Our menu is inspired by the history and culture of the Balearics. Chef Alexander Larrea takes inspiration from his childhood with dishes like Secreto Iberico with red onion & sumac and Turbot a la Plancha with spring onions & caper water, and he pushes the boundaries of Ibicenco cuisine with dishes like Courgette Babaganoush served with feta, spicy pinenuts & pickled strawberries and Sepionet & Crayfish Risotto with black garlic alioli & saffron. Cocktails are at the heart of the Experimental ethos. Our menu at Experimental Beach is a twist on what we know best. A touch of eccentric whimsy with a nod to the classics. An Old Cuban to toast the setting sun, a Pineapple Express with a friend, a Suzette a L’Anis to end an cosy dinner. And of course, cocktails may be our heart and soul, but wine is never forgotten. Our list leans heavily on small Spanish producers, alongside our favourite domaines across France.

A taste of ... experimental beach ibiza.

This stylish restaurant offers tasty Mediterranean food, great vibes and a unique location.

Experimental Beach Ibiza lies on the coast near the airport, at Cap d'es Falcó , at the end of a long dirt track that runs parallel to Las Salinas Natural Park. As you drive past the marshes and wetlands towards it, you get the feeling you're headed somewhere secluded and special - it's a hunch that's confirmed on arrival.

The first thing that grabs your attention is the splendid view beyond its pebbly shoreline of the south coast of the island and the tip of the magical islet of Es Vedrà peeking up in the distance.

Although you can't see the sun setting directly in the sea here until late September, it's a marvellous spot to watch the rolling waves and the planes landing, to admire the colours of the distant sunset, and - if you're lucky - spot one of the pink flamingos that frequent the salt flats.

No wonder, then, to discover it's such an 'in' place with the Instagram crowd.

After parking - a doddle thanks to the venue's valets - we made our way up the steps to the wide terrace. Two receptionists welcomed us and guided us to our table. Still early for sunset, Experimental Beach was thronged with a cosmopolitan crowd enjoying the music, sunbathing on its affordably priced loungers, and preparing for dinner.

Experimental Beach Ibiza’s chef, Alexander Larrea, is Basque with Catalan roots: if that’s not a promising sign when it comes to fine dining, we don’t know what is! What’s more, we’d heard he had an innovative approach to traditional Ibicencan cuisine and wanted to find out more. 

After a long, hot day, we needed something cool, so we asked the maitre d' for some cold starters. He came up with three ideal choices:

Simple but so suitable for the weather: crisp, fresh Ibizan vegetables and Mediterranean mezze with a choice of three yummy dips.

Served on a bed of ice, the fruit salad contained a nice mix of fruits from different climes.

Experimental Beach Ibiza is a cool beach restaurant that stands out from the competition thanks to its unique, isolated location on a part of the coast that most visitors to the white island don’t know.

It attracts a mix of sophisticated young clubbers and older discerning diners, drawn to its alluring combination of boho simplicity, jaw-dropping vistas, ingenious Mediterranean gastronomy, high-end mixology, and upbeat music.

It’s a great spot to spend the day and, when evening comes around, to dine beneath the myriad stars in the Ibizan night sky. Just make sure you  book your table or sunbed in time.

Located at Cap Des Falco, in Ses Salines beach, this beach club features a bar, a restaurant and white luxurious sun beds under the Mediterranean sun.

Situated right in the heart of Ses Salines natural park, the bar and restaurant have a lovely setting, and there is a very relaxed atmosphere with views across the Mediterranean to the very tip of Es Vedra.

You can book a sunbed and unwind under the sun. There is also a boutique where you can check out the latest in Ibizan fashion. And if you want to stay active during your holidays, you can always attend one of their morning yoga sessions, or opt for the yoga+lunch package.

Open from April until October.

The restaurant serves a combination of traditional tapas dishes, summery starters plus beach classics, luxury grilled meats and seafood prepared with quality, fresh and local ingredients.

High spirits in Ibiza

The new island outpost of the Experimental Cocktail Club is a far cry from its city counterparts in every sense but the cocktails. The one on Gerrard Street in London's China Town, for example, is all clandestine speakeasy-feel, through a scruffy, unmarked door; the Paris original is in urbane-cool Le Sentier. Their summer-loving little sister, on the other hand, can be found swaying on a beach in the sunshine.

Experimental Beach is one of two entirely new beach bars to launch in Ibiza this season. At the back of Salinas beach (in place of what was Cap des Falco) on the south coast, Experimental Beach has a distinctly more laid-back, more rustic vibe than its rival newcomer, Nikki Beach - more boho-babes-on-holiday, sparkly with finds from Las Dalias hippie market, than modelesque Russians swinging by on their superyachts.

So down to business: the cocktails. Other than signature favourite the Old Cuban, most of the cocktails will have more of a wanderlust spirit, made with drinks from all over the world. The clubs' founders and bartenders, as the name suggests, are renowned for tinkering around with increasingly rare and unusual spirits, like some kind of exotic chemistry set - so the margarita is pepped up with local Ibizan hierbas, and the Pimm's Punch has a tropical twist of pomegranate and pineapple. Punchbowls to share come in the form of conch shells and pineapples.

Drinks aside, there is a restaurant specialising in local fish, grilled or cooked in a salt crust, and served with locally sourced products. Head chef Gerard Ortiz Arlandis has done time at El Bulli and El Celler de Can Roca; before that he was a fisherman.

