Toeic writing.

The TOEIC writing test is the second half of the TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test . The TOEIC writing test is 1 hour long and is composed of 8 writing prompts. The writing segment has a low score of 0 points and a high score of 200 points. The TOEIC writing test cannot be taken without also taking the TOEIC speaking test during the same test session. The TOEIC Listening and Reading test is separate and can be taken during the same test session or during a different test session.

You take the TOEIC writing assessment on a computer, not on paper. You will read the prompts, then you must type your answer. Your answers are saved and transmitted to ETS for scoring. Your TOEIC writing score will be based on how precisely and accurately you use written English to communicate.

Test structure

The TOEIC writing test is made up of 3 parts which you must complete in order:

Part 1 of the TOEIC writing test asks students to look at a picture and then write a sentence based on that picture that uses two words or phrases supplied by the TOEIC test makers. There are 5 pictures, each with 2 words supplied. You have 8 minutes to write all 5 sentences and can move forward and backward through this part of the TOEIC writing section during those 8 minutes. You get a score between 0 and 3 on each sentence based on grammatical accuracy and usage of the supplied words. This is questions 1 to 5.

Part 2 of the TOEIC writing test gives students an e-mail and they must write a response. There are two tasks of this type and you will have 10 minutes for each one. The instructions will ask you’re your response meet certain criteria, for example, it might tell you to you ask at least two questions. It is important to read and follow those instructions. You cannot go back to the first writing task once you have moved on to the second one. Your scores will be on a scale of 0 to 4 for each question, and will be based not only on the quality of your English writing but also on the organization of the message. This is questions 6 and 7.

Part 3 of the TOEIC writing test will ask you to write an opinion essay on a supplied topic. The topic does not require any specialized knowledge. You have 30 minutes to prepare, write, and revise your essay. Your score on the essay is on a scale of 0 to 5 based on the clarity of your argument, your English grammar and vocabulary, and the structure of your essay. This is question 8.

If you do not answer one of the questions on the TOEIC writing section or if you answer in your own language, it is counted as a zero, so it is always better to write something in English, even if you are not sure of the answer or your answer may be incomplete. You might still manage to get a point or two. Remember that you will need to be able to type your answers in English on the TOEIC writing test, so learning to type quickly on an QWERTY keyboard is important to avoid wasting time.

Writing an essay can be a difficult enough task as it is; writing it a language that is your first language is even harder.

If you're taking the TOEFL or the TOEIC and have to complete a writing assessment, then read these instructions for organizing a great five-paragraph essay in English.

Paragraph One: The Introduction

This first paragraph, made up of 3-5 sentences, has two purposes: grabbing the reader's attention, and providing the main point (thesis) of the whole essay.

To get the reader's attention, your first few sentences are key. Use descriptive words, an anecdote, a striking question or an interesting fact related to your topic to draw the reader in.

To state your main point, your last sentence in the first paragraph is key. Your first few sentences of the introduction basically introduce the topic and grab the reader's attention. The last sentence of the introduction tells the reader what you think about the assigned topic and lists the points that you're going to write about in the essay. Here's an example of a good introductory paragraph given the topic, "Do you think teenagers should have jobs while they are still students?" :

I've worked ever since I was twelve. As a teenager, I cleaned houses for my family members, made banana splits at an ice cream parlor, and waited tables at various restaurants. I did it all while carrying a pretty good grade point average in school, too! I definitely believe that teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job teaches discipline, earns them cash for school, and keeps them out of trouble.

Paragraphs Two - Four: Explaining Your Points

Once you've stated your thesis, you have to explain yourself! The thesis in the example introduction was "I definitely believe that teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job teaches discipline, earns them cash for school, and keeps them out of trouble".

The job of the next three paragraphs is to explain the points of your thesis using statistics, examples from your life, literature, the news or other places, facts, examples, and anecdotes.

• Paragraph Two: Explains the first point from your thesis: Teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job teaches discipline.
• Paragraph Three: Explains the second point from your thesis: Teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job earns them cash for school.
• Paragraph Four: Explains the third point from your thesis: Teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job keeps them out of trouble.

In each of the three paragraphs, your first sentence, called the topic sentence, will be the point you're explaining from your thesis. After the topic sentence, you'll write 3-4 more sentences explaining why this fact is true. The last sentence should transition you to the next topic. Here's an example of what paragraph two would look like:

First, teenagers should have jobs while they are still students because a job teaches discipline. When I was working at the ice cream store, I had to show up every day on time or I would have gotten fired. That taught me how to keep a schedule, which is a big part of learning discipline. As I cleaned the floors and washed the windows of my family members' homes, I knew they would be checking up on me, so I worked hard to do my best, which taught me an important facet of discipline, which is thoroughness. But being disciplined isn't the only reason it's a good idea for teenagers to work during school; it can also bring in the money!

