The role of the University of Nairobi digital repository is to capture, preserve, manage and provide access to digital local materials created by the institution and its community.
The repository was established in 2012 to increase the visibility of UoN research output. The repository has undergone tremendous growth and has about 90,000 documents consisting of research papers, conference presentations, archival materials, and theses and dissertations available under the open access creative commons license.
The repository enjoys a high level of appeal among users globally with more than 4 million downloads registered in the last six months. The repository has also contributed significantly to the excellent performance of the University of Nairobi in the webometrics ranking.

The University of Nairobi Library subscribes to over 76,000 peer-reviewed full-text electronic journals to support the teaching, learning and research activities of the University. These journals are available to students, staff, and researchers of the University of Nairobi through the campus-wide network. For remote access, students require a UoN Network Access Account to log in to the VPN portal . Articles that are not available in full text from the listed databases can be ordered through the British Library Document Delivery Services upon request to the library. Some of the rare documents in the Digital Repository are the Historical documents about the University of Nairobi and information on the East African Protectorate since the colonial period. Since its inception in 2012, the Repository has been growing exponentially with a total of over 100,000 items.
In the guidelines of the School of Physical Sciences (SPS), the dissertation/thesis will be presumed to comprise of two broad sections: •the preliminary section/preamble (pages before the Introduction Chapter) •the main body of the dissertation/thesis. (pages beginning with the Introduction Chapter to the end of the thesis)
