How to Add a Watermark in Google Slides

How to Add a Watermark in Google Slides | Quick Tips & Tutorial for your presentations

A watermark is a little identifying image used as a fixed element in digital creations such as photos, documents, videos or, in this case, presentations. It helps protect that creation and prevents plagiarism or uses without attribution. In this Slidesgo School tutorial, you’ll learn, step by step, how to insert a watermark into your presentation.

Adding a watermark to a slide

Adding a watermark to all the slides.

  • Open your Google Slides presentation and select the slide where you want to add a watermark.
  • Click Insert → Image.  You’ll see different options to insert an image, such as Upload from computer, Search the web, (Google) Drive, (Google) Photos, By URL and Camera. In this case, we’re going to upload an image from the computer.

Inserting an image in Google Slides

  • After inserting the image, resize it however you want. Watermarks tend to be small and are usually placed close to a corner so that they aren’t distracting.

Modifying the image in Google Slides

  • If you want it to be even less distracting, you could apply some transparency. To do so, click Format options → Adjustments → Transparency.

Adjusting the transparency in Google Slides

  • Open your Google Slides presentation.
  • Click Slide → Edit master.

Accessing the master slides in Google Slides

  • On the left, select the first slide (the one on the top of the list). That’s the slide master and acts as parent slide, so any changes made to this slide will affect the rest.

Selecting the slide master in Google Slides

  • Once you’ve selected the slide master, click Insert → Image.   From the list, we’re going to choose the same option as before: Upload from computer.

Inserting an image in Google Slides

  • Modify the image as you like. Remember that a watermark shouldn’t draw much attention, so place it next to a corner and apply some transparency to it.

Modifying the image in Google Slides

  • Click the “X” button at the top right to exit the master editor. Finally, check that your watermark is present on all the slides.

What is a watermark in Google Slides?

A watermark is a faded or semi-transparent word or image that normally displays in a corner, on the edge, or behind the main content. This type of tool gives you a simple way to display what you need to brand your presentation or let your audience know it’s confidential, but all in a subtle way.

  • Choose the location for the image. Alternatively, you can Search the Web, snap a photo with your connected device Camera, or pick By URL to insert a link to it.

However, it often works for making images appear faded as you can see in this article.

Add a watermark to all slides

Maybe you want to add a watermark to all of your slides rather than just one. For instance, you may want to brand your presentation with a company logo without distracting from the slide content.

  • Open your presentation and go to Slide > Edit theme in the menu.
  • Select the slide near the top on the left below Theme.

google presentation watermark

  • Follow the steps in the previous section to add the image, move or resize it, and adjust the opacity.

  • Click the X on the top right to close the Theme editor.

You should then see your watermark on all slides in your presentation.

google presentation watermark

If the watermarked image is missing from a certain slide, that slide may be using a different layout. In this case, select the specific slide and then follow these same steps to add the image to it in the Theme editor.

Want to use a Google Slides theme with the “Private” image above? Head to our Watermark Template and click Make a copy .

Add a watermark behind slide content

If you want to place a watermark on a single slide or even all slides that’s behind the content, you can do this in just a few steps. You often see this type of thing when you use a template or download an image created by a third-party.

Maybe for your presentation, you want to add a watermark with “draft,” “copy,” or something similar.

  • Follow the guides above to add the image to a particular slide or all of them, move it to a certain spot, and adjust the opacity.

google presentation watermark

  • Select the image and either pick Arrange > Order in the menu or right-click and move to Order .
  • Choose Send to Back .

How to add watermarks to Google Slides?

Watermarks, often small and transparent, are essentially a specific stamp from a company or person to identify work they do as theirs. Traditionally, they’ve been used on postage, money, and official documents. In today’s modern technology world, watermarks are often used on digital images and projects, such as PowerPoint or Google Slides presentations, to distinguish the owners’ work from others.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to add your watermark to your Google Slides presentation. First, you need to pick an image to identify your projects as yours. Then you can follow the below steps and mark your work.

Adding a watermark to a slide

  • Select the slide to which you wish to add a watermark.
  • Click “Insert” in the toolbar at the top of your screen.
  • Under insert, click on the “image” option and then choose “upload image.”

4. Once you’ve selected the image that will be your watermark, resize it to the proportions you wish. Generally, watermarks are relatively small. They are also often positioned in the corner of the slide. They are usually small and off to the side to prevent any distraction from the actual presentation.

Have you ever poured your heart and soul into creating a stunning Google Slides presentation, only to worry about someone else taking credit for your hard work? Watermarks are a fantastic way to subtly claim ownership and prevent unauthorized use of your slides.

The good news? Adding a watermark in Google Slides is a breeze! In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps to ensure your presentations are protected with a professional-looking watermark.