Paragraph Five: Concluding the Essay

Once you've written the introduction, explained your main points in the body of the essay, transitioning nicely between them all, your final step is to conclude the essay. The conclusion, made up of 3-5 sentences, has two purposes: to recap what you've stated in the essay, and leave a lasting impression on the reader.

To recap, your first few sentences are key. Restate the three major points of your essay in different words, so you know the reader has understood where you stand.

To leave a lasting impression, your last sentences are key. Leave the reader with something to think about before ending the paragraph. You could try a quote, a question, an anecdote, or simply a descriptive sentence. Here's an example of a conclusion:

I can't speak for anyone else, but my experience has taught me that having a job while being a student is a very good idea. Not only does it teach people to have character in their lives, it can give them the tools they need to succeed like money for college tuition or a good reputation. Sure, it's hard to be a teenager without the added pressure of a job, but with all the benefits of having one, it's too important not to make the sacrifice. Like Mike would say, "Just do it."

TOEIC Writing Tips

• Work with a teacher or experienced TOEIC exam prep specialist. For most students, this is the only way to do well on the writing section. You need the feedback that the teacher will provide. Write several sample essays and have them corrected by a teacher. If you are short on money, at least invest in a teacher or class to prepare for the writing and speaking sections of the TOEIC, and then do the listening and reading sections on your own by working with a good preparatory TOEIC guidebook.
• Study the questions very carefully in advance so you know exactly what to expect. Often the question will ask you to do three or four specific things. Make sure you address all of them in your answer. The TOEIC examiner will be checking for this.
• Complete the writing tasks within the given time limits. You must be able to produce what's required within the time limits or you'll lose marks heavily. It's no use writing half of a beautiful answer.
• Plan before you write during the last essay question. Brainstorm and decide what you're going to say and how you'll expand on it. When you know what to write, you can concentrate on how you're going to write it.
• Write in an organized way. If you've planned in advance, you'll create a more organized, coherent piece of writing, which will earn you higher marks.
• Divide your writing into paragraphs, in the essay question. It is confusing to be faced with a massive block of writing. You wouldn't want to read a magazine article or book like this. Always divide your writing into clear paragraphs.
• Write clearly and simply. Don't experiment with new vocabulary or idioms. Use simple, clear English to communicate your ideas powerfully.
• Spell correctly. Yes, this does affect your score so avoid careless mistakes. A careless mistake is when you have spelt the same word in different ways in the same piece of writing. A careless mistake is also when you misspell a word which is already given in the exam topic. The only thing you have to do is to copy it correctly. Watch for this type of carelessness and practice until you overcome it.
• Stay on topic. Do what is asked of you – nothing more, nothing less.

In today’s blog post we are going to dive in to the writing section of the TOEIC test and give you a few useful TOEIC writing tips that will help you get a better score on your TOEIC test.

The TOEIC writing section consists of 8 questions and has a time limit of approximately 60 minutes.

The first five questions will ask you to write a short sentence describing a picture. Tip: Key factor when describing the pictures will be how relevant your sentence is to the picture and to write with proper grammar.

The two following questions will ask you to respond to a written request. Tip: Key factor when answering to the written request will be how well you’re able to demonstrate your vocabulary knowledge and write a response that answers the request made.

The final question will ask you to write an opinion essay. Tip: Always support your opinion with examples that your opinion is based on. Organize your opinion essay with an introduction, body paragraph and conclusion.

TOEIC Writing Practice Tips

• Practice your writing skills based on TOEIC questions before taking the exam.

• Practice summarizing articles and work on paraphrasing and switching up your vocabulary when writing.

• Write opinion essays on topics that are similar to you, remember to support your opinion with examples and evidence.

• Write a summary of an article with a 30-minute set time limit.

• Improve your vocabulary and practice applying it to your writing.

Toeic writing.

The TOEIC writing test is the second half of the TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test . The TOEIC writing test is 1 hour long and is composed of 8 writing prompts. The writing segment has a low score of 0 points and a high score of 200 points. The TOEIC writing test cannot be taken without also taking the TOEIC speaking test during the same test session. The TOEIC Listening and Reading test is separate and can be taken during the same test session or during a different test session.