The designer is the same as for other Experimental clubs in Paris, London and New York - but rather than going for the usual rich, dark palette and textured fabrics, Dorothée Meilichzon has this time chosen something more nautical and Mediterranean - breezier shades, natural-wood furniture, coloured glassware that turns all colours of the sea in the afternoon sunlight.

The music is a mix of beachy bossa nova and reggae with electro and rock thrown in. DJs play a sunset set every evening and until 1am, except when a party kicks off - in typical Ibiza style, impromptu and unpredictable.

Restaurantes, beach clubs y terrazas con vistas al mar donde despedir el verano ante imponentes puestas de sol

El final de agosto es en parte el final del verano, o esa sensación nos deja a muchos de nosotros aunque todavía quedan muchas semanas de sol y calor por delante. Y numerosos atardeceres que, acompañados de ricos cócteles y buena gastronomía, son el planazo perfecto. Es la recomendación de la semana de Andrés Gasliteo, nuestro experto en buena vida con estilo para vivir 'A Tutiplén'.

Hace exactamente quince días estaba dándome un baño y picando, en plan casual, en la piscina de Los Felices, en Ibiza , el nuevo (y único, aseguran) ‘fashion hotel’ del mundo que te llevará directa a Palm Springs en un abrir y cerrar de ojos con su divertida estética ‘mid century’ con la que copar tu Instagram. La novena aventura de The Concept Hotels no está junto a la playa pero es buena ubicación para explorar la pitiusa y planear siguientes paradas.

Fue lo que hice, así que hace dos semanas también estaba a punto de disfrutar de un atardecer de película en la Isla Blanca, rodeado de margaritas y amigos. Experimental Beach , junto a la reserva de las reconocidas salinas y parte del hotel Montesol Experimental, es una de las direcciones más apropiadas para hacerlo brindando con sus personales cócteles , sea en sus hamacas, donde puedes pasar el día, o en mesas en las que, además, saborear la propuesta gastronómica de raíz balear de Alexander Larrea con platos como el secreto ibérico con cebolla roja y zumaque o el rodaballo a la plancha con cebolletas y agua de alcaparras .

Me encaminé hasta allí después de tomar los que tienen fama de estar entre los mejores arroces de los alrededores. Te hablo de Sa Caleta, chiringuito a pie de mar donde el arroz a banda es un ‘must’ frente a otra puesta de sol inolvidable . En esas estaba, y recordándolo ahora he hecho memoria de todos esos atardeceres gourmet que he tenido la suerte de admirar en los últimos meses. Algunos por primera vez, otros por enésima, porque repito y repito.

Sin salir de Ibiza, no puedo dejar de sugerirte que vayas a cenar a 7Pines Resort Ibiza. Además de sus 185 suites y un panorámico centro de spa y wellness, un Sol Repsol ya brilla sobre The View, su comedor insignia, y su menú degustación frente al atardecer y al islote de Es Vedrá es reserva obligatoria incluso aunque no te hospedes. Óscar Salazar es su nuevo chef y promete continuar una fusión entre el Mediterráneo y Francia con acentos nórdicos. La gamba local con escabeche de pollo, zanahoria, salicornia y naranja es una de sus gráficas propuestas.

Tal vez te suene que, allá por abril, te hablé de Seen, nuevo ‘beach club’ en Tenerife del nuevo, también, hotel Tivoli La Caleta, fabuloso resort en la, a veces, no tan fabulosa zona híper turística de Costa Adeje. Desde sus habitaciones y suites, tres piscinas (una para adultos, ¡viva!), Anantara Spa y desde las mesas de este animadísimo restaurante se contempla un mágico ocaso tras el que se chocan sus exóticos cócteles y se comparten sus famosos tacos Seen o sus sabrosos y tiernos cortes de carne o pescados del archipiélago seleccionados cada jornada. ¡Me encantó!

Mi adorado Palmar gaditano , zona que, por contra, no ha estallado con el 'boom' turístico si sabes moverte bien, no solo tiene un estilo de vida envidiable alrededor sino que su playa, por la extensión y la luz de un paraje casi virgen si no fuera por los que lo visitamos, ofrece una estampa de otro planeta al atardecer. Mírala desde Papaya Playa entre copas o antes o después de dar buena cuenta de una carta que va del desayuno a la noche con almuerzos repletos de especialidades reconocibles, como sus arroces, y cenas de corte más internacional, carta de sushi incluida .

Pierdo la noción del tiempo, asimismo, y muy cerca, en la desconocida playa de los Nidos en la costa gaditana . Tendrás que darte una buena caminata si quieres llegar a disfrutar de la escueta y económica cocina de El Nío , con el espeto de sardinas como rey, y a acabar con sus reservas de cerveza fresca hasta la noche estando prácticamente sola en un tramo de arena que es una delicia.

Sigo en Cádiz porque en Conil, el magnífico restaurante Timón de Roche presume, asimismo, de postal en las últimas horas del día. Prueba sin prisa sus pescados frescos y arroces de excepción y extiende la sobremesa con una copa hasta la ‘golden hour’ .

Y si das un último salto a Baleares, hazlo a Formentera y al hotel Cala Saona. Es de mis favoritos en la isla por la cala homónima de la que goza casi, casi en exclusiva y, por si fuera poco, se come fenomenal. Lo hice de manera informal en su Terraza Mediterránea y tengo ganas de regresar para probar, precisamente con el sol ya bajo un imponente horizonte, Sol Post, de corte más gastronómico y con influencias de Centroamérica .