Adding a Watermark to a Single Slide

This method is perfect if you only want the watermark to appear on a specific slide in your presentation. Here’s how to do it:

  • Navigate to the desired slide: Open your Google Slides presentation and select the slide where you want to add the watermark.
  • Insert your image: Click on “Insert” in the top menu bar, then select “Image.” Choose the method you prefer to upload your watermark image, such as “Upload from computer” or “Google Drive.”
  • Position and resize: Once the image is uploaded, drag it to your desired location on the slide. Use the corner handles to resize the watermark to an appropriate size. Remember, a watermark should be subtle and not distract from your content.
  • Adjust transparency (optional): For an even more subtle effect, you can adjust the transparency of your watermark. Click on the image, then go to “Format options” & “Adjustments” & “Transparency.” Use the slider to set your preferred level of transparency.

Adding a Watermark to All Slides Using the Slide Master

This method is ideal if you want your watermark to appear on every slide in your presentation. Here’s how:

  • Access the Slide Master: Go to the “Slide” menu and select “Edit Theme.” This opens the slide master view.
  • Select the master slide: On the left-hand side panel, click on the very first slide (usually titled “Slide 1”). This is the slide master, which controls the formatting for all other slides in your presentation.
  • Insert and edit watermark: Following the same steps as Method 1, insert your watermark image and position it on the master slide. You can also adjust the transparency here if desired.
  • Exit the Slide Master: Once you’re happy with your watermark placement and settings, click the “X” button in the top right corner to exit the slide master view.

That’s it! With these simple steps, you’ve successfully added a watermark to your Google Slides presentation. Now you can share your work with confidence, knowing your ownership is clearly displayed.

How to Add Watermark in Google Slides

google presentation watermark

Google Slides is a powerful tool for creating professional presentations. One feature that can add an extra layer of protection and enhance the overall look of your slides is adding a watermark. In this article, we will explore the importance of watermarks, how to get started with Google Slides, and a step-by-step guide to adding a watermark. We will also discuss different positioning options and applying watermarks to multiple slides. So, let's dive into the world of watermarks in Google Slides.

Understanding the Importance of Watermarks

Watermarks serve multiple purposes when it comes to presentations. They can help protect your intellectual property by marking your slides with ownership information. This can discourage unauthorized use and ensure that your content remains identifiable. Additionally, watermarks can enhance the professionalism of your presentations, making them visually appealing and cohesive.

Watermarks are not just limited to text; they can also include logos, graphics, or patterns that add a unique flair to your slides. By incorporating visually striking watermarks, you can make a lasting impression on your audience and create a memorable presentation. These creative watermarks can complement your content and make it more engaging for viewers.

Protecting Your Intellectual Property

In today's digital world, it's crucial to safeguard your intellectual property. By adding a watermark to your slides, you can claim ownership over your presentation content. This makes it easier to identify and take action against any unauthorized use or plagiarism. Watermarks act as a deterrent and send a clear message that your work is protected.

Moreover, watermarks can also serve as a form of digital signature, adding an extra layer of security to your presentations. This authentication feature can help build trust with your audience and ensure the integrity of your content. By embedding unique watermarks, you can establish a sense of authority and credibility in your presentations.

Enhancing Professionalism in Presentations

A watermark can add a touch of elegance and professionalism to your slides. It serves as a visual branding element, making your presentation stand out. By adding your logo, company name, or website URL as a watermark, you can reinforce your brand identity and establish credibility. This attention to detail shows that you care about the quality of your work.

Furthermore, watermarks can be customized to match the theme and tone of your presentation, creating a cohesive look that resonates with your audience. Whether you opt for a subtle watermark in the corner or a bold overlay across the entire slide, the design possibilities are endless. This level of customization allows you to tailor your watermarks to suit the specific message and style of each presentation, showcasing your creativity and attention to detail.

Getting Started with Google Slides

Before diving into the specifics of adding a watermark, let's go through some basic features of Google Slides.

Basic Features of Google Slides

Google Slides is a free, web-based presentation software that allows you to create, edit, and share slides online. It offers a wide range of features such as slide layouts, text formatting, image editing, and collaboration tools. Familiarize yourself with these features to make the most of your presentation-building experience.

One of the standout features of Google Slides is its seamless integration with Google Drive, which allows you to store your presentations in the cloud and access them from any device with an internet connection. This not only ensures that your work is safely backed up but also enables easy sharing and collaboration with others in real-time.

Setting Up Your Presentation

Prior to adding a watermark, ensure that you have created your presentation and organized it accordingly. This includes determining the theme, selecting appropriate layouts, and arranging your content in a logical order. By setting up your presentation correctly, you will have a solid foundation to add your watermark.

