ‌ర్ స్క్రీన్‌పై చూపించ‌వ‌చ్చో అన్ని ర‌కాలుగా మ‌న ద‌ర్శ‌కులు చూపించేశారు.

కామెడీ, ఎమోష‌న్స్‌, ల‌వ్ స్టోరీ...అన్ని జాన‌ర్స్‌లో ఈ హార‌ర్ పాయింట్‌ను ఇరికించేసి సినిమాలు చేశారు..అయినా అప్పుడ‌ప్పుడు ఇలాంటి హార‌ర్ సినిమాలు ఇంకా వ‌స్తూనే ఉన్నాయి. భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యం అలాంటి క‌థే.

ఓ ప్రేమ జంట జీవితంలోని విషాదాన్ని ఓ ర‌చ‌యిత ఎలా వెలుగులోకి తీసుకొచ్చాడ‌న్న‌దే భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యం మూవీ క‌థ‌. భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యంలోకి ఓ దొంగ ప్ర‌వేశించ‌డం, అత‌డికి ఆత్మ క‌నిపించే సీన్‌తోనే ఈ సినిమా మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. ఆ త‌ర్వాత భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యంలో రైట‌ర్ అయిన హీరో అద్దెకు దిగ‌డం, ఆ బిల్డింగ్ గురించి అత‌డికి ఊరివాళ్లు చెప్పే క‌థ‌ల‌తో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు క‌థ‌ను ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా ముందుకు న‌డిపించాడు.

హీరోకు, ఆత్మ‌కు దోస్తీ కుద‌రిన‌ట్లుగా ఫ‌స్ట్ హాఫ్‌లో చూపించారు. సెకండాఫ్‌లో భార్గ‌వి, శివ‌కుమార్ ల‌వ్‌స్టోరీ, వారి ప్రేమ‌క‌థ‌కు విల‌న్ ఎవ‌ర‌న్న‌ది రివీల్ చేసి క‌థ‌ను క్లైమాక్స్ వైపుకు సాగించారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. క్లైమాక్స్‌ లో త‌న మ‌ర‌ణంపై భార్త‌వి ఎలా రివేంజ్ తీర్చుకుంద‌న్న‌ది చూపించారు.

రెగ్యుల‌ర్ హార‌ర్ సీన్స్‌...

క‌థ ప‌రంగా భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యంలో ఎలాంటి కొత్త‌ద‌నం లేదు. కానీ ద‌య్యం పేరుతో కామెడీ చేయ‌డం, కుర్చీలు, త‌లుపులు క‌దులుతున్న‌ట్లుగా ట్రిక్కులు వాడి భ‌య‌పెట్ట‌డం లాంటి రెగ్యుల‌ర్ హార‌ర్ సినిమాల్లో ఉండే సీన్స్ ఇందులో లేకుండా క్లీన్ హార‌ర్ మూవీగా ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు భార్గ‌వి నిల‌యం సినిమాను తెర‌కెక్కించాడు.

డ‌బుల్ మీనింగ్ డైలాగ్స్‌, క‌థ‌కు సంబంధం లేని అవ‌స‌ర‌మైన సీన్స్ సినిమాలో ఒక్క‌టి కూడా క‌నిపించ‌వు. కంప్లీట్ ఆర్ట్ ఫిల్మ్‌లా క‌థ‌, క‌థ‌నాలు సాగుతాయి. ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు రాసుకున్న ఒక‌టి రెండు ట్విస్ట్‌లు కూడా ఈజీగానే గెస్ చేసేలానే ఉన్నాయి. భార్గ‌వి, శివ‌కుమార్ ల‌వ్‌స్టోరీ బోరింగ్‌గా సాగుతుంది.

ర‌చ‌యిత పాత్ర‌లో టోవినో థామ‌స్ న‌ట‌న బాగుంది. అత‌డి లుక్‌, డైలాగ్ డెలివ‌రీ కొత్త‌గా ఉన్నాయి. కంప్లీట్ వ‌న్ మెన్ ఆర్మీలా స్టార్టింగ్ నుంచి ఎండింగ్ వ‌ర‌కు ఒక్క‌డే సినిమాను న‌డిపించాడు. ప్రేమ జంట‌గా రీమా క‌ల్లింగ‌ల్‌, రోష‌న్ మ‌థ్యూ ప‌ర్వాలేద‌నిపించారు. విల‌న్‌గా టామ్ చాకో యాక్టింగ్ ఒకే.
