Frighteningly similar research to my thesis...I started a lit review a while back for my thesis topic and picked out 14 articles to include, which never directly touched on my hypothesis and related research questions. Now, in my final semester, and in an attempt to add more articles to the lit review, I found a very old article that proves my hypothesis already. After talking with one of my advisors, he stated that he thought I approached it in a different enough way, so I could still include the data and maps I've been working on. He said I would need to branch off more and focus on another related aspect to the thesis. I started researching my topic using a bunch of different key words about some of those other possible avenues, and I'm finding that so much of what I'd thought to do is already done. I'm not sure where this leaves me. Do I just cite them all and approach it like an English research paper without adding any real contribution with data and analysis? I haven't even touched the surface on all the articles that could be related. I'm sure there's plenty more. What if I miss some? I don't have long to do my thesis, so I'm feeling kind of pressured as it is just to get this done within the next 5 weeks. Have any of you been in this situation? Any advice is appreciated!