You take the TOEIC writing assessment on a computer, not on paper. You will read the prompts, then you must type your answer. Your answers are saved and transmitted to ETS for scoring. Your TOEIC writing score will be based on how precisely and accurately you use written English to communicate.

Test structure

The TOEIC writing test is made up of 3 parts which you must complete in order:

Part 1 of the TOEIC writing test asks students to look at a picture and then write a sentence based on that picture that uses two words or phrases supplied by the TOEIC test makers. There are 5 pictures, each with 2 words supplied. You have 8 minutes to write all 5 sentences and can move forward and backward through this part of the TOEIC writing section during those 8 minutes. You get a score between 0 and 3 on each sentence based on grammatical accuracy and usage of the supplied words. This is questions 1 to 5.

Part 2 of the TOEIC writing test gives students an e-mail and they must write a response. There are two tasks of this type and you will have 10 minutes for each one. The instructions will ask you’re your response meet certain criteria, for example, it might tell you to you ask at least two questions. It is important to read and follow those instructions. You cannot go back to the first writing task once you have moved on to the second one. Your scores will be on a scale of 0 to 4 for each question, and will be based not only on the quality of your English writing but also on the organization of the message. This is questions 6 and 7.

Part 3 of the TOEIC writing test will ask you to write an opinion essay on a supplied topic. The topic does not require any specialized knowledge. You have 30 minutes to prepare, write, and revise your essay. Your score on the essay is on a scale of 0 to 5 based on the clarity of your argument, your English grammar and vocabulary, and the structure of your essay. This is question 8.

If you do not answer one of the questions on the TOEIC writing section or if you answer in your own language, it is counted as a zero, so it is always better to write something in English, even if you are not sure of the answer or your answer may be incomplete. You might still manage to get a point or two. Remember that you will need to be able to type your answers in English on the TOEIC writing test, so learning to type quickly on an QWERTY keyboard is important to avoid wasting time.

TOEIC Writing là một hình thức thi để kiểm tra kỹ năng viết của thí sinh. Với thời gian 60 phút, thí sinh phải hoàn thành 8 câu hỏi bao gồm một bài luận ngắn. 

Câu hỏi 1-5: Viết mô tả tranh 

Ở mỗi câu hỏi trong phần này, thí sinh được cung cấp 1 bức tranh và 2 từ khóa có liên quan. Nhiệm vụ của thí sinh là phải hoàn thành một câu văn miêu tả dựa vào các dữ kiện có sẵn.

Câu hỏi 6-7: Phản hồi email

Trong phần tiếp theo, thí sinh sẽ được nhận một đoạn văn trích từ email, bao gồm người gửi, người nhận và nội dung email. Thí sinh sẽ phải viết một email phản hồi theo yêu cầu của đề bài.

Câu hỏi 8: Viết một bài luận ngắn trình bày quan điểm (Opinion Essay)

Ở phần 8 của TOEIC Writing, thí sinh được yêu cầu viết một đoạn văn ngắn trình bày quan điểm của mình về một vấn đề mà đề bài cho trong vòng 30 phút. Số từ yêu cầu cho phần thi này là 300 từ.

Answer: Sports are popular all around the world. People enjoy sports because sports bring several advantages to people's lives. Sports encourage people to get exercise, they provide opportunities for interacting with others, and they give a sense of belonging to a group.  An interest in sports encourages people to get exercise. People who play sports get a lot of exercise. People who are serious about their sport spend a lot of effort getting in good physical shape so that they can play their sport well. Other people play sports just for fun, but they still get good exercise when they play. Of course, some people just watch sports on TV, and that isn't a very good exercise. But sometimes fans become motivated to imitate their favourite athletes, and they try playing the sport themselves.  An interest in sports provides opportunities for interacting with others. When you play on a team, you have to work with your teammates to play the game as well as you can. Or you may just interact with a single opponent when you play a sport such as tennis. Even if you just watch sports, you have opportunities to interact with other fans of your favourite teams.  An interest in sports gives a sense of belonging to a group. If you play on a team, then the team is your group. You are also part of the larger group of people who enjoy playing that sport. If you enjoy watching sports, you can feel that you are part of the group of fans who support your teams. You can also feel pride in being a resident of the city that your favourite team represents.  Sports bring a lot of positive things to people's lives. Sports people everywhere. encourage people to exercise,  spend time with others, and belong to groups. These are the reasons why sports are important to people.