When setting up your presentation, consider utilizing the speaker notes feature in Google Slides. Speaker notes allow you to add additional information, talking points, or reminders for yourself that are not visible to the audience during the presentation. This can be a helpful tool for keeping your presentation on track and ensuring you cover all key points effectively.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a Watermark

Now that you have a strong understanding of watermarks and the basics of Google Slides, let's dive into the process of adding a watermark to your presentation.

Watermarks are a great way to add a professional touch to your slides while also protecting your content from unauthorized use. They can be used to display logos, branding elements, or even subtle text overlays that reinforce your message.

Choosing the Right Image for Your Watermark

The first step in creating a watermark is selecting the right image. You can use your company logo, a copyright symbol, or any other image that represents your brand. It's essential to choose an image that is clear and recognizable, even in a reduced opacity or size.

When selecting an image for your watermark, consider the overall theme and tone of your presentation. The image should complement your content and enhance the visual appeal of your slides without distracting from the main message.

Adjusting the Transparency of Your Watermark

In order to achieve an aesthetically pleasing watermark, you may need to adjust its transparency. Google Slides allows you to control the opacity of your image, ensuring that it blends seamlessly into your slides without overpowering the content. Experiment with different transparency levels to find the perfect balance.

Transparency is key when it comes to watermarks. By adjusting the opacity of your watermark, you can strike the right balance between visibility and subtlety. A well-designed watermark should be noticeable enough to convey your branding or message, but not so prominent that it distracts from the information on your slides.

Positioning Your Watermark

The placement of your watermark can significantly impact its visibility and the overall look of your slides. Consider the following factors when deciding on the best location for your watermark.

Deciding on the Best Location for Your Watermark

Generally, watermarks are placed in the corner or along the edge of a slide. The bottom-right corner is a popular choice as it doesn't obstruct the main content. However, you can experiment with different positions to find what suits your presentation best.

Another consideration when positioning your watermark is the theme of your presentation. For a formal or corporate presentation, a discreet watermark in a corner might be more appropriate. On the other hand, for a creative or artistic presentation, you might opt for a larger, more central watermark that complements the overall design.

Ensuring Visibility and Aesthetics

While it's important to ensure that your watermark is visible, it should not distract the audience from your content. Place it in a way that doesn't interfere with the readability of your slides. It's also essential to choose a font, size, and color that aligns with your brand identity and maintains a professional appearance.

Moreover, consider the contrast between your watermark and the background of your slides. A watermark that blends in too much may go unnoticed, while one that is too bold could overwhelm the content. Finding the right balance is key to creating a watermark that enhances your slides without overpowering them.

Applying Watermark to Multiple Slides

In Google Slides, adding a watermark to multiple slides can be easily achieved using the Master Slide feature.

Using the Master Slide Feature

The Master Slide allows you to apply changes to multiple slides simultaneously. To add a watermark to all your slides, navigate to the Master Slide view, and insert the watermark image. Once added, the watermark will appear on all slides, ensuring consistency throughout your presentation.

Moreover, the Master Slide feature in Google Slides not only helps in adding watermarks but also enables users to make global changes to elements such as fonts, colors, backgrounds, and placeholders. This feature is especially useful for maintaining a uniform design theme across all slides, saving time and effort in individually editing each slide.

Consistency Across Your Presentation

When applying a watermark to multiple slides, strive for consistency. Ensure that the placement, size, and transparency of the watermark remain the same across all slides. This will create a cohesive and professional look, reinforcing your branding and adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of your presentation.

Furthermore, consistency in design elements like watermarks not only enhances the visual appeal of your slides but also aids in guiding the audience's focus towards the content of the presentation. A well-designed watermark can subtly complement your slides without overpowering the main message, striking a balance between style and substance.

By following these guidelines, you can effectively add a watermark to your Google Slides presentation. Remember, watermarks provide protection and professionalism, so don't hesitate to make use of this feature to elevate your presentations to the next level. Happy presenting!

Add a watermark to your slides

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

In PowerPoint, you can put a text background in your slides to get that watermark effect.

To add a watermark to all the slides, Select View > Slide Master . Scroll to the top of the thumbnail pane on the left, and select the first item, the slide master.

Select Insert > Text Box , and then click and drag to draw the text box on the slide master.

Type the watermark text (such as "DRAFT") in the text box.

To change the alignment of your watermark text, click and hold the rotation handle at the top of the text box while you move your mouse left or right.

Select the text in the text box. Choose a light font fill color, and then make any other changes that you want to the font and style. (If you do not see the Format tab, be sure you’ve selected the text box.)

Exit Slide Master . All slides except title pages will have the text.
